Mornings had always been a struggle for Nari. She'd hated the idea of leaving her bed, and facing the challenges that the day had to offer; better to remain in the comfort and warmth and let the problems be faced the following day. Aincrad had changed that for it, in the sense that it had forced her to get up early. Forced her to need to face the problems of tomorrow, today. Forced her to stumble from the warmth of her bed, into a cold shower and then into a routine of eating something and making her way into the wilds beyond. At first, she had hated it, but the longer she had taken up the practice, the more she had come to respect it - the way it drove her to be better, even if it caused her agony.

"But this morning...fuck this morning." She cursed under her breath, getting a sharp look from the blonde sitting across from her. Nari had given a quick, apologetic look before turning back to her menus and trying to figure out her plans for the day. She'd scoured through the various information she'd received and found; both from brokers she'd known, as well as her own gathered intelligence. A few pieces had caught her attention, but one more than any other. "Floor nineteen...alright, I guess it's worth a try..."

She'd said her goodbyes before heading out the door and back towards the main city of the floor, bypassing the few dangers along the way before they could give her anything more than a precursory glance of interest. Even the guards she'd passed on the way into the main city had appeared sluggish and tired - a feeling that Nari could empathise with. Her trudge up to the teleporter had been far from energetic, and as she'd called out the name of the main settlement, she'd wondered if she'd even gotten it right.

Nari blinked as the world seemed to turn white for a second, before revealing her new destination before her. She felt her mind reeling as she took in the leather tents and huts that signified the rundown floor that she'd arrived on. It looks worse every time... Her eyes cast about the area quickly, taking in the scenery - if it could even be called that - before stepping off the main pad that made up the teleporter of the floor. She'd barely made it seven steps before a figure had rushed over to her, hobbling as quickly as its elderly form would allow it to move.

"Ah...excuse me young miss, have you heard the tales of the great and wonderful Ki'Raion?" The man seemed to smile as Nari sighed, waiting to hear her response as she considered whether it would be an ill-fated decision to simply run away or not. Another heaved sigh, and then Nari had turned back to the elderly man, waving a hand and giving a single sentence in acknowledgement.

"Tell me all about it, then..."

In between messages from a variety of acquaintances and friends, he saw Nari's name appear. Double-taking at the sight, he pulled his menu into a wider view. His fingers danced across the screen, opening the message. He read it over a couple of times. It appeared that she had a quest for them to take on, although the specifics were vague.

"Ki'Raion, huh? Never heard of it."

The walk to his house from the beach was short and peaceful. Ever since purchasing the property on Raitoborou Bay, he had become more of a homebody. He traveled from time to time around the floors of Aincrad and when he was called, he usually went. He opened his door; there was nobody to greet him. The crashing of waves could be heard from the shore, though. His sword sat in his living room, waiting idly for him atop a coffee table. Things were quiet here so he never needed it.

He drew it from its scabbard. It felt alive in his hands but he could not explain why. Neither Freyd nor Ren had explained where the Soulcursed Blade had come from and he had not asked. On the wall across from him hung Meteor and the Royal Greatsword, his old weapons. He hadn't the heart to toss them away after all the time they had spent together, battling.

Equipping his armor, he left the beach house and made his way to Floor Nineteen. It was far from his favorite spot in the game. Home (he hesitated to call it that) hardly felt like a safezone at all. The last time he was there he was forced to fend off a pack of wolves from attacking a family of NPCs. It was horrific.

Floor Nineteen did have one jewel: the Secret Gardens of Yaruun. He had never been but he had heard stories of the place. Supposedly, it was the one beautiful thing you could find in the otherwise gloomy wasteland. He saw Nari up ahead and approached with a wave.

"Hey," Morningstar smiled.

It had been a nice morning when Katoka was at home. She enjoyed breakfast and a nice cup of tea with Sam, finished up a few chores around the house, and even finished up crafting a few potions. Now she stood near the teleport pad in floor nineteen taking in the somber sight of this floor's main settlement. It was a sobering experience seeing these NPCs living in what looked like more temporary housing than what she was used to seeing in a safe zone.

After a moments the samurai snapped back to reality as she saw her fellow party members up ahead. Closing the distance she smiled at them, "Morning strangers, haven't seen you in a while." she joked, hoping her humor would lighten the mood. "So we're fighting a big cat?" she had looked up what info she could back at her guild library. She didn't want to take up too much time doing research but she had noted a few things about the beast.

"If I hadn't depleted most of my stock getting ready for the raid I would have brought some potions. I'm still getting the hang of the whole crafting thing."

Violet wasn't one to visit the upper floors all that often, especially considering that there was not really a big incentive for her to do so, aside from the rare boss raid that would occur, or the occasional Dungeon raid that she was dragged along for. Floor 19 was one of those floors that were only really visited if you wanted to go after its field boss mob, or its quest mob. The latter of which was something that she was currently after.

She was wandering the streets, a bored look on her face as she kept an eye out for anyone who might be prepping to go and deal with the beast. Ki'raon was a strange mixture between a giant cat, and some sort of carnivorous plant (Possibly a venus flytrap). It was known for becoming much more lethal upon daybreak, which made it a fearsome creature to fight against. However, to a group of higher-levelled players, defeating it became a cinch.

Speaking of higher-levelled players, she could see a group of them gathering in a section of town that was known to house the particular quest NPC that allowed you to fight the overgrown cat.

"Not too sure I've met most of you, huh..?" Violet murmured, casually strolling up towards the group, her eyes ghosting over the collective of different people. She actively recognized at least one of them as a consistent frontliner, the woman being one of the few tanks that actually worked for the clearers. The other two, she was less sure about. The only thing that she really knew was that they filled the DPS role more often than not.

The trio that had arrived behind her seemed intent and interested in the quest offered by the elderly man. Before Nari knew what was happening she was, unknowingly to herself at first, roped into the quest itself. As the final member arrived - getting a small nod of delayed familiarity from the redhead - Nari decided to take charge. Stepping off in front of the group in the last direction the elderly man had pointed in, Nari glanced back at the others.

"Alright...well, let's do this, if we're going to do it. Preferably before the sun sets, as...well, I think we all have stuff to do, right?" She pulled up her menu, donning the armour and spear that had become her companion pieces ever since returning to the role of a tank. "I'll draw it's focus, so that you three can...well, hopefully beat the living hell out of it, yeah?"

She didn't wait for any major response from the trio, simply turning and setting off along the path she had started down. They would either follow, or they wouldn't. Either way, it seemed Nari was headed off to face Ki'Raion. Whoever, or whatever, the hell Ki'Raion is. I hope it's cute, at least.

Her walk didn't take them nearly as far as she expected - maybe twenty minutes, at most - before she spotted what appeared to be a larger than average creature. She'd paused long enough to eye up the thing, before confirming that it was, indeed, not a regular in this area. Making sure the trio were still with her, she stepped towards the thing in the field, raising her spear above her head as she came within the pull distance of it.

"Here me, beast, as your guide comes to lead you to the domain beyond this one. Face the Reaper, and return to Cardinal - so that you may be reborn again, in your never-ending life of pain." She called out as she came close to it, drawing it's eyes upon her as she activated her skills, hoping to pull it's gaze to her and her alone. "I'll hold it's focus, you lot smack the living shit out of it!"

Katoka and a stranger followed up right after he found Nari. It seemed he was not the only one invited to the quest; it would make the fight go a bit quicker and smoother, so he was thankful for that.

"Nice to see you again," he said to Katoka. To the other girl, he introduced himself. "People call me Star."

He followed the group to the location of the supposed beast, Ki'Raion. Nari had clearly switched up her build since they last fought together, considering she was now willing to tank their beast of an opponent. The big cat took her bait; its full attention was on the scythe-wielder, allowing the rest to deal their damage.

The Soulcursed Blade was ripped from its slumber and, simultaneously, Morningstar activated Charge. Lightning coursed through him and in a flash, he had closed the gap between himself and the big cat. A swift uppercut ran through Ki'Raion. It swatted at Morningstar in reaction but almost immediately returned its focus to Nari, who was holding its aggro perfectly.

Katoka gave Morningstar a warm smile as the new person joined their group, "It's good to see you again as well Star. And you can call me Kat, most people do." She nodded to the newcomer as well letting her know that this went for her as well. The trek through the floor to their destination was not a hard one, this floor just felt like a miserable place to be on. She wondered if, at he time this floor first opened up, that the rest of the frontliners had a similar experience when they first arrived.

When they party finally came across the beast the samurai was startled by it's beauty. If they didn't need to kill it in order to complete the quest she would have left it be and just observed it for as long as possible. "At least it will respawn at a later time. It really is a magnificent creature." Nari stood before the beast, attracting it's attention and Star lanched a devistating attack that managed to cut it's health nearly in half.

Katoka was next, her body feeling light on her feet. She drew her katana as she charged at the feline plant hybrid, slashing at the back of it's front leg as she ran by. Cutting at it's tendon caused it to collapse on that side crying out in pain, it's jaws snapping at a foe that had long since past.

"You're up Mina! Finish it off before it does it's thing!" she called to her new party member.

Violet watched as Nari let out a booming roar, drawing the attention of the massive plant-cat, the creature letting out a roar of its own as it bared its fangs. Once upon a time, Violet would have honestly been scared shitless by it. She could picture it in her mind, a point in time where she'd be cowering behind her friends, behind Morg, Itzal, Shield, or Hestia... Those times where she was significantly weaker than she wanted to be, where she couldn't protect the people she cared about.

That weakness was dead and buried, something that she could no longer afford.

Morningstar Struck the boss hard, ripping away a cool chunk of health, as well as some of its natural defenses. Just as it was struggling to get its bearings back, Kataoka lept in, ripping another massive chunk of health away, the beast dipping into the yellow from the other woman's follow-up. Violet could hear her calling out for her to finish the Lion off, to polish that last little bit of health.

well, who was she to ignore such a simple request?

Violet smacked her blade against her hip, before shifting into a crouch, her HUD already preparing the <<Charge>> Skill for her. "Heard you loud and clear, Kataoka-san." she breathed, sliding her mask over her face... before tearing forward, and skewering Ki'Raion cleanly, her body landing on the opposite side of it. with a quick motion, she slid Lament back into its sheath, the blade still humming with energy. "How was that, Did I do well?"

Before Nari had any actual role to complete, the creature was nothing more than shards spreading on the air. She relaxed her stance, letting the spear lean back against her shoulder as she glanced around the field a bit. Mina's question drew her gaze, and she gave the pink-haired girl a quick smile, before trying to figure out their next move. Somehow, the death of the creature had felt almost underwhelming to Nari, and she found herself a little disappointed that there was still hours to go in the day. 

"Does anyone have any major plans for the day, or do we feel like perhaps doing something a bit more with our time?" She looked to each of the three others, a small grin on her face as she waved at the fields around them. "If you're up for it...there's field bosses to take down, and dungeons to explore, which might be worth our time?"

She wasn't sure about the others, but she figured that they had some time to waste before anything important needed to be done. Which meant that a day of grinding might be in order, if no one was opposed to it. "Or, if we're really desperate, we can just run around and kill some random creatures for the joy of it. And by joy I mean, loot collection, not weird murder-habits."

"I know a place—you know, where you can enjoy your weird murder habits," Morningstar joked. "It's in the mountains, not too bad of a hike though."

That was sort of a lie; the trek sucked. The loot he thought they could find, however, was nice to think about. He led them away from Ki'Raion's living place and towards the dungeon, which he had discovered while studying the Forbidden Lands. It was more of a temple, to be honest; a place of worship for the old demon, Tanos. It was one of many temples located in those mountains and according to his sources, it was possible a powerful item was located deep within the camps that the disciples had set up.

It took them a while but eventually, they made it to the spot Morningstar had spoken of. Four of Tanos' disciples sat outside of the temple's entrance, keeping watch. They were quite weak, it appeared. They could take them out and enter rather quickly.

"Not sure what'll be inside, to be honest. I have an acquaintance who took down another nearby, though. He found some loot that we think is pretty rare," he said, intentionally remaining unspecific.

A rock wall covered them from their enemies' line of sight. "Let's not waste time," Morningstar said, leaping over the jagged cliffside and lunging at the four masked people.

They noticed him almost immediately but he was fast. His blade caught him off guard. He was so accustomed to seeing a golden glow emitting from it that when it turned pitch black instead, he nearly stopped in his tracks.

He pressed on, slashing through them. The crackle of electricity sounded upon impact.

[Katoka 0]

The sound of Morningstar's attack hitting all four of their enemies drew Kat from her line of cover. She drew her sword in an instant and followed up her companions attack with her own AoE, the sounds of electricity snapping and cracking around her as she closed the distance between them in the blink of an eye. After she struck each of the cultists she seemed to blink in and out of existence, stopping by each of her opponents with only enough time to cut them from shoulder to hip or vice versa. When she was finished they all fell to the floor with meaty thuds before shattering into polygons.

"Huh, I guess they were the baby mobs huh?" she asked out loud letting out a chuckle, "Why do they always but weak guards at the start of the dungeons? They don't really do much to stop anyone."

She regretted her words almost instantly. From behind heavy footfalls echoed from the doorway she stood in front of. Katoka winced at each loud thump as the hulking figures of two large armored humanoids came into view, massive clubs in their hands with masks matching that of the enemies they just defeated. "They uh, they're right behind me aren't they?"

Violet rolled her shoulders as they approached the dungeon, shifting her mask back over her face. She wasn't exactly one for Dungeons, not really finding them to be her style. However, as Morningstar and Kataoka took out the quartet of baby mobs that showed up, their pixels barely having faded, two much larger guards stormed out of the deeper parts of the Dungeon, looking outraged that they had intruded upon their home and slaughtered their allies. It seems like their fighting wasn't quite over yet, now was it. "Oh, it looks like they brought friends... Joy."

Violet let out a gasp as one of them skewered her with its blade, the weapon biting away a decent chunk of her poor health bar. She carefully shook her blade, activating a Sword Art as she slammed it right through their shoulder, flinging the massive guard away from her. as the other one began to charge up at her, her blade suddenly ignited with a vicious black and purple flame, the edges of the cursed blade glowing a chilling blue. "You won't get me twice, Asshole." she spat, before skewering them through the throat, Freezing them in place as their body was wracked with several status ailments.

"There we are, a lovely ice sculpture~" she hummed, leaning on it with a smile on her face as she beckoned for one of the others to charge it. "Kat, Star, you two want to finish them off? They're very low, and this one can't run!" if the poor guard could scream, they probably would at the vicious-looking side eye Violet was giving them.

Morningstar had led the group along a winding, tiring path through the hillsides and into what felt like the murkiest of swamps in Nari's mind. Although she was used to her time as a tank, she found her heavier armour weighing on her, dragging her down as she tried to keep pace with the others - an effect not helped by the way that the swamp-like land pulled at her feet. She kept silent, pushing forwards in order to keep up with the others as she trudged along behind them. 

She'd barely caught up as the others had dispatched what had clearly been the forward guards of the temple they had found - Morningstar and Kat smashing through them like they were nothing, and leaving behind no trace that they'd even found a challenge. Knowing that she wasn't entirely needed - not yet, at least - Nari had let her forward moment slow a bit, taking her time to wade through the area as she made her way towards the temple itself.

Just as she had touched upon more solid ground, she saw as Mina stepped up to face off with two of the creatures, her weapon slashing through them and leaving one covered with a layer of ice that seemed to flicker beneath the flame that soared along it. She listened as Mina called out to the other two - Nari entirely forgotten as she trudged up beside the pink-haired girl and attempted to slam her shield into the unfrozen creature - managing nothing other than to push it back and away from her party member.

"I. Hate. The Mud." She growled, more to herself than to anyone else, as she placed herself between the still moving creature and Mina. She figured her only purpose in the fight would be to come between the guardian and its target - if only barely.

He and Katoka synergized well. He was impressed by her ability to follow him in and finish off the group of cultists. Unfortunately, they had been a little bit loud. Two guards, much stronger than the previous four, stepped out before them. Mina and Nari held them off, giving the other two the opportunity to catch their bearings. He took a quick glance at Katoka, making sure she was prepared before he reentered the fight.

"I'll take left," he said.

Without another word, he dashed at the Tanos Guard. He diverted the direction of his opponent's weapon, creating an open space to strike. The Soulcursed Blade disappeared within the guard's body. His health bar hit zero, leaving one last enemy to take care of. The remaining guard was focused on their tank, paying no mind to the katana wielder who approached. 

He turned away from the ending of the fight, his gaze steady on the darkness of the temple.

"And I'll take the right!"

Katoka advanced on her target, her katana held low as she ran. These enemies were certainly beefy, but she had taken down worse for sure. The only thing that concerned her was the armor they were wearing, it might be too tough for her blade. Bringing her ward up at a diagonal slash she cut the guard from hip to shoulder. She was sure that would have taken him out, however the guard shifted his weight towards her. Kat leapt back to get out of his range and saw that his health bar had only a few pixels left of red. That damn armor. Her blade was thin after all, not made to deal with metal made that thick.

"You have got to be kidding me! I knew I should have brought a potion with me." She turned towards Mina, "Sorry, it's barely worth a slap on the ass but he's yours!"

Not even a second after Kat called to mina did the guard explode into a spikey column of ice, followed by the newly made ice sculpture cracking and then falling apart into chunks. "Uh, nevermind. I forgot you did a thing to it."

From the depths of the temple came a rumble that shook dirt and dust from the rocks around them. "I uh, guess we should go inside?" Kat began walking into the temple and followed the hallway deep inside. As the footsteps of her and her party echoed off the walls around them it felt as though they were the only ones left in the whole structure, and for all they knew they were jus that. As the group came to the end of the hall they entered a large room filled with lit candles and what looked like a large summoning circle of some kind on the floor drawn it what might have been blood. Standing in that circle was what only could be described as a demon.

The creature stood roughly 10 feet tall with bright red skin, horns on it's forehead, bat light wings on it's back, and a long thin tail. It turned to the group and let out a loud roar before advancing towards them.

*Small side note, Mina did a dumb and forgot to track her energy regen, so thats fun q.q

Violet patted Kataoka on the back, laughing. "Don't sweat it, ok? That enhancement's rare enough that people almost never see that proc!" she replied, before checking her health. it wasn't too terribly low, enough that she could still comfortably tank a hit or two from a less beefy monster. She barely registered the other girl's fearful comment about something else approaching them before she found herself being flung violently into one of the pillars, a choked gasp ripping from her throat as she slid to the ground.

So much for paying attention to the fight, she'd somehow completely missed the fact that the boss had decided to sneak up on them until it had thrown her like a ragdoll.

"... Ow..!" Violet groaned, unsteadily getting to her feet, glaring at the demon as she queued up a sword art. "... That friggin HURT YOU SON-OF-A-BITCH!!" She bit into the boss mob with her Rapier, swearing under her breath when she realized that it had done nearly no damage to it at all. She lept backwards, dragging Kat with her as she drew closer to the rest of the party, skidding to a stop next to Nari. "Okay what the hell, why does it want MY Ass?!"

Even as Nari had struggled forwards, following the others in a way that was far from befitting of her status as the party's tank, she couldn't help but keep up with the conversation and flow of everything. Although she wasn't being useful in her protective role, she could at least keep an eye on the battle. It was this eye, that allowed her to see where she would be most needed as the final boss of the dungeon appeared, slamming it's weapon into Mina and causing a severe dip in the girl's health bar.

Before anyone else could react, Nari had already called forth the healing crystal in order to alleviate some of the damage that the pink-haired girl had taken, hesitating only as the woman screamed out in frustration. Nari's eyes shifted down to the aforementioned ass, seemingly glancing at it for the first time, before giving a shrug and a simple response. "I mean it's a nice ass, but why they're specifically targeting it...that I can't tell you. Maybe they heard the term 'I'd hit that', and took it too literally?"

She returned her focus to the battle at hand, raising the healing crystal and activating it before stepping up in front of Mina again. Without thinking, she called back over her shoulder, her voice tilted with a small amount of sarcasm. "That being said, if you're looking to get your ass pounded, next time just call me."

The battle transitioned quickly, a new opponent appearing from the black of the temple. Suddenly, Mina's health bar was chunked and although the damage was ameliorated slightly by Nari's healing crystal, it worried him. He raced forward, passing the two and striking the so-called Fiend of Tanos.

Azriel stumbled back, dazed from Morningstar's stunning sword art. He fell to a knee, struggling to lift himself. He was wide open and the team was free to strike as they pleased until the short-lasting status effect wore off.

He made eye contact with Katoka, wordlessly requesting her aid against the goliath. They only needed a bit more time to rebuild tempo and keep the pink-haired woman from falling to such a lowly opponent. 

The Soulcursed Blade wore him down, growing heavier after each fight he took. He glanced down at it on an exhale. His arms were sore from wielding it for so long.

Seeing Mina take such a heavy hit made Katoka's blood run cold. She froze for just a moment, feeling her hand begin to shake. That moment was broken when Mina drug her out of harms way. It gave her a moment to take in her surroundings and watch the boss' movements. Watching Nari heal Mina she turned to Morningstar, locking eyes with him and nodding. Now was was not the time for more mistakes like that.

She returned to her blade to it's sheath and set herself in a low crouch, just a fraction of the steel of her blade visible. Light spilled from that exposed metal and electricity began to crackle around her. "Don't you dare lay a hand on any of them." she said out loud before she blinked out of existence, reappearing behind Azriel. Her blade now fully drawn and a wide cut now prominent in his chest, black ichor dripping from the wound. Electricity sparked from the red mesh of his body as he seized for a moment, a demonic groan escaping his maw.

Kat turned to her party and nodded to them. She wasn't going to let any of them die here.

Violet felt a twinge of bitter rage as she stared up at her health bar, the formerly yellow lines only just barely managing to dip into the green. One more good hit like what had hit her before would kill her good and quick. Her hands were practically burning as she hovered over her blade, red eyes narrowing in frustration. Nari's comment didn't help that anger. "It was a rhetorical question." she replied, her tone flat. "besides, I'm not the one asking for a spanking, now am I, miss tank? You people have some kinda sado-masochism thing going on, only way I can think that someone would enjoy tanking... well that, and a death wish."

Violet stood up straighter as the lines in her armor suddenly glowed with a deep red light, her health jumping up by a decent margin. Morningstar and Kataoka both slapped the Demon around, the other girl even managing to strike it with a critical, the boy striking the boss dumb and stupid with a stun. Lament was sparking, the hiss of pitch black smoke and deep purple fire starting to come to life across the blade. The deep red and chilly blue gems embedded along the hilt began to glow with a fierce sheen.

She stepped forward, her free hand sliding her mask back across her face as she glared up at the demon. Kat's words hadn't been lost on her, a ghost of a smile crossing her face at the barely disguised fury towards the boss monster. Violet hefted herself into the Air with a leap, motes of blue, purple, and red flying around her as she landed a hefty blow against the giant demon, who let out a bellow of rage that was abruptly cut off courtesy of the massive casing of ice it was suddenly surrounded by. Kataoka's electrical attack mixed into it as well, making Violet almost feel pity for it. How horrible it must be to have that much pain flowing through every part of your body, coursing through your veins. On fire, yet frozen almost to the point of frostbite. Electrocuted, and being spit-roasted by hellfire... how painful, indeed.

Violet planted a kick to the Demon's face, using it to propel herself back to her team, her free hand brushing aside her mask so that she could give them a thumbs up and a snarky grin. "Don't worry, I'm A-OK! Save that worry for the Boss raid, okay? This guy's barely worth the chump change jingling in my pockets!" She turned back towards Azriel, the demon still twitching spazmodically underneath the ice. "Now lets finish this bastard off!!"
