[BR-F27] Paving the Way to Floor 28 [Team Freyd]

In the beginning, there was darkness. Nothingness. The void consumed all, and thus in paradoxical creation, it brought all together. From darkness sprang the light, and all things bathed in that radiance took form. Against that unwanted creation, Darkness Raged.

That ephemeral hatred gave rise to a blasphemy, a creature that mirrored the elements that sprang forth from the void, a vengeful mockery of the powers that gave life. The origin of life, and it's inevitable end. Wushen, the Warlord of the Elements.

Long since sealed, the manner in which his miasma was brought to heel has been lost to time, but one thing is certain: the seal has broken, and his return is upon you.

With some help from the Players, the way has opened.

That which was long forgotten has manifested. It's insatiable desire to Return All to Nothingness stands between you and freedom. \

As you enter the heart of darkness within all of that brilliant light, his gaze strikes you, but he does not see you. You are beneath contempt. Wushen sees ants to be stomped beneath his crushing claws, ashes to be smote upon crumbling mountains. His infinite vacant stare perceives only the inevitable, and he cannot comprehend anything but the end that he seeks.

The End of All Things.

Coiled above you, around you, his head dips low as he watches boundless infinity stretch on forever, waiting. He is a black hole, drawing in color, soaking up all of the light. He is hungry only to deprive you. He thirsts only to dry up your hopes. 

Around him, as you look more closely, orbs rotate in an orbit, almost like he is the center of his own galaxy. They burn low with strange hues, vaguely reminiscent of… something… familiar.

But what?

Take up your swords, brave warriors, and fight for your lives.

Because Wushen will not hesitate to take them from you.

Petty:

• Using [Delay] sword arts (Does not stack) will reduce the next BD 9-10 effect that a head will produce to BD:10 only, making a BD: 9 a normal attack.
• In addition, a player using a Mass Healing Crystal without any hatred generation skills/enhancements gain +2 Hatred.

Beyond Care:

• Each round at the start of the bosses turn before its post action, the highest hate from each group decays by -1. In the event of a draw then this ability targets the player that has any hatred generation skills/enhancements. If none is present it will be the last player to generate hatred outside of attacking.
• In addition, every successful attack against the player with the highest hate reduces their hatred by -2

Larger than Life:

• DoT’s last half as long.

Gridlock:

• When reaching 50% of its total HP, further damage is ignored until it transitions to phase 2. Transitioning to phase 2 consumes its post action.

"Shit.  What's the saying? No plan survives first contact with the enemy?  Welcome to that moment."

Freyd was instantly working at reading the room and their opponent the instant it revealed itself.  Against Shadow and Orgoth, they'd had some room to play, but this thing negated the traditional tank build entirely.  Shield, Yuki, even Eruda would have been in trouble against it.  Only sheer dumb luck and lack of time had prevented him from modifying his own style as much, plus his preference for a combat style based more closely used by his friendly neighbourhood red wanderer.  "We would almost have been better served fielding full parties of DPS," he muttered under his breath, knowing that there was no way for them to have predicted such a thing.  

"Let Hirru rely on his skills for healing.  Don't pop a crystal unless you're desperate.  I have a baker's dozen in my pockets and can use them without you drawing its attention away."  Turning to their green-haired support, he added a request.  "Whenever you can spare it, and right off the bat, I need you to hit it with Delays, or the TECH-B sword art.  You're the best option for it, since it only needs a hit and the effect doesn't rely on damage."  A new plan was already forming in the Whisper's mind - one that required actual teamwork to manage and succeed.

"The rest of you, do your thing.  Let's see how it reacts to our attacks, but avoid any deliberate attempt to stun it for the moment.  Hopefully one of the other groups will try that and show us how it reacts.  They'll need it more than us.  Our best chance to determine how this boss works will be in the opening round, when I can most effectively keep its attention on me.  If Hirru fails to connect, one of you will need to hit it with a delaying sword art instead."  Finding confirmation in their faces, Freyd stepped forward taking a lesson from the distant past at Tanabata.  Just as the Lake of Reflections revealed the splendor of the infinite universe above, a small token of that distilled glory had been granted to participants in the form of a rare consumable: galaxial water snake. 

"This thing wants to eat the universe?  Come on, Persi.  Show it just how big that is.  Make us look like the biggest, tastiest snack in the room."

For those watching him from behind, Freyd's armor practically exploded in ribbons of celestial light, the majesty and magnificence of the stars laid bare to illuminate everything around him.  Persi - or Persistence, for the few who actually knew her full name - unfurled her inky form from around her master and shone with the full fire normally concentrated only in her eyes.  

"Come get your num nums, bitch."

As they all stepped into the boss room Katoka kept her left hand on the hilt of her sword. She walked with her head held high and her chest puffed out, a walk of determination and pride in her group and herself. Then the beast revealed itself and her grip tightened on her weapon. It was massive. Much larger then she was expecting.

It took Kat a moment to collect herself. It was Freyd's voice that pulled her back into reality, his calm but stern voice relaying commands and outlining a plan. She trusted him and knew that he wouldn't let them down. Seeing him and Persi explode in a galaxy of light and darkness put a grin on her face, she was ready to fight. Drawing her katana the samurai stepped forward and readied her stance, her blade giving of a brilliant light as she did so. "Time to hit it where it hurts!"

She held back a bit, not using her full speed per Freyd's orders not to stun the boss just yet. So instead she ran at Freyd's back, jumping onto his shoulders before springing off of them to get a boost. "Pardon me, just borrowing some height!" She flew upwards, releasing the stored energy of her sword art and letting it carry her the rest of the way to Wushen as she struck him across the side, leaving a fire singed gash along his side.

Katoka fell into a half roll, half slide as she landed on the ground and readied herself once more to strike, "Alright who's next?!"

  ♪  Torrent of Thorns  ♪  

 

For a moment, Elora's breath had caught in her throat. Staggering backward, she gaped at the colossal saurian who perched proudly along the stone walls that towered above them. Never before had she felt such a crippling sense of insignificance. The scale of such a creature was inconceivable and nearly nauseating for her to regard. He could squish us like insects --, alerted a primal and panicked urge to retreat. Reflex was stifled by the sounds of her comrades -- the barrage of commands that bolstered some fragile semblance of confidence. Terrified eyes watched as her best friend rushed to attack the behemoth. KAT--!, she wanted to cry out in warning. The small samurai had already outpaced her, charging toward their enemy head-on with saber unsheathed.

ACT!, a desperate plea screamed from within. She rapidly followed suit, sprinting faster than she ever knew her legs could carry her. Streaks of light blurred around her as an array of colors seemed to culminate into a cosmic kaleidoscope. For a suspended moment, Elora felt as though she was flying, her feet practically gliding across the ground. For once, the stimuli of everything around her became silent -- relegated to the background of a single, unbreakable focus. This was euphoria! The thing she was always capable of but could never seem to achieve.

Senses honed into a disruption ahead as Katoka leapt from the earth and soared into the heavens above. She needed to follow her, to ascend to a greater height. As if by some animalistic instinct, a possible solution revealed itself. Reorienting her spear, Elora drove the butt of its shaft into the ground, channeling the momentum of its energy to pole-vault herself into the air. The maneuver worked better than she had expected, propelling her body several meters forward and toward the beast. With a violent outcry, she spun her weapon. The extent of Essential Verdigris's gnarled staff seemed to twist and gleam hypnotically in the shattered light. Just as it slowed to be lodged within her grasp, a razory contact with reams of scales below. Elora jerked to a sudden stop as the weapon's head plummeted into the dragon. Steely eyes ignited with a fury that traced an invisible path toward escape. With a measured release, Elora pushed off of the dragon, propelling the length of its hip as carved flesh erupted into a torrent of pixels. Unsteady knees soon found themselves buckled by rocky land. She fell forward for a moment, then gathered her faculties to recover from the fumble. 

Just like that!, a reaffirming voice presented itself.

Violet stared up at the massive dragon that was now bearing down on them, her eyes narrowing underneath her mask. It was finally time for the fight for their lives to begin. "Brace yourselves, everyone!" she shouted, unsheathing her weapon, and fully bearing into her crouch, queuing up her <<Charge>> Skill. "If any of us falter now, someone's gonna end up dead! Now let's show this scaly bastard what we're made of!"

she chuckled at Freyd's comment. "Does it ever, shadow man?" she mused, stepping out of her crouch to move forward at an even pace. "You just do your job, and piss it off so we don't take the heat. You've still got the funny lil Evasion build going, right? Put it to good use!" 

Violet could see both Kataoka and Elora falter for just a moment before they sprung into action, one of them deciding to use Freyd as a springboard for their attack. She waited for her friend to finish drawing the Aggro of the boss, trusting Freyd to keep <<Wushen>> off of them as best as he could. She sprung forward, Charge launching her forward at the boss. Her eyes narrowed immediately once she realized that it was making no attempts to dodge. 'The hell...? A boss with no Evasion?' she thought, skidding back towards her party as the others began to charge forward, 'That's very strange, better keep an eye on that.'

As she made her way back towards the group, she patted Elora and Kataoka on the back in reassurance. "You're both doing great, keep hitting it as best as you can." Violet affirmed, grinning at them. "Don't let the jitters get you now, we'll keep you kids alive. Freyd and Hirru are gonna do their damndest to make sure we don't die. We need to repay them by making sure that we kill this damn thing! The people who cannot fight are relying on us, we can't afford to let them down!!"

The good, the bad, his hopes and dreams, every decision he had made; they all lead here, to this moment. It was a turning point, a cog in the wheel that would either push him to greater heights or end his journey altogether. He stared up at the towering dragon and a memory flashed before him: Elwood, in his chair near the window, fitting in one last sentence before the end.

"You're what the world needs, Stephen."

For the first time, he unsheathed his blade. Along its path, shadows trailed behind. Blood-red electricity sparked across its body. It pulsated in his palms as if it had a heartbeat, as if it were alive. It screamed at him to move, to fight, and he obeyed, his mind occupied by thoughts of the past—of what could have been. 

His legs moved instinctively. The battlefield approached swiftly, a warzone of glowing weapons and flashing lights. The dragon was unbothered by their flurry of strikes and slashes. What was man to a god but insignificant?

Even so, he pushed on. The blade's whispers were unintelligible, yet he understood them. A connection between it and its wielder had formed, not so much a bond as it was codependency; he required it to survive and it required him to feast.

The voice grew louder and louder until he found himself in front of the dragon. Steel touched flesh and the red pixels that flew from the wound were absorbed by the blade. It hummed, growing heavier by the second. He felt it too, a sort of pleasure that he could only describe as hunger being quenched and followed by a sudden emptiness. His mind went blank.

And for a short second, there was no dragon, no teams, no battle. He was home and surrounded by faces he recognized. Family.

Then, his cold gaze met Wushen's.

As they stepped through the gate, the crystals light seemed to be less brilliant as he thought.  The seemed to shine on in the brilliance of colors, each a representation of the crystals above.  Were they not also representations of the elements around?  He forgot which one was which though..  Blue for Water?  Red for Fire?  Green for wood.. The heck is yellow?  Though, that would all come to a fissure as the crystalline walls seemed to move.  The boss wasn't in the room, it was the room.  Large and intimidating, the serpentine body would coil all around the area with only the head coming down to greet them.  Though, it felt that it wasn't really looking at them.  Was it.. looking out the door?  Also, those orbs that are glowing in a feint hue.  Were those.. the same color as the crystals?

As the combat was about to begin, Freyd would call on them all to action.  Though there was something odd in his calls.

"Wait.. Freyd.. Where did you ..?  And I can't.."

And he's gone.  Their tank had wanted Hirru to worry about healing, but then slapped out a request to uses his Delay Technical sword art.  This was an issue though, as the hunter had to no such art anymore.  Even more so, there was the sudden information dump that he gave.  Was this part of the meeting?  Did he give those in his notes?  The hunter couldn't say.

"I can't use that sword art, anymore!  I'm a healer not a striker!"

With that though, if the hunter were to quick change now, it would take a toll towards the next few actions that he could perform.  He would work on the energy cost that everything was going to start pulling, and used the Hyperactive addon upon himself.  This way, the energy costs would not be an issue with his recovery procs.  Thankfully, Morningstar had used his TECH to disrupt the creature.  Why Freyd called for it instead of a shattering art seemed odd.

They came en masse. Yet another cadre of deluded adventurers, would-be heroes in search of their fairy tale ending. And an ending they would have, though perhaps not the one that fit with their ideal. This group was not so loud as one of the others, and not quite as troublesome as the last. Still, they were vexing in their own way, and they demanded attention.

Wushen passed a silent snort of indignation. The heaviest of sighs heralded a wave of frigid air, a creeping chill that crawled across the skin of those who stood in the presence of the All-Consuming. Its gaze flickered across them all as they railed, seeking to find purchase in his chitinous scales, desperately searching for weakness.

But naught came to naught. There was no weakness to be found, save for in their own hearts. The mythical monstrosity rose up to its full height before the brazen leader who dared to presume to understand the workings of its mind, and who peered into the subtleties of the nether. Because when one stares too deep into the Abyss, the Abyss inevitably stares back.

Freyd drew the beast's attention, if not it's animosity. It was not a kindred spirit of darkness that looked down at the man, but a primordial entity that took offense to a  pale imitation. Wushen lifted its head, opened its maw, and all the world became heavy. Gravity drew them down, heaviest at its nexus point around the tank, drawing him down toward the ground- through it- seeking to bury him.

Though Death would come for all of them, it would be quicker for some than for others.

• In addition, every successful attack against the player with the highest hate reduces their hatred by -2

Larger than Life:

• DoT’s last half as long.

Gridlock:

• When reaching 50% of its total HP, further damage is ignored until it transitions to phase 2. Transitioning to phase 2 consumes its post action.

It hit, hard, but not really really hard?  Freyd hadn't really been sure what to expect.  In fact, in retrospect, the thing had actually missed more than hit, and spectacularly at that.  Sure, there was this whole mass effect gravity thing happening, and the boss was looking all ominous in its dark edgelordy magnificence, but something still seemed really... off.  Like, Jell-O actually sticking to a wall kind of off.  Somewhat let down, the Whisper squinched his face up as he fathomed unsuccessfully for some reasoned explanation and found none.

"Umm... huh?  Wasn't there supposed to be more Earth-shattering kaboom?"  Glancing around the room, everyone was dutifully going absolutely gonzo on the beast, but with no real discernable effect.  No health bar?  There's always been a health bar.  What gives?  Scratching his cowl mid-melee, when he should really have been dodging, Freyd spared himself a moment to glance askew at the other groups for evidence that the thing was operating in rotation.  Nada.  Just lots of glowy light crystals and a boss with little tiny somethings spinning around its head that they couldn't quite discern yet.  Some of the other groups had triggered a few DoT's but that hadn't done much beyond the usual expectations, save maybe fading a might faster than the norm.  "I'll take care of delaying it this round.  The rest of you have fun storming its castle... wherever that is.  Just don't tucker yourselves out too much.  This isn't even close to over yet."

Heck, it barely feels like it's even started.

"Persi."  He pointed at one of the orbs circling around Daddy Shen-Long's head.  "Fetch."  Still whirling about him, the shadow creature condensed into her more common mongoosey form and darted up the massive monster's head, bound and determined to catch herself a shiny.  Freyd, meanwhile, fetched himself a pair of the brightest and most jagged crystals he could find and started scrawling on the serpent's form as forcefully and brightly as he could:

Mina Recovers 4 EN from passive Regen. . .

Violet let out a low growl, staring up at the dragon as it started bearing down on the other parties. Night and Nari were both swatted at by the dragon, its claws biting away a portion of their healthbars. Freyd had managed to dance out of the way of the boss, the slippery man not bothered in the least by the massive monster that was bearing down on all of them.

At freyd's comment about storming its "Castle", she let out a snort of laughter, shaking her head "Oh please, our princess is on a different floor my guy." she replied, "And we can't storm the castle til' we kill its keeper, no?"

Her blade started to hiss, smoke starting to billow from the handle. "This guy likes to fuck around with elements, right..?" she murmured, holding up her blade for a moment, prepping herself for another mad dash towards the boss. "Lets see how this guy reacts to being set on fire and getting freezer burnt!"

Violet's blade bit into Wushen's flesh, a burst of blue, red, green, and purple all splashing across its body. Her blade had gone from smoking, to being lit ablaze with blue and purple fire, the hilt still emitting black smoke. The toxic venom that she'd applied earlier was oozing from the blade, the edge of the blade dripping with a bright acid green color. She fell back to the rest of her party, swiping her hand across Lament to quell its flames, the blade abruptly returning to its sooty black color.

"Batter up, guys!"

The panic she had felt mere moments ago seemed to disappear on the spot. Is he...is he just fucking with it?, she tried to decipher Freyd's lackadaisical retorts through an uncharacteristically-stupefied expression. Surely enough, their intrepid captain was sauntering over to the serpent just to graffiti its scales. Had she not been holding her spear, Elora probably would have face-palmed at the sight. Regardless of his reasoning, she felt disarmed by the display. Maybe this is going to be easier than I thought. Tricolor_mina's playful banter further reinforced the change in tone. Alright, I can get behind this -- I'll have some fun! Following in the footsteps of her fuchsia-haired comrade, Elora decided to give stunning a go. Even if it didn't count as an elemental attack, at least it was taking a different approach. 

Now, where to attack., she tried to discern through the noise of everyone attacking in tandem, It's head? No -- too high up? I guess that just leaves the rest of the noodle --" Instead of slicing across, Elora decided to go horizontal. With one hefty thrust, she'd managed to plunge nearly half the length of her spear betwixt the keratin armor. In a way, the imagery was reminiscent of a comically oversized splinter. Her folly, however, was assuming the weapon would dislodge as easily as it'd entered. 

"Ah, geez --", she pouted as a boot planted against the thing's body to offer additional leverage.

By the looks of things their attacks weren't really doing much of anything. The lack of a health bar really didn't help them at all either. "What the hell are we supposed to do?" she asked aloud to no one in particular. Kat had done raids in MMOs before and generally there was some sort of mechanic that needed to be completed, a task or objective met to enter a damage phase or stun the boss. "What are we missing?"

Katoka watched as Freyd ran up to graffiti the dragon while he sent Persi to do what she did best, mess with enemies. She face palmed for a moment but didn't really see much else to do other than try attacking once again. Elora seemed to have the same idea as she stabbed the creature in it's under meat. "Well, a baby slap didn't work the first time, I guess I'll try something with a bit more substance."

The samurai sheathed her blade and crouched down into her preferred attack stance, removing a portion of her blade as a sword art charged in it's sheath. As per her signature, electricity began to gather and whip around her. Time seemed to slow her Katoka as droplets of sweat from her body and water that dripped from the stalactites from the ceiling almost seemed to hover for just a moment before she vanished from sight.

Reappearing again in front of the great dragon, the blonde had slashed him this time on the face. The red mesh of his wireframe showing from a large slash that dripped black ichor, the crash of thunder sounding a moment after as electricity leapt from the wound. Kat landed once more in a roll before retreating back to her party, pleased with her attack and hoping that did something to Wushen.

"Keep calm!  Carry out your attacks!"

He would call out to the rest of them.  If their regular attacks wouldn't work, then this round of attacks would cause more to occur.  He could see many different effects pooling together from every attack that their group and from the others.  He couldn't fully see which one was which, but there was some heavy damage over time effects and elemental hits in there.  As the so called 'Elemental Warlord', the hunter would think that this may invoke some kind of response.  More so than what it was currently doing, which was relatively ignoring them.

As Freyd had the boss relatively secured, he didn't have to heal anyone so far.  Even more so, he didn't feel that either barrier would be necessary.  That brief look towards the other groups was towards Nari and NIGHT, whom did seem to get hit by the dragon's attack.  They were too far away to see how much it seemed to hurt them, but all and all figured that they were both not worrying about it, nor was their healers.  The party was doing well, but a certain one was specifically burning their energy reserves.  Hirru would think to push hyperactive on them next time, but for now, he would get close enough for a yellow light to fall from his shield to Mina's arm, setting it aglow for a moment.

"Don't let up!  I can help your energy reserves as you go!"

He grasped at his own sanity, struggling to keep control of his own mind. The blade was so heavy in his hands; even his previous greatswords were unfit to compare. It called to him, poking and prodding at him, urging him to hand over the reins. His vision grew red and blurry as he began to slip out of consciousness.

Freyd's voice rang in his ears, pulling him from the edge. Delaying? What did he mean? What was not close to being over?

His eyes grew wide and he swung at Wushen once more. A strange combination of electricity and frost collided at the tip of his sword, amplifying his damage. He retreated, moving closer to his team to reconvene.

The rest were also tossing attacks at the dragon. Morningstar could not tell if anything was working, though.

He stared at himself in the reflection of the blade. He did not know what to think anymore.

They came rushing outwards and around, fleeing beneath its form as if a fly to a beast. It felt contempt as they moved around it, bit at it, gnawed upon its flesh. It felt the contempt shift to frustration - not anger, these things deserved no anger. Frustration as they tried to draw its attention towards them. It could feel the bit of tooth and claw, like insects sliding between its glorious scales. 

Wushen ignored their cries, their attempts to draw it out. It wanted nothing more than to lash out uncontrollably at the little fleas around its body, but something held it back. It was not pity, nor restraint… it could feel that the time was not right. Not yet. It waited, patiently, watching as the small insectoid sized creatures moved throughout its home, intruders that showed nothing more than disgrace and disgustful behavior. It would have its revenge, soon…

They were persistent little creatures. It would acknowledge that in their stead. Persistent, but not long lasting. It knew no fear as it stared down at the things, readying itself. Its body coiled, pulling back as it prepared to swat those who dared draw close enough to irk the ire of Wushen. It had not slumbered all this time only to suffer these things.

They moved in small groups - clusters of pests that seemed to follow one who led many. Wushen could see one of these - coiled within shadow and cloak, attempting to create for itself a vestige. A name. A notoriety among those that surrounded it. It called to Wushen, and yet it was little more than a pest - a thing to be swatted, and forgotten. The wyrm flicked its tail, lashing out lazily towards the pest, turning its eyes elsewhere, on to more important things…

• When reaching 50% of its total HP, further damage is ignored until it transitions to phase 2. Transitioning to phase 2 consumes its post action.

"Thanks for the pick-me up!" she called out, her blade biting into Wushen's flesh once more. She hadn't even realized she was almost halfway through her energy reserves, the emulated straining of her body to keep up urging her to take it back a notch. Even a seconds worth of hesitation could be lethal, something that could get each and every one of them killed. As she pulled back this time, she could see the health bar of the giant dragon as it loomed above their group.

a wince crossed her face as she saw Freyd get buffeted by the massive dragon. Even though he was on tank duty, that still had to hurt. "Watch yourself, bud!" she called out, only to flinch as the dragon's eyes turned her way. She swallowed thickly, a chill running down her spine as she realized that somehow, already the aggro of the boss was actively starting to switch to the DPS players. 'Shit, that's new..!'

"It looks like that last wave of attacks did something to make it reveal its health!" she bellowed, backing off from the dragon with a wary look on her face. "But it's messing with Freyd's Aggro capability somehow! Everyone, watch yourselves!"

That last attack had actually helped it seemed. The looming dread Kat had been feeling while being unsure of their enemy's health pool was quickly replaced with shock at the sight of six health bars. Thankfully they had depleted the first and were entering the second by this point, at this rate they could potentially hit his half health mark soon. The dragon turned hit attention to Freyd and attacked, this time hitting his mark. She took a step forward in concern but she saw his HP bar barely move.

Katoka let loose a sigh of relief, she knew that he wouldn't be tanking without being able to take a few hits, but it still worried her. She watched Mina attack, first of the group to react this time. The samurai followed suit, racing towards the massive dragon with her blade glowing bright blue. She planned on attacking the beast's head again but it whipped it's head around at the last second, causing her to miss her mark. Instead her blade bit into the scaled neck on her opponent. She didn't get the desired effects like the did last time, but at least she managed to hit him.

Leaping back once again she watched Wushen turn towards her, his gaze baring down on her small form. Kat took a step back, her grip on her weapon tightening. Mina was right, his attention was now pulled in her direction. "Shit shit shit shit, he's looking at me!"

It finally seemed like the fighting was going somewhere, as the boss' stats seemed to come into view.  They still had a long way to go, but they seemed to be running through it pretty well.  Even when the creature shifted its tail to smack them.  The wind it produced would have swept them away, if not for the tight quarters that made the tail drag the ground.  This would still hit their tank, Freyd, as he took the attack ridiculously well.  It even sounded like a hard hit, but the man's hp didn't dip barely a blip.  It was here that the hunter thought about something.  Did.. the boss not have a heavy attack?

This revelation would spark some thought in the hunter before something would catch his attention.  There was something odd with the dragon's movements, almost as if there might be a shift of hate soon.  Hirru felt that this was going to be rough, but stayed his course.  If the boss was only doing so much to them now, then it was probably going to get heavier later on.  He stayed his hand to use the barriers, and instead threw out another energy patch at the pink haired woman.

"Mina!  Katoka!  Be wary of an attack incoming!  Freyd, can ya slap it a little harder?  The thing doesn't even like looking you in the eyes before giving you tail."

He tried throwing in a joke, as Mac sometimes would.

Her eyes locked onto the beast's tail as it lackadaisically sloshed into Freyd. The sight of it made her skin crawl, not only because of its target, but because of the thing's disgustingly serpentine qualities. A sudden shiver ran down her spine before further inspection revealed that her companion was fine. Elora took a pointed breath. He's good. Barely even a scratch. Reorienting her attention back to the battle at hand, she tried to hone focus onto -- Health bars. Sure enough, six meaty HP menus now draped above Wushen. It was impossible to ignore the subsequent pit that formed in her stomach. That's a lot. She swallowed, trying to force it down. This wasn't the time to panic, it was the time progress. Planting a boot into the rocky ground below, she launched off with the other to free her weapon from the flesh of the legless lizard.

"I'll give it something to look at!", she half-taunted, half-reassured as another swipe of her spear dug into Wushen's side.

Morningstar's attention was drawn to the health bars that appeared above the dragon's head. They had dealt a decent chunk of damage after all. He followed Elora's lead, weaving in an attack after her own. The Phoenix's power circulated through him and, thanks to Hellstorm, staved off the effects of his blade. His mind and heart were clear now, his focus unwavering.

He slashed the dragon along its side. It was not as strong of a hit as his last but it did the trick; it was yet another wound left on the beast's body. The health bar dropped even further from their repeated attacks. For the first time since they had begun, he looked around at the other groups, taking breaks in between attacks to speak amongst themselves as they battled for their lives.

In spite of their attempts, the dragon remained strong. Its health bar was still far from reaching the half-way point; they had a long way to go.
