[BR-F27] Paving the Way to Floor 28 [Team Freyd]

The end was in sight. With only 2 health bars remaining Wushen was bound to be finished in a few more rounds. Unless he had some sort of trick up his sleeve, which Katoka wouldn't put it past him.

Mina and Elora were getting near the end of their EN ropes, but Kat still had some gas in the tank. She had been lucky up to this point, managing to recover a fair amount of her energy on her turns, but even she would run out soon. She rushed in once more, the same as she had. She wasn't good for much else other than attacking her opponents relentlessly until they were felled.

The samurai's blade was held low as she rushed in, in preparation for a hard hit. Her blade glowing with a radiant light as her sword art charged and released in quick succession. Her body left the floor with ease, soaring through the air as she yelled out. Her sword hit once again, as it had each time she swung, cutting deep into Wushen and leaving a red wire frame trail in the wake of her destruction.

Katoka would not falter. She would not relent. This dragon would be slain and she would be there to make sure of it.

"We're nearly there!" she yelled, "Don't stop unless you have to recover, give it everything you have!"

Gauging their progress through the lens of a machine mind, Freyd poured over mental calculus and weighed options.  They were running out of steam.  Even tossing the numbers aside, their spirits were starting to wane with exhaustion.  Mina carved them a path forward with elegance and meticulous precision.  She’d truly come to shine in the fullness of her power. ‘What would Rosa say if she saw her little Violet now,’ he wondered?

Hirru, ever the hero, pulled off another miracle with a bit of cleverness mixed with willful resolve.

“Ingenious!  Well done, my friend,” Freyd whispered to himself, not wanting to distract them during their assault. “We’re lucky to have you with us.”

A flash of verdigris and lovably awkward grace flowed to his left even as azure lightning pincered from the right.  Elora and Katoka came next, striking deep and harshly into the giant dragon’s tubular torso, threatening to split the spoop noodle in twain.  He heard the warble in the taller girl’s voice.

"I don't think I've got much more in me, guys. I'm sorry to leave you all hanging like this..."

Her success had drawn Wushen attention and dark ire.  His void-like gaze and disdainful, defiant sneer locking itself upon the elfin woman.

“Oh no…”

Something panged inside, probably still three sizes too small for him to truly understand its significance, yet… but he felt it.  The price of burgeoning emotion was its tideful ebb and swell, the latter always carrying a risk of overwhelming sense and reason.  Freyd’s machine-like shell had been constructed to explicitly contain darker impulses: anger, fury  and rage. By letting in love, despite his callous caretaker’s insistent protests, he’d created a door that swung both ways.  Closeness carried the fear of loss.  Freyd finally felt that fear, its icy hand gripping like Wushen’s claw over his heart, clenching to the crush.

Did he withdraw and go back to the cold and isolated shell?  Could feeling be set aside again and at what cost?  Or did he risk embracing it and touching the utterly cold oblivion of the void, again?  Taking a moment to glance at his hands, they shone with the sheen of Hope’s Covenant - Resolve; a weapon forged with scraps of a certain infamous red cloth and laced together with promise.  Only a mental flick away beckoned his more traditional fare, a weapon forged from the ashes of a fallen gemini cast in the form of a certain NPC gate guard he’d come to think of as a friend.  Once a sword, then staff, and now a strangely flimsy yet potent ribbon of sheer nothingness, each form was contained by the tiniest sliver of holy power.  So bare was that seal that its contents still managed to eat at his hands whenever he dared to don it: a toll taken from its wielder.  

Seeing Hirru in the flanks, still holding their group aloft in a fight that could have sunk them long ago, he reminded himself of the man’s story.  He lived by his principles despite all odds and made the hard choices.  He knew the meaning of sacrifice.

Katoka’s words struck to his core: “give it everything you have!"

‘They’re right,’ came the sublimely calm tone of Montjoy’s inevitable interjection, the serenity of the shadow's voice in Freyd’s mind alone.  ‘It’s time, Takeshi.  Do what you came here to do, and face the consequences.  Do it for them.  Do it… for her.’

Limbs lurched suddenly forward with lethal intent, even as hope faded from his grip to be replaced by pride and unrelenting purpose.  This was the dark side of resolve - it’s own untamable shadow that drove it forward against any obstacle.  He would grind down the mountains if he had to, or settle for a dragon of matching size, even if it meant risking losing himself to that darkness.

Samael’s Pride manifest, Freyd charged, unbridled, to cast his fist upon the dragon god.  The seals withdrew as if on queue.  Pride was always hungry, and the timing could not be more perfect.  A screech of keening to shame an entire horde of banshees sliced through the din of the battlefield.  Oblivion had been unleashed and dined on everything in its path, including air and mob alike.

Contact.  Flesh dissolving at his touch, Freyd pierced the elemental warlord’s hide and unleashed his consuming wrath within, devouring every mote and fractal fragment foolish enough to be within reach.

“I’ve tasted the blackness of Orgoth's tainted blood and even the deepest Malevolence of Shadow,” he spat through gritted teeth, his hands burning as the same weapon that carved up the boss threatened to do the same to him.  “It’s not my turn to be afraid Wushen… it’s yours.”

Additionally, the squad had fell their second head. On their path to victory, they claimed the lives of both Overgrowth and Serration.

Morningstar glanced up at Wushen, towering above them with an ominous glare. It was shocking, he thought, that none of his teammates showed any fear despite what faced them.

He could feel it, even though they were nearing the end. There was no shaking it, the creeping dread that followed him around like a plague. They would be fine.

And yet he questioned that still. 

Two health bars remained and the end felt so distant. He followed his teammates in once more, their attacks returning to Wushen rather than the ghostly heads of Serration and Overgrowth. He felt the impact of cold steel cutting flesh and scales, the weight of his blade dragging him along its vicious path.

Two health bars remained and victory could not come quicker.

The eyes of the mighty Wushen darkened as lids scaly lids cascaded over them. The voices of the divided chaos, that fueled his power generation after generation, had ceased. Its neck twisted and writhed with excruciating pain as its scales tightened and compressed, causing the dragon’s size to decrease every so slightly. The focus points on its body, each one that represented a different element of the land, seemed to pulse at a slower rate. Even the elemental visages of Wushen himself that sprouted from either side flickered, the images almost seemed to try and hold themselves together and not give into becoming nothing but a dissolving mist.

This could not be happening. Not now, when he was so close to achieving his goal.

And it was the fault of this gathering of warriors that plagued this floor. HIS floor of the towering castle of Aincrad.

He would not stand for it, and he would not go down without a fight.

Releasing all of his pent of frustrations and rage, Wushen’s screeching roar caused the entire cavern to shake and rumble. Various crystal structures cracking and falling to the ground, the players just barely managing to avoid being hit by the splintering rain of colored crystals.

Using what power it had left, another wave of ice walls rose in place, though these much thinner.. their structure already showing signs of melting. And as three heads of the creature had fallen, another three rose in their place.

The dark scales on the side of Wushen's long neck now shimmer with a intense, incandescent orange glow. A palpable heat emanates from the dragon, enveloping the onlookers and transforming the atmosphere into an unbearable inferno, akin to standing at the very mouth of an active volcano. An awe-inspiring image, resembling Wushen's primary head, but fashioned entirely from a rolling, boiling sea of crimson energy looks down upon the players with fire in its eyes - both figuratively and literally. Smoke billows from the corners of its mouth, while a majestic mane of raging flame cascades down the length of its back. The entity Brimstone reveals itself to this new, pathetic batch of so-called warriors.

Petty:

• Using [Delay] sword arts (Does not stack) will reduce the next BD 9-10 effect that a head will produce to BD:10 only, making a BD: 9 a normal attack.
• In addition, a player using a Mass Healing Crystal without any hatred generation skills/enhancements gain +2 Hatred.
• BD 9-10, Applies Keen 3 and Focus to Wushen, Brimstone, Caustic, Novalite, Serration, Overgrowth

Beyond Care:

• Each round at the start of the bosses turn before its post action, the highest hate from each group decays by -1. In the event of a draw then this ability targets the player that has any hatred generation skills/enhancements. If none is present it will be the last player to generate hatred outside of attacking.
• In addition, every successful attack made against the player with the highest hate by Wushen directly reduces their hatred by -2

Larger than Life:

• DoT’s last half as long.
• Wushen is immune to disables. However, when a Disable is applied, DoT effects applied in the same round will last their full duration. This also breaks Wushen's concealment on his HP Bars
• Enhancement effects that match the element of a head are ineffective. Please see the head in question to see what enhancements it matches. 

Multi-Faceted:
During Phase 2, A number of different heads will cycle to each available party. One of the following heads will become targetable by a team: Brimstone, Caustic, Novalite, Serration, Overgrowth. If this head is felled, but any other remain standing it will become Flailing. These heads utilize Wushen's hatred values. The total HP of Wushen are shared with Heads, destroying one of the heads deals its full maximum to Wushen when felled.

Cauterize:
After a head enters the Flailing state where it cannot be targeted except by healing effects, it remains at 0 HP. Using the First Aid skill or a healing item directly targeting (No Mass Heals/Field Medic target a specific creature) it will close off the wound and stop it from attacking temporarily. Using these effects on a Flailing head does not restore the bosses HP.

Cordoned Room:
During Phase 2, The entire chamber will be closed off in sections using ice isolating the parties from interacting with heads not within their reach. This barrier can be conversed through but cannot be passed. Once a party's head (Brimstone, Caustic, Novalite, Serration, Overgrowth) has been felled, players can as a post action begin to work to lower the barrier. Burning holes through the ice walls in some way by obtaining a combined LD total of 10 will melt them. Only LD bonuses from the following apply:

• Nimble Addon
• Searching Skill
• Detect Addon
• Reveal Addon
• Scouting Familiar Skill

This action must be done to continue to attack the body by each party once the head has been destroyed.

Total Destruction:

• When all spawned heads are felled, the boss will attempt to regenerate them as a post action.
• In addition, Cordoned Room will be re-activated

A blur of shadow streaked across the battlefield as Freyd dashed forward to slash Wushen. Elora watched in awe as her partner's swing delivered more power than any she'd witnessed before. It was moments like these that she felt truly special to have been trained by him, and to have taught him inner strength in turn.

"I'm right behind you--!", she promised through a shaking voice that morphed to one of determination. Katoka was right, this was their opportunity! It wasn't long before a phantom head predictably arose to shield his form. Even if she didn't have the stamina to attack their boss, she would at least ensure its puppet's destruction. 

Absorbing what little recovery her armor had to offer, Elora rushed to sever the searing head. The swift zigzagging motion of her spear sliced through her opponent's stomach, neck, and snout. It was hardly enough to defeat the thing. Nonetheless, she hoped that her contribution would expedite the fight. With only one health bar left, Wushen could only attack them for so much longer. 

"I'll do what I can from here", she reassured her teammates, "It might not be much -- but I'm not giving up. Let's show this thing its maker"

A grin spread across the Cerulean Storm's face, this fight was nearing it's end. She rushed forward, following Elora's attack with a strike of her own. Just a little bit more, that's all they needed. This last head was hopefully all that remained of Wushen's noodle necked rainbow squad. Her blade stuck true, cutting a deep gash into the fire dragon's neck. Sadly her extra Hellstorm damage wouldn't proc this time around but she was confident that she did as much damage as she could.

"Once more!" she called to her party, "Fuck up this guy's face!" she didn't feel blood lust very often, but right this moment, after all the hell this dragon had put them through Kat was eager to put him in the ground. At this moment she wasn't concerned with money, or rare drops, or any other material goods the she could get from this fight. No. Adrenaline coursed through her and she felt alive. More so than she had in any other fight in he past.

Violet let out a roar as she charged at the giant dragon head, a bellow of fury ripping from her throat as she followed through with Freyd's request. They could not afford to falter, not with how close they were. And they were so, so damn close, that single health bar almost taunting her tired body as she tried to make herself keep going.

Her energy bar was almost depleted, and it was forcing a wave of fatigue over her entire being, sweat beading on her cheek as she ground Lament into the burning scales of Brimstone. Her virtual muscles were screaming, practically begging for her to stop, for her to rest. But... none of them could, not yet, and not now..!

"Please..! Just a little more!" she gasped, falling back from the head as her blows knocked it into the red, "We're so close..! Keep going, everyone! Let's polish this snakey bastard off, and knock him right back where they belong!" she gingerly adjusted her grip on her weapon, raising it so that she could prepare to keep swinging for just a little bit longer.

She owed her team that much, at least.

He heard Mina call out to the team, her words ringing out amongst the crowd. Keep going, he thought to himself. His arms and legs ached; they begged for him to quit, to give up.

But, denying their request, he pushed on. Pumping his calves, he lunged at Brimstone. His energy faltered, yet his will moved forwards. He forced his hands to swing, his blade arcing and piercing the beast with its might.

His hit was a success, although it felt more like a failure. The head of the dragon raged on, hanging onto its health by a thread. He was close but unable to take down their opponent.

Still, he had left an opportunity for Freyd, who was behind him and next in line, to kill it. One hundred and ninety-four hit points. At his level, Freyd could probably blow on it and it would die.

He took a moment to recollect himself, his breathing unsteady from the constant combat.

So the slightly-less-huge-than-it-was-a-moment-ago spoop noodle did notice them after all?  As a professional prodder, Freyd felt elated at having finally prompted some sort of actual response from the thing.  A sneer and glare triggered its icy partitioning party trick again, but their group was getting accustomed to the pattern.  A few terse instructions and the others went to work: Elora, Katoka, Morningstar and Mina.  They were the fab four of this raid, at least in his eyes, each having dished out consistent and potent hurt for the entirety of the fight.

"Have at'em!"  Carve his big-ass, flaming noodley bits into... smaller, more sputtering noodley bits."  It wasn't exactly Shakespeare, but they knew the drill and delivered anyway.  Freyd's mind was still elsewhere, having made contact with yet another void boss' digital guts.  Something roiled unpleasantly inside even as he sought to keep up a brave face for their benefit.  They've done most of the work.  I just need to finish it.

 Summoning a twisted cone of black ivory, curved to the one side, he crushed it with his fist to temporarily empower his next strike, knowing full well that the item would reform shortly.  Agony shot through his wrist all the way to his shoulder for the effort.

"I'm not taking any chances.  Brimbot's going down.  Just be prepared to hit Douchen with anything you have left."  Weaving and dodging as the mini-boss began to flail, he crept between its lashing flame tongues, irritating it by denying any attacks purchase.  Hirru's shield provided added protection even as Morningstar stunned the critter long enough to give him the opening required.  Using one of the head's extended whiskers as a whip, he flung himself around the creature's head and built enough momentum to drive his foot into the opposite eye, skidding to a running stop a short distance clear of their fractured and broken foe.  His hands hurt too much for a punch after Samael's most recent feast.  Even balling them into fists felt like gripping pure agony.  Clenching teeth to grit through the pain, he still managed to urge them forward.

"Hirru!  NOW!"

Even as the walls would shake and shatter around them, they would continue on.  Yet another head was bashed, smashed, and slashed to destruction by the team of mostly new players.  Hirru could feel a sense of pride knowing that this would be an experience that wouldn't be tainted by his issues.  He was glad that they could get to have this feeling unfiltered, as the health bar of Wushen would burn down with the beating of yet another head.

"Let the head do it's thing for a minute..  let it melt the ice a bit."

Brimstone's body would flail back and forth, slamming into the wall that kept them cordoned off.  It would be foolish to believe that the fire based head wouldn't do something to the ice wall that cordoned them away.  With each smashing flail, the head would deal more significant damage to the wall.  Hirru would wait until the ice would melt and crack.

"Now.."

As soon as something would pop up, it was then and only then that the hunter would play his last instant song.  The song would lull the beast back into a calmer state, as the creature would start to cool off.  The fire would wane slowly but surely, leaving a stump that would've melted a hole in the wall, where it once stood.  It would only take a little more concentration to use the roots from before to break through it further.  Soon, they would be free, and this boss will be a minor note in their tales

To have come so far, yet feel as if they had gained nothing was the essence of futility. Wushen loomed overhead, immenent, impending in its quest to return All to Nothing. Those who fought against fate did so for naught, and would soon join the baleful chorus of those who had given in. This sudden wave of defiance… mattered little.

The Elemental Warlord balked at their best efforts, now fully intent on bringing its wrath to bear… though, perhaps with less fervor than before. To feel the freedom that came with the disunity of the people and be so close to victory and have it suddenly taken away was gutting, even for a force of nature. 

Wushen's roar did not come again. Instead, it was replaced with a heavy sigh. It was the feeling of exhaustion, of depression, of angst that came when everything that was going so well suddenly started not to.

It was a feeling that the beast was all too eager to impart on these creatures, that it wished to share with them, and even afflict. Perhaps if they tasted futility again, it would motivate them to die.

Wushen offered to them the most bitter of fruits.

Despair.

Beyond Care:

• Each round at the start of the bosses turn before its post action, the highest hate from each group decays by -1. In the event of a draw then this ability targets the player that has any hatred generation skills/enhancements. If none is present it will be the last player to generate hatred outside of attacking.
• In addition, every successful attack made against the player with the highest hate by Wushen directly reduces their hatred by -2

Larger than Life:

• DoT’s last half as long.
• Wushen is immune to disables. However, when a Disable is applied, DoT effects applied in the same round will last their full duration. This also breaks Wushen's concealment on his HP Bars
• Enhancement effects that match the element of a head are ineffective. Please see the head in question to see what enhancements it matches. 

Multi-Faceted:
During Phase 2, A number of different heads will cycle to each available party. One of the following heads will become targetable by a team: Brimstone, Caustic, Novalite, Serration, Overgrowth. If this head is felled, but any other remain standing it will become Flailing. These heads utilize Wushen's hatred values. The total HP of Wushen are shared with Heads, destroying one of the heads deals its full maximum to Wushen when felled.

Cauterize:
After a head enters the Flailing state where it cannot be targeted except by healing effects, it remains at 0 HP. Using the First Aid skill or a healing item directly targeting (No Mass Heals/Field Medic target a specific creature) it will close off the wound and stop it from attacking temporarily. Using these effects on a Flailing head does not restore the bosses HP.

Cordoned Room:
During Phase 2, The entire chamber will be closed off in sections using ice isolating the parties from interacting with heads not within their reach. This barrier can be conversed through but cannot be passed. Once a party's head (Brimstone, Caustic, Novalite, Serration, Overgrowth) has been felled, players can as a post action begin to work to lower the barrier. He would call out as the wall disintegrated around them.  Wushen was their target and it was easily seen that he would fall soon.  Everyone didn't have much energy left, and he couldn't waste time slapping everyone with a little bit of energy each and every time.  It was already a hassle enough trying to beat Mina's burnout.

"Let's finish this!"

His concentration would fall towards his shield, which would glow in iridescent colors.  Hirru could feel his strength leave him, as his energy and strength would be pulled from his body.  It's a rough skill, but you have to take in order to give.  As the light would get stronger, Hirru would hold the shield outwards.  The light would split off in five directions, each attaching to the weapons of his teammates.  One after another would start glowing with iridescent colors as well.

"Everyone!  One last burst!  Attack with everything you have left!"

Sweat rolled own the samurai's back. Her breathing was heavy, her sword in her hand was beginning to feel like it weighed ten times what it normally did. They were close, so damn close. Katoka's grip tightened once more as her katana began to glow, the familiar whine of a charging sword art filling her ears. Just a little farther. Just a little longer. A battle roar escaped her mouth as she charged in, her body seemingly moving on it's own as she advanced.

Dodging rubble and roots of their guardian tree the samurai once again leapt up and struck Wushen on his snoot, a burst of fire an electricity and particles flashing about nearly blinding her as she landed under the dragon. She pushed herself once again, pumping her legs and arms as she ran back to her squad. There would be time for rest when the fight was over, if push came to shove she could get out another attack, but her EN was getting close to empty.

"Keep it up! We're so close!" she called, exhaustion unintentionally slipping into her voice.

Was there such a thing as tanking-guilt?  Freyd felt ridiculous for still having so much fuel in the... reservoir, but the job simply didn't require it in the same gas-guzzling ways as his usual wood chipper-shredder approach to combat.  It was all rather new.  At least he'd had the good sense not to go with his original plan to nerf his damage output completely.  Watching paint peel might have proven more appealing than endless chasing aggro in circles.  How did Shield ever endure it?!  New respect dawned instantly for the absent raid veteran, along with so many others who'd taken on the mantle in the past.

At least he'd managed to serve as a suitable pin-cushion this time around.  Pivoting on the fly had taken some creative reorganization, of a kind that might actually have made Quip proud, not that he'd ever tell her.  She'd lord it over him for the rest of time. 

Hirru's words and invigorating power reached deep enough to stir him out of daydreaming and back to the whole 'battle' thing.

"Alright gang.  We're nearly there.  Thanks for the push, Hirru.  You've been a godsend."  To the rest, he offered equal praise and encouragement, but the words were surely starting to sound empty.  By the looks on their faces, most were reaching exhaustion.  They just needed to wrap things up and move on.

"Time to lead by example, I guess..."  

The words had barely passed his lips before Katoka sliced Wushen a new set of unexpected and unwanted gills.  Elora, Mina and Morningstar soon did the same, each harrying the haggard boss with their particular brand of fury.  It felt good to watch and see, especially so late into the fight.

"Hey!  You glorious bunch of nutjobs. Leave some for me!"

Elora could feel her body become reinvigorated with the help of Hirru's spell. Although her exhaustion was far from cured, she felt strong enough to administer one final attack. "Thank you!", she shouted over to her green-haired companion. "I think we're gonna need to buy you a drink after this", she soon added with a weary chuckle. Elora could only hope that the battle would be over after this barrage of attacks. Otherwise, the next best thing she could contribute was a thumbs-up from the sidelines as the others carried on with the assault.

Setting her sights on the belly of the beast, she once again lashed forward to deepen the serrations she'd previously carved. Even if she couldn't deal a huge amount of damage to Wushen, she would still make it hurt where it counted. Feels like I'm doing more damage to myself at this point., she thought as she staggered back from his form.

A sudden surge of power pulsed in Morningstar's body, enveloping him. He gave Hirru a quick and gracious glance, as if to thank him for the gift. It was a skill he had never seen before and it was more than welcome at such a time.

Morningstar rushed forwards once more. His footsteps were loud, echoing and mixing with the noise that surrounded him. His blade crashed into Wushen, bloody pixels flying from the fresh wounds on the monster's scaled body. Not only was he stronger—he was faster as well. He stepped off to the side, repositioning himself for the oncoming retaliation from their opponent.

The burning in his forearms and legs grew worse by the minute; he felt as though he could fall apart at any moment. Even so, he held on, forcing himself to continue although his body begged him to stop.

They were so close to the end.

Violet was tired. every part of her body was aching and burning, struggling to keep her upright, that wave of virtual exhaustion that came from being out of energy making it difficult to focus. Her rapier was burning in her hand, the hilt spewing smoke again as she looked up at the boss, and at her team doing their damndest to try and finish it off.

Freyd and Kataoka had done a massive chunk of damage with their blows, Elora and Morningstar following up with a hefty sum as well. The other teams were busting out massive numbers as well, aiming for a final hurrah just so they could finish this boss off, and free the way upwards.

Lament bit into Wushen's belly, the blight, frostbite, and burn effect quickly rippling across the giant dragon. Her virtual muscles were screaming as she stumbled back from the boss, her legs starting to wobble a bit.

The beast languished under the magnificent blows, as streams of color in all different warmth's screamed across this wary battlefield. Sprays of color ebbed and flowed like streams of river, like cries of a watchful mountain. Like candle light and that of the stars. Despite troubled breath and burning lungs. Desire pressed on.

Hope pressed on.

The same troubling peel of voices extrude the chamber in a reverberating spiel. The vary meeting of a roundtable having conquered its deep seeded corruption. A select few phrases echoed on past the myraid that seemed more focused.

"a house divided cannot stand"

"What mistake have you made, Hugh?"
"Mr. Hugh, I would like to ask a question. What can you say to all of this?"
"At some point, Hugh..."

A battle raged on two fronts, one of words and the other of blades. Wushen stirred, as its maw grew bright with a cyan blue permafrost. Determined to see this through, determined for its barrier. To protect it. Its strength falters and like a dying star, that light fades. What is left is an army of gnats, to which he believed beneath him wielding weapons of war.

They all closed upon him, mustering the last of their remaining strength to see this ended. Cuts and tears, that left their marks upon his scaled hide. As that bar drew closer and closer to its end. Eventually, it could not hold itself and like a mountain it fell. Each and every player would rush away from the beast or be crushed underneath its weight, as a living skyscraper fell from the heavens.

Ground shook, and tore asunder. Pieces of it broke up and upheaved in an uneven cacophony of fissures. When the dust finally clears, a crawled creeping of a illuminant starlike shine.

*Pop*

And just as quickly it began. Wushen was gone.

Epilogue

All around the cavern, the crystals gleamed. Blue, green, white, red, and yellow, a kaleidoscope of color. Only now, the hues seemed softer. Rather than clashing against each other, a violent battle for attention, they blended into a harmonious blanket of color. In the center of space, a scroll lay amid the still settling dust. As the first curious Player approached it, a feminine voice suddenly filled the air.

“If you’re reading this, then Wushen has been freed. I suppose it is too much to hope that you’ve succeeded in ending its life, as we were barely able to contain it. I also fear that I’m unable to ask such a feat from you, as I contributed to Wushen’s creation. We all did. As we gave in to greed, envy, and wrath, we allowed hatred to threaten our once peaceful existence. The negativity began to corrupt the Elementals that roamed the land. Just as humanity teetered on the edge of war, the Elementals joined together to form an enemy unlike any we had ever seen - Wushen, the Elemental Warlord.

Presented with this shared enemy, the leaders of the now-fractured civilization met to discuss our options. In doing so, we found ourselves also airing our personal grievances, and coming to understandings that we hadn’t been able to before. We began to mend broken relationships, and almost immediately, noticed Wushen’s strength weakening. Armed with this knowledge, we hastened our diplomatic efforts until the Warlord was small enough to trap. Using elemental magic uncovered within ancient texts, we created a golem to keep Wushen contained. To protect the people from its devastation.

This world is not perfect. The Elementals remain more hostile than they once were. Wushen, though imprisoned, remains a threat. Our people are still divided - all the compromising in the world could not unite us completely - but we’ve done our best to work together. The words of power, meant to unlock Wushen’s cage, were split among the leaders of our newly formed territories. Though we are separated, each will specialize in one area, allowing our cooperation to continue. We will work together to protect our people, from Wushen, from themselves, and from the possibility of history repeating itself.

I pray that we’ve succeeded, and that in doing so, allowed a future generation to finally bring about Wushen’s end.
