Xlearsight 0 Posted September 7 Author #21 Share Posted September 7 (edited) Xlear turns to catch the item from Freyd, nodding to him in thanks as he quickly chows down. One of the things he'd never think he would miss is the taste of food, food made by human hands. His thoughts briefly drifted to his mom's cooking. If there was anything he'd die for, that would be it. "It's hard to think of it as a journey. While the concept of something like that will always have some modicum of danger, this particular 'journey' seems more like a virtual gauntlet of death. To think, a world like this, made by a few people who we thought were just giving us another great experience. Makes you wonder how many others might have had this sort of thought. The ones that made this only got lucky enough to get it done. When you remember that about this place, who would want to ever consider finding joy? All people want is to find somewhere to hide and wait for either death or freedom. From some, both are interchangeable." Freyd 0 Posted September 8 #22 Share Posted September 8 Freyd listened as Xlearsight described a rather morose world view; one he used to share to considerable extent. "Nah, man. You gotta ask yourself: can't it be both? 'Journey through the Death Gauntlet' also has a certain ring to it, yanno? Besides, our options are rather limited, and we don't always get to pick our own road in life. Sometimes it's just thrust upon us because we're all too damned lazy, or just in the wrong place at the wrong time." Harsh, perhaps, but Freyd dealt with danger in an overly pragmatic way. Sugar coating wasn't a luxury they could afford. "Like it or not, we each have only one chance to get it right, in here and our there. It's cold and cruel, but we can't pretend it isn't true." A system prompt notified them that the quest objective was complete. Checking the parameters, Freyd frowned with confusion. "Did they change the quest? You used to... nope. They changed the quest. Alright. Time to head back to Zackariah." *** Note: First Lessons quest has been updated since this thread began. Converting to the new version. Three gathering attempts are complete. Retuning to Zackariah. New version:
