Morningstar 0 Posted February 28 #1 Share Posted February 28 (edited) Nari turned away, Siondhe in hand. Before she could leave his shop, Morningstar shot a proposal. A quickly scribbled note on the counter next to him had all of the information relating to a new quest that his broker had discovered. He'd already blocked off space in his calendar to meet with Dockmaster Ryland at the Ladonian Skyport in three days time. "You in?" He asked Nari, who'd promptly accepted. *** Three days later, he traveled to Ladonia. Bleeding Giant was sheathed and slung over his shoulder. His red coat looked more and more battered with each passing day. It damaged far more easily than his old suit of armor had; but, he didn't mind. Spots of fading colour and ripped patches were proof that he was an adventurer, he thought. When he explained that to Willow, she only shook her head, disappointed that he had already messed up a jacket he had only owned for a week. She just didn't get it. "You! Hey, you!" Morningstar blinked. A merchant with a glass eye and a failing stubble was calling him over. "In the market for some wares?" Before Morningstar could decline, the merchant was already showing off his goods. "I carry all sorts of rare treasures. Do you see this?" He held up a crystal that lit up like a lamp. "This here crystal was a gift from the first Ladonian emperor to his daughter. It's said that-" "I think that's just a glow stone," Morningstar looked closely. The merchant gawked, putting down the stone. He picked up another item: a glass vial holding an unknown purple liquid. "This elixir of flight will cause wings to sprout from your feet!" "I really don't want that to happen." "Well," the merchant ducked down in a panic, searching his crates for some other piece of junk to pawn off on Morningstar. He shot up, holding a small mechanical bird. "What about this! A fierce companion to join you in battle!" He placed the bird atop the counter and let it walk about. It's left leg broke off after only a few steps and its beak burst into flames. Morningstar shook his head. "Yeah, I don't think-" The sudden change of weight on Morningstar's shoulder caused him to spin around. He was just in time to see a short fellow lifting Bleeding Giant off of the ground. He had cut it from the strap that Morningstar was still holding on to. "Hey!" The now swordless swordsman shouted, chasing after the thief. They barreled through the Aquilainean Bazaar, passing multiple guards who seemed perfectly content on not intercepting the short (but shockingly fleet of foot) man. Morningstar stepped hard against the dusty ground and, in a flash, he charged at the thief. He tackled the man and they wrestled each other for the straight sword. Morningstar gave him a good clock to the jaw and scooped the blade out of his loosened grip. "Get outta here," he huffed, nudging the thief on his way. He touched his fingers to the straps that had been severed. "Fantastic. Now I've gotta hold the damned thing," he muttered. He looked up and cursed, realizing the thief had granted him one unintentional favor. He had guided Morningstar to the skyport, where he and Nari had agreed to meet. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 3 #2 Share Posted March 3 They'd agreed to meet at the skydocks themselves, and although Nari hadn't wanted to show up too early, she'd still started her day far before she normally would've done. She found herself, however, waiting impatiently as Mio slept at her feet, the kitsune realising that they'd have some time to rest and relax seeing as the blonde haired man hadn't shown himself yet. Not for the first time, Nari found herself glancing at the clock and wondering where the man was, their meeting time slowly approaching closer and closer. She'd begun to fidget long ago, and found herself twisting on the spot every so often, the nervous energy making it's way out through her limbs. "There he is." She'd risen from the bench she'd settled into while waiting for his arrival, waving as the blonde came into view and allowing a small smile to break through the frown that had begun to grow. When he was close enough, she tossed a half-hearted jab his way, cocking her head in the direction he'd come from even as she teased him. "What took you so long? Did you get lost, or sleep in? Or did you make the mistake of going to the wrong docks entirely? Are there even any other docks?" She glanced around in sudden thought, the idea never having crossed her mind prior to mentioning it aloud. Perhaps she'd been the one who had gone to the wrong spot, and he'd been waiting on her until he'd traversed out to find her? She shrugged internally, deciding that it would be better not to give the opportunity to lay blame upon herself this time. Instead, she waved a hand towards the docks themselves, and the waiting ships which would begin their quest in earnest. "So, where do we go to get started on all this? I gave the quest a quick once over, but...well, I figured you'd be the lead on this one." She gave him a soft wink, her smile broadening as she stepped to the side and gave him room to lead on. Morningstar 0 Posted March 3 Author #3 Share Posted March 3 "What took you so long?" Morningstar raised his ruined sheath, shaking his head. "I got robbed. Look what they did to this perfectly good piece of leather! Cut the strap right off of it! This is why we can't have nice things." Fitting the sword between his arm and torso, he scoured his inventory for a quick snack. His fruit stock had been freshly replenished, specifically with dozens of perfect apples. The crunchy to juicy ratio was sublime, he thought, and so he summoned two and offered one to Nari. "Captain Star," he laughed, "I like that. This way, soldier!" He took the lead, taking a bite of red apple. "There's a gent somewhere up the skyport and he needs our help. So, basically the start of every quest ever. Not sure exactly where he is but he can't be that high, since it's mostly blocked off. I'll know him when I see him. He's the dockmaster, I was told. Big dude in a fur cape." Morningstar had never been to the skyport before. Actually, most of Ladonia was new to him. He'd come once, not long before the twenty-seventh boss raid, but kept his exploration to a minimum. Back then, he was running on little time. Now, he felt like the clock was on his side again. "I've got to say," he looked up the side of the tower, it's incredible height looming over the pair, "blocking off everything above level ten makes me very curious about what's up top. Is it bad that I want to break in?"
Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 5 #4 Share Posted March 5 Nari took the proffered snack, summoning a knife and cutting thin slices off the core in order to have an easier, more elegant time chewing the fruit itself. She followed alongside Morningstar as he began moving throughout the port, his eyes glancing about and explaining about the height limitations and interest in the floor itself. Nari's own gaze followed his to the tower, her head cocking slightly to the left as he posed the question about breaking in, and the morality behind such and action. "I would say it shows your human side, if nothing else. You said fur cape?" Her eyes passed over the golden cloak that an important individual had been wearing - or one that she assumed was important, based upon his dress and general demeanor - and carrying on searching for their target. "I would say it's natural for us to try and discover what we don't know. I mean, how else would we have progressed - historically speaking - if we'd stopped at our amazement at fire? We'd not be locked inside a death game, that's for sure...but we might still be living without computers, cars...basic technology that we take for granted now. That said, the law around here may not like you breaking in...and I hear it can be pretty fierce at times." She pointed towards a fur caped man in the distance, standing at the edge of the docks with an almost agitated appearance on his face. Motioning towards the man with her right hand, she raised an eyebrow towards Morningstar and shifted on her feet to head towards the man. "Why do they always look...I don't know, helpless? It's like a damsel in distress every time...but not always a damsel. Not even cute half the time, really. Would it kill Cardinal to give us someone who looks...well put together?" Morningstar 0 Posted March 7 Author #5 Share Posted March 7 "I would say it's natural for us to try and discover what we don't know." That was all Morningstar needed to hear. He would break in someday, he decided. He looked in the direction of the fur-caped man. The dockmaster was strong-framed and tall. His hair was short, unkempt and dark. Scars marked everything his armor left uncovered and a giant of a sword hung by his side. He was rugged, with the appearance of someone Morningstar might have avoided on a long bus ride. "Yeah, that's our guy. Does he really need our help? The dude's bigger than both of us combined. He's the one I'd expect to do the distressing." “Something must be done,” he declared, slamming down his ledger. Morningstar rolled his eyes, making his way over to the dockmaster. "Hey, can we help you out with said something?" Ryland turned, surprised to see the red-coated swordsman suddenly in his business. With a sigh, he immediately gave in, spilling an enormous amount of NPC quest dialogue that Morningstar only half listened to. The things he did absorb included pirates, Span 17, and a reward. It was good enough for him. Prompted to take on the quest by a small menu pop-up, he tapped the accept button. “We'd best get going at once," Ryland said, his cape swaying behind him as he took the lead, "their meeting will begin soon." Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 8 #6 Share Posted March 8 Nari had the feeling that her words may have caused a decision for the blonde, and almost at once she felt like she may not have been in the right to suggest he follow through with his idea. Still, she knew that there would be no point trying to take it back now - what had been said, had been said, and whatever decision made would likely be near impossible to unmake. Instead, she gave a half shrug to herself and followed along behind Morningstar as he moved towards the NPC she had pointed out. As soon as they'd initiated contact, the NPC had drawn into a typical dialogue - verbiage and terms thrown about that were likely directly related to the quest, and explanations of lore and events that would help them to understand why they were assisting this random man who had been standing in the centre of the docks looking lost and confused. Nari had paid attention to most of it; knowing partly that it would be helpful in the future and partly worth some col should she sell it to the right information broker. The dialogue came to an end when the Dockmaster declared their involvement, before turning to lead them onwards and away. Nari gave a single glance towards Morningstar before following after the man, her gait quickly catching the taller figures regardless of her shorter stature. As they passed through the docks, she pointed towards a collection of dockworkers in the distance who appeared to be rummaging through some of the cargo and crates that were being unloaded and loading onto the ships. "I'm not dock...person...but are they supposed to be pocketing some of the stuff that doesn't go into the containers?"
Morningstar 0 Posted March 10 Author #7 Share Posted March 10 (edited) "Yeah, I think that's considered stealing," Morningstar said, eyeing the distant dockworkers. A woman among them, dressed importantly, handed over a hefty cloth bag. An armored entourage surrounded her. Before he could ask who she was, Dockmaster Ryland blurted out the answer. "Calas!" He steamed, pulling the attention of every neutral NPC on Span 17. Calas muttered incoherently to her guards, who drew their blades immediately. A dozen floating cursors turned red to indicate their hostility towards the trio. They were badly outnumbered, with Calas and her corrupt dock guards covering her front. Could they take on all of them at once? He glanced at Nari, only to be interrupted by the voice of the dockmaster once again. “Get to that ship,” Ryland cried out, pointing to the far end of the span. The rickety service skiff in the distance listed heavily to one side as it floated in its grungy berth. Hesitation glued his boots to the floor. Ryland wanted to run; mathematically, they stood little chance at besting twelve armed opponents on their own. It was logical to race to the skiff and get the hell off the span but a piece of Morningstar yearned for the fight. Dammit—fine. He heeded Ryland's command, bolting in the direction of the unsteady ship. Ryland followed closely behind him, weaponless and eager to return to safety. He did not turn to check where Nari was and only assumed that she was on the same page. A dagger whizzed by Morningstar's face, grazing his cheek. It clattered to the floor in front of him and he spun around, shocked by the accuracy of the attack. The far-off pirate who had thrown it smirked. Another few inches to the left and it would have hit it's mark. Much closer, Calas and her guards had bridged the gap between the two parties. Morningstar cursed, tossing his already broken sheath aside as he pulled Bleeding Giant out of it. The skiff was too far—they had no chance of making it before the corrupt guards caught up with them. Allowing Ryland to pass him, he switched directions, beaming straight into the fray and clashing blades with the guard captain herself. They each marked each other once, although Calas' parry stopped Morningstar from gaining any upper hand in the duel. The guards, who were far slower than their captain, eventually joined her in combat. Surrounded and left with few other options, Morningstar chose to fight. *** Spoiler Post Action | ST-I (x12, 12 EN): 12 - (Well Rested 3/3; Stamina) = 9 EN Free Action | None ID: 219841 | BD: 9 (crit +1) | BLEED PROC | FROSTBITE PROC | DMG: 324-100=224 to Guard Captain Calas | Calas procs Parry (DMG reduced to 112) Morningstar takes 82 DMG from Vengeful Riposte (324/2=164-80=82) Morningstar | HP: 746/828 (828-82) | EN: 101/110 | DMG: 26 | MIT: 80 | EVA: 6 | ACC: 6 | BH: 39 | LD: 8 (9) | REC: 4 | BLD: 48 | FRSTBT: 40 | Pros: 3 Nari-Lanreth | HP: 1,081/1,081 | EN: 106/106 | ACC: 4| DMG: 12 | MIT: 239 | F.AURA: 16 | B.Healing: 59 | STEALTH: -5 | FRSTBT: 40 DMG; -1 ACC | THORNS: 72 | PARA: 8+| HM: +4 B.DMG | DoT: -36 DMG | IMMOLATION: 40 Dockmaster Ryland | HP: 1000/1000 | DMG: 0 | MIT: 20 | EVA: 2 Ryland’s Big Mouth | The dockmaster can’t help but give voice to his frustrations, cursing out the thieves even while threatened with death. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 10 #8 Share Posted March 10 No sooner had they noticed the on-going thievery, than they had suddenly been directed to escape from the situation at hand. Nari's eyes had shifted to the skiff in question, wondering why they would run - sure they were outnumbered, but they had the upper hand when it came to conflict in the area. She'd been considering ignoring the directive from the dockmaster, preparing herself instead to greet the coming charge of the pirate folk who were clearly readying themselves. The decision had been taken from her, however, as Morningstar suddenly burst towards the skiff, the decision made in his mind to head for safety clear. Nari had paused only for a singular moment behind the blonde, cursing slightly as she made her way after the faster player towards the waiting means of escape. She hated the idea of running - especially when the situation had only just begun - but she couldn't argue with the logic behind the decision. More of the pirate folk had begun to appear, and she found herself lashing out with spear and shield in an attempt to drive them back as she continued behind the other two towards a sense of freedom. As suddenly as he'd chosen to rush away, Morningstar had spun and engaged, the blade in hand and scabbard tossed aside. Nari skidded to a halt, turning with a fluid motion and stabbing spear into the first humanoid thing that had been behind her. "I was honestly worried you were going to suggest running away the entire time. I'm glad you decided to stand and fight! We've got this, just make sure to stay behind me!" Morningstar 0 Posted March 10 Author #9 Share Posted March 10 (edited) "Of course not! I won't suggest it until we're about to die." He dodged one quick stab and deflected another with the flat end of his sword. Calas was skilled, something he found rare in opponents (or perhaps he was too accustomed to fighting alongside Freyd). She left few openings and those that were visible were swiftly covered. They stepped quickly and methodically, weaving around each other's jabs and slashes, blades clashing and sparks flying. Meanwhile, Nari had taken the aggression of the three dock guards, elegantly fending off the group with her war spear and shield. First and foremost, he was worried about their safety; however, Ryland stood behind them, weaponless. His only line of defense was them and while he was fully capable of respawning, Morningstar hated the idea of letting him die at Calas' hand. He scooted back behind his tank, allowing her to control the fight. *** Spoiler note: i've adjusted my health because i forgot to take thorns into account on round 1. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 11 #10 Share Posted March 11 Chaos erupted around her as Nari turned to meet the dock guards that had come to meet them. She could feel as the defensive mechanics of the guards slammed into her, a reaction from her own strike against them - and she realised far too late that they were built as dangerously as she herself was. To the side she could see as Ryland called out, pulling the attention towards himself even as Nari tried to step in the way of the oncoming danger. She considered, if only for a split second, calling out to the man to shut him up, before realising that it would be useless. The system had decided his role, and now the two players would have to deal with it as much as they could. "Ryland may be a lost cause. Focus on bringing down that damned Captain, and we may have a shot at this! Nari took her own advice, bringing her spear back into it's seated position and eyeing up the Captain that stood across from her. She'd managed, for the moment, to place herself between the Captain and Ryland, although she doubted that it would last for long. Her eyes flicked over the figure of the combatant in front of her, and Nari couldn't help but notice the lithe, skilled way in which they held themselves - a testament to Cardinal's creation in a sense. "Alright...keep your eyes on me. No one else is important right now, except me...except that idiot is going to call attention to himself again, great..." Nari could hear him continuing his charade of demeaning the guards - most of whom seemed to not care too much about the Dockmaster's berating - and Nari wondered for the first time if it wouldn't be better just to let the man die. Shaking the thought away, she instead struck out with the spear, aiming for the Captain in the hopes of at least putting them on edge. Morningstar 0 Posted March 11 Author #11 Share Posted March 11 (edited) "The things the brokers don't tell you," Morningstar shook his head, listening to Ryland's shouts. Distracted, he suffered a light grazing to his left shoulder. He winced, glancing down at the red particles that floated off of him, signifying the damage he had taken. Calas, uninterested in the pair of players, pushed her way through their defensive wall. Morningstar stumbled back, caught off balance while she raced towards the dockmaster. "Enough of that!" There was not a chance for Ryland to respond to Calas' assault. She bombarded him with strikes, stabbing him through the torso multiple times. His death was quick, sudden, and without a final chirp from the dockmaster himself. Morningstar's eyes widened as he watched the NPC break into blue shards, floating away with the breeze. It was not entirely unexpected. The fool had engaged in combat without even bringing a weapon. He was a weight on their shoulders; logically, it would have made sense to let him kill himself far sooner. And yet, Morningstar was disheartened by the fact he was gone. He knew the dockmaster would respawn, as quest NPCs always did. Still, it felt as though he had failed. In a flash, he blasted forth, slashing Captain Calas across the back, eager to avenge their fallen party member. *** Combat Morningstar | HP: 688/828 | EN: 84/110 | DMG: 26 | MIT: 80 | EVA: 6 | ACC: 6 | BH: 39 | LD: 8 (9) | REC: 4 | BLD: 48 | FRSTBT: 40 | Pros: 3 | +4 EN +39 HP | -9 EN -106 HP Nari-Lanreth | HP: 1,080/1,081 | EN: 83/106 | ACC: 4| DMG: 12 | MIT: 239 | F.AURA: 16 | B.Healing: 59 | STEALTH: -5 | FRSTBT: 40 DMG; -1 ACC | THORNS: 72 | PARA: 8+| HM: +4 B.DMG | DoT: -36 DMG | IMMOLATION: 40 [0,2]Corrupt Dock Guard 1 | HP: 556/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 | ACC: 2 | THORNS 30 [0,2]Corrupt Dock Guard 2 | HP: 476/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 | ACC: 2 | THORNS 30 [0,2]Corrupt Dock Guard 3 | HP: 556/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 | ACC: 2 | THORNS 30 Old Blighty | Targets struck by a Corrupt Dock Guard have their mitigation reduced by 50 for 2 turns. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 12 #12 Share Posted March 12 An explosion of shards and shattering sounds was all that remained of Ryland's existence as he exploded into the air. Nari felt a single second of disheartening at the possible failure of the quest, before realising that the remaining Dock Guards were still pressing inwards. Raising her shield back to her shoulder, she considered their options as her eyes passed over the complement of various targets before her. The lowered health bar of the Guard Captain came into her view, and Nari gave a nod towards the woman. "I'm gonna take her down, see if that doesn't bring some of the heat off us a bit...so to speak." She moved towards Calas as her spear began stabbing outwards in a rhythmic pattern, pushing the guards back and giving her space in order to engage solely with the captain herself. "I may not have known Ryland, or honestly really cared much about him, but I hope you didn't just ruin this whole quest for me...well, for us. Cause that would be annoying if I have to do this all over again and see your ugly face." Calas gave little in the way of response, simply grinning at Nari as the knightess continued to stab and dance around the counter attacks. She carefully waited for her opening, keeping an eye on the other guards and knocking them back when they came too close to Nari's own position. Just when she was thinking the captain's guard was too good, she saw her opening. Immediately leaping forwards she thrust outwards with the spear, aiming for the lower thigh that had become exposed during a side step. She could see the other guards pressing in, and a sudden shift in her strike caused the spear to lash outwards in a wide arc, aiming for the group that had attempted to surround her in the last moments. Morningstar 0 Posted March 12 Author #13 Share Posted March 12 (edited) The combination of Nari's assault and lingering status effects reduced Calas dwindling hit points to zero. She fell just as Ryland had: without a peep. Her guards charged at the woman that felled their captain, rage consuming them. Morningstar silenced their shouts with a quick and accurate stun, swiping each warrior with the tip of his sword before they could even come near his friend. "Hmm. They're pushovers without the lady. Too bad," he shrugged, tipping one of the paralyzed men over with a gentle kick. "You okay? Noticed you take a bit of damage there." The strongest among their adversaries had been defeated, leaving them with the eleven that remained. The skyrats at the other end of the dock seemed to hesitate, wondering whether they should join in on the fighting or leave it be and escape with whatever loot intended on stealing. He had thought they were a problem for another time, until one charged at him brandishing a cutlass. An upward slash took off the pirate's arm. "It's a shame about Ryland," he said, ignoring the man he had dismembered and looking at the spot where the dockmaster had met his end. *** Combat Morningstar | HP: 637/828 | EN: 74/110 | DMG: 26 | MIT: 80 | EVA: 6 | ACC: 6 | BH: 39 | LD: 8 (9) | REC: 4 | BLD: 48 | FRSTBT: 40 | Pros: 3 | +4 EN +39 HP | -14 EN -90 HP Nari-Lanreth | HP: 925/1,081 | EN: 70/106 | ACC: 4| DMG: 12 | MIT: 239 189 | F.AURA: 16 | B.Healing: 59 | STEALTH: -5 | FRSTBT: 40 DMG; -1 ACC | THORNS: 72 | PARA: 8+| HM: +4 B.DMG | DoT: -36 DMG | IMMOLATION: 40 | +4 EN +59 HP | -17 EN -156 HP | Old Blighty [-50 MIT | 1/2] [1,2]Corrupt Dock Guard 1 | HP: 344/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 | ACC: 2 | THORNS 30 | STUNNED | StunImm[P] 0/3 [1,2]Corrupt Dock Guard 2 | HP: 264/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 | ACC: 2 | THORNS 30 | STUNNED | StunImm[P] 0/3 [1,2]Corrupt Dock Guard 3 | HP: 344/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 | ACC: 2 | THORNS 30 | STUNNED | StunImm[P] 0/3 Old Blighty | Targets struck by a Corrupt Dock Guard have their mitigation reduced by 50 for 2 turns. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 12 #14 Share Posted March 12 "Yeah, I'm okay. A bit more damage than I would've liked, but these shits are as nasty as I can be - maybe not to the same degree, but nasty nonetheless. Adds up over time..." She gave a small huff of laughter at the commentary of the guards becoming pushovers with the captain gone. "You're right, they're going to become a lot easier now that we can stun them. Although I wouldn't say they're entirely pushovers...still have a bit of a bite to them. Best if we bring them down as quickly as possible. Although, I'm not going to be super great at that...I'm built for taking hits, not necessarily giving them." She gave a half shrug before stepping towards the remaining guards. She could see the pirate looking figures heading their way, and realised that they were very quickly going to get overrun if they didn't do something soon to take down the numbers of enemies growing around them. "You don't mind if I let you kinda take the lead on dealing out the damage? I'll focus on bringing their attention to me, as best as I can, at least." "Come on, you grangey flea bitten pirates and...ah, whatever! Come and get me!" She called out as she pulled her spear back into a resting positoon, trying to focus all of the attention on herself in order to give Morningstar a bit of freedom to move about as he desired. A few of the pirates had turned towards her, and Nari lashed out at the frozen bodies of the nearest combatants, aiming for the vital spots that would allow her to deal as much damage as she could. Morningstar 0 Posted March 12 Author #15 Share Posted March 12 (edited) So long as the bulk of the pirates were kept off of him, Morningstar could gradually bring them down. "I don't mind at all. I'm not Freyd, but I'll do my best," he chuckled. The stun began to wear off and the guards and pirate shifted eagerly. He put down two of them without much effort; however, that was all that he could get to before the others were fully functioning again. The other pirates were beginning to look hungry for blood, drawing a variety of rugged weapons from dirty scabbards. A pair of skyrats took the places of the ones Morningstar had killed, leaving them with four adversaries once again. "Keep it up, they're focused on you!" Morningstar said, repositioning himself to target a specific pirate better. He singled out the strangest looking one: a fellow with a hook for a hand and a single tooth made of gold. He swiped at Nari but Morningstar caught his hook (his hand?) with the edge of his blade. "Not today, ol' chap." *** Combat Morningstar | HP: 586/828 | EN: 58/110 | DMG: 26 | MIT: 80 | EVA: 6 | ACC: 6 | BH: 39 | LD: 8 (9) | REC: 4 | BLD: 48 | FRSTBT: 40 | Pros: 3 | +4 EN +39 HP | -22 EN -90 HP Nari-Lanreth | HP: 984/1,081 | EN: 57/106 | ACC: 4| DMG: 12 | MIT: 239 189 | F.AURA: 16 | B.Healing: 59 | STEALTH: -5 | FRSTBT: 40 DMG; -1 ACC | THORNS: 72 | PARA: 8+| HM: +4 B.DMG | DoT: -36 DMG | IMMOLATION: 40 | +4 EN +59 HP | -17 EN | Old Blighty [-50 MIT | 2/2] [1,2]Corrupt Dock Guard 1 | HP: 344/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 | ACC: 2 | THORNS 30 | StunImm[P] 1/3 [1,5]Corrupt Dock Guard 2 | HP: 0/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 | ACC: 2 1 | THORNS 30 | StunImm[P] 1/3 | Frostbite [40 DMG | -1 ACC | 1/2] [2,5]Corrupt Dock Guard 3 | HP: 40/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 | ACC: 2 1 | THORNS 30 | StunImm[P] 1/3 | Frostbite [40 DMG | -1 ACC | 1/2] Old Blighty | Targets struck by a Corrupt Dock Guard have their mitigation reduced by 50 for 2 turns. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 12 #16 Share Posted March 12 Nari's attacks may have been in vain, however she couldn't help but notice that her efforts were at least giving Morningstar a bit of breathing room to deal with the aspect of overwhelming the pirates and guards that continued to swarm towards them. She kept her shield close, prepared for any attacks that might try and sneak through, all while waiting for an opening that would allow her to lash outwards again and take down a few more of the bandits they were facing. "You know...this may be a bit of a late observation...but I'm starting to think that...staying here and facing off against every single...murderous soul that wants us dead...may not have been a great idea." She spoke brokenly in between attempts to dodge and parry the few attacks thrown towards her direction. Most were half-hearted, weak handed strikes that were easily deflected with shield and spear, or simply sidestepped in order to avoid any real danger. The ease and flow of the battle made it seem like the two had the upper hand - so long as she ignored the fact that more pirate looking folk were headed their direction. "Isn't there something in the art of war...about not being surrounded by your enemy? Or am I...thinking of some other media?" Shrugging it off, she decided to take a slightly different approach to their defence, pushing forwards and forcing a path into the centre of the conflict. Bringing the spear into a single-handed fold in her elbow, she spun with the weapon, using her left hand as a brace while the elbow socket itself held the weight of the weapon - providing a dangerous windmill movement in a tight arc. Morningstar 0 Posted March 12 Author #17 Share Posted March 12 (edited) Morningstar slammed his fist into the face of the final dock guard, knocking him to the ground, dazed. He spun his sword coolly, sticking into the mobs gut. It exploded in defeat, leaving them with only skyrat pirates to deal with. He continued his battle with Hook Hand, listening to Nari simultaneously. "Hey," he swiped threw the pirate's wrist, turning him into Hookless Hand, "I recall you wanting to stand and fight! Worst comes to worst... well, we die, but yeah." The skyrats were far more eager to join in on the fun combat session that had begun. Morningstar danced past a few pirates who had ignored him completely and gone straight for the purple-haired tank. "They really like you," he jested. "Not sure about the Art of War, but that does sound like valid combat advice. Advice that we possibly... should have taken," he paused half way through his last sentence, grunting as he swung at No-Hook once more. The pirate stepped back, dodged the attack, and picked up his hook with the hand he still had. *** Combat Morningstar | HP: 577/828 | EN: 53/110 | DMG: 26 | MIT: 80 | EVA: 6 | ACC: 6 | BH: 39 | LD: 8 (9) | REC: 4 | BLD: 48 | FRSTBT: 40 | Pros: 3 | +8 EN +39 HP | -13 EN -30 HP Nari-Lanreth | HP: 1,043/1,081 | EN: 44/106 | ACC: 4| DMG: 12 | MIT: 239 | F.AURA: 16 | B.Healing: 59 | STEALTH: -5 | FRSTBT: 40 DMG; -1 ACC | THORNS: 72 | PARA: 8+| HM: +4 B.DMG | DoT: -36 DMG | IMMOLATION: 40 | +4 EN +59 HP | -17 EN [1,4]Corrupt Dock Guard 1 | HP: 0/600 | DMG: 220 | MIT: 100 80 | ACC: 2 | THORNS 30 | SHATTER I (1/3)StunImm[P] 2/3 [0,2]Sky Pirate 2 | HP: 514/600 | DMG: 250 | MIT: 70 | ACC: 2 | EVA: 1 | StunImm[P] 1/3 [0,2]Sky Pirate 3 | HP: 526/600 | DMG: 250 | MIT: 70 | ACC: 2 | EVA: 1 | StunImm[P] 1/3 [0,0]Sky Pirate 4 | HP: 600/600 | DMG: 250 | MIT: 70 | ACC: 2 | EVA: 1 Poisoned Blade | On MD 9-10, apply Toxic Venom 30 to the target for 3 turns. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 13 #18 Share Posted March 13 They'd gotten into a rhythm now, and as the last of the guards fell beneath Morningstar's blade, Nari began to feel a moment of hope for their success. Although more of the pirates continued to rush forwards and towards them, they were easily being batted aside by the pair - their attacks little more than a nuisance compared to the devastation that Morningstar was bringing to their rank and file. Even her small amounts of technical attacks were helping to quell the tide, even if only slightly. Her gaze slid past the immediate trio of pirates, noticing that the once large wave beyond had begun to thin, and she could see the span of the docks around them once more. Tossing a nod towards the skiff they had originally been rushing towards, Nari commented calmly. "Do you think we still need to even try to...you know, take off? Or do we just finish the lot here that are trying...rather desperately...to overwhelm us? I mean, we've already basically culled their numbers enough that they should remember to fear us if we ever do this quest again...you know, to see if we can keep Ryland alive. Idiot..." She mumbled the final word under her breath, not normally one to talk down towards those who had been lost. Somehow, though, she felt like the death of Ryland deserved commentary of some measure - the man had willingly thrown himself into the fray of combat, drawn all the attention towards himself...and yet had no weapon or means of attacking back against those who cut him down. Even to Nari's tank mindset it had been stupid to do. She stabbed outwards once more even as she shook her head at the memory of the NPC, realising that sometimes people - real and computer alike - in this world were truly idiotic. "I'm game for just...you know, obliterating the entire dock if it comes to that?" Morningstar 0 Posted March 13 Author #19 Share Posted March 13 (edited) Ol' Hookless Hand crumpled to the ground with one last swing of Morningstar's blade. Bleeding Giant cut through him like butter, and then it was on to the next opponent. He focused on singling out the pirates one at a time, taking each one down with as few movements as possible. It got exhausting, swinging that big old sword around. He was built for shorter fights, and usually preferred to go one-on-one rather than two-on-one-million. "Look at this guy," Morningstar said, locking blades with a skyrat who was exerting far too much energy trying to best him. "Does he look afraid to you? These guys are mindless." The pirate seemed to take offense to that last comment, becoming more and more agitated until he flew off the rails, using only his own anger to fuel his swings. Thankfully, it made him even more predictable. "Just don't get us arrested. I still have some breaking and entering to do on this floor and I'd rather they didn't know my name and face beforehand." *** Combat Morningstar | HP: 616/828 | EN: 44/110 | DMG: 26 | MIT: 80 | EVA: 6 | ACC: 6 | BH: 39 | LD: 8 (9) | REC: 4 | BLD: 48 | FRSTBT: 40 | Pros: 3 | +4 EN +39 HP | -13 EN Nari-Lanreth | HP: 980/1,081 | EN: 31/106 | ACC: 4| DMG: 12 | MIT: 239 | F.AURA: 16 | B.Healing: 59 | STEALTH: -5 | FRSTBT: 40 DMG; -1 ACC | THORNS: 72 | PARA: 8+| HM: +4 B.DMG | DoT: -36 DMG | IMMOLATION: 40 | +4 EN +59 HP | -17 EN -101 HP [1,2]Sky Pirate 2 | HP: 0/600 | DMG: 250 | MIT: 70 | ACC: 2 | EVA: 1 | StunImm[P] 1/3 [0,2]Sky Pirate 3 | HP: 388/600 | DMG: 250 | MIT: 70 50 | ACC: 2 3 | EVA: 1 2 | StunImm[P] 1/3 | Frostbite [40 DMG | -1 ACC | 1/2] | Blood Frenzy Activate [0,0]Sky Pirate 4 | HP: 474/600 | DMG: 250 | MIT: 70 50 | ACC: 2 3 | EVA: 1 2 | Frostbite [40 DMG | -1 ACC | 1/2] | Stunned | Blood Frenzy Activate [0,0]Sky Pirate 5 | HP: 600/600 | DMG: 250 | MIT: 70 | ACC: 2 | EVA: 1 Poisoned Blade | On MD 9-10, apply Toxic Venom 30 to the target for 3 turns. We're getting swarmed by what appears to be the underworld of the skyports - and there's definitely an irony in that, let me tell you - and you're worried about getting arrested before you can break and enter into some locked away area of the map? An area that you're not even sure you can enter...am I getting that right?" A quick glance upwards brought Nari's attention towards another concern, one that she knew she couldn't ignore anymore. Gritting her teeth slightly, she shot a glance towards Morningstar, figuring that he was in a similar situation to herself. "I don't know about you, but I'm very quickly running out of energy...keep this up and I'm going to be doing nothing more than some basic stabs and jabs soon...and those aren't going to do much. I'll bring some focus on myself - enough to give you a couple turns to rest and recover - and then I'll look at some battle meditation...see if I can't recover a bit myself as well. Otherwise this is going to get...very painful, very quickly." She turned her attention back towards the swarming group, pulling her shield in towards herself and leveling her spear in preparation to retaliate against any assaults that may attempt to break through her defences. With a roar, she called out towards the group of enemies, drawing all their eyes towards her as the skill activated and caused a soft, violet glow around her. "Come on, you badgering bloodhounds! Come face the fortification that is the knightess, break through if you can, cows!"
