[BR-F28] Into the Woods [Labyrinth Boss]

"Big slap.  Right.  No pressure."

Owij'Be rounded a nearby oak, frost trailing behind its antlers like contrails as it bore straight towards him. Various afflictions inflicted upon it added their various shades to the mix, to the point where the guardian nearly looked to some sort of streaking mutant MLP reject with rainbows coming out of its ass.  Memories came flooding back of Saint Gertrude's daycare, where his mother had regularly deposited him during her internship, abandoning him to the subtle tortures of endlessly looping episodes meant to placate the toddlers in the next room.  How many times had he endured the same inanely cheerful tunes applied like harpsichord jackhammers to his temples and left to scramble the insides of his head until nothing but a drooling mass of kid remained.  Fists coiled to the density of singularities at the  sudden emergence of long-forgotten trauma, to which the Whisper this time refused to yield.

"Fuck no, Pinky Pie." 

Contrary to expectation, Freyd didn't dodge.  He stood his ground, winding up and waiting for the thing to bear down directly into him - or, rather, said eagerly waiting fist.  A Matrix-worthy shockwave burst out from the point of impact the mutant moose's schnoz, rippling outward and through the mob with such force that every ounce of simulated fat within jiggled in the most extravagant ways imaginable.  Crumpling like a twinky doubling as a crash test dummy, Owij'be's grandeur wheezed out like a wet fart mating with an accordion as its avatar compressed inward and tumbled ass-over-tea-kettle over their heads, crashing down without a hint of grace into a bramble on the far side of the dimly lit clearing.

A quick nock of his cowl loudly cracked Freyd's spine, like he was only just finally loosening up, shaking out his hand like it was going to take a minute to get the feeling back.

"Come on, gang.  Let's show this thing who's boss."  A wry grin spread slowly from beneath the trademarked cowl.  "Morning.  Why don't you see if you can do that thing you did, again.  We might actually finish this, real quick."

"Sure," Morningstar agreed.

He gave his body a quick stretch while Freyd and the moose were locked in combat. He twirled his blade, stoking himself up. Then, he swung at the crippled beast, the entire weight of his form crashing against its spine. The bite of Dying Sun shocked Owij'be, causing his muscles to spasm reactively. He looked to Mina. The fight was all but over.

The moose lay sprawled over the dead grass, weak and defeated. Star stepped back, refraining from finishing the job. It wasn't his kill to take. The others had worked through the labyrinth, clearing it of mobs and finding their way to the indomitable boss. He would honor that, and let them complete their quest. He left the slaying of Owij'be for the other two DPS to settle, keeping close in case he was wrong about the creature's fragility.

It was strange, he thought, how calm the end of battle was. He could almost forget how hard they'd fought.

Lament's flames had already quelled, the smoke rippling from the blade fading away into nothingness. four swift, painful strings of blows slammed into Owij'be, stopping the boss mob right in its tracks. Her own attack cutting its armor, damage, and regeneration. Morningstar landing two separate strings of blows that crippled the defenses of Owij'be, leaving it crippled and weak. And Freyd, their godsend, and wonderful walking nuke, cutting it down to size in a blink of an eye. Hirru was stood off to the side, fighting off the crippling cold that Owij'be had slammed him with. Even with that debuff, his watchful gaze would have kept them safe from the labyrinth guardian, any damage it could have done being easily undoable with a single heal.

Now, all they had to do was finish off Owij'be, and the path forward was cleared.

Violet sucked in a deep breath, sliding into a crouch as she readied a sword art. Was charging likely overkill? Oh absolutely, just a single blow from a well-placed sword art would likely finish off the badly wounded field boss. But she was growing tired, her virtual muscles starting to strain as she pushed herself further. So, with a soft sigh, she locked in the guiding motion of her sword art, and <<Charged>>, her blade cleaving cleanly through Owij'be's body, which had started to crackle and warble as it hit zero health.

Violet sheathed lament, before trotting back to the rest of her group. She had her menu open, the location of the potential boss area already jotted down in her notes. "Done and dusted, good shit everyone!" she said dryly, offering high-fives to the other 3 players. "Star, freyd, good call on the stuns. Hirru, thank you for keeping everyone topped off. Now we're one step closer to getting the hell out of this crazy world!"

As the last vestiges of the fallen mob fell and sank into the ground, the hollowed darkness of the clearing dimmed for a time leaving only winded breaths and fledgling recovery.  In the boughs above, the soft red glow of fire red leaves hummed a strange and ominous song as they swayed.  A door had been opened, though the details beyond it remained obscured.  Something vile had corrupted this creature, and the woods beyond.  Freyd had seen it first hand in Glyndebourne and the Magistrate's manor, only to witness it again here.  The pattern was disturbing.

"We can't go any deeper than this on our own.  Come on.  Let's figure out where Ariel went and then get back to a place we can rest and plan.  It may soon be time to call the Frontliners together again."

Confident of his comrades' skills, his concerns hovered closer to the sheer numbers they might need.  Aincrad's players had grown quiet and complacent.  Yet, they were barely a quarter of the way through the castle.  It was time to rouse them once more and dive into this latest breach.

Hopefully, everyone would all make it to the other side.

As players complete the destruction of Owij’be and opening the way that would lead to the floor boss, they would be capable of discerning some clues as they stood at the precipice of that path should they so choose to investigate further:

- A thick stench of decay makes your eyes water and your nose burn. As you move closer to entering, your skin begins to tingle and your vision seems to blur and threatens to go out.

- The sharp sounds of outrage can be heard from within, each more aggressive than the last. You get the sense that whatever lies inside might be tenacious and unrelenting.

- Heavy snaps of branches allude to footfalls, and the weight is immeasurable. But a quick scan of the area around the supposed place, it isn’t much larger than the Arena on floor 24

- The sprays of blood and carcasses surround the walkway toward the door, and those with bodies of humans seem to have been torn open with one hefty bite rending through the armor as if it was a tin can.

- With each scream heard from within the bosses domicile, you hear the slight onset of whispers that feel as though they will pierce your mind and thoughts.

In addition to standard thread rewards, all players present in the completing party will receive 10,000 experience as a bonus.
