[PP-03-Assisted] Mini-Putt Labyrinth <<Search for the Hoya>>

Recommended Posts

"Field boss.  Kinda like a mini-boss roaming the open world.  They tend to hang around the same haunts, following a predictable pattern.  You can farm them fairly reliably once you get to know where they can be found.  Each one drops a special unique item, mostly consumables.  The usefulness depends on the boss and your stat build. Speaking of which..."

Reaching up to the air to summon his UI, Freyd called two thin and delicate looking vials of reddish gold liquid, each sealed with wax. The contents seem to be carbonated and when opened there is a satisfying hiss and the aroma of cherry soda.  He drank one immediately and handed the other to his companion.

"Never underestimate the value of consumables.  I've seen people learn that the hard way. These will improve our odds a bit.  Don't mind the appearance.  My friend made it.  She had a rather... bubbly personality."

"Unique Item? Sounds interesting. I can't believe I haven't killed one or two field bosses while I've been running around everywhere...I haven't even seen one yet."

Field bosses being unknown to Euled made this encounter sound a little bit exciting. It was like going into something unknown as a kid. The unique Item was like the cherry on top, not like he'd squabble with Freyd over it. Whoever got the last hit would get it, that's that. Unless the item was useless for either party or something. Euled glanced over to him as he opened his menu to summon 2 potions, crystalising into his hands from nothing. It looked like someone filled them with soda, though the soda was red tinged with a few hints of amber-yellow. He took the vial Freyd hadn't drank from, popping off the wax.

"Doesn't look too bad...Bottoms up."

Gulping it down, Euled immediately felt a little bit more stronger after using it. He had never really used consumables till now, but this made him rethink it a little.

Whoa...Consumables are cool.

"There's typically only one per floor.  Yeff is... well, he's a little bit special.  Let's put it that way. Everyone thinks he was put here as a bit of a meme."  Freyd shrugged, having no way to confirm the suspicions.

Their journey through the woods was brief and uninterrupted, through a few prowling shadows seemed to haunt their passage, along with the occasional pair of red eyes peering at them through the darkness.  Fred walked more carefully here, slowing his pace and scanning their surroundings to pick the best path forward.

"Fae like their traps, as do dark elves."  The message was whispered, in case of eavesdroppers or ambush.  "Best to keep light on your feet and step where I step."

It wasn't long before they came upon a clearing, the sound of crazed cackling and foul words from a twisted elven tongue accosting their ears.  Signaling his intent to go right, Freyd bade Euled remain hidden there until he could strike.  A fleeting shadow spilling from beneath his jacket streaked silently in the opposite direction.  Moments later, the Whisper could be seen skulking up their target.  Yeff was hunched over some sort of animal, recently killed, its digital flesh still hovering on the edge of decomposition.

The mob's head lifted as brush rustled only to find a tiny black mongoose made entirely of shadows come streaking towards him.  It dodges his parry with ease, bounding off his chest and right into Freyd, who promptly slammed him with a haymaker punch that left him staggered and discombobulated.

"NOW!"

"O...kay?"

The description of Yeff as a "meme" made Euled's expectations confuddled. Maybe he just looked really stupid or something. Still, appearances could be deceiving; it was best to be cautious about these kind of things, after all. They passed through shrubbery, the nature of the place making Euled's hair stand on its ends. He felt like there were a million pairs of eyes watching him, and he swore he could see shadows leaping around from the corners of his eye. Freyd seemed cautious, and Euled followed his actions.

"...I'll be careful."

Eventually, the path of the twisting trees cleared. They were lead to a little clearing near the helm of the forest. Not one moment later, a cackling sound along with curses came barreling into his ears. He covered them instinctively, opening his eyes to see Freyd signalling his attack path. In a moment like this, it would be best for him to wait for Freyd to land an attack first, is what Euled thought. The giant monster was seen hunched over a random mob, exploding into game data shortly after. Freyd lunged into battle, evading his attack and hitting him with a devastating punch that put him out of commission for the smallest of moments. Following Freyd's words, he ran out of cover and leapt up, jumping towards the monster and slicing into its abdomen deeply. It wasn't as powerful as Freyd's punch, but it still depleted his HP bar by a sizable amount. The cut made Yeff even more discombobulated.

No dark elf warrior should ever be underestimated, even if he was made to seem ridiculous.  Freyd had learned that lesson the hard way, and on more than one occasion. No staggered enemy was incapacitated. And so he knew better than to approach Yeff without due wariness and guard.  The feral elf, driven mad in his exile, moved swiftly and suddenly, a wild swing the went wide while Freyd contorted his torso to avoid the blade.  A sweep took Yeff off his feet once more, combined with a crippling joint lock at the elbow that forced him to release his weapon, nearly wrenching the arm off in the process.  Knowing he had to get clear, Freyd rolled and spun, punching the ground with enough force to send himself airborne and regain his footing and stance.

No words were necessary.  This wasn't actually anime, even when it looked so much the same.  And he didn't much feel like banter in the middle of this duel anyway.  This foe was more dangerous than the minotaurs, by far.

Corrections:

Added two hate towards euled on Yeff's stat bar, from critical hit.
Euled's damage updated.  Should be: 8*15=120-30=90.  HP total fixed. Think you forgot to add the bonus damage from the crit.

After Euled was done with his attack, he looked at Yeff, who seemed in like he was in a berserk state. His movements were raggedy and he felt more rough and jaggedy. It was clear that this boss was on another level to the two minotaurs they had faced earlier. The elf targeted Freyd first, trying to slash his torso open.

"Watch ou-!"

His warning was unneeded, as Freyd dodged the attack easily. Sweeping the monster off of its legs, he put Yeff in a painful hold, smashing him airborne from a shockwave in the ground for good measure. His HP dropped dangerously low, only trickles left. With an opportunity like this, it was clear Euled had to seize it.

"I'll finish him!"

Running in, he got to a medium distance away before bringing his blade to his shoulder with one hand, bracing it for an attack. The sword turned red as Euled shot forth, executing a sword skill. He pierced through the elf's flesh with a fast thrust, stabbing through him and swiping away the last bits of HP he had. Finally, the monster was defeated, exploding into a heap of pixel shards that would fall to the ground and dissipate into nothing.

"Huff...huff..I guess..we won."

"Yeah," Freyd agreed, smiling and recovering his breath.  "Nice moves, Euled.  Glad you had my back."  Relaxing, but only a little, the Whisper remained keenly aware of how close they were to the lands of the Unseelie Court and the fae who reigned in that domain.  To call them fickle would be like comparing a blue whale to a guppy.  Moody wasn't much better.  He'd had no problems with them in the past, but their unique rules were not standard player fare and could be easily run afoul.

"Good work today, but we shouldn't linger here.  These woods have ears, claws, teeth even, and you don't want to know about the critters the crawl around beneath their boughs.  Let's make our way back to Flora.  We can portal out and go our separate ways from there. I have some things that need checking on, but feel free to give me a should again, if you have need."

Offering a nod of thanks and approval, Freyd extended Euled a well-deserved friend invite, hoping that they would meet again.
