Background

Spoiler

Michael grew up in a low-income Asian household, both his mom and dad working most of the time to barely cover the household expenses. Due to this Michael was forced to study hard to earn a scholarship to go to school, despite all that he didn't mind the strict lifestyle imposed on him by his parents situation. Instead as he entered his teen years he figured out a way to get money for himself since his parents couldn't give him a proper allowance, using some skill, luck, and a whole lot of cheating he would gamble whatever he could until he had a sizable amount of cash. This didn't come without it's struggles of course, there were times when he would scam the wrong people and get into multiple fights where he would have to run after all he was a gambler and con artist not a murderer. (Ages 1-15)

Eventually his lifestyle caught up with him, after managing to win a jackpot in a underground gambling den he found himself being chased by a whole gang. He ran through the streets as he could hear the noises of the gang members closing in, his heart beat faster panic and adrenaline filling him. He opened his bag and pulled out a gun he had bought to scare tough guys away, holding it in his shaking hand he unlocked the safety. As one of the members turned the corner he pointed his gun at the man, as the man charged at him with a knife he pulled the trigger the noise of the shot filling the street. The gang members scattered as Michael's hands shook dropping the gun, he vomited at the sight of the man bleeding out on the ground. His mind was filled with noise unable to cope with having killed a person, eventually snapping out of it as he could hear sirens in the distance. Not knowing what to do he clutched the bag of cash and ran home stashing the money and leaving a note for his parents, knowing that he would have to lay low for a long time until the heat died down. He scrounged up some of his left over cash and took a bus as far as it would go, the last view of his hometown was filled with the blue and red of police cars headed to the scene of his regret as he clutched a family photo. (Age 16)

After travelling for a whole day he wound up in the countryside at a dilapidated house that his uncle owned that was mentioned in passing, settling in he stared at the view outside as he did his best to push the memory of the man deep in his mind. Years go by as he manages to suppress his memories. Spending his days fishing and talking with the other locals, making money by visiting a nearby net-café to earn some money doing what he does best. Until the fateful day when he won a game of poker against some rich kid who had bet his whole college fund, desperately his opponent wagered a copy of some game called Sword Art Online. Not really caring Michael accepted, he did read on some posts about a soon to be released game by the same name so he couldn't see where this could hurt. After a drawn out game that he won, his opponent wired him the money and sent the details about shipping the game to him. With some of his earnings he purchased a VR set and researched the game, excited to see how realistic it all looked. When the day came he was ecstatic to open the box to see an actual copy of the game, hurriedly he setup everything and joined the game looking to get there and not fall behind as the game had just released. (Ages 16-21)

As soon as he logged on his put in his favorite gambling handle 'Spade'. Spawning in he was astounded at how real everything felt, his first instinct being to try out the profession system. While everyone was leveling and trying to reach the first boss he was figuring out where he could get himself a fishing rod. In the middle of talking to an NPC everyone was summoned to that fateful event. He doesn't remember much of it, all he remembers is his stomach churning when it was announced that people can die in this game.

Virtues

Spoiler

Adaptable

Having had a tough life Michael got used to rough living conditions and learned some life skills to help himself out. This made him somewhat capable of surviving in unexpected situations or environments. He's able to keep calm and figure out what he needs the most whenever he's stressed out.

Logical

Having studied as a scholarship student up until running away Michael displayed a great mental aptitude. When this is paired with his gambling habits he learned to see this world in terms of numbers and chances. When making decisions he prioritizes whatever path he sees that has the best ratio of reward to success, what others would call risky he sees as completely possible.

Loyal

Growing up watching his mom and dad wear themselves down working for their family had an impact on Michael as he grew. Learning on the streets that your family are the only people that you can fall back on when shit hits the fan. He idolizes that ideology, he hopes to one day find people that he'd be willing to do anything for and people that would do the same for him.

Flaws

Spoiler

Sly

Part of the reason why Michael is so successful as a gambler and con artist is also why he never managed to make any proper friends. He's always looking for loopholes and ways to make the most profit, even if that means having to short the other party. This attitude of his nets him huge gains but always ends up pissing someone off.

Cowardly

Michael has always had a moral code even when he would scam people. After experiencing his first death it left a scar on him, making him terrified of taking a life of another. He prefers to resolve violence with either running away or incapacitating, even to the point where it could endanger other people.

Weak

Michael never cared much to build muscles nor try to learn any sort of self-defense martial arts. The result of all that is that he has no proper combat experience whatsoever, without a shred of muscle memory. This makes him incredibly weak in a confrontation, the usual scenario being that he'll either run away or use tactics and range to win.
