"It's like riding a bike Mac, I'm sure once we finish our gauntlet here that you will be battle ready." the samurai gave him a thumbs up as they made their way to their next destination. Once the group arrived Kat was in awe of the arena they had to enter. It reminded her of the pictures she had seen of the roman coliseum when she was in school. At that thought everything clicked, just as the portcullis dropped behind them.

"Ah, we're trapped in here until we kill it." she let out a sigh and reached for her sword. Her hand hesitated slightly but she gripped the hilt as their next opponent rushed out of it's enclosure, Mac meeting it head on with his interesting fighting style. Katoka took a deep breath and drew her blade, she could not hesitate like this in the raid let alone here. Charging her sword art she rushed in as she rhino turned it's attention to the rest of them.

Kat struck the beast and felt her sword catch on it's hide, nearly pulling it from her hands. Bracing the bald against one hand she dug her feet into the ground and let the mob's momentum drag the cut along it's side until he had a large gash from front to back. As he continued his charge past the small blonde stumbled as she attempted to regain her footing, "Holy hell, that thing is insane." she could feel her breathing begin to quicken, the excitement of battle running through her. She was more prepared for it this time so it wasn't as startling.

She was more certain of it this time. Her new sword was making her crave combat, and it needed her to feed it's insatiable hunger.

she'd stayed quiet during their walk. there wasn't a need to chat on an errand, and she'd rather be taking notes on the targets she'd fought than to delve deep into someone's psyche; she wasn't a therapist, she couldn't fix them. on the twenty-fourth, lamenting the loss of the walkable bridges, night too decided she couldn't fix the terrain either.

and, to be fair, the floor couldn't fix her own issues all the same.

"We’re just 4 adventurers who wants to challenge Piasuhon,” said mac.

the colosseum was a local landmark she'd walked past a couple of times, not really examining its use too closely. between the thrill of battle and the experience of watching it, night would've balked at anyone else commenting the latter was more fun than playing the game. so she thought not much of it as she strolled in behind mac, eyes avoidant of the crowds gathered on the stands. even if they weren't real players, the system remembered.

so her body, too, remembered when the roar of the beast announced its arrival to the field, charging immediately towards them. her hands searched for the wooden sword that wasn't there, feet rooted. night should've been ready for it. why wasn't she?

Mac's combat flair was certainly drawing the beast's interest.  Enough so that Freyd wondered whether a howl would manage any more than snatch it back momentarily. Combined with NIGHT's distracted state, another tactic seemed wiser.  Slipping between shadows, the Whisper reappeared right behind Katoka, catching the raging rhino's eye with a pointed strike, discombobulating the beast without managing much damage.  Piasuhon veered and rolled over itself, slamming into the arena wall with a crashing thud that sprayed blood-soaked sand all over the crowd.  Judging by the cheers, this was deemed a popular outcome.  

"Mac.  Kat.  Keep at it.  Dunno what's up with NIGHT, but we need to buy her some time to get back in the game.  I'll keep it distracted as best I can in the meantime.  Just stop being quite so lovable!"  A mad grin appeared beneath the cowl, knowing there was no way either could oblige.  It was simply beyond their power.

Something wasn’t going well, something was … missing. Macradon looked around the battlefield, and it seemed like NIGHT was … distracted, somehow. The knight would shrug it off for now, as he didn’t have time to handle it. Macradon was at the top of the priority for this rhino thingy, and while airborne, he wasn’t at the best position to dodge out of harm's way. He would keep moving, trying to keep up with the rhino’s ferocious charge. Its stampede would kick up a storm of dust. While still trying to home in on the rhino, Macradon would not be able to keep up, his wasted energy from jumping around all the time didn’t seem like it was a good choice for such an agile enemy.

“Maybe I should consider when I should stay in stance or not …” he pondered and contemplated whether or not he should continue his pursuit. The thrill of the fight would get the best of him, and he continued his bunny hopping after that weirdly agile rhino.

"Right, keep it distracted." Kat replied.

If only she was able to pull the things attention long enough for it to matter. Katoka cut across the arena in an attempt to reorient her self in the creatures path. She looked over towards NIGHT, hoping that she was alright. The samurai was certain that her party member was one of the few people that was close to Freyd's strength, at least from what she had heard from others. Whatever had thrown her off her game was probably worth being worried about in some shape or form.

While lost in thought Kat managed to loose sight of the rhino in the cloud of dust it had been kicking up. She charged and released her sword art in the general direction of the dirt that was being kicked up, but ended up emerging from the other side without making contact. Cursing under her breath she turned around to see Mac hopping about the battlefield like a rabbit. One person jumping about, one frozen in the middle of combat, and herself not able to land a hit. "What did I get myself into."

at the sudden strike, a thought passed her: it would be easier if she had her own blade back. what was it called, again? doombringer?

when the oath's name echoed in her mind, she drew it forward, feeling its weight shift in her hands as she brought it ahead of her. night breathed, unwilling, watching the rhino stumble and struggle to get up. there was the vivaciousness of the crowd, too -- one that wasn't that wasn't there before, a reminder to keep her head in the game.

she did so, because her seniors wouldn't be proud of her otherwise. for her team, for their championship, she rushed past the aerial ace and slipped into position where kat had once taken off towards the target. night measured the distance -- a little too far and off to the side. indirect. she knew she could do better.

three steps forward, and she knew she'd hit her mark with a lunge and an uppercut. then, almost to get ready for piasuhorn's retaliation, she kicked off the arena wall nearby to send herself flying backwards, head still in a mess.

Grimacing in the face of the chaos unfolding around the arena floor, Freyd considered reaching through shadow to try and hold Piasuhon's attention, but the beast was preternaturally fickle.  Tanking this thing was a shot in the dark - har, har - and they could ill afford to get less organized than they already were.  

"Best I can manage is to keep him momentarily disoriented, but he recovers fast!"  Charging the rhino unexpectedly, Freyd bought them a moment's reprieve by body slamming the thing, Persi slipping out from beneath his clothes to lend her considerable weight.

"That's not gonna work again for a bit.  Let's hope our luck improves.  Think it would help if I changed my outfit colour to red, or something?  It's not exactly a raging bull.  What do rhino's hate?  Purple?!"

Maybe jabbering alone would irritate the mob to keep its attention.  He was kind of out of options, otherwise, other than to hope that they could just manage to beat it down, hard. Tumbling like a madman, he just hoped it would leave the others unharmed.

He shrugged off his miss and steeled himself “That ain’t good enough, soldier!” he thought to himself in the voice of Mack, his old superior, now MIA. They weren’t the best of friends, but he had a lot of respect for the man, his military might and is aura of order on the battlefield. If Macradon was to ever be able to do anything even slightly like that, he would need to have a better understanding of the battlefield, its surroundings, his teammates and his opponent. It wasn’t good enough to just jump around and try to land some hard strikes. He had to make every movement count, not to waste anything.

Macradon would laugh at Freyd’s comment “I don’t really know, red doesn’t seem to distract it enough, maybe it just wants to hit whatever it’s fighting regardless of colours. I can respect that.” he said with a slight chortle to his voice “You’re doing a good job. It might not stand still for long, but it’s better than it rampaging!” he said and looked at the raging rhino.

He took in a deep breath and followed his party into the fight again. A bombardment of attacks would strike the rhino as both Freyd and NIGHT landed hits to keep it on its tippy rhino toes. The knight would take advantage of this opening and swoop in. His blade gleamed with bright orange as his sword art would take off and his body leapt into the air. He would adjust his stance and let out his sword art and cleave through the rhino “Take this!” he cried out.

His sword would emit a bright holy light as it made contact, cutting through the rhino’s hide like butter. The thick skin of the beast was no match for the Blade of the Bloody Dictator “That’s a stupid name … gotta find something else for it at some point …” Macradon thought to himself and he looked at his sword while recovering from his aerial manoeuvring. This heavy hit did come with a drawback … the rhino was very much concentrated on him, and while bouncing around, that wasn’t a great position to be in.

At first, Katoka was concerned she wouldn't be able to keep up with the veteran frontliners she was working with today. Now an overwhelming sense of relief washed over her as she realized they were a lot like her. She had envisioned them obliterating the bosses they had come to fight today, but even Freyd had taken a back seat in damage. Then again whenever he wracked up numbers he also used a literal buffet of consumables to get that high.

A smile pilled at Kat's lips, her anxieties about being perfect at the top were slowly beginning to wash away. Her attention snapped back once again to her opponent as the massive creature barreled its way through the stadium, the crowd behind her roaring with each clash. As she watched Mac engaging with the rhino the samurai approached from it's flank, her sword glowing with light just before she struck it's thick hide. The health bar dipped down into the triple digits finally and Kat sighed. They only seemed to be chipping away at it's health. This fight was proving to be much longer than the previous.

"This guy really doesn't want to go down does he?" she called to her party members.

still absentminded, and still so loud.

it definitely wasn't helping either herself or the party that they were in a colosseum, filled with a rowdy crowd that wouldn't shut up about cheering them on as fighters. and neither was it accommodating to hone in on her allies' words, trying to glean what little they had to say on co-operation when most liked to dedicate it to banter.

night breathed, dishonest, squaring her shoulders once the trio had gotten their attempts in, and dove round the rhino with a sweeping crescent, sliding against dust as she skid it by. she watched the enemy bound around, trying to get a good view on the target with the most enmity at the moment, so she stayed clear of the cursors in green with sideway glances, trying to control the energies within her.

emptying her mind, and filling it with noise was the worst thing she felt like she could do, and yet it was better than doing nothing at all.

Changing tactics, hoping to keep their enemy on whatever passed for a rhino's toes, Freyd aimed his strikes at the joints between armor plates in its thick but tiny legs.  A swift kick to the back of its left foremost limb cause its knee to buckle mid-charge.  Just to add insult to injury, Freyd boosted the strike's impact with the very same item they'd come to gather from the critter in the first place.  Toxic frost flash froze the injury, further damaging the surrounding plating, but Piasuhon's sheer mass produced too much momentum to be stopped on a dime.  At least he'd bunged up its steering, driving it head first into the coliseum wall in a giant burst of dust and crunching masonry, shards of which sprayed halfway across the arena floor.

"Yeah.  Doesn't go down easy at all."  Katoka had it right.  "But, we've made it so mad it can't even see straight anymore.  It's slowing down.  Why not see if you can't pincer it, including Mac from above.  We might finally have it on the ropes."

Dark clothing covered in dust, sand and other unmentionables left in wake of previous coliseum combatants, Freyd no longer looked the slightest bit his usual part, choosing to stand still, ready to beckon the beast back his way rather than dodging about the field like some sort of spider-monkey.

The raging rhino rampaged throughout the arena, kicking up giant clouds of sand as it stampeded after the players, trying to gore them with its horns. Macradon watched as his party went ham, getting the rhino closer and closer to its demise. With every hit, they got closer and closer to killing, and with a quick rotation of attacks, the party got it down into the red. A really good hit would be enough to take it out. Macradon rushed up towards the rhino between his party mates and leaped into the air. With a quick spin, Macradon dashed into Piasuhon with a quick cleave with his sword, cleaning it closer to its demise, but just barely. He looked up at his party while trying to land safely from his attack and exclaimed “It’s deep into the red, time for the finishing blow!” as his voice boomed through the arena, nearly deafened by the arena’s spectators’ cheering and heckling.

Seeing the creature's health bar drop into the red sent a ripple of gooseflesh across Katoka's body. The primal urge to hunt and kill rose up inside her and if she hadn't been paying attention she might have given in to it. Instead she watched the beast as it stomped and charged about the stadium in a near rage at it's declining health. The samurai began to walk slowing in line with her target, her eyes locked on with intense focus. That walk turned into a jog, her path now parallel to the rhino as her sword began to glow a deep red.

Piasuhon took notice of the player attempting to keep up with him as he raged. Turning his attention to her he charged once more, building up his momentum to plow her over. Kat also began to run, her sword leaving a tron like trail of light behind her speeding form accelerated toward the boss. Just before the two impacted the samurai seemed to blink out of existence for a second before appearing several feet behind the bulky monster. Piasuhon slid to a stop while kicking up a cloud of dust, his breath heavy as he stood still for the first time since they entered the arena.

With a final huff the rhino fell to the ground with a loud thud before shattering into thousands of tiny fractals. Katoka returned her sword to it's place at her side and she felt the hunger and need to hunt begin to recede inside her. "This sword is going to be a pain in my ass isn't it?"

another roar of the crowd erupted as the rhino stumbled and dropped. another wince from night, then, as she felt her breath quicken. in the same direction they came, she started to walk out, past the entrance gate but staying put in the shade of the corridor leading out. there, in the dark, away from eyes, she thought she could finally find peace.

she watched the others take in the spectacle of the limelight, her back against the wall. and when they were ready to shuffle out, night intercepted them. "so... are we waiting it out? or are we headed back down?" though the crumbs of piasuhorn had long left them behind, night still thought she caught them in the air, captured in memory. "if it isn't necessary to stay here longer, i'd rather leave. not that fighting that thing was any more painful than it should be, but i figure--"

from her inventory, she drew out the horn collected upon the rhino's defeat.

"-- there are better other places to be."

"You asked for it," Freyd replied nonchalantly to Katoka's complaint.  "And remember the source.  It's probably going to poke and prod you relentlessly, if I did my job right."  His wry grin left enough doubt that he might have attempted to infuse the blade with his own brand of mischief, planting the possibility like a seed that might someday bear fruit.  Speaking of which, flowers and vegetables alike rained down upon them from the stands, the type varying in accordance with the bets of the crowd.  Making his way to the exit, Freyd had no more love for an audience than NIGHT, and sought her out for a private moment before the others caught up.

"Are you alright?  You seemed staggered there, for a moment, and quick to seek out the shadows."  His voice surprisingly considerate, he seemed genuine and sincere.  The Whisper had long admired the swordswoman, her aid having set him on his own path at the start of his Aincradian journey.  He only knew her to be private by nature and withdrawn, yet the image of her running from the scene of the Valentine's tournament had been indelibly burnt into his memory.  However distant she might appear, the woman had feelings as vulnerable as anyone else.  And though she had no reason to trust him, such distances were only bridged if one bank reached out to the other.

"We can head up to twenty-five, if everyone is willing.  That would give the troll more time to respawn.  And I've fought the weaver before.  We should prevail quickly with this group."  His words were all business, for the sake of any unsolicited ears, but azure eyes conveyed his concern and an offer to speak later, should she wish it.  Anything more, he expected, would likely be rebuffed.

"I guess we'll see what the future holds huh?" she responded, elbowing Freyd in the ribs. She knew that this was going to be her new burden to bare, but it didn't make her any less warry of the situation. At the sight of inbound produce projectiles Katoka took the hint and vacated the arena. Following her party members she quickened her pace so that she could join the conversation.

"Everything alright?" she asked NIGHT, "Freyd is right, it looked like something had you freeze up."

Kat didn't know the swordswoman well, hell she could count on one hand the number of interactions they had had, but it didn't stop her from being concerned. It wasn't anything life threatening right now considering none of them took a hit during the fight, but if something was wrong that could affect the battles to come then herself, Mac, and Freyd could be on guard just in case.

Macradon would take a few moments to catch his breath from his acrobatic antics. They weren’t too bad, but they definitely weren’t his finest work either. He sighed at his subpar performance and looked over at his party. It sure was a rag tag group with little synergy as to party composition, but that wasn’t important, what was important was their teamwork, and despite their flaws, they got the job done. Could it be more streamlined? Sure. Did it need to? Nope.

The knight would stretch after the fighting and wandered closer to the others “I’m fine with heading up. When we get that thing down, we’re bound to be ready for the Ugzeke respawn. Two bosses down, two to go, let’s do this!” he said and pumped a fist into the air while skipping out of the arena filled with the crowd’s ecstatic cheers.

Two of his party mates began inquiring about NIGHT’s sudden incapacitation in the fight, maybe something was wrong, maybe not, could’ve been a sudden fluke out of nowhere. He felt like he needed to support his fellow greatsword wielder as well, but with the two inquisitors already at her side, the knight didn’t feel like piling on.

“Let’s go!” he proclaimed and marched towards the teleportation plaza, and then up to the 25th.

the last thing she needed was attention, so she brushed it off. horn sent back to her inventory, night simply shook her head. "nothing important." and she meant every word. the moment mac had started off towards the plaza, she followed, in pursuit.

the twenty-fifth was as dreary as always. white walls and dim lighting; the floor was meant to be focused on ambushes from enemies that caught players off-guard. the whole thing was a maze, a trap – night sought out the chalk necessary to guide their way back home, and handed out a piece to everyone else present.

the maze weaver wasn't a boss she'd fought before. but given the habitat it called home, it likely meant that they were due for a ferocious foe. she'd had her weapon in her hand before they could even start their venture into the labyrinth. night looked to freyd and gestured over to the entrance. "given tracking, it'll be your lead."

[Group moves to floor 25]

NIGHT brushed off concerns, again.  She always did.  Even when she was in a group, it's like she wasn't even there.  Appropriate, given her frequent use of stealth, but also frustrating.  Shaking his head and deeming it pointless to pursue any further, he set about navigating their journey to Lite'tara.  Pausing a moment to gaze upon the massive status of Orgoth, he patted its foremost hoof as they passed.  Good memories.  Mostly bad, actually, but now wasn't really time for nostalgia.

"Everyone grab a piece of chalk, unless you want to end up lost in the labyrinth.  We're running a bit too short on time for that, considering I still need to go host the raid meeting."  Leading them through the gates and into the maze, Freyd started placing marks at seemingly random locations.  

"It won't be hard to find, but it's fast and tends to ignore aggro, so we might as well all go ham on it.  With the hate we all generate, my build won't keep hold on its attention anyway."  Any further thoughts were left unsaid.

It didn't take long to find the creature: a mass, nasty-looking arachnid that had filled a dead end corridor with sticky webbing.

"Mind yourself, Mac.  Might be tough to go airborne in here."

Freyd stumbled across one of the webs as he spoke, distracted by conversation.  By sheer good fortune, this one strand seemed to be the vicious monster's Achilles heel, triggering a catastrophic resonance that spread across its entire web network and miraculously brought the whole thing crashing down before the fight had even begun.

"Uh... yeah.  I...uh... meant to do that."

The 25th floor, last time Macradon was here was of necessity more than anything, he remembered every last bit that happened at that raid … it was a different time, a lot has changed since, bosses became more intricate, floors got more fleshed out, it truly was a huge milestone for the Aincrad conquest. The knight reminisced his time travelling the maze, the penguins he had doodled along the way to the labyrinth boss and eventually what became the floor boss arena. It was a gruelling battle, the hardest Macradon had fought, the hardest Macradon had endured, it was like a personal jab at everything he did, everything he strived for, it was a continuous barrage from Shadow, he could only shudder at the chains that once bound him.

That was the past, he couldn’t dwell on them for long before he had to lock in and keep his game face on. “Chalk, yes, good to draw penguins with.” he noted and began doodling the second they would enter the ever changing labyrinth. It didn’t take long for the adventurers to find the web-infested arena. “Aye … I see that …” he said hesitantly as his airbourne space was being occupied. He snickered at the giant arachnid that made its presence very well shown and Freyd was quick to analyse and find the web’s weak spot. With a defiant strike towards the arachnid matriarch, Freyd easily sent the boss down onto the ground from its web with grace.

“You’re quick to find weak spots! I wouldn’t ever have found that! If anything, I’d probably have stumbled into it while jumping around and only got lucky with it.” he said and got into position, running around the battlefield to open up the field for the rest while setting up his own assault. With a quick rush, Macradon flew into the air and spun, cobwebs would tangle onto his body, making it very difficult to place himself in a proper stance to throw off any sword arts, but he managed. He crashed down onto the prone arachnid and just barely got a strike in, its large legs blocking some of the incoming hit as Macradon got a few glances before getting a lesser cut into the beast. “Yeahp! It’s difficult to jump around in here! And those legs are really getting in the way!” he exclaimed, hoping his experience would help the others succeed and get better hits in than him.
