Another Floor Boss, another round of farming. Koga couldn't exactly say it was something he was ecstatic about, farming for the consumables needed always became a chore, but it would be good for the swordsman to get out and stretch his legs again for a bit. Shake off the rust before they all went off to face what might very well be their deaths.

Such was life in Aincrad.

Koga approached the whole affair with his usual air of nonchalance, and would continue to do so until that red day dawned. In the meantime though, he and a few other players gathered on Floor Nineteen. Of the other three joining him today, Koga was acquainted with two, Mina and Jomei. The other, Oscar, was a known quantity at least. Seasoned veterans all of them, which hopefully meant this would be over quickly.

One by one, they each appeared, and Koga greeted them as they arrived, the boss looming over them placidly, unaware of its impending doom. "Alright, everyone set to go?" Koga asked once everyone had gathered and gone through the whole 'good to see you' ordeal.

It was that time again. A Labyrinth was cleared and the way to the next Floor Boss lay open. It was time for Oscar to take a break from his usual extracurriculars and get back to work. The Frontlines seemed more focused since he'd last seen them. More organized. Farming groups had appeared and old associates reached out to one another, searching high and low for aid in the endeavor. Perhaps Oscar had judged them too harshly after that debacle with Gabrandr. Regardless, he was all too happy to assist where he was able. He kept to himself in between Raids, but even he was aware of the sudden tank shortage the game had. It was to be expected. For all those on the Frontlines, the tanks were even further ahead. He wondered how many Aincrad had claimed so far.

Oscar arrived and joined his designated group. He strode up to the Party Leader slowly, both hands in his pockets as he looked up at the boss. The requisite consumables had been used long before he even got here. The giant of a man took one hand out of his pockets and gave a small wave. In the same motion, he plucked the shades from his face and folded them up neatly with gloved hands. "Gonna be busy today," he observed. Oscar dropped his glasses into his breast pocket, leaving one of the arms hooked over the top. "Who else we got coming?"

Violet was honestly in good spirits today, a cheeky smile on her face as she prepared a set of consumables for the little escapade that they were planning. Several clearers had decided to gather into groups to go and tackle a few field bosses pre-raid. There was a raid in progress already for Uzgeke, piasuhon, and the Maze weaver. Meanwhile, their group was supposed to be handling The Ancient, a field boss that was rather annoying. 'Guess I get a round two with it, then...' Violet thought, frowning as she folded Lament into a more maneuverable form. It seemed that the only people she would be raiding with were Koga, Oscar, and Jomei, all three of them being frequent with their attendance of raids.

She'd picked up a few ranks in searching to get this moving faster than they normally would, plus some tents and extra potions. She arrived to the meeting spot a few minute later than she'd wanted, both Koga and Oscar already having arrived before her. "Yo, I've got plenty of goodies to share if you guys forgot anything!" she called out, holding up the two tent bags as she waved. "We won't have to do too many runs of this since its a reusable item, but it's better to be prepared in case someone else joins the upper levels before we get the raid team moving."

The message was clear, the raid team was putting together a united force to make sure they were well prepared for whatever awaited them behind the boss room doors. The labyrinth boss had been defeated, leaving them with just a short amount of time before they would be put to the test once again with the hopes of just one step closer to freedom. The slow pace of things once made that hope seem like nothing more than a dream, however this seemed like a push in the right. Picking up the pace and showing they were serious in making headway to the floors of Aincrad to come.

So it was a no brainer that, for once, Jomei heed the call and join this party of gatherers.

"Huh, charming and welcoming as ever." the ginger said sarcastically, regarding the dark, dead plains that made up most of Floor Nineteen. As he turned to face the others, his lips curled into a smile, looking to each of the three with a soft nod in greeting. Oscar, Mina, and Koga, all players he had made some sort of acquaintance with over the time he spent here. "Good to see you all. We should have no problem on this hunt with a group like this."

Someone waved in Koga's direction, drawing the raven-haired man's eyes. The swordsman recognized the much taller fellow from raids, and though they had yet to be acquainted, Koga waved back. There was only one person it could be. "Oscar, I presume?" Koga guessed, seeing as that would've been the only team member he didn't actually know. "I'm Koga," he introduced himself, offering a hand in greeting. "Mina and Jomei are our other two. Full stack of Frontliners so this should go along pretty quickly," he'd then answer, before one of the aforementioned raiders made their appearance.

Although...she looked markedly different than the last time Koga had seen her. "Mina," he greeted her with a nod. The reservation was not out of a distaste for the woman, but rather the fact he was still trying to wrap his mind around the general differences in her appearance. No matter, she brought food.

Koga eagerly scarfed the dessert down, and chased it with both potions (which did not taste as good), before grinning at her like the food-motivated idiot that he was. "Thanks, I hadn't even thought of that to be honest."

Last but not least, Jomei arrived, with his usual mirthful grin. Koga sketched out a deep, exaggerated bow in response. "For you, always," he said with a crooked grin.

"Seeing as we're all here now," Koga said, after ensuring everyone had gotten the buffs they needed. "Time to hit the big guy." It was Koga who opened up their attack, leaping impossibly high into the air to strike the titan on the head with his still sheathed sword, before falling to the ground and breaking his fall with another sword art.

Violet laughed as Koga's demeanor changed almost instantly at the offering of food and buffs that she'd given him, a crooked grin crossing her face. "Guess it's pretty easy to win you over, huh?" she said dryly, folding her arms over her chest. "Maybe I should try that with more people, seems like a pretty sound strategy, no? Making friends while I'm making food~" She gave a salute to Jomei and Oscar, her grin widening slightly. "Well, I'm looking forward to working with the three of you as well! I don't think I've partied with any of you guys yet, so this should be pretty interesting!"

As the ancient rose up from the ground, looming above them Violet gave the boss mob a bow. "Hello again, my dear!" she chirped, before turning on her heel to fling Lament up at it, the dark edges of the fan igniting into a trio of flames that bit into its rocky flesh. "This time, I'm back to give you a proper showing! No running away this time, I'm afraid~Lament flew back into her hands with a smack!, the flames being snuffed as the metal ridges collapsed on themselves.

"Alrighty then, Jomei! Go get 'im!" she said cheerfully, looking back at the ginger swordsman.

The ground rumbled as The Ancient stepped forth, rising to its full, towering height as the four players drew its aggression.

"Woah, big boy" Jomei spoke, whistling in awe at the monstrous size of the field boss. Everyone seemed fairly confident in their ability to fell the boss, including Mina who had apparently taken on this beast before. Jomei would have remembered if he fought something this large before, but then again.. there was still so much of Aincrad he hadn't seen - so many quests and monsters that he simply ignored. Now was as good a time as any to experience those dangers first hand.

As Mina and Koga dove in to attack, Jomei interlaced his fingers and stretched over head. "This should be fun." he would say, before ripping his rapier from his side. Pouring the damage potion that Mina had supplied atop the blade like an oil, the metal seemed to spark to life. Time to strike.

Using his speed and acrobatics to close the distance between himself and the giant, the swordsman would sprint up the steep surface that was The Ancient's leg to gain as much height as he possibly could. Ending his rush close to the monster's abdomen, Jomei would draw his rapier back. A brilliant, golden light would engulf the blade, imbuing it with radiant, holy energy. His eyes took on the same color if for just a brief moment as he thrust the blade forth, causing the armor of their enemy the crack just a bit more.

After the travesty of Gabrandr, Oscar was well within his rights to assume that everyone had completely lost their marbles. Two years stuck in virtual reality would do that, but he didn't have any sort of contingency in place in the event the remaining Players decided to hug it out with the enemy hostiles. It remained an ever-present fear. How could one even plan around that?

So, it was heartening to see the fervor with which the strangers engaged the boss before them.

He'd met these people in passing. Barely acquaintances, if he were being honest. He'd not had the time or the energy to mingle with the Frontlines as perhaps he should have. Oscar had been otherwise engaged with a blood feud. Even so, he would play is role. It seemed that the one thing that the Frontliners weren't hurting for was damage. But tanks and healers came and went with the tides. Thankfully, Oscar was pretty stubbornly the former.

As his allies assaulted the boss, Oscar strode calmly forward. Both hands in his pockets, he regarded the boss with the same bored apathy he gave most enemies in his digital hell. His lips parted and he took a breath before speaking.

"Come here," he said flatly. A command, not a statement nor request.

The System did the rest of the work. Added reverb, amplified his voice. <<Focused Howl>> activated and a pulse of red radiated from Oscar's core. It radiated out from Oscar's feet like a wave, casting off in all directions and washed over the boss. The creature's model was left with that crimson vestige. An outline of red and bloodshot eyes as it whirled around to assess its new target. Oscar merely watched calmly as the creature reared back and fired off a crushing blow in Oscar's direction. He did not move, nor flinch. His face remained deadpan as the boss drove its fist into the ground a foot clear of Oscar's position. With a sigh, he looked at the appendage as it ripped itself from the ground and then to the boss it was attached to. When had things become so dull, exactly?

Mina grinned at Koga, crossing her arms as she made a comment about his sudden change in demeanor. "Well, you know what they say, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach," Koga replied with a grin of his own. "Don't think that's limited to just men though." Food was the way to anyone's heart, if you asked Koga.

Fast forward all of thirty seconds, and Jomei's weapon glowed like a beacon as he tore it from the giant's body, as Mina's attack engulfed the big bastard in both frost and ice. Despite their flurry of attacks burning through the boss' HP bar, taking it almost down to half in only a few moments, its attention was still in the wrong place as Oscar drew its attention with a mighty roar.

"Wow...I really should hunt with a party more often," Koga said, stretching and looking up at the health bar above the boss' head.

Suddenly all the food Koga ate before finally hit his stomach, and apparently was processed with lightning speed. Look at that, his stats went up.

"Oh trust me, it definitely isn't." she said cheerfully, hurling Lament at the boss with a smile. "I have a friend that loves to cook a lot, and she'd always tell me that I should learn just so I had an easy way to talk to people. You'd be surprised at the amount of people that just want a well-cooked meal, you know?" she caught Lament easily, before turning to Jomei and Oscar. "Feel free to take your best shots at it, it's almost down finally!" The fight was going far smoother than she had originally thought it would, possibly because their team was better formatted for a fight like this?

no, they were probably just a bit more experienced than the other three. Jomei's practiced swings, Koga's infectious enthusiasm, and Oscar's resolute

Akame had curled around her shoulders, the dark-feathered dragon watching the four players go to town against the giant golem. Violet ran her fingers through her feathers, her smile softening slightly. "Almost over, lil' lady. Then we can head back home, and take a nice nap!"

"You've got that right!" Jomei shouted after Koga as he laid on the finishing touches of his attack. His boots would hit the ground, dust and dirt scattering at the force of his drop. With a few, quick retreating steps back, he would return to his comrades' sides.. a safer place to stand than on his own against a creature as large as this. Though, with the rate they were going, they would be finished with this boss before any of them even took any damage. Hitting tough monsters with friends.. he missed this.

"I've got to meet me someone who can cook a good meal. Been spending too much col going out for my dinners." he would chuckle to himself, "Tried to pick it up myself too many times.. but you can only burn a good roast so many times before you just decide that skill is not for you."

Slowly, he would draw back his rapier as if nocking an arrow, readying to fire. Lining up the point of his blade precisely, he shot forward with the added speed burst from his charge skill. Closing in on his target, the large golem's ankle joint, he hoped to wound it enough to bring it down to a knee and allow Oscar and the rest to follow suit and deal some massive damage. What Jomei was not expecting, however, was to miss his attack. The edge of his rapier barely grazed the stone surface of the Ancient, forcing Jomei's shoulder to slam into the boss. Tumbling onto the earth before their oversized foe, he would stop his motion by sticking his rapier into the dirt. "Dammit.. that wasn't supposed to happen." he would curse through grit teeth.

For the entire duration of this fight, Oscar had not saw fit to draw his blade. The battle was well in hand. The deep-set eyes of the Ancient had not wavered from the targets of its ire, even as Oscar's companions unleashed Hell upon it. Hand still in his pockets, posture still entirely relaxed, Oscar gazed back into the creature's glowing orbs. The two remained motionless for a while, the seconds ticking by in their silent stand-off. The wizened creature's tactics were as they always were, clearly. Slow, resolute. Like the ever-winding roots that split even stone asunder. Why would it deviate now? This was all it knew. Patience and restraint. Because no matter how fiercely the wind might howl, the tree would never break.

But Oscar was not the wind. He was a goddamn firestorm.

He was the first to move. His hand flashed from his pocket, right hand reaching over right shoulder as if to grab something. The air crackled, arced with lightning. The hilt of a sword was made manifest. Oscar took hold, fingers wrapping around the ebon handle of <<Kyuketsuki>>. He drew his blade from the ether as if he were drawing it from a scabbard on his hip. The Ancient moved as well. Green energy began to coalesce around its form, emerald vapor rising from the ground and being drawn into the cracks and crevices around its body. A self-healing move, evident by its appearance.

Oscar broke off into a sprint. Taking off like a bullet, he closed the distance between himself and the massive creature. And, in defiance of the very laws of physics, shot straight up the creature's leg. He dashed with impossible speed, leaving nothing but a blur in his wake until he reached what made for the enemy's collarbone. Here, he kicked off, allowing the final bit of force to propel him to eye level with the creature.

Oscar's attack was threefold. The first came with a sharp kick to the jaw. The concussive force burst out, forcing the Ancient's head to snap sharply in the opposite direction. Whirling around, Oscar delivered a second kick in quick succession, this time to the chin. The creature's head snapped up skyward, giving Oscar access to its neck. As with the vampires of legend, his blade stuck deep in the beast's throat. The rapid blows left the creature dazed and, suddenly, the energy dissipated. He tore his blade from the creature's neck and kicked off of the beast.

As he landed, Oscar left not so much as a skid or a mark on the ground. His weapon disappeared in a flash of light and his hand returned to his pocket. Provided his companions could execute - and he had no doubts that they could - Oscar saw no reason to waste energy keeping himself battle ready.

"Some boss," Oscar scoffed. "You guys can finish this right?"

"Man, we gotta get you some cooking classes or somethin'," Koga said to Jomei as he did his best to focus back in on the fight. All that food, while delicious, really hit him like a fourteen wheeler full of bricks. He could barely move, which, ultimately, meant he didn't. At least not fast enough to actually hit the giant they were facing. Instead, Koga followed behind the thing as it chased his companions around. "You guys got this," he panted in response to Oscar. "When we finish up here, you, me, and anyone else who wants," he looked between Oscar and Mina, "should hit up Taft and find some. Maybe we get some good meals out of it while we're at it." That was assuming, of course, they weren't kicked out for burning the place down or something.

A stray thought struck him like a bullet. "Anyone know if this big fucker is edible?" Koga asked, pointing at the The Ancient with his katana.

Fixed duration of FRSTB q.q (Idk why it was a 3-turn thing ;A;)

"Shit man, I'll happily volunteer for some cooking classes!" Violet looked amused, hurling her fan forward once again. "I know a few good recipes from going around and hunting rare ingredients for a friend of mine, and I'm more than happy to share the knowledge~!Lament swirled around the boss, the vivid hues from its multicolored fire splashing across its body. "God, I don't know why I was so freaked out about this guy when I saw him for the first time! This is rookie shit compared to some of the other field bosses I've seen - though I guess anything looks pitiful compared to the floor bosses, haha!Lament landed back in her hand, and she snapped it back into place on her waist.

"Jomei, you should be able to sneeze on the big guy and kill him. After he goes down, we can go ahead and pack it up so we can finish any of our last-minute raid prep!" She elbowed Koga, an amused look on her face. "And I seriously doubt that a giant rock golem would be even remotely edible, buddy. If you're hungry, I can treat you to dinner with some friends if you'd like? That offer extends to all of you by the way!"

"Cooking classes, eh?" Jomei chimed in with a smirk, "If you're offering, then allow me to be your student, sensei." a deep, overly acted out bow really sold the act. In the end, it would probably benefit him more if he was the one cooking for himself. "Maybe once we take down the floor boss, of course." They wouldn't be cooking meals ever again if they didn't focus and prepare properly for whatever the guardian of Floor 28 had for them.

Relative to the original size of The Ancient's health bar, there was only a sliver of red that remained. And with the others creating an opening for a clean shot, Jomei had the opportunity to land the killing blow. If he didn't completely whiff it like his last attack. "On it." Jomei would a comment with a nod before a blur of green rushed forth. Massive boulders for muscles twitched and strained as the giant fought against the stunning effects placed on it. With no way to combat the saw like attack from Mina's fan, its defenses were left wide open.

White streaks of holy light trailed behind Jomei's blade with each strike, lingering as the duelist finished his attack. One final thrust of his rapier drove the tip deep into the core of the golem, the kickback from unleashing the rest of the divine energy would knock The Ancient onto its back, all life drained from its mountain-like form. Once the resulting quake of the floor around them to cease, the image of the Field Boss would shatter like glass. The tiny fragments of data raining to the ground around them, vanishing into the grass. "Sorry Koga, looks like there's nothing left to bite into. Look's like we'll have to take Mina up on that offer."

"Who the Hell  you saying needs cooking classes?"

Oscar was upset. Offended. Fundamentally insulted. His visage had twisted into some strange expression, not unlike one would make when they realized they had stepped into something foul. He thrust his hands into his pockets, stepping forward to take hold of one of a quartet of brilliantly-glowing crystals left in the enemy's wake. As it discorporated and added itself to Oscar's inventory, his expression morphed again. A wide grin stretched over his features as he turned to the face his companions.

"'Cause I know you ain't talkin' to me," he added. His thick New England accent made him sound as if he'd stepped straight out of the Godfather. Robert De Niro would be proud of Aincrad's most esteemed lord of the memes. He even gestured towards his chest, thumb and forefinger pressed together in a rough facsimile of the actor's on-screen mannerisms. Finally, a gentle chuckle escaped his lips.

"That was some good work, fellas - and Mina. A bit disappointing, if I'm being honest. But at least we got a good warm-up in before the Raid."

It was an absolute wonder that a bunch of young idiots like themselves made up the bulk of Aincrad's vanguard. The one's that risked their lives every time they stepped into a boss room. Between the friendly, non-chalant banter, the joking, and the strange inclination to try and eat something that is utterly inedible, you'd think people like them would've been turned into mincemeat by now.

But nope. That was Aincrad's Finest for you.

"Food on Mina?" Koga said, immediately forgetting about the giant mountain-rock-monster thing, in favor of a free meal. "Well don't go twisting my arm." Jomei reappeared at Koga's side as the Ancient behind them exploded into a colorful display of lights and shards. "Bite into what? I have no idea what you're talking about, Jomei."

It was just about then that Oscar got right close to Koga's face and said somethings. In a vaguely threatening tone. Koga was having a hard time deciding if he was terrified or aroused he was neither. "Uh? Are you a cook or something?" the man asked obliviously.

Anyways, the job was done and there way a fancy new decanter of light in Koga's inventory now. "Good work, folks," the swordsman agreed with the others. "Think we earned ourselves a little celebration before the big day, no?"

Violet looked amused at Oscar's reaction. "Are you telling me that you wouldn't jump at the chance to see someone else's techniques?" she raised an eyebrow, a playful smile on her face. "Besides, you could probably teach all of us something new, yeah? I'm always down to learn something new, and sharing knowledge is always welcome in my book." Violet nodded at Jomei, a happy smile on her face. At least two of them were going to join her for a nice meal. "Sounds good to me! You guys have a preference for where we go, or do you just wanna stick a dart at a board and let RNG pick for us? It'll save us some trouble if we come up with more than a couple of options." Personally, violet would rather just go over to one of their houses, and just do a potluck, but she doubted that would be ideal.

"We probably should head back soon, though. Won't be too long til the raid is going to get moving, and we'd be missing almost an entire team if we all don't make it!"

Four, pearlescent objects fell to the ground in The Ancient's wake, each of them giving a soft, yet bright glow. Nearly matched the energy his sword had given off during that last attack of his. One crystal for each of them - or for whoever required its buffs during the raid. Looking over the item and its benefits for a moment, as the others continued on about cooking classes and food, he would eventually surrender the crystal to his inventory. "I personally have no preferences, and would be open to anything either of you suggest." he chimed in with a smile. "Although.. all this talk about cooking has gotten me curious how your meals taste, rather than just the quick combat consumable. I would not mind hosting if any of you wanted to put on the chef's hat. I'll even supply the ingredients."

"But," he reassured them with a small shrug, "If we prefer to wait for after the raid, lets do that."

"Well you got me there, Mina," Oscar said with a laugh. In truth, it only benefited Oscar and his craft to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Even if it might have been something so provincial as cooking classes. But his Magnum Opus still called to him. It might have been precisely because of that that he was able to set his pride aside for the sake of his current, ultimate goal. But still, he didn't want to spoil the surprise. That was half the fun, after all. Confirming to all of the Players that bosses were not threats, they were food. It would do wonders to bolster morale. Still, being a Cook, Oscar could afford to give them a taste of what was to come at the very least. Provided they all survived this next Raid.

"I may just take you up on that, Jomei. But keep an eye on your messages. You might wind up getting an invite to something in the near future." He waved his farewells to the group and set off back towards town. Walking backwards, he flashed them all a smile. "I'll catch you guys at the Raid. Make sure you stay alive, yeah?"
