[F01-SP] Rock Out With Your Lute Out | <<Earning a Living>>

...Maybe he had a bad batch of crystals? At least this one only split, rather then exploding, but he could tell it was a near thing, the crystal going mostly to powder as he poked it cautiously out of the slot on the recording device. Luckily the device itself was made of sturdy stuff and unharmed outside of some lighter-colored scratches from the media detonating in its holder over and over again.

Maybe the music itself was a problem? But Landon was capable of belting out metal ballads, so his death metal night core fusion wasn't that out of the ball park.

Well, there was nothing for it but to keep on trying - though Han decided to focus less on producing the perfect song, and maybe not destroying the media this time.

Maybe the crystals just weren't good enough to hold the sheer power of his music. Yeah, that was the ticket to self-confidence!

Yup, that was definitely the right time to stop. This time, Han had paid a lot more attention to his media and less to his music - more experience would make juggling the three tasks - singing, music and checking the media - a lot easier. But he caught the subtle rising hum as the recording crystal began to build a feedback resonance and cut the power before it became critical. In fact, he thought that the crystal would even be usable in his next attempt, though he sought out Landon for an experienced second opinion.

Landon turned the crystal around carefully and checked it against the light. "Yep, good job their kid. I don't see anything wrong with this one, so you got it in time. As you get more experienced you'll have less failures, but it's luck of the draw if the crystal survives intact when you cut power - about 50/50 I'd say."

With that warning, Hanzoku goes back to his crafting attempts, slowly becoming more comfortable with balancing all the needed parts.

He leaned back in the chair and closed his eyes in weariness, letting his arms arms dangle. He thought that the performance would be the hard part, but adding the difficulty of balancing and keeping the recording media stable and not violently explosive brought the whole experience to a whole other level. "Kayaba, you are such a dick." the exhausted player said to the uncaring universe. The only thing that could have made it worse was if you had to play more mini-games at the same time.

He opened his eyes and gathered up his recording equipment and the song crystal, which now glowed softly with an internal light.

"Hey, old man, what do you think?" he said as he tossed the crystal to Landon. The old rockstar caught it deftly and looked it over.

"Mmm... not bad, not bad. HP Recovery II it looks like. I was expecting you to take a lot longer with this." He pressed a button on the crystal and listened to part of the song. "Not my jam, but it's not bad." he tossed the crystal back and grinned at Hanzoku. "Performing's not for the faint of heart, kid. Takes guts, hard work, and talent. But from where I'm standing, you've got it all. Knock 'em dead."

* Pending answer to question about the quest text stating 'You may not keep any additional materials, but you will be guaranteed the five awarded to you as a quest reward.' . For now, materials have been calculated at 12 gathered, 5 turned in, 3 used in failed attempts, leaving 4 remaining + 5 from the quest reward.  Question was answered - the 5 turned in are used (first) for crafting attempts, any any left over remain with the shop. Thus 7 gathered, 5 from the quest reward for 12 total.
