[PP - F22] Pondside Practice «Training Your Friend»

Recommended Posts

The tranquil setting of Shirajishi-ryū Valley was a serene escape from the relentless battles of the frontlines. Ariel, comfortably seated on the grass beside the fishing pond, cast her line with practiced ease. The gentle rustle of leaves and the soft lapping of the water provided a calming backdrop.

She had invited Dracul to join her for a unique training session. The quest to train their familiars was an excellent opportunity to spend some time away from the usual grind and see how well their partners would adapt to new skills. Ariel was focused on her fishing, but her attention was split between the sport and the training session.

Nearby, Dracul’s greyhound, Julius, was eagerly trotting around, occasionally stopping to sniff at the grass or glance at Ariel’s lioness, Kimba. Ariel glanced over at Dracul, who was working on gathering materials. The landscape around them was lush and vibrant, the perfect setting for training and bonding with their familiars.

Ariel could see Kimba, her majestic white-furred lioness, sitting attentively by her side. The lioness’s large, intelligent eyes watched both Ariel and Julius with a curious expression. Ariel had spent the last few days training Kimba, but today, she hoped to push her familiar further, unlocking a new skill that would enhance Kimba’s abilities in future encounters.

Ariel nodded toward Dracul. “Are you ready to begin?” she called out, her tone casual but focused. She knew that this training session would be an interesting test of their coordination and patience, especially with Dracul’s tendency to act a bit too superior. But Ariel was determined to make the most of the day, regardless of any underlying tension.

I glanced up from my task as Ariel’s voice drifted over. There was something undeniably charming about this place, the serene pond with its rippling water and the gentle breeze rustling through the trees. Yet, as I looked over at Ariel, I couldn’t help but feel a bit smug.

Ready?” I chuckled, giving Julius a pat on the head. My greyhound, a sturdy mix with a sleek black coat and a distinctive white spot, had been trotting around excitedly, clearly enjoying the outing. Training him was something I took seriously, though I rarely showed it.

Let’s see if Julius can master this new skill as effortlessly as you’ve mastered your fishing technique.” I teased, throwing a casual glance at Ariel. I didn’t expect her to be fazed by my jabs; if anything, it would probably spur her on.

Julius was now sitting attentively, his ears perked up and his tail wagging. I could tell he was eager to get started. I’d read about various skills Julius could learn and was particularly interested in one that would enhance his tracking abilities. It seemed like the perfect fit for him, and I was eager to see if this training would bear fruit.

Alright, Julius, let’s show Ariel what we’re made of!” I said with a grin, giving my companion a firm but encouraging pat.

Ariel observed Dracul with a mixture of amusement and curiosity. Despite his occasional condescension, she knew he took his training seriously. She saw the gleam of determination in his eyes and knew he wouldn’t let Julius down.

Ariel adjusted her fishing rod and turned her attention to Kimba. The lioness had a natural grace and strength, but Ariel hoped to refine her abilities further. Today’s training would involve teaching Kimba a skill related to agility—something that could be useful in both combat and everyday tasks.

Alright, Kimba, let’s get started too!” Ariel said, her voice firm but encouraging. The lioness responded with a flick of her tail, her focus entirely on Ariel. Kimba’s keen intelligence and quick reflexes made her an excellent candidate for this type of training.

The first few attempts were simple exercises—sprints across the open space, jumps over small obstacles, and quick changes in direction. Ariel watched closely, making mental notes of Kimba’s performance. The lioness was already agile, but Ariel aimed to push her limits further.
