Laika is a Curved Sword and Shield bearing player, rather shy in his deposition despite the more defensive role he usually takes in battle. A tank by nature, Laika always leads the charge even if he doesn’t always take it, placing himself willingly between his allies and the danger that they face, and he possesses the fortitude to do it too! Once self-confined to the dark space of his room in the Town of Beginnings, he has taken his first steps in the longest time, and is now as ready as he will ever be to fight for his life, and the life of others who were once— or still are— like he was.

History   Reveal hidden contents Cowardice. Fear. Terror, Horror, and Dread. All of these feelings and more shook his hand as he shyly pulled the game off of the shelf. It was hard to look anyone in the eye without having a complete panic attack, so having sunglasses to block his eyeline was pretty much the only thing keeping him from running away from the polite cashier without even paying. Not even to steal, just leaving the premises before breaking down altogether. Thankfully he was able to put down the cash he had for the game and left without any incidents, already a step in the right direction in his book. He missed those simpler moments, the ones where all he had to worry about was making enough money to eat the next day and making sure that his cat Cheese got fed. He was so glad now that he had gone to the vet overnight due to an operation. It was minor, with no risk of lasting injury, and he was more than happy to drive over and pick him up the next day. He was looking forward to that, but now he has new problems to deal with and issues to worry about. Like making sure he can survive to the next day, not letting his HP even turn a single shade yellow, and managing to scrape together whatever he could to try and rid himself of that simulated hunger. At least sleep wasn’t an issue. When he didn’t have nightmares about dying to a simple level one boar that is. He already had his panic attacks, several on the first day and many more over the weeks past, holing up in a random building in the town of beginnings. It was more like the town of ends for him, planted in one spot like concrete. Laika… why did he choose that name? The first dog to go into space, only to never return. Well, while he was far from the first to log into the hellish world of Aincrad, he certainly had no chance of returning. Then why did he pick such a horrible name? He could see how horrible it was in hindsight but… when he picked it he had no idea what would happen… Cowardice. Fear. Terror, Horror, and Dread… and... A spark of something different that cut through the screams of hopelessness, the pain that filled his heart and mind whenever he even laid a finger on the grass outside the gates of his safe haven. Bravery. He chose that name because of bravery; because of the strength of will and the heart that Laika held even as she was sent off into the unknown. Like the kind he felt when he first slipped on the nervegear and prepared for the dive. It was the hope for a chance for things to be different— for him to be different. He was still afraid, shivering down to the bone as he stepped outside, but like the moment he stepped out of his apartment to actually get the game, the chance he saw to be someone different… he had hope. He felt… brave. He had to be. Who wasn’t afraid of risking their lives? At least this way he actually had a life worth said risk. And maybe… he could give others a chance to be brave, just like he gave himself one. Virtues and Flaws   Reveal hidden contents Aspiring No matter the challenge, no matter the struggle, Laika will always fight to achieve his goals. A real dreamer, he strives to be everything he’s not and then some, or at least enough for others to see him and be able to take that first step that he had struggled with before. Sure, he still possesses those thoughts of insecurity and doubt, but who doesn’t? All he does with them is acknowledge them, then go to prove them wrong. Considerate He knows what it’s like to be at the very bottom in life; he’s been there too. He knows how to talk to the frightened and how to inspire the unsure, how to bring someone out of their shell by telling them how much he knows how difficult doing so can be. Rest assured, if you’re struggling or in a difficult and dark place, he will be right there next to you to help you out in the most natural and comfortable way possible. Savvy For all the lack of doing pretty much anything, Laika’s intuition and problem solving skills are razor sharp, able to identify said problem and whip up a possible solution, or find a weakness that can be exploited by his allies so they can solve it themselves. He counts all the resources at hand and spends them wisely, with consideration for the cost and the benefit, doing his best to keep the former low and the latter high. He isn’t the best at sharing such plans… but he likes to surround himself with friends that can communicate them for him. Fearful If you look closely during battle, you can see that while he has a tight grip on his shield and a strong swing of his blade, his hands are always shaking. Shy and Cautious by nature, pushing himself to be at the frontlines of every battle takes a toll on his mental strength, a toll that can sometimes cause him to slip up during important moments because he just… froze. Still reliable for the most part, able to put on a strong face, but he’ll likely collapse once the battle is over and need a while to recover. Meek Laika… doesn’t like to talk much— if at all in social spaces. Usually around people he doesn’t know well he keeps it short; a word or two is good enough for him, and he hopes it’s good enough for the person he’s talking too. Keep an eye on his body language, it speaks more than any sound out of his mouth could. Understand that, and he’ll be very appreciative, and might open up more too. Unconvincing Unless you find his shyness charming or cute, he likely isn’t going to get his way for any sort of interaction. More of an active listener than an active speaker, he chokes up when trying to get his point across or make a proper deal with someone. That’s why he usually leaves the talking to the people around him, his friends, and basically anyone else with actually well-developed social skills. Doesn’t mean he can’t make himself heard when the situation really calls for it, but that’s few and far between.
