Nymoria 0 Posted September 2 #1 Share Posted September 2 A lot had happened in the past few weeks for Nymoria. Continued growth and development had led her to a point where she was almost ready to be self sufficient and self reliant. She had collected enough col and materials to maintain and grow her business, and yet she somehow felt like things weren’t entirely progressing as she had wanted. The inn she had been staying at was feeling more and more oppressing with every day that passed, and she awoke every morning looking for an excuse to escape from its entrapping walls – as if they were a direct reminder of the game that she had been dragged, and trapped, within. This morning was no different, and although she had scrolled through the quest menu time and time again, Nymoria had found nothing that called to her as something worth completing. She’d ended up closing out the menu with a hard huffing sound, her hands dropping back to the bed on either side of her form as she closed her eyes and tried to think up an idea of what to do for the day. She needed to get out, to do something, even if it was some menial task that was nothing more than a selfish fulfillment. I could head out on some random quest. At least it would give me the experience, and whatever other random skill could be useful. Or maybe items, if its one of those…no. I’m not interested in doing a quest today. I need something more… Nymoria knew what she wanted – something that would help prepare for the up coming raid against the floor boss. Rumours had begun to spread more and more frequently. Although groups had left in search of the various materials and items that would benefit them during a raid boss, few had returned yet. She’s signed her self up to help out as well, and although she had felt excited about it, she’d also been off put by the need to wait. What if…I go and do some of it myself? I’ve really grown a lot, so I should be able to face a field boss with little issue. I think…I mean, it’s worth a try at least? I can always leave if things start going too bad. She glanced over at Musei as the weasel lifted its head from the small bed it slept in. She smiled slightly at the creature, happy to see his form resting and reminding her that she wasn’t alone here. Alright. Yeah. Let’s do that. The second floor, I think it was. That shouldn’t be too hard… She quickly confirmed her memory, before hopping up from the bed and causing the weasel to awaken once more, a curious look on its face as it waited to see what she was doing. Come on Musei, we’re going hunting. Maybe we’ll be able to afford an actual house after this? She signed towards the weasel, the creature leaping into the air as soon as it recognised her hand signals. His claws made their way up her pant leg, eventually coming to a rest on her shoulder as she collected the various pieces of gear she would need for the day – including the small satchel that had become his travelling home. His face and form disappearing over her shoulder and into the comfy container as it appeared on her back, nestling in to wait until he was needed further. A single, final glance around the room confirmed Nymoria’s decision, and she made her way towards the door – and fresh air and freedom – before she could second guess herself. ---- Nymoria activates the following: Imperial Quarter Blend {1} [Tea | Potion | Damage III] Spyglass {1} | Reduce Search Posts x5 [Dungeon, Familiar, Field Boss] for one thread Statblock Spoiler Notes [Theme] Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [605/605] | EN [83/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] Tier 1 | Tier 3 Equipment Silence [Rapier | Tier 3] Enhancement: Bleed [1 Slot] Enhancement: Keen [2 Slots] Ring of Evasion [Jewelry | Tier 1] Enhancement: Evasion [3 Slots] Hearing Aid [Trinket | Tier 1] Enhancement: Accuracy [3 Slots] Battle-Ready Inventory Uncommon Health Potion {5} [Potion | Tier 1 | Heals 5% Maximum HP] Spyglass {2} | Reduce Search Posts x5 [Dungeon, Familiar, Field Boss] for one thread bento {1} [Meal | Tierless | Oveerhealth III] Teleport Crystal {1} Honey Cookie {5} [Snack | Tier 1 | Vitality II] Skills Spoiler Utility Skills N/A Combat Skills Battle Healing [Rank: 5. Nymoria 0 Posted September 2 Author #2 Share Posted September 2 The trip to the second floor had been as eventful as Nymoria had expected. She’d passed through the various crowds of the Town of Beginnings on her way to the teleporter pad, waited in line for the ever present lines that had become a norm on the floor’s main courtyard – a fact that she still wasn’t sure whether to consider a bliss or a hindrance to her main way off the floor – before heading out of the main settlement’s gates and into the fields that surrounded the mountain side town. She’d considered the increase in player activity lately, happy to see numerous individuals coming out once more for another push towards the top. It was their only main way to escape the game, she knew, even if it meant that there would be line ups at places that had once been relatively empty and unused. Consider it a worthwhile sacrifice. It’s the only way you’re going to get out of here. They would need every available player in order to escape the death game, Nymoria knew that, and having to wait a few minutes in order to get to her destination wouldn’t be the end of her world. A though that brought a laugh to her mind as she considered the traffic that she used to deal with in the real world, whenever she had to go anywhere. At least you’re not having to cram into an overcrowded train with everyone else. That’s one experience I’m not looking forward to going back to, once we escape from here. She found herself giggling at the thought, an odd reaction considering the seriousness of the topic at hand. Shaking it off, she refocused on the path before her, following the trail that she had found leading her towards – what she hoped would be – the floor’s field boss. She’d obtained a little bit of information about the creature before making her way to the second floor, paying a passing information broker that she had run into on her way out of the inn. Nothing about it had seemed to be too much of a surprise – the system would automatically balance her to a lower level, in order to make it more ‘fair’ for the field boss. Or more challenging for the player, depending on how one looked at it. The few details regarding its power and capability had been almost laughable to Nymoria. Even with the reduction in her own skills and capabilities, she knew that she well outpowered the thing. It wouldn’t be her easiest fight, but it also wouldn’t present a major challenge to her in any way. It’ll be an annoyance is all. Once I find it, that is. Although…I shouldn’t go into this too cocky. I’m not as good as the top level players, and someone said even they have trouble with field bosses sometimes. I need to be serious. She nodded silently to herself as she continued forwards, her sabre tapping against her thigh gently as she walked across the rougher ground, leaving the path behind as she saw the various collection of wasp-like creatures floating over the fields. Somewhere here would be the queen, the mother of all wasps, which was her target for the day – she just needed to find it. Ah, isn’t that it over there? Her eyes shifted towards it, smiling slightly as she noticed a larger creature compared to the rest of them floating lazily as it waited for…something. Nymoria drew her sabre, making her way towards it even as she prepared herself for the coming fight. I guess I get to be the thing it’s waiting for today. Nymoria 0 Posted September 2 Author #3 Share Posted September 2 The wasp queen seemed preoccupied as Nymoria approached it, her presence and arrival going mostly unnoticed until she was only a few steps away from the thing’s form. Suddenly, without warning, it had turned towards Nymoria with a spin in the air, the wings buzzing harshly as it tried to both lift itself higher from the ground, as well as rush towards the player that had moved to engage it. Neither action helped it, however, as Nymoria rushed forwards to meet the thing, her sabre in hand lashing outwards with a harsh strike and impacting the thing directly on the side of its head, leaving a gash and forcing the queen wasp off kilter as it drifted to the side, stunned from the blow and left listless and harmless to Nymoria for the few seconds that the effect would last. Ha! And it’s bleeding too! A good start to this…I should be able to finish this thing off easily. Almost…too easily, honestly. There’s no real challenge to this, even if it’s necessary. The excitement partially died off as the negative thoughts came in, Nymoria wondering what had caused them as she stepped to the side and waited for an opening to appear in the queen wasp’s movements. The thing seemed dazed and confused after the strike it had taken – a fact that Nymoria normally would’ve taken advantage of instantly. If this were a normal creature…but this is a field boss. They’re stronger, smarter…more dangerous. Take your time with this one. Make sure it’s the right moment. That last thing you want is to walk directly into a trap it lays for you. She would be patiently, even if it meant waiting longer for the right moment. She had the entire day to spend in the field – a fact that she planned to take full advantage of as well – which meant she didn’t need to rush in for a dangerous kill, and possibly face retaliation from the queen wasp in the same moment. If Aincrad had taught her anything over the time she had spent within its boundaries, it was that rushing and being foolish often led to death. An ending that she wanted to avoid, for as long as possible. But why? The nagging voice in the back of her mind was almost missed as she took a single step forward before coming to a stop. Confusion flowed through her as she tried to figure out where the words had come from, what had caused them. She listened for a few seconds – the queen wasp still struggling to right itself after the blow she had landed on it, although Nymoria figured that wouldn’t last too much longer – waiting to see if it would return and speak more. Only silence met her, however, and she eventually shrugged it off, a nagging feeling of confusion remaining even as she chose to continue her assault. Maybe it was nothing? Still shaken from the oddity of the situation, she took another step towards the queen wasp, hesitating only for a second to make sure the voice wouldn’t return before launching herself in earnest towards her opponent. She didn’t quite forget about the voice, but she turned her entire attention towards bringing the field boss down in a single strike, hoping to end the fight and focus on what had occurred once she was relatively safe from the immediate danger. Her sabre slashed through the air as the queen wasp suddenly adjusted itself, seemingly returning to its regular form of movement just as Nymoria approached it – either having been given enough time to recover, or simply called back to action by the return of the threat to its form. Either way, Nymoria aimed to bring the thing down as quickly as she could. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [605/605] | EN [65/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | +1 EN | -8 EN The Wasp Queen | HP: 0/315 | MIT: 20 | DMG: 35 | ACC: 0 | EVA: 1 | Bleed [36 | 2/2] | Stun Immunity [1/3] Royal Stinger | On CD 6+, the Queen’s attacks will ignore 50% of the target’s MIT (rounded up). Nymoria 0 Posted September 2 Author #4 Share Posted September 2 The queen exploded into shards as Nymoria’s blade passed through it, and she felt herself release a breath of air as the moment passed and the danger was left behind, if only for the moment. She knew that the creature would eventually reappear – ready to be fought once more, should she choose to do so. It would take time, she had been told, but Nymoria had all the time in the world today, and knew that she was going to use it to her favour. It had been her plan to locate and obtain as many of the field boss’s drops as she could possibly get, in preparation of the coming raid, and so she had prepared herself for the long day ahead as much as she could. Musei’s form had escaped from his pouch at some point, and as he returned with a small stash of goods, Nymoria had passed him a treat – a simple stick of meats that she had purchased earlier in the day – in order to thank him for his continued work and support. She had to admit that the hunting familiar had been a perfect choice for their needs, a blessing in disguise if she had been entirely honest. The amount of money, materials and items that they had earned had been as much in thanks to the weasel’s efforts as Nymoria’s own; a fact that she hoped he understood she appreciated. As if. She recoiled slightly at the voice, her eyes narrowing as she tried to figure out why it had returned. It had contained a dark undertone, an almost snarl behind its words that had seemed – in no attempt to be overtly dramatic – almost sinister in essence. She gave a sharp shake of her head, determined not to let the voice bother her any more than need be, before returning to the focus of the tasks at hand. She didn’t want to wait around for the field boss to reappear – a task that could take quite some time, if the information broker had been accurate and trustworthy – and in search of something to occupy her time, Nymoria’s eyes shifted to the nearby collection of wasps that hovered over the grassy areas. I might as well while I’m here. I mean, there’s no harm in spending a bit of time and energy – so long as I make sure I’m fine by the time the queen wasp reappears…plus, it would be a shame not to take the time to make some more money…and materials. Her decision made, she shifted herself to look around more fully, trying to determine where the best group to attack would be. She didn’t want to overwhelm herself – she’d learnt that mistake in Nemo’s garden – but she wanted to maximize her efforts as much as she could. Her eyes trailed around, looking for a group of three or four wasps that seemed somewhat more drifted from the main packings that roamed the area, hoping to catch one collection that wouldn’t immediately draw in the remainder of them. What about that one over there? She’d spotted them after a few seconds of glancing back and forth, barely visible due to how far away they were, and the fact that other groups kept gliding between her and them. I should be able to make my way towards them without attracting the others. She confirmed as she took off, her pace casual, but a bounce in her step allowing her to pass by the other mobs and adjust her movement to ensure she didn’t accidentally engage any of them on the way. Yeah, wouldn’t want to do something dangerous. The voice reappeared again, and Nymoria almost tripped as she came upon the small group she had been intending to engage, her momentum broken even as they turned towards her. She wanted to retreat, to peel back and consider what was happening within her own mind, but the trio of wasps were upon her before she could do anything more than rush forwards in counter of their attack. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [605/605] | EN [51/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | +1 EN | -15 EN Windwasp 1 | HP: 480/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 2 | HP: 174/480 | DMG: 120 | Bleed [36 | 1/2] Windwasp 3 | HP: 240/480 | DMG: 120 ID229450 | BD: 1+5=6 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 1>> | Critical Miss | MOB: 5-4=1 | Miss ID229451 | BD: 10+5=15 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 2>> | Major Critical Hit: [(16+2)x15] = 270 damage | Bleed [36 | 1/2] | MOB: 7-4=3 | Miss ID229452 | BD: 5+5=10 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 3>> | Hit: [16x15] = 240 damage | MOB: 2-4=-2 | Miss Keen Activated [+2 BD next attack] Spoiler Loot Rolls ID229429 | LD: 11 | CD: 10 | 2,520 [1,080+720+720] col, 2 materials, Rare Armor/Shield {1} Loot Totals 2,520 col 2 materials Rare Armor/Shield {1} | 229429 Matriarch’s Stinger {1} | (T1/Consumable/Single Use); Increases Multiplier of SA attacks by 1 for the duration of one thread. Nymoria 0 Posted September 2 Author #5 Share Posted September 2 The wasps had wound themselves around her, their path taking them into a dizzying flight that seemed to be reminiscent of a tornado’s general cylindrical shape – except without the gale force winds that made such an event dangerous to the individual inside. In fact, as Nymoria adjusted her eyesight to their flight path, she realised that it gave her more of an advantage against them than if they had simply flown on by her. Their current circular flight meant that they stayed within range of her sabre, should she just slash outwards into their path they would likely run directly into the weapon through pure coincidence. Wouldn’t that be nice and easy for you? Wouldn’t have to do any actual work, as usual. Nymoria squinted, her eyes unbothered by the small gusts of wind that passed by her with each form circling her, but rather concerned about the voice that continued to grow within her mind. She knew, at least partially, what the voice was and where it came from. It had taken her only a single moment to recognise it against the other thoughts – a creeping, growing cloud of darkness that wanted nothing more than to consume her like it had once before. What she didn’t know, however, was why it had returned. Before she was able to consider it any more, however, she was drawn back to the present as a collection of stingers raked towards her and forced her to leap backwards. Her form broke the circle, as two of the wasps charged after her – met by the biting blade of her sabre as she cut into them and drove them back towards their friend, giving her a bit of space and time to consider how best to handle what was happening. I need to focus on taking them down, then I can figure out what is happening here. Put it all aside for the time being – ignore it. I need to ignore it. Just. Ignore it. She repeated the words continuously until they had overridden any existence of the alternative voice within her mind; breaking it apart until it could no longer distract her from the fight that she was continuing to hold all at the same time. Her sabre had, without pause, continued to deflect strike after strike from the wasps. But she knew that she wouldn’t be able to continue it forever, that they would eventually find away passed her defences and score a strike that could tilt the fight in their favour. Strike first. Don’t let them get the advantage. That’s all I need to do. It was a simple idea, but one that Nymoria knew she needed to take advantage of as soon as she could. If she continued to allow the wasps the chance to push her further and further backwards, she would only lose the momentum that she had gained with the queen wasp – something that she wasn’t ready to lose quite yet. I can’t give in here, not in this place. It would be far too shameful…although maybe that’s what I deserve. Maybe that’s the sort of death that’s befitting of someone like me- A sudden roar unleashed in her mind as Nymoria pushed back against it, her muscles tensing before leaping outwards towards the wasps in a maneuver that was more aggression than finesse, her regular form of fighting abandoned as she tried to rip and tear whatever was bringing the voice forth within her. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [605/605] | EN [37/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | +1 EN | -15 EN Windwasp 1 | HP: 240/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 2 | HP: 0/480 | DMG: 120 | Bleed [36 | 1/2] Windwasp 3 | HP: 240/480 | DMG: 120 ID229467 | BD: 5+7=12 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 1>> | Hit: [16x15] = 240 damage | MOB: 2-4=-2 | Miss ID229468 | BD: 2+7=9 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 2>> | Hit: [16x15] = 240 damage | Destroyed ID229469 | BD: 1+7=8 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 3>> | Critical Miss | MOB: 3-4=-1 | Miss Keen Activated [+2 BD next attack] ID229470 | Loot Windwasp 2 Spoiler Loot Rolls ID229429 | LD: 11 | CD: 10 | 2,520 [1,080+720+720] col, 2 materials, Rare Armor/Shield {1} ID229470 | LD: [6+1] = 7 | CD: 5 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} Loot Totals 5,400 col 4 materials Rare Armor/Shield {1} | 229429 Rare Trinket {1} | 229470 Matriarch’s Stinger {1} | (T1/Consumable/Single Use); Increases Multiplier of SA attacks by 1 for the duration of one thread. Nymoria 0 Posted September 2 Author #6 Share Posted September 2 One of the wasps fell beneath her sudden onslaught, another taking a slash across its wings before it retreated from her reach. Their sudden break off didn’t stop Nymoria though, and she chased after the creatures in a mad dash as she tried to cut them down entirely, only stopping when they rose above her and well out of her reach, causing her to scream towards them in a desperate, pitiful way. She snapped back to reality with a sudden lurch, her entire form recoiling as she realised what had happened. Shaking, as much from the exertion of the experience as from the sudden chill that had enveloped her, Nymoria stared at the pair of wasps hovering above her, staying just barely out of reach of the clearly crazed player. Her mouth had fallen open at some point, her eyes widening and the sabre in her hand falling limp towards the ground as she tried to make sense of what had occurred. What…? What am I doing? What was that? Her mind raced as she tried to comprehend the change that had overcome her. It felt dark, disgusting and unwelcoming somehow – like an evil part of her had somehow arisen and taken control of her, if only momentarily. She felt herself shake again in response, trying to will away the feeling as much as she could in an attempt to return to normal. Not that you have ever been normal, have you? You’ve always been an oddity, a thing. Pitied and cared for, but never loved. Never truly understood or cared for. No one wants you around. No one needs you around. So why do you bother? It was like a slap to her face, and Nymoria felt herself recoil as she stepped backwards, her sabre coming up naturally as if she were preparing to fight something. Barely, as if from a distance, she remembered that she was still locked into combat with the wasps. And yet it felt unimportant in the moment, as if this were a greater concern for her. A great challenge that had awoken within herself. Something that she needed to face. You? Face it? How? You’ve always run away from it. Always done whatever you could to avoid it. There’s no way you’ll face it now, will you? She wanted to argue, to curse it, to tell it that it was wrong. But all her words were taken from her as the sudden brush of wind reminded her of the real threat she was facing. Only her quick reflexes had kept her from being taken advantage of, being cut down, as the pair of wasps each came flitting back towards her. She side stepped and leaped backwards as their forms slammed into the ground, missing her by a very small margin – one that was far too small for Nymoria’s comfort if she were to be honest with herself. She gave herself a quick shake, hoping to loosen all the tension that had suddenly built up within herself, trying to refocus herself on the present moment, the here and now, that she needed to be aware of. I will deal with you after. For now, I need to survive. Responses came to her thoughts, dark and demanding and filled with a viciousness that would’ve made Nymoria quiver if she hadn’t already worked to block it out. She didn’t have time, energy, or the ability to deal with it right now – not with the wasps turning around to strike at her again. She would deal with the voices once she had overcome this, but for the time being she needed to survive long enough to be able to deal with them. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [605/605] | EN [23/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | +1 EN | -15 EN Windwasp 1 | HP: 0/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 3 | HP: 0/480 | DMG: 120 ID229475 | BD: 5+7=12 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 1>> | Hit: [16x15] = 240 damage | MOB: 2-4=-2 | Miss ID229476 | BD: 1+7=8 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 3>> | Critical Miss | MOB: 3-4=-1 | Miss Keen Activated [+2 BD next attack] ID229477 | Loot Windwasp 1 ID229478 | Loot Windwasp 3 Spoiler Loot Rolls ID229429 | LD: 11 | CD: 10 | 2,520 [1,080+720+720] col, 2 materials, Rare Armor/Shield {1} ID229470 | LD: [6+1] = 7 | CD: 5 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID229477 | LD: [18+1] = 19 | CD: 5 | 2,400 [1,440+960] col, 2 materials, Perfect Armor/Shield {1}, Perfect Trinket {1} ID229478 | LD: [5+1] = 6 | CD: 10 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} Loot Totals 10,680 col 8 materials Rare Armor/Shield {1} | 229429 Rare Trinket {2} | 229470, 229478 Perfect Armor/Shield {1} | 229477 Perfect Trinket {1} | 229477 Matriarch’s Stinger {1} | (T1/Consumable/Single Use); Increases Multiplier of SA attacks by 1 for the duration of one thread. Nymoria 0 Posted September 9 Author #7 Share Posted September 9 The wasps were gone, and Nymoria was once more left standing alone in the field, trying to piece together what had occurred. An internal struggle had returned within her – she knew that much, at least. What she didn’t know, was why it had chosen now in order to make its appearance. Her hands shook, as much from the fighting as from the memory of the voice within her mind, the voice which had spoken to her in a way that she hadn’t heard in a very, very long time. It’s just like back then. It’s the same. Nymoria shook herself hard, trying to rid the feeling that had been creeping up within her even as it threatened to over take her. She had long since thought that she’d left the darkness behind. Long since come to terms with who she was, and what that meant for her – and for those around her. It had been difficult, she wouldn’t ever try and downplay the impact that it had had on her and her family, but she had assumed that she was passed the worst of it all. That she would be able to live again, like a normal person would live. But you’re not normal, are you? You never were normal. Her hands wrapped around herself, drawing inwards as she tried to shake off the feeling of envelopment that was slowly dragging her further and further inwards. The voice had spoken only what Nymoria already thought – the words nothing more than her own considerations brought into existence. Maybe I’m not normal, but I’m accepted! People…accept me… Even to her own ears, Nymoria could hear the almost pleading tone, the slowly fading resistance that it seemed to hold on to as it tried – less than successfully – to push back against the gnawing, chewing darkness that wanted nothing more than to devour her. That’s right. You’re not normal. You think you’re accepted? By who? Who has accepted you? Your mother? Who loves you like a mother should? Your sister? She pities you, knowing what you are. Who loves something so broken? Nymoria could feel the tears welling at the sides of her eyes, blurring her vision as she tried to force away the thoughts and drive them back into the corner of her mind that they had come from. She could feel herself pleading, the words lost to the sound of the overpowering voice that seemed to be echoing in her mind, little more than a feeling within herself as she tried to stop whatever was happening. She felt herself collide with something as she came to realise she had been moving slightly, her body having stood up and wandered to a nearby shelter of trees. She’d bumped into one of them, leaning against it and sliding to the ground as she struggled to control herself. Struggled to regain some level of normalcy within her mind – a task that was proving far more difficult than it should have been. She closed her eyes, focusing on nothing but her breathing, tuning out the voice within herself like she had been taught to do in all her years of therapy.
Nymoria 0 Posted September 9 Author #8 Share Posted September 9 It felt like ages had passed since she’d closed her eyes, but when Nymoria opened them again she spied the small clock at the top of her heads up display, confirming that mere moments had been left behind. In the distance she could see the floating forms of nearby windwasps, lazily moving on the air without a care in the world for the small girl that had found shelter in the protection of the trees nearby. She had little doubt that they would care for her, lest she come close enough to be a threat. Her eyes turned upwards once more, taking in the tall oak like tree that she had found refuge against, its form nothing more than a solid object to lean against as she had curled up on the ground in an attempt to leave everything behind. It worked. For now at least. She’d let out a shaky breath as she realised that her mind was once more her own. She thanked her family, not for the first time, for having her attend all those years of therapy – their pressure giving her the meagre amount of strength she’d been able to muster to survive the moment. It had been a long time since she’d felt such a strong depressive episode. A feeling that Nymoria knew she hadn’t missed. She tried to calm herself more, to bring a measure of peace back to herself as she considered what that meant for her future – she knew, from past experience, that it would only get worse if she didn’t get it under control soon. I’m not likely to find any therapists in Aincrad, though. It’s not exactly a common profession for people to pick up…although maybe a therapist would do well here. Talking people through everything…I mean, if there’s a keystone representation of traumatic incident, this would be it, wouldn’t it? As much as she wanted to find the comment funny, no smile or laugh touched her lips. It was horrible to think about it, in the moment, knowing that they would all come out of this game broken. If they came out at all. She sighed again, knowing that if she started thinking about that at all, it would be a singular path back to the darkness that had enveloped her only momentarily ago; a darkness that she didn’t ever want to return to, and yet seemed determined to pull her into its depths the instant that she let her guard down against it. I need to figure out how to handle it. What can I do, though? I know the techniques… She’d been taught a number of techniques to alleviate and control the depression that had once taken a hold of her, but as she went through them in her mind she realised that all they did was alleviate – not overcome. The only way to overcome is to go to the source…to figure that out, and then…learn to deal with it. That’s not exactly helpful, here. I mean, there must be something…something I can do… ---- ID230914 | Hunting Familiar | Cooldown: 5 posts (Post # 13) Spoiler Loot Rolls ID229429 | LD: 11 | CD: 10 | 2,520 [1,080+720+720] col, 2 materials, Rare Armor/Shield {1} ID229470 | LD: [6+1] = 7 | CD: 5 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID229477 | LD: [18+1] = 19 | CD: 5 | 2,400 [1,440+960] col, 2 materials, Perfect Armor/Shield {1}, Perfect Trinket {1} ID229478 | LD: [5+1] = 6 | CD: 10 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID230914 | LD: 3 | CD: 6 | 1,800 [1,080+720] col, 2 materials Loot Totals 12,480 col 10 materials Rare Armor/Shield {1} | 229429 Rare Trinket {2} | 229470, 229478 Perfect Armor/Shield {1} | 229477 Perfect Trinket {1} | 229477 Matriarch’s Stinger {1} | (T1/Consumable/Single Use); Increases Multiplier of SA attacks by 1 for the duration of one thread. Nymoria 0 Posted September 9 Author #9 Share Posted September 9 The queen should be returning soon. I need to get this under control, at least for the time that I’m out here, before it causes more problems. Nymoria wasn’t stupid enough to think that she could simply overcome the depression that had begun to return to her – it was too strong, too familiar and intertwined into her mind. What she did know, what she had been taught through all the counselling and experience that she had gone through, was that she could at the very least control it to some degree. To make it bearable, if only for a small period of time, so that she could complete her day here and deal with it later. There were a number of tricks that she had been taught, tricks that she had tucked into the back of her mind for instances like this – although she had hoped that she would never have to use them again. It looks like it was worth holding on to them, at least. Breathing is the first one…the most important one. Control the breathing, control the mind. Focus on that. Then you can move to the others… She kept her eyes open this time as she took careful breaths in, before releasing them. She counted down each change in the motion, timing it all until she was certain that she had her breath under control. She was careful to think of nothing other than the breaths, and the timing between each. There was no need to deviate from the thought, no need to welcome in another possible episode, while she was focusing on calming herself to a point where she could deal with the more dangerous aspects of the depression. For now…breathing…the rest comes later. Breath. In. Two. Three. Four. Out. Two. Three. Four. She continued for a while, until she could feel her pulse slowing, her hands no longer shaking like they had been during the worst part of the attack. Okay I’m still in danger. Where’s my sabre? Her eyes searched the nearby field, locating the weapon a few arms lengths away from her. She quickly checked the area around for any dangers – windwasps drifted by, but nowhere near enough to cause concern for her yet. Confirming that there was a direct path to the weapon without pulling any of the creatures attention towards herself, she slowly pushed herself to her knees, and then to her feet as she used the tree for support. Swaying only slightly, she held a hand against it to steady herself, waiting until she was comfortable before stepping away from it and moving towards the sabre. The distance seemed to take her forever to cross, each step and motion heavy as if she’d run a marathon, causing her leg muscles to burn in response. They’ll be okay. Just need to get the sabre. Then I’ll be safer. Another deep breath and she took the next and final step towards the weapon, slowly lowering herself to it as she tried not to unbalance herself. There was no need to rush, and Nymoria knew that it would be safer to take her time, rather than trip and cause more imbalance for herself.
Nymoria 0 Posted September 9 Author #10 Share Posted September 9 She felt a measure calmer as she picked up the sabre from the ground, the feel of the hilt in her grasp somehow pushing away another measure of the depression and darkness that had been hovering at the very edges. It wasn’t gone – not entirely, at least – but it had receded to a point where she could think calmly, and somewhat more clearly compared to when it had first taken over her entirely mind. She let out another deep breath, straightening her pose and standing up once more before turning back towards the tree where she had first found refuge. She knew that she was still unstable – physically, if not mentally – which prompted her to cross the area carefully and slowly once more. All of this will have been for nothing if I just collapse into the dirt here and now. Just take your time, there’s no need to rush anything. You’ll be okay if you take your time. Breath. Remember to breath. You’ve got this. She felt her hand touch the bark of the tree, the texture harsh against her digital palm, and she confirmed that she had made it back to the safety of the spot. Turning, leaning her back against it, she slid down to the ground and let her legs splay out in front of her. She was feeling momentously better than she had been not so long ago, and now that she had a much clearer mind, she decided to she could try and figure out what had caused the episode. I can’t come over this unless I know what brought it on in the first place…and in order to do that, I need to think back to what happened. Which means…I just need to know that I can control it. That’s all. Just take it slow, and don’t rush. Her mind shifted as she reconsidered everything that had happened. Her arrival on the floor, her determination that she was going to hunt down the floor boss. The floor boss fight itself. Everything had seemed so…normal. As normal as this game gets, anyway. I mean there was nothing major – nothing that stands out at least. Nothing that should have caused that sort of… She stopped mid thought as she realised that this may have been one of the worst episodes since she’d come to Aincrad, but it was far from the first. She thought back over everything that had happened since their inception and entrapment into the game, about how close she had come so many times, barely stepping back from the proverbial ledge in the earliest days of the game. It had been such a slow build up towards this moment, that Nymoria had almost entirely missed it – the way in which she had gradually reached a full break; a measure of her consciousness that simply couldn’t handle the strain anymore. It’s not one event, it’s all of them coming together. The final breaking point before you go plummeting into the depths of the dark waters. This…this has been building for a long time. I just didn’t notice it. Or, I chose not to notice it…
Nymoria 0 Posted September 9 Author #11 Share Posted September 9 Even if she had wanted to deny it, the images in Nymoria’s mind made it clear to her how long she had been avoiding the actual depressive episode. Time and time again she’d seen the strain on her mind – the continuous loss, of friend and barely known individual, of minor conveniences and things that had been taken for granted in life. Everything that had been taken away once they’d been locked in the game, lost to the real world as they fought for their freedom – a freedom that they weren’t even entirely sure they were guaranteed. Fighting in the hopes that the promise of the madman who had locked us in here was genuine. That his insanity and discourse ended the moment he chose to trap us all. Pretending that it was fine, that it was acceptable to trust him – after he had originally broken that trust. How stupid are we all? How stupid am I? She could feel it reaching out once more, and she pushed back against it as hard as she could. There was a part of her, a familiar part, that just wanted to give in and let it take over. To allow whatever happened afterwards to happen. Haven’t you fought enough already? Isn’t it fair for you to give up, to let others do it for you? Like you always do? Isn’t that easier? She shook her head, clearing the thoughts away even as she screamed back at it, denying everything that it had said. Refusing to let it belittle her accomplishments and work; refusing to give in to it and let it drag her down and away. I won’t let you take over me. Not after everything I’ve gone through! I’ve defeated you once, and I’ll do it again! You’re nothing more than a dark corner, locked in my mind and trapped in here with me. That means I’m in charge. I control you. I control me. There’s nothing you can do, that I don’t let you do. So. Shut. Up! Her head felt empty suddenly, as if she’d scared away whatever had been lingering within it. She knew that it was nothing more than an imaginary feeling, a way for her own mind to realise that she had – in a sense – won this fight. The dark corner within herself would reappear one of these days, lurking on the edges of her subconscious in the hopes of finding her weak, waiting for the moment when it could leap out and strike again. She knew all of that, had been taught it by the various psychotherapists she’d seen and been told by. Not that any of that helped her in the very moment she found herself in. All this information, and none of it will help me survive if I can’t figure out a way to overcome this. I can’t just keep fighting it after it appears…I need to find a way to rid myself of it, or take away any chance it has of taking control of me. A way to stop it… She sighed again, realising what she was asking for, and how impossible it was. She’d spent years overcoming it with professional help – help that was no longer available, as far as she was aware. She knew she wouldn’t be wandering Aincrad in the hopes of finding a therapist – there were likely none here, otherwise they’d already have stepped forward to help those trapped in the world with them. Or they’re here and barely managing to maintain control of themselves, let alone helping others. Either way, it’s not an option. So…I need to find a way to deal with this. Nymoria 0 Posted September 9 Author #12 Share Posted September 9 Maybe…maybe there is something I can do. Wasn’t there… Nymoria opened her menu, scrolling through it as she tried to remember where she’d seen mention of the thought that had popped into her mind. Her fingers glided across the area as they manipulated the digital screen, passing through various settings and configurations, glancing over items, and eventually moving into the various list of quests before she found exactly what she was looking for. It wasn’t an answer, by any means, but as she stared at the text she couldn’t help but wonder if it would at least provide some sort of support for what she was going through – some way to overcome the challenge that was herself. Calming the Soul. Quest focused on overcoming your inner demons. That…sounds like me. Maybe…maybe it’s designed as some sort of pseudo therapy solution for all the broken minds that are in Aincrad? Like a therapist, without being a therapist? She felt herself shrug, uncertain of the answer to the unspoken question. She doubted that it would solve her issues. She couldn’t simply do a quest and overcome every measure of depression that had been a part of her life for as long as she remembered it – and if she could, she knew that there would be a strong marketable measure for it in the real world. But, she could at least take steps towards helping herself become stronger, more resilient. Maybe…maybe that’s what this quest will be good for. Taking the first steps towards facing it, and overcoming it once more. Just like I did in therapy…but more…game like. It wasn’t some miracle answer or cure, she knew that. She wouldn’t have believed it if it had been marketed as one, no matter what the game said. But she knew that it was something else – a life line that was thrown towards her in a moment of need, and one that she would be absolutely stupid to not at least try out. Even if it proved to be little more than another silly quest provided by Cardinal, it might hold the next step towards her facing the darkness within herself, given the chance. Maybe…maybe that’s what I need. A step forward. A plan of action. A way to get from one day to the next…without needing to worry. Without needing to fear…myself. Maybe this…maybe this can give me that? She hated the indecisiveness she heard within her own mind, and found herself gritting her teeth against it. At the very least, she had a plan of action – a plan that was more than simply sitting and whining about what was happening. Alright. We’ll finish up here, and then do that…this quest is going to be important. I need to get it done as soon as I can. But…today is not the day to do it. I just need to focus on finishing here, and resting…tomorrow I’ll get started on Calming the Soul. Nymoria nodded to herself, content with the idea, as much as she could be. She wanted, at least a part of her wanted, to rush forward and begin the quest now – to abandon what she had come here to do in favour of getting started on her possible cure all plan. But she was smart enough to know that was only more dangerous; a good way to burn herself down, rather than build herself up.
Nymoria 0 Posted September 11 Author #13 Share Posted September 11 Her decision made, Nymoria moved back to the present, deciding that she would at the very least focus on bringing down the queen wasp one more time. She knew that the creature should be reappearing shortly – if her timer was correct, that was. Will it appear in the same spot, or do I need to travel a bit to find it though? She bit her lip as she realised she wasn’t certain, a fact that brought an immediate ping of fear into her chest as she fought against the sudden indecisiveness that was building up inside her. She knew it was a dangerous situation, allowing that self-doubt a single moment to appear, to grow and attempt to consume her. She needed to make a decision, to focus on doing something, just to give it as little opportunity to grow and develop as possible. She couldn’t allow it to gain any traction, or it would threaten to take over her again – something that she wasn’t willing to allow it to do, if she could at all avoid it. Alright, try looking around then. She’d managed to drift a small distance from where she’d originally faced the queen wasp, and Nymoria realised that it would be – at the very least – a good place to start, by returning to the original site where she had found the field boss. Even if the queen wasp wasn’t there, it was possible that she would come across it as she made her way back towards the spot, or possibly notice it in the distance and be able to redirect her steps towards its actual position. And I can take my time. There doesn’t seem to be anyone else out here, right now. Which means there’s no one to compete with in order to locate the queen wasp, no one to have to race against. So…take your time. She nodded in response to the voice in her head, knowing it was a voice of reason and not one of self-destruction simply by the change in its tone. Her steps carried her back across the field and around a single grouping of trees that had blocked her sight of the original location she had encountered the queen wasp. It was with a measure of relief that she spotted the thing floating above the same area where she had first encountered it, almost like it had never left. Nymoria grasped her sabre in her hand, considering her choices as she eyed the thing. She had glanced around to ensure that she was still alone – and that no other wasps were in the near vicinity that could be a threat to her in the moment. With no one, or nothing else, in the area, she knew that she could take her time to decide how best to face the queen wasp. The last one had been relatively simple…so long as I manage to stun it, I can slash it away with stronger attacks as I go. I just need to be careful, and mobile. Like I always am. This shouldn’t be an issue…so long as I don’t change up how I fight. And don’t panic. I can do this. She felt the shaky breath leave her as she forced away all the negativity that had been building the last while, trying to clear her mind and focus only on the fight – to push aside all the darkness, and instead become numb to everything that wouldn’t help her in the moment. It was a momentous task, and one that Nymoria knew she couldn’t perfect – but every little bit towards it would help her survive. And I’m going to survive. No matter what. She pushed off from her spot as she thought the words, bringing her sabre up even as she charged across the field towards the queen wasp. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [605/605] | EN [72/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | -11 EN The Wasp Queen | HP: 143/315 | MIT: 20 | DMG: 35 | ACC: 0 | EVA: 1 | Stunned Royal Stinger | On CD 6+, the Queen’s attacks will ignore 50% of the target’s MIT (rounded up). Nymoria 0 Posted September 12 Author #14 Share Posted September 12 The queen wasp had nearly avoided Nymoria’s attack, only a last minute adjustment in her approach allowing her to land the strike which stunned the queen wasp. She’d taken the opportunity to retreat, rather than pressing the attack, in the hopes of placing some distance and allowing herself to prepare more thoroughly for the follow up strike that she was sure would come from the creature, given the opportunity. Her mind had focused entirely on the fight, forgetting the internal conflict that had raged through her not so long ago – her attention drawn away giving her some relief. Before she could settle fully into her defensive stance, the queen wasp had begun to move again. Nymoria bounced backwards once more as the creature launched itself into the ground she had been standing on seconds before – close enough that Nymoria would feel the wind press into her face and exposed skin, a measure of her reaction speed as much as the measure of how nearly she’d been struck by the retaliatory attack. She wasted no further time, deciding in a split second that her best measure of defence would be to press the offence against her opponent, to overwhelm any chance it had to recover and instead focus on destroying it, before it could destroy her. It was a basic tactic, Nymoria knew that somewhere in her mind, but she was also aware that it would work – if she could be faster than the queen wasp. That was her one key to success, her agility and speed in comparison to the creature that she was facing. I’m faster than it is. I know that. All I need to do is get the upper hand. Even as she found herself convincing herself, she’d begun her assault against the creature. Her sabre flashed through the air, colliding with stinger as the wasp suddenly reeled backwards, barely avoiding the attack aimed for its core. Nymoria didn’t hesitate or stop, however, and instead drove forwards after the queen wasp, determined to not let the creature get away. She knew that it was coming down to a moment of decision – she would either overcome her opponent here and now, or she would be driven backwards on the defensive once more – and that meant placing herself into danger, even if it was momentary. Well, then. Don’t give it the opportunity to do that. Bring it down, now. The words were enough to bolster what little energy remained within her, and Nymoria found herself stepping forwards with more and more speed, the blade flashing as it riposted off the creature’s bulk, leaving small marks where it had impacted and offset the wasp, a fact that was becoming more and more apparent in the odd flight pattern it was trying to maintain. Nymoria could almost swear she sensed a measure of concern, fear, or other similar emotion coming from the wasp, but she tucked that away for another time, when she would be able to process it safely. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [605/605] | EN [62/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | +1 EN | -11 EN The Wasp Queen | HP: 0/315 | MIT: 20 | DMG: 35 | ACC: 0 | EVA: 1 | Stun Immunity [1/3] Royal Stinger | On CD 6+, the Queen’s attacks will ignore 50% of the target’s MIT (rounded up). Nymoria 0 Posted September 12 Author #15 Share Posted September 12 Nymoria felt a measure of comfort expelled as she realised that the creature was defeated. The shards which signified its final moments in existence settled towards the ground, leaving behind only a measure of memory that it had once existed, before disappearing entirely. She found herself paused, staring at the shards as she considered how that represented her life, and the lives of all those stuck within the game. She’d considered it all before, but something in that exact moment reminded her of just how simple it would be for them to disappear forever, remembered only by those within the game, and the few beyond who may have carried on their care and oversight. She felt a twitching in her face as she stared at the shards, so lost in the thought that she barely noticed what was happening around her. Is that all we are? Monsters and players, going through the motions of back and forth until there’s nothing but shards left…? And once those shards break apart and disappear into the ground, are they shortly forgotten? Does anyone carry on the memory of those stuck in here, doomed to fight until their dying breath? Does anyone even care…? Nymoria felt she knew the answer, and hated the fact that her mind immediately jumped to the conclusion. If anyone beyond the game cared, they would have found a way to release them by now – to bypass the features of the NerveGear, to release the prisoners trapped in a world that was both their entire fantasy, as well as a prison that help them in a home of horrors, destined to play the odd desire of someone who had created the most immersive torture device in the history of humanity. If they cared… She shook herself fully, trying to brush off the thoughts and feelings before they could take a hold of her entirely. She knew there was nothing to be gained by allowing the dark thoughts to grow and expand; it would only consume her more fully, bringing her back to where she had just escaped from. A place that she had worked so hard to avoid, and yet seemed to continuously try and wrap its twisted claws around her, to drag her back and suffocate her within its murky depths. Nymoria knew she would do anything she could, now, in order to avoid ever returning to that dark corner – even if it meant finding something to live for, whether it be for a specific person, or simple spite against Kayaba for what he had done to her, and all the others within the world of Aincrad. She barely noticed, so lost in thought, as a collection of windwasps suddenly appeared around her. She jerked back into reality as she felt the brush of wind against her cheek, barely pulling back in time to avoid being stung by the large wasp, its entire form rushing past her face as she pulled backwards and swung into a chaînés to bring her back around and facing the creatures that had attempted to surprise her. Nymoria pulled her sabre into a ready position, preparing to fight the creatures even as she glanced around for a measure of better placement. No thought of escape rose to her mind as she suddenly moved towards them, determined to drive them backwards and together, in the hopes of overwhelming the creatures and gaining the advantage in the fight that she had almost lost. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [605/605] | EN [46/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | +1 EN | -17 EN Windwasp 4 | HP: 480/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 5 | HP: 240/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 6 | HP: 225/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 7 | HP: 240/480 | DMG: 120 ID231159 | BD: 1+5=6 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 4>> | Critical Miss | MOB: 2-4=-2 | Miss ID231160 | BD: 8+5=13 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 5>> | Hit: [16x15] = 240 damage | MOB: 6-4=2 | Miss ID231161 | BD: 9+5=14 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 6>> | Minor Critical Hit: [(16+1)x15] = 255 damage | MOB: 8-4=4 | Miss ID231162 | BD: 4+5=9 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 7>> | Hit: [16x15] = 240 damage | MOB: 4-4=0 | Miss Keen Activated [+2 BD next attack] Spoiler Loot Rolls ID229429 | LD: 11 | CD: 10 | 2,520 [1,080+720+720] col, 2 materials, Rare Armor/Shield {1} ID229470 | LD: [6+1] = 7 | CD: 5 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID229477 | LD: [18+1] = 19 | CD: 5 | 2,400 [1,440+960] col, 2 materials, Perfect Armor/Shield {1}, Perfect Trinket {1} ID229478 | LD: [5+1] = 6 | CD: 10 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID230914 | LD: 3 | CD: 6 | 1,800 [1,080+720] col, 2 materials ID231150 | LD: 3 | CD: 2 | 1,800 [1,080+720] col, 2 materials Loot Totals 14,280 col 12 materials Rare Armor/Shield {1} | 229429 Rare Trinket {2} | 229470, 229478 Perfect Armor/Shield {1} | 229477 Perfect Trinket {1} | 229477 Matriarch’s Stinger {2} | (T1/Consumable/Single Use); Increases Multiplier of SA attacks by 1 for the duration of one thread. Nymoria 0 Posted September 12 Author #16 Share Posted September 12 The flow of combat seemed to still anything within herself as Nymoria focused only on the movement of her feet, the sabre in her hand and the riposting of the wasps that had flown to meet her. She let go of everything else in the moment, not considering the darker moments that had taken over her earlier, or the blissful periods of time that she had been enjoying. It felt calming, in a way, the rhythmic movements that were almost dance like in their motion. She’d never enjoyed dancing, at least not in the real world – possibly due to the fact that she’d always been within the depths of silence while engaging in the activity. Missed one. Need to be careful. It’s coming back…there. Her sabre came up and deflected the stinger of the wasp, driving it off to the side and away from her entirely. She ducked as another pair of the creatures attempted to stab her – going right over her head and into the distance. She leaned into a roll as she saw the fourth and final one coming to join the fray, managing to put some distance between herself and the creatures as she figured out what her next approach would be. She didn’t necessarily want to rush headlong into a conflict with the four – she would be easily outnumbered, and although her skills were good, she knew that a single bad step could mean the end of it all for her. No. Better to take time to prepare, so that I don’t make a mistake. Her eyes flitted across the group, looking for any weakness that she could exploit, even as she tried to feint them into a tighter group. Apart, they were dangerous and mobile, but when she drove them in together they became hindered by the bodies of their own companions, incapable of moving away and around as easily – something that Nymoria knew she could use to her own advantage in the fight. If she could only drive them into such a position to begin with. Thankfully they haven’t figured out what I’m trying to do with that…quite yet. Cardinal is smart though, and it passes its intelligence onto these things…at least to a degree. So I can’t waste time waiting for the absolute perfect opportunity. I’ll have to take the best moment I can find, and hope it’s enough. She saw her opening as one of the central creatures bounced off the wasp to its right, causing the pair to falter in their movements. It only lasted long enough for Nymoria to blink, but the disruption was enough to cause their movement and pattern to become erratic as they reacted to the occurrence. Nymoria didn’t wait for them to adjust and recover, stepping to the side and moving in towards the pair as she brought her blade up to meet them. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [484/605] | EN [25/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | +1 EN | -22 EN -121 HP Windwasp 4 | HP: 192/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 5 | HP: 0/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 6 | HP: 0/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 7 | HP: 0/480 | DMG: 120 ID231234 | BD: 3+7=10 | <<AoE-II vs. Windwasp 4>> | Hit: [16x18] = 288 damage | MOB: 9-4=5 | Minor Critical Hit: [120+1] = 121 damage ID231235 | BD: 10+7=17 | <<AoE-II vs. Windwasp 5>> | Major Critical Hit: [(16+1)x18] = 306 damage | Destroyed ID231236 | BD: 5+7=12 | <<AoE-II vs. Windwasp 6>> | Hit: [16x18] = 288 damage | Destroyed ID231237 | BD: 5+7=12 | <<AoE-II vs. Windwasp 7>> | Hit: [16x18] = 288 damage | Destroyed Keen Activated [+2 BD next attack] ID231238 | Loot Windwasp 5 ID231239 | Loot Windwasp 6 ID231240 | Loot Windwasp 7 Spoiler Loot Rolls ID229429 | LD: 11 | CD: 10 | 2,520 [1,080+720+720] col, 2 materials, Rare Armor/Shield {1} ID229470 | LD: [6+1] = 7 | CD: 5 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID229477 | LD: [18+1] = 19 | CD: 5 | 2,400 [1,440+960] col, 2 materials, Perfect Armor/Shield {1}, Perfect Trinket {1} ID229478 | LD: [5+1] = 6 | CD: 10 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID230914 | LD: 3 | CD: 6 | 1,800 [1,080+720] col, 2 materials ID231150 | LD: 3 | CD: 2 | 1,800 [1,080+720] col, 2 materials ID231238 | LD: [5+1] = 6 | CD: 3 | 1,440 col, 4 materials, Uncommon Consumable {1} ID231239 | LD: [2+1] = 3 | CD: 8 | 3,360 [1,440+1,920] col, 2 materials ID231240 | LD: [20+1] = 21 | CD: 2 | 2,400 [1,440+960] col, 2 materials, Perfect Armor/Shield {1}, Perfect Trinket {1} Loot Totals 21,480 col 20 materials Uncommon Consumable {1} | 231238 Rare Armor/Shield {1} | 229429 Rare Trinket {2} | 229470, 229478 Perfect Armor/Shield {2} | 229477, 231240 Perfect Trinket {2} | 229477, 231240 Matriarch’s Stinger {2} | (T1/Consumable/Single Use); Increases Multiplier of SA attacks by 1 for the duration of one thread. Nymoria 0 Posted September 12 Author #17 Share Posted September 12 Three of the four had exploded as Nymoria’s sabre was brought around upon the wasps. The fourth one – the same one that had dodged her original assault and managed to free itself, for the most part, from her follow up attack, had drawn backwards as she’d rushed forwards. She’d managed to catch it with a glancing blow, but it had barely connected with the thing, and although it was pushed backwards by the hit, it had returned with a vengeance that Nymoria hadn’t expected from the creature. She’d barely parried the first attack when the second came, the stinger imbedding itself into her shoulder momentarily before being torn back out and causing her to twitch in a pain response even though there was no pain. She gritted her teeth as she shoved the thing away, using both hands as she tried to force some space between herself and it. I can’t let it do that again. It’s not deadly, but…I need to take this thing down before it becomes more dangerous than it already is. She raised a hand to rub at her shoulder, before remembering there was no point in doing so. The pain she felt was nothing more than a creation within her mind – she’d never received any physical damage, beyond what had happened to her avatar, and yet Nymoria swore it felt like she’d been stabbed in actuality. The more time I spend in this world, the more I adjust to it…it’s almost unsettling, in a way. I mean, it’s not like it’s surprising…the mind will fill in the blanks and all that. But it’s still…something. She realised that she had stopped moving as she’d been thinking, the wasp having taken the chance as soon as it noticed in order to launch itself towards her. Her sabre had come up to parry just in time as the thing stabbed at her again, and she berated herself for not paying better attention. Is this how you fight? You let yourself dream and your mind wander away from the fight? It’s amazing you’ve last this long. I guess it’s really only thanks to all those other players- She stopped the thoughts as she recognised the path they were taking, knowing what it meant. She was so close to the end of the fight, she didn’t need to give in to everything now. Another shift of her feet, and Nymoria lashed outwards with her sabre, deciding that she needed to simply press the attack and finish the fight. She could see the weakening wing beats of the wasp, a sign that it was tiring – or luring her in. Either way, she was going to take advantage of whatever she could in the moment, with the hopes that it would bring her victory in the end. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [484/605] | EN [16/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | +1 EN +33 HP | -10 EN -0 HP Windwasp 4 | HP: 0/480 | DMG: 120 ID231241 | BD: 6+7=13 | <<ST-I vs. Windwasp 4>> | Hit: [16x12] = 192 damage | Destroyed ID231242 | Loot Windwasp 4 Spoiler Loot Rolls ID229429 | LD: 11 | CD: 10 | 2,520 [1,080+720+720] col, 2 materials, Rare Armor/Shield {1} ID229470 | LD: [6+1] = 7 | CD: 5 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID229477 | LD: [18+1] = 19 | CD: 5 | 2,400 [1,440+960] col, 2 materials, Perfect Armor/Shield {1}, Perfect Trinket {1} ID229478 | LD: [5+1] = 6 | CD: 10 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID230914 | LD: 3 | CD: 6 | 1,800 [1,080+720] col, 2 materials ID231150 | LD: 3 | CD: 2 | 1,800 [1,080+720] col, 2 materials ID231238 | LD: [5+1] = 6 | CD: 3 | 1,440 col, 4 materials, Uncommon Consumable {1} ID231239 | LD: [2+1] = 3 | CD: 8 | 3,360 [1,440+1,920] col, 2 materials ID231240 | LD: [20+1] = 21 | CD: 2 | 2,400 [1,440+960] col, 2 materials, Perfect Armor/Shield {1}, Perfect Trinket {1} ID231242 | LD: [20+1] = 21 | CD: 11 | 4,800 [1,440+960+2,400] col, 2 materials, Perfect Trinket {1} Loot Totals 26,280 col 22 materials Uncommon Consumable {1} | 231238 Rare Armor/Shield {1} | 229429 Rare Trinket {2} | 229470, 229478 Perfect Armor/Shield {2} | 229477, 231240 Perfect Trinket {3} | 229477, 231240, 231242 Matriarch’s Stinger {2} | (T1/Consumable/Single Use); Increases Multiplier of SA attacks by 1 for the duration of one thread. Nymoria 0 Posted September 13 Author #18 Share Posted September 13 She wished she could say she relaxed with the dispersion of the final wasp, that she returned to a state of calm and control that would be fitting of an individual who had just survived a deadly encounter again. Yet something in Nymoria was off, and she could feel it. Some nerve within the back of her mind that seemed determined to leave her unsettled, just slightly and yet more than enough to be noticed. She swayed on the spot, feeling the exhaustion of it all – the fight that had drained her, as well as the emotional and mental turmoil that she still felt draining her, even in this moment. Still so weak…and you thought you were what, getting stronger? Getting better? Nymoria felt herself hit the ground as her feet gave out beneath her. The exertion of everything had taken its toll, and she felt like she was going to faint shortly if she didn’t lay herself down. Carefully, she slid over to a nearby group of trees, leaning against one as she let the weight of her body take over, her arms falling to her side even as her head dropped slightly. Why am I so tired? I mean the fight wasn’t that hard…I’ve had worse, haven’t I? The response came almost instantly, covered in a layer of snarl that bespoke to the origins of the words. Why do you think you’re so tired? Did you really think you could do this all on your own? Facing down field bosses? Facing down groups of random creatures? What, you? You, who relies on everyone else for everything in life? You, who hasn’t accomplished a single. Thing. By. Yourself. You’re pathetic. You know that, this is just reality showing it to you. She wanted to scream out, to deny the accusations. To prove her worth and everything she’d accomplished, but the exhaustion seemed to overtake her. To draw her further and further down. She knew, as well as she knew her own name, that it was nothing more than the depression taking over, the feeling of helplessness as it swarmed upwards and covered over her. Yet there was nothing she could do in the moment. It’s just like before. Just like last time. You know this is what you really deserve. Why do you bother trying to fight it? Trying to resist what is right? Just give in to it…let it consume you. Nymoria sank into the tree more, her entire body giving way as she felt the argument in her head growing to a climax, or rather to an absolute bottom depth. She could feel herself giving up, letting it take over even as she thought about fighting it. There was no point to it, however. She knew that. Knew that there was no real point to any of it. It would be easier to simply give in, and let it take over her; let it control the future as she did nothing more than watch. It would be so much simpler for her, so much easier…
Nymoria 0 Posted September 13 Author #19 Share Posted September 13 Nymoria? What are you doing? The sound of the voice shook her from whatever delirium she’d been about to enter. It had been so long since she’d heard her sisters voice, the words calling back to her, reminding her of a moment that she’d nearly forgotten. The only reason she had heard them, at the time, was due to pure coincidence – but a coincidence that had saved her life. Now, she couldn’t help but feel that same pull back to life as the words of her sister reached her once more in her darkest moments. Her heart raced as she realised she’d jolted upright in response to the words in her mind. A burst of adrenaline coursing through her, giving her the energy she needed to suddenly fight against the overwhelming darkness that had spread through her and seemed determined to corrupt her. To bring her down to its depths in the hopes of…what? Drowning her? Submersing her so that another could take over? Nymoria didn’t know, but she decided that she wouldn’t allow it to happen. They’re waiting for me, and I won’t be the one to cause them more pain and suffering. To learn that I didn’t fight – or worse, to never learn that I did fight. I won’t give in to it, not now…not ever. I can’t. I owe them that much. She’d gotten to her feet even as she’d denied the darkness within herself. Something about the movement had concreted in her desire to live, to continue fighting. No thoughts of questioning it passed through Nymoria’s mind as she leapt on the opportunity instead, pushing herself into movement and glancing around the area. She could see a collection of nearby wasps, hovering off in the distance. She knew that it would be a bad idea, but there was nothing else for her to do other than to return to her inn room – which she wasn’t ready for, yet. The least I can do is make this trip out here worthwhile…besides, the queen wasp should reappear soon. And then I can look at getting another of those drops, at least. That would really help the frontlines. She felt a wave of negativity rolling towards her, and quashed it before it could form anything more than a feeling within her mind. She wanted to hold onto whatever positivity she’d managed to gain in the moment, the energy that had been drawn from the sound of her sister’s voice. If for no other reason, I will survive this game. For Akane.
Nymoria 0 Posted September 13 Author #20 Share Posted September 13 She’d waited long enough for her energy to refill, and her health to return to normal before she’d considered moving away from the spot she had been rooted in. As much as she could feel the pull and draw to leap into motion, her time in Aincrad had taught her the benefit of patience and carefulness. As well as the danger of running into situations unprepared, and the effect that could have on one’s ability and chances of survival. It’s better to let it all return fully, before rushing in and being in a bad, desperate position. Although I’ve got a teleportation crystal…I’d rather not use that, unless I really have to use it. They’re expensive, and not worth burning through. Not if I can avoid it by being smart. The moment that the two bars at the top of her heads up display had reached their maximum position, Nymoria had moved. She wove through the trees and drifted off into a position slightly distant from where she’d last faced the queen wasp. Although she hadn’t expected it to respawn exactly where it had been, she also didn’t want it to appear when she was facing other things – a true recipe for disaster if one existed. There would be no benefit in having to bring down a collection of wasps, as well as their queen. There. I can take those ones, and then figure out what to do next. There’s not too many of them, so this shouldn’t be too hard…and there’s no other nearby pack, so – wait, are a group of wasps called a pack? She almost laughed as the thought passed through her mind, the sheer oddness of it breaking the tension that had been building within herself. Shaking her head in response, pushing it away to consider at a later time when it was less likely to be a distraction, she refocused on the group. They had drifted slightly closer to Nymoria’s position, and she spotted an opportunity to intercept them in a way that would bring them even further from any other nearby groups. Her feet carried her across the ground, her sabre in hand as she circled slightly to give herself a birth of the group. She didn’t want to drag them in before she was ready, and used the area in order to swing wide – well outside of their zone of influence – until she was ready to charge in. The shift in direction was casual, but as she turned to face them fully she pushed herself into a sudden charge, her feet stepping lightly even as she powered forwards with a speed and agility that would leave the wasps – most likely – shocked by her approach. ---- Combat Nymoria | Lv. 30 | P. 0 | HP [484/605] | EN [64/83] | ACC [5] | DMG [16] | EVA [4] | BH [+33] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+2 BD] | LD [+1] | +0 EN +0 HP | -19 EN -121 HP Windwasp 8 | HP: 189/480 | DMG: 120 | Bleed [36 | 1/2] Windwasp 9 | HP: 240/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 10 | HP: 240/480 | DMG: 120 Windwasp 11 | HP: 240/480 | DMG: 120 ID231322 | BD: 9+5=14 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 8>> | Hit: [(16+1)x15] = 255 damage | Bleed [36 | 1/2] | MOB: 4-4=0 | Miss ID231323 | BD: 5+5=10 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 9>> | Hit: [16x15] = 240 damage | MOB: 6-4=2 | Miss ID231324 | BD: 6+5=11 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 10>> | Hit: [16x15] = 240 damage | MOB: 6-4=2 | Miss ID231325 | BD: 4+5=9 | <<AoE-I vs. Windwasp 11>> | Hit: [16x15] = 240 damage | MOB: 9-4=5 | Minor Critical Hit: [120+1] = 121 damage Keen Activated [+2 BD on next attack] Spoiler Loot Rolls ID229429 | LD: 11 | CD: 10 | 2,520 [1,080+720+720] col, 2 materials, Rare Armor/Shield {1} ID229470 | LD: [6+1] = 7 | CD: 5 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID229477 | LD: [18+1] = 19 | CD: 5 | 2,400 [1,440+960] col, 2 materials, Perfect Armor/Shield {1}, Perfect Trinket {1} ID229478 | LD: [5+1] = 6 | CD: 10 | 2,880 [1,440+960+480] col, 2 materials, Rare Trinket {1} ID230914 | LD: 3 | CD: 6 | 1,800 [1,080+720] col, 2 materials ID231150 | LD: 3 | CD: 2 | 1,800 [1,080+720] col, 2 materials ID231238 | LD: [5+1] = 6 | CD: 3 | 1,440 col, 4 materials, Uncommon Consumable {1} ID231239 | LD: [2+1] = 3 | CD: 8 | 3,360 [1,440+1,920] col, 2 materials ID231240 | LD: [20+1] = 21 | CD: 2 | 2,400 [1,440+960] col, 2 materials, Perfect Armor/Shield {1}, Perfect Trinket {1} ID231242 | LD: [20+1] = 21 | CD: 11 | 4,800 [1,440+960+2,400] col, 2 materials, Perfect Trinket {1} Loot Totals 26,280 col 22 materials Uncommon Consumable {1} | 231238 Rare Armor/Shield {1} | 229429 Rare Trinket {2} | 229470, 229478 Perfect Armor/Shield {2} | 229477, 231240 Perfect Trinket {3} | 229477, 231240, 231242 Matriarch’s Stinger {2} | (T1/Consumable/Single Use); Increases Multiplier of SA attacks by 1 for the duration of one thread.
