How are you not excited‽" - Nadeo Profile: Username: Nadeo Real name: Natalie Rae Age: 21 Gender: Female Height: 4'11" Background: Natalie Rae's life was marked by loss and resilience from an early age. Her parents, both environmental scientists, died in a tragic accident during a research expedition when she was only five years old. With no immediate family to take her in, Natalie entered the foster care system. Despite the challenges of moving between homes, she found solace and stability in the world of computers and coding. Growing up, Natalie's exceptional intelligence and drive caught the attention of her teachers. They encouraged her to apply for scholarships, and her hard work paid off when she secured a full ride to a prestigious university at the age of 17. Natalie threw herself into her studies, majoring in computer science with a focus on virtual reality technologies. She graduated two years early, at 20, with top honors. After graduation, Natalie quickly established herself as a talented software developer, landing a job at a cutting-edge tech company. Her work ethic and brilliant mind led to rapid promotions, but also resulted in a poor work-life balance. Coding wasn't just her job; it was her passion and escape. She often spent her free time working on personal projects or participating in online forums dedicated to the bending of technology to her will. When rumors of Sword Art Online began circulating, Natalie was immediately captivated. She became a well-known moderator on a popular forum dedicated to theorizing about the game's mechanics and potential gameplay. Her insightful posts and deep technical knowledge caught the attention of other members, including some with connections to the game's development team. Thanks to her reputation in the SAO community and her professional credentials, Natalie was offered a spot as one of the 10,000 player to join at the game's launch. Excited by the opportunity to be at the forefront of this revolutionary technology, she eagerly accepted, not knowing the trap that awaited her and the other players. Once trapped in SAO, Natalie's initial reaction was one of fascination mixed with horror. As the reality of their situation set in, she retreated from the front lines, prioritizing her survival. She spent most of her time in safe zones, meticulously observing and documenting the game's behavior, trying to understand its underlying systems. For months, Natalie pored over her notes, attempting to reverse-engineer the game's code from within. She hoped to find a backdoor or exploit that could free the trapped players. However, the complexity of the system was far beyond anything she had encountered before. The whole system was so advanced that even with her expertise, Natalie found herself hitting wall after wall in her investigations. After nearly two years of careful study and minimal risk-taking, Natalie has come to a difficult realization: she won't be able to unravel SAO's secrets without venturing into more dangerous territories and actively engaging with the game's challenges. This has left her at a crossroads, forcing her to confront her fears and decide whether to continue playing it safe or to take the risks necessary to potentially save herself and the other trapped players. Virtues Neurodivergent - Comes at problems from a different direction offering insight that others. The hyper-focus was also especially useful on the outside, but could come in handy in the game occasionally. Then of course there are the special interests leading her to a deep understand of a few rather disparate topics. "Big halberd - ♥ My beloved ♥ " - Nadeo Book Smarts - Her months spent researching the simulation were not completely fruitless. She didn't find any game breaking exploits to easily escape, but she does understand the systems that make up the game about as well as one can from inside. This helps her invent interesting strategies that take advantage of the differences between reality and the game. Resilient - Life is hard and she has been hit pretty squarely by it a few times now. She has a way of dealing with difficult times that only leaves her more able to deal than usual. She has and will continue to rise to the challenges put before her. Don't let her stature fool you; she is hard as diamond under the surface. Flaws Neurodivergent - Has some difficulty conveying what she means or can be easily misconstrued. There is also the unexplainable aversion to normal things. It occasionally makes life more difficult in ways that are nearly inscrutable from outside her mind. Lack of Street Smarts - She may have had a few rough months in childhood, but she was lucky to find somewhere she could be the shut in little nerd she wanted to be. While that did well for her outside, it has left her with a distinct lack of tact in unfamiliar scenarios. If things had ended up differently this would be a risk free place to gain those interpersonal interactions, but as it is, the risk is far too real for her liking. Risk Aversion - While she can absolutely withstand tough times, she feels that she has had enough of them and will rarely intentionally put herself in a position she is not heavily prepared for. While this has gotten her pretty far temporally, levels don't come from not doing stuff. She is only barely managing to get started on her journey because she knows her friends have her back.
