Shay 0 Posted September 9 #2 Share Posted September 9 (edited) Crimson eyes scanned the streets of Yokan, Shay was on the prowl yet again. Everything in her left felt meaningless at this point so she was looking for that challenge or thrill that could spike her back to something she felt before. Though, deep wounds heal slow. Titan and ChaseR were gone in one way or another and she was left with absolutely nothing but herself. The ache in her heart was numb at this point. Ending it? A cowards death. Staying 'positive'? The simple thought made her want to dry heave at its utterance. Brood? Hell she barely felt anything from that either. So, the only thing left was to throw herself at everything and one day die trying to find herself again. It was that or bulldoze her way through with the frontlines until she's back to the real world. Lost in thought, the assassin would find herself bumping into a slightly taller player than herself, quite literally. "Watch it-" Shay caught herself before she blurted out something hurtful. If she could still understand the thought of romance or love, she might have even found the player rather cute. The woman beside her on the other hand was one she recognized as the quest giver she was looking for. The pianist would bow slightly to Mishiro and sigh, almost in a irritated and condescending tone. She wasn't going to wait until the quest giver was free. "I see you're doing the quest. If I could join you that would be..." An irate growl would lace her words. The woman choked up for a moment before spitting it out. "...Nice." Mishiro 0 Posted September 10 Author #3 Share Posted September 10 (edited) "watch it--" oh, this one is real. "i'm sorry," she turns in the direction of the voice and quickly apologizes, but as her sights land on a sharp-eyed woman, so does the other take notice of the hooded individual who had stopped her. recognition flashes through the stranger's face, then returns her displeasure as she turns to her and forces out courtesies as though at knife point. a party request. the hooded individual is silent throughout the interruption. (and if she had recognized it with a single glance, then nothing was really wrong, was it...?) she nods her assent after some thought, her expression unchanged. first impressions aside, it isn't fair to trouble the other player to return another time for the few seconds that she had found the npc first. "alright. let's go together." "both of you, then," the entity interjects in a light voice. it rearranges itself to now include the second player in the conversation. "i'd be willing to provide you with that information for a price. let's say..." a gloved hand raises to level with its collar, two of its fingers pointed upwards. encircling its wrist is a silver bangle with a woven design. "twenty-five percent of the bounty. i guarantee you would not find your mark without my help." (this is unavoidable.) “fine with me. now, can you tell us?” "the guardian never leaves its throne. look for a grotto to the west of yogan where you'll find a pair of iron gates. and be ready for a fight: they're guarded." a status window appears in front of the two, displaying an accepted quest from a [mysterious broker] without their input. she closes it. "noted, thank you." but the quest in her progress log was all she needed. she starts to move past the entity, preparing to signal her quest partner to follow, when a question suddenly catches against the back of her mind. something about the events of the past minute or so, invisible like rot beneath floorboards. she struggles to define it, but the wrongness roots her to the ground, persistent, with the subject right in front of her eyes. "will you be coming with us?" she tries. "how will you know when we've killed it?" "i'll know." it bids them farewell with a little wave and slinks back into the crowds. still clueless, she turns to her quest partner, quickly going through her terminal to send a party request. Shay 0 Posted September 10 #4 Share Posted September 10 (edited) With her heart on her shoulder - looking quite ugly - Shay begrudgingly asked to join the party for this quest. She didn't need help, she didn't really even want help if it was necessary, but if there was a chance that the NPC was unreachable when someone had the quest annoyed her since she was already present. To be clear, she had no disdain for the woman she was now partying with. The simple thought of social interaction troubled her deeply, however. "twenty-five percent of the bounty. i guarantee you would not find your mark without my help." The broker would practically demand a share from the two despite only telling them the location, expressing that the two would not be able to find it without her help. Shay's brow sharpened in response. The rewards were less worthwhile than anything she could possibly imagine. The attitude of how much she thought she could contribute with only the location was what bothered her. They were nothing but programming though so she attempted to reel in the bad mood before she scared away the quest partner she'd been graced with. Maybe they weren't so bad. The broker would then tell them that, despite not coming along, she would know when they killed the boss. Shay bet both her swords that was a fucking lie. They would be being trailed by this NPC the entire time. The assassin sighed in slight annoyance and just accepted it, closing the quest acceptance window in front of her. "ready to head out?" Mishiro asked catching the gaze of crimson pupils. "Yeah." A short moment of silence would wash over the two as they started walking. The assassin wondered if she should just try to keep her mouth shut before she made her first impression worse but ultimately landed on only on thing to say. "Shay." She would offer her name even though it was clearly visible in the party list. Edited September 10 by Shay
Mishiro 0 Posted September 16 Author #5 Share Posted September 16 (edited) the walk from the markets to the grotto is short. painless, unlike the cerberus quests. the two players make decent progress within the brief time that neither of them speaks; they had both met their match, it seems, in their equally quick pace and their mutual quiet. she's used it, the silence. she usually provides it herself. for most of her life, she has tended to drift towards companions who love to chatter and simply find themselves in need of a patient and attentive listener. she isn't inclined towards small talk with strangers, especially not in the middle of a quick errand, and she only does it to the extent of being polite. it doesn't bother her that her current partner's inclinations lean the same. so, in this scenario, it could only ever have been the other way around. "shay," her companion suddenly says. short, clipped, and the name has long been visible at the far edge of her sights. they had skipped introductions, but she had once sailed through a quest without them. not that she won't return what's offered to her. she responds with her own name. then the conversation, if she could even call it that, lapses back into silence. she turns the brief exchange over in her head, considering another possibility. their current task is a better start. "i hope you're alright with taking the deal," she says. "i was reading up on the quest earlier, and apparently, the broker always asks for a cut. the simpler fights and the experience are what make up most of this quest's worth." Shay 0 Posted September 17 #6 Share Posted September 17 The silence was preferred by her questing partner as well, thankfully. Shay did not like small talk or anything of the sort. The exchanging of names was merely a formality to make sure Mishiro didn’t think she was an absolute asshole or something, even though most of the time she can be. She did return the introduction with her own name, which was nice. The silence quick fell back over them. Shay wracked her brain a bit, wondering if she should say beyond that or maybe it was better that she didn’t. Mishiro’s interruption of her thoughts woke her up though. “Ah, well, I don’t really care about that nonsense.” Shay will plainly respond. “The experience is usually the only thing that matters in these quests anyways. Even if we got the full cut, I wouldn’t care if you’d decided you wanted all of it.” Finally a sentence from mouth that didn’t make it sound like she was being held at gunpoint to speak. Mishiro 0 Posted September 19 Author #7 Share Posted September 19 (edited) "i feel the same in that sense, other than the crystal. someone's expecting it from me. let's keep it an even split." their journey continues. yogan's gates pass them, then the steps leading down to the combat zone. without stopping or slowing down, she transfers her weapon to an equipment slot through her terminal and a gust of strangely cool air rushes between her and her pair as her violin-blade and parrying dagger appear in their sheaths. she brushes her fingers against walpurgisnacht's strings, soundless. centering herself. they avoid the maze of lava pools entirely, keeping close to yogan's outer walls on their route west. then the grotto is before her. it is shallow, but protected from the elements, the double iron doors visible from where they stand beneath its lip. she spots two suits of armor standing completely still with their gauntlets resting on the pommels of their greatswords. (...two?) they are silent in their idleness, mechanical, long dead ghosts in service to a long dead lord. once she and shay kill them all, they will simply reanimate themselves and cause havoc all over again. she has never cared about the implications. the player steps forward, and the knights immediately raise their blades. "the one on the left is mine," she calls out to shay. she doesn't wait for a response. if shay can't handle her own, she can simply circle back and help her. numerically, fermata tells her she has the advantage. it's just a practice of letting herself fall into the motions -- of rushing her selected knight and piercing through its armor with a single blow. -> combat: st-i vs iron knight #1 [1/2 iron knights slain] Spoiler POST ACTION: ST-I vs Iron Knight #1 [14 - 2 = 12 EN] 232248: BD 6: (19 + 6) * 15 = 375 DMG -> Iron Knight #1 Mishiro | HP: 460/460 | EN: 52/64 | DMG: 19 | MIT: 36 | ACC: 4 | AA | EVA: 1 | FLN: 6 (6-8) | VO: 10% Shay | HP: 700/700 | EN: 84/84 | DMG: 13 | MIT:20 | ACC:5 | EVA:3 | BH: 35 | BLD: 48 Iron Knight #1 | HP: 0/250 | DMG: 100 | THORNS: 24 | BLD: 24 Iron Knight #2 | HP: 250/250 | DMG: 100 | THORNS: 24 | BLD: 24 Edited September 20 by Mishiro
Shay 0 Posted September 23 #8 Share Posted September 23 (edited) Normally she would activate stealth about now just to avoid having to talk with anybody she was questing with but Mishiro had yet to do anything that annoyed her. Granted she got annoyed at just about anything said to her for no reason given, but it was a pretty pleasant change of pace. That and these mobs would barely be able to stand up to Yatsufusa’s raw power. Mishiro would express her friend’s desire to get a crystal from this quest. Shay simply shrugged to that. “By all means it’s yours. I just want the experience.” Shay will explain. The two of them seemed as though they would be having no problems with the other. But if her annoyance wasn’t flared up yet it eventually had to come from somewhere. Shay 0 Posted October 5 #10 Share Posted October 5 (edited) Having a reliable partner was nice but being useless herself was even worse. Mishiro was able to finish off her target without much problem. Shay would sheathe her weapon and wave it off as a small annoyance. The experience was the only thing that mattered to her in the long run and it wasn't like she would have much problem doing this solo anyway. Her partner would assure her that she would be following just behind, so Shay would approach the throne room and enter with least possible grace. The two would be greeted with the Iron Guardian himself. "Let's hope I don't miss twice." Shay would comment before rushing forward, removing her second sword from it's saya. With a wide step and a upward slice her blade cleared the iron suit it wore leaving a massive gash across its chest. Shay would notice her HP tick down slightly from the thorns. Mishiro 0 Posted October 8 Author #11 Share Posted October 8 (edited) her rapier slams into the armor, a downwards cut intersecting with the damage left from shay's attack. she is, briefly, weightless: hollow inside, the guardian melts, its plating split in a cross, and with nothing to hold her upward, she lands less than gracefully before the carved throne. she doesn't sheathe her sword. "take the final hit bonus if there is one," shay called, "i don't care." she'll take it -- the [crystal of support] is on the right arm of the throne, split into perfect halves for the two who had slain the guardian. she's almost ankle-deep in useless scraps of plundered treasure. she reaches for the crystal. a hand covered in a glove hovers beneath hers. the tips of her fingers brush against narrow, thin-boned knuckles. she jolts backwards, shocked, and the mysterious broker snatches both halves, closing its palm over them as though coveting the air of the stones' jadeite glow. "give those back," she says. "i'm taking my twenty-five percent," she says. she suddenly feels cold. Shay 0 Posted October 13 #12 Share Posted October 13 (edited) Shay was ready to leave, allowing Mishiro to collect the crystal that sat upon the throne of the Iron Guardian. She would turn to make her way out of the complex before hearing the conversation between the broker and Mishiro. By the time she'd caught up to what was happening, her partner had been stabbed and paralyzed. Shay quickly intervened charging in just as they taunted her. The dark haired woman's sword would be parried away as she reached in. The tip of the rapier missed just slightly when she leaned back from it's stab. Steel screeched as the two blades opposed each other and Shay's head thudded against the broker's. A quick follow up slice would land, reducing their HP rather heavily. The purple sizzle of Yatsufusa glazed against the red gash of system damage. Shay would then put herself between the NPC and Mishiro. "If we're taking turns, just know that I don't play fair. Shay hadn’t been pressured this heavily by an enemy in the game for a very long time, especially since ChaseR had been around. That was the last thing she wanted in her mind during a fight though.
