Acanthus 0 Posted September 29 Author #21 Share Posted September 29 As Pinball rowed them back to shore, Acanthus fought for the courage to say something. Anything. The problem was that she didn’t even know what she wanted to say. Did she want to ask questions? Chastise him? Break ties entirely? Pinball had killed somebody. Four people, actually. Belial. Kirbs. Roulette. Sugutsuya. The names softly crept back into her mind. She looked up to Pinball, rowing with a dour intensity. It was clear he didn’t enjoy questions. Suddenly, she worried that pressing the matter would disintegrate whatever friendship they had built up over the last few quests. Acanthus almost laughed at her revelation. Sharing the boat with a serial PKer, and her foremost worry was that she didn’t want to stop being his friend. With a lurch, the boat thumped into the dock, and Acanthus was startled out of her reverie. She’d made a decision. Acanthus stepped out of the boat to tie the dinghy down for the next person intent on replicating their miserable experience. Hopefully with one less fish to fight. “Pinball,” her eyes focused on the task of tying down the boat. “I don’t like talking. And you seem to avoid it too.” She took a moment to tie a knot. “I know you’ve had a terrible time in this game. I don’t think that makes you a terrible person.” She was trying to keep her comments vague, for fear of prompting a full conversation. “If you ever feel like talking, you know where my shop is. I’ll have a house soon… and I’ll make sure it’s accessible to P—orange players. I’ll send the location once I buy it.” She stood up to offer him a hand out of the boat. (Or a handshake if he’d already exited—and was still present.) She’d started this quest ready to fish the answers out of Pinball. In the end, she’d decided to throw the rod overboard. The answers would happen in their own time, not squeezed out of a captive party member. They would either be shared friend to friend, or not at all.
