[F24-OP] Something rotten, must be Denmark <<Floor 28 Pre-Raid Meeting>>>

Recommended Posts

Holding a raid prep meeting with a wedding backdrop wasn't exactly standard, but what did that even mean anymore?  Still fully frocked, wearing a sleek black cassock he hadn't pulled from inventory since his first tier days, Freyd looked as he had in his earliest adventuring.  If he was lucky, no one would even recognize his old duds.  Officiating for Wulfrin and KnightessCiela had been unexpected, especially with the added duties of sharing what he, Morningstar, Mina and Hirru had encountered in the Fire Woods.  The labyrinth guardian has been felled, long may his antlers reign. Frontliners had been notified of the meeting.  Those he didn't know personally would be reached through proxies.  Word could be spread easily enough, but would enough answer the call?  Doubts festered, just like their destination.

"Will we have enough tanks and healers?"  Persi, his mischievous shadow mongoose was too busy eying the hors d'oeuvres catered by Quaestor, splendidly laid out on the far site of the pavilion, with Miri in attendance.  She's pilfered half the snacks from the last raid meeting while no one was looking and looked eager for a rematch.  The cook's firecracker wife provided sharp wit and ample mood, strumming on a small lute to distinguish the atmosphere from the nearby nuptials.  Her lowcut blouse left little to the imagination, or fostered it, depending on your perspective.

It hadn't taken much effort to realize that the two crowds might differ in complement.  Assorted delicacies conveyed the cook's facility with sea fare, ranging in origin from all parts of the Pacific, along with a few Aincrad-inspire recipes.  Half or more were snacks and desserts, laden in cheese or sugar, or both, enough to wire anyone for at least a good hour.  It might be all they needed.

"No cowl," Quaestor joked, getting in one last quip before retiring to the kitchen, his ginger-haired bulk barely contained in his oversized blue and white apron.  Somehow, his simple grey tuque never failed him.

"No, not today," came the whispered reply aimed at the speaker's insubordinate shadow.  "What do you call a big boy cowl, anyway?  Should I go with a mitre to fit the outfit?  That one might even piss off Cardinal."  The very thought seemed to brighten his mood, if not the void peering back.  Better to start the evening on the right note.  Their topic wouldn't be quite so jovial.

It was humorous how quickly Star could go from an I-just-rolled-out-of-bed look to a full on red carpet look, and even funnier how comfortable he was switching back to leisure mode. For the wedding, he'd prepared his best suit and his favorite tie, but for the raid meeting he'd opted for something a little easier to wear. He loved Wulfrin, but the wedding's dress code and location didn't exactly work well together. Raitoboru Bay, he knew from experience, was too hot for much more than a swimsuit. Not wanting to shock the frontlines with the result of his regimented workouts, however, Star decided to wear clothes. A linen button down, five inch shorts, and his prized sandals. Browns were in, he guessed.

The food spread was almost more exciting than the thought of another floor cleared. He made a sneaky jab for the table, stealing up an unidentifiable cookie. "What's on the agenda?" Star asked, nodding to Freyd and Quaestor (he wasn't sure he had met the latter).

He half-expected Mina and Hirru to be around as well, considering they had all killed the labyrinth guardian together. He seemed to be the first of them to make it over, though. Any minute now, he thought, and the rest of the wedding party would wander their way.

The wedding festivities coming to a close, Wulfrin swapped from the uptight garb of tux to a more relaxed floral shirt and khaki shorts. seemingly exhausted from the day, Wulfrin made his way to where Freyd and Morningstar had started to congregate.

"Looks like things are starting to wind down form the first festivity of the day," Wulfrin said with an exasperated sigh. "What's the plan for part dos of our day of multi tasking?"

He started putting together a small plate of goodies as he nodded a thanks to Questor, a player he hadn't met before, at least not that he could recall. That was a neat little side effect of the plan for the raid meeting; it served as a nice way for Wulfrin to meet some new faces and possibly expand his rather short friends list.

"What kind of info you got?" Wulfrin said between bites. "I'd like to be as prepared as I can be for this raid. I don't want to up and die shortly after getting married, so any extra laast minute tips would be super clutch right about now."

koga_stats_100x100.jpg.0a6c3a66700dedb776e206efdc0c202e.jpg

Looking around, Koga was glad that he wasn't the only one who'd dressed down a little for the wedding. That wasn't to say he'd gone full sandals, shorts and no shirt, but he'd instead opted for some light blue pants, made of a rather light material, and a beige linen shirt. Very beachy, even with the more formal shoes he wore. As Masato, Koga had lived in enough places to know that he did not want to wear a full suit on the beach. Forget ruining the outfit, the humidity would kill him.

All in all, it had been a slightly strange affair for him. Namely because he had never met the couple before, but their offer to host the raid meeting at the reception had meant that Koga had crafted a shield for them. Not a real piece of armor, but rather something for them to hang on the wall of their home. White, with gold trim and engravings. Nothing too tacky. The man might've been sentimental, but he still had some taste. And his dignity.

The wedding went by, with all the joy that one might imagine. Freyd officiated, which nearly sent Koga straight into the afterlife, as the poor guy would have never imagined such a thing happening, but he'd survived long enough to clap and cheer with everyone else. Joy such as this was never a bad thing, especially not in Aincrad.

Soon enough, everyone began to filter towards the raid meeting, or the actual reception. Koga lingered behind the others for just a moment to nudge Kasumi in the side with his elbow before he departed. "I'll see you later then, yeah?" he asked with a hopeful note in his voice, despite Kasumi having never said otherwise before. Not even when Koga has asked if she wanted to walk to the wedding with him. Kasumi gave her usual farewell, and affirmation, but instead of leaving, Koga lingered for just a moment, one corner of his lip tugged back as he seemed to ponder something. He must've come to some kind of a decision in the next couple moments, most likely 'fuck it', because he suddenly stepped closer to the girl and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek.

As anyone who knew Kasumi might've expected, she turned beet red. "We can spar more when you get home," she said, somehow managing to keep her composure, despite the deep flush on her face. "I'll buy some ingredients to make curry."
"It's a date then," Koga winked with a cocky grin, pleased as punch that he hadn't ended up laid out on the floor. "See you after the meeting."

He waved good-bye as he joined the paltry crowd going towards the meeting.

It wasn't until he waved at Freyd, Morningstar, the happy groom, and another unknown player that he was struck with an echo in his head. 'We can spar more when you get home.'

Koga cleared his throat before properly greeting the others. "Congrats, man!" he said, clapping Wulfrin on the shoulder and giving him a broad smile. "I'm happy for you guys. Thanks for hosting the meeting as well, I feel bad breaking up the festivities for this."

89b54cf515e9ad14cfde8208d6b1c410.thumb.jpeg.d3eb05b49d5b4439cb2f5a6dff66b781.jpegThe paladin hurried with the speed that could match a cheetah. Night had told her the raid meeting would be today and since she had been out for a few floors she wanted to comeback stronger than ever. Her sword-wielding companion had neglected to tell her just until now that there was a wedding at the same time?! She didn’t even know what the theme was! Something about Freyd being too official or something??? Did she mean cool? Was that some new slang?

Nevertheless, she would have to choose something formal and didn’t have time to guess much about what the theme would be so she donned her plain white kimono and prayed she wouldn’t be scolded by the bride and groom for her best option. They arrived just as the ceremony was ending it had seemed. She took too long getting ready perhaps, at least she’d gotten to see them walk the aisle and all that jazz.

Food would then be served and Yuki would absolutely partake. Of course, nothing tasted as good as her food(she was empowered by the rare material she’d found and cooked for night) but it was great too. As they were idly chatting, her and NIGHT, she would look to her friend and ask, “So what does ‘official’ mean? Is that new age slang or something?

That’s when she would overhear the groom talking about dying just days before his wedding, to which the paladin will feel obliged to jump in. “What kind of things are you worrying about on your wedding day?! Stick behind me and my shield will keep all safe! That’s what a tanks job is after all!

After the ceremony Katoka had slipped away into a nearby bathroom to change. While she loved the dress she wore, black and red were not the best colors to be wearing while at the beach. Plus, she wanted to check to be sure her face wasn't too puffy from crying too much. After a few minutes she emerged from the small building in a pair of shorts, a tank top, and a light tropical button up that was left unbuttoned and simply tied just above her stomach. She scanned the sands in search of where she wanted to hang out when she noticed a small group of people forming around Freyd and Wulfrin. Feeling this group had a bit more urgency, she rushed over to join the conversation, her sandals clip clopping as she approached.

"The ceremony was beautiful," she clapped Wulfrin on the shoulder, giving him a grin before turning to Freyd, "And you did good too. I was waiting to see if you bit your tongue or fumbled over your words." the samurai laughed before turning to the others. She nodded to Morningstar and turned to the others, she had met Koga in passing at the last raid but they hadn't really talked much. "Hi there, name's Katoka, you can also call me Kat. Nice to meet you both."

Ariel moved gracefully through the crowd, her elegant attire catching the eyes of a few passersby. She wore a deep blue furisode made of fine silk, the flowing sleeves adorned with intricate embroidery of cranes and cherry blossoms. The gold and silver obi at her waist, tied in a flawless knot, was a reflection of her meticulous craftsmanship. As a skilled tailor, she had designed and created the entire outfit herself for this formal occasion, ensuring every detail was perfect. Her blonde hair was neatly pinned up, a jade hairpin adding a final, personal touch to the ensemble. The soft click of her wooden geta accompanied her as she walked, taking in the lively atmosphere around her.

Noticing a familiar face in the crowd so far, Ariel waved gently at Yuki, offering her a friendly smile. The paladin’s presence was comforting, as was the sight of other key players gathered for what seemed to be the long-awaited raid meeting? wedding reception? both? Word through the grapevine was that the scouting team had found the next floor boss room after her recent retreat, and naturally, Ariel was eager to attend so that she could get first hand intel. She never would have guessed that it would be held alongside such a celebratory atmosphere. Her silver eyes scanned the area, looking for someone to confirm through an announcement or a more subtle way, where the meeting would be held as she seamlessly navigated between the wedding guests and adventurers.

floor 24. raitoboru bay. __/__/____: __:__.

tipsy, bored, and scheming, arabelle picks up the call.

except -- the lines must have gotten twisted up somewhere and the sources in her web fired off a different message entirely. this venue is clearly holding a wedding reception. rows of plastic chairs divided by a petal-salted aisle, a makeshift altar framed by pillars of lovely flowers, catering, and attendees in clothes far too thick for the weather. her best wishes to the husband and wife, however, she's already charged up her killing mood.

the uninvited(?) guest(??), holding with crooked fingers behind her back a plastic bag with three boxed sets of donuts, strolls into the gathering, outwardly unfazed and inquisitive. false information isn't uncommon in her line of work, but what awful luck that she had to face it today of all days. now she has to finish this fast or she'll be late. she's dressed down for the beach, having forgone her usual multi-layered outfit for a short white dress and slippers, and her bright red eyes are searching. they follow the orbits of players to a small, tight group of three. from attire alone, they're indistinguishable from the rest, but they'd slotted one in particular at their center and he appears to be receiving another player's well wishes. the groom, perhaps?

arabelle doesn't approach him. newly married men are too drunk off their own highs on these occasions. instead, she walks up to one of the two at the groom's side and softly taps his shoulder. "hello?" her lips turn up in a pleasant smile once she's certain she has the other's attention. "i received word that a raid meeting is to be held today. is this the right time and place?"

Little by little, more people began to join the group of Frontliners, other raid participants no doubt, given NIGHT's appearance. And that was Yuki beside her. Er, other Yuki. Pink Yuki. Koga had never formally met her before, but maybe this time. The man nodded to both of them in silent greeting.

The clip clop of sandals were the next thing to draw Koga's attention, as a pretty blonde lady approached the growing group and congratulated the groom before introducing herself to them. "Koga," the swordsman said with a faint smile and a nod. "Good to see you again, Kat," likewise recognizing her from a raid.

Another woman approached as well, her more traditional attire making her easily spotted as she looked around and seemed to wait for the meeting to start. It was about then that Koga felt someone tap his shoulder. He turned with a raised brow, and came to face snowy-haired woman with read eyes. "Hey?" he'd respond before she asked her question. "That's right," he nodded, before looking around a little. Normally, there were at least a few more Frontliners present. "I think we're just waiting for everyone to show up right now. I'm Koga," the man offered his hand, not believing himself to be acquainted with the crimson eyed woman yet.

A lot of people had arrived at the meeting before he did, he wasn’t surprised, there was seemingly a wedding close by, so those that already attended that would’ve presumably just walked over here with the rest of the crowd. Macradon wore his formal attire despite no need to represent anyone but himself, and even though he stood alone as a solo player, he still had some dignity to his name … some. He scoffed at his self loathing and shook his head, he was better than that, he didn’t need to fall into another spiral, he had places to be, people to save, battles to fight. He would check up on his equipped gear and nod to himself to enter the meeting’s location.

“Well met, friends and newcomers. It’s good to see you all again. Has anything been discussed before my arrival? Oh yeah, I’m Macradon, by the way.” the knight quaintly said as he made his entrance. His urge to kick down an imaginary saloon swing door, take a few cowboy steps and recite his Dinkster entrance was clawing at him, but he refrained, it was beneath him, that past event was … a disaster, and he wasn’t even the centre of attention for that.

"We'll get to business once enough players have arrived," Freyd replied to Morningstar and Wulfrin, the duo having performed admirably through the ceremony.  "Gathering this many players tends to be chaotic, at best.  If we start too soon, we'll repeat the same info a dozen times over."  Other players soon entered the pavilion, some from the wedding and others having just caught wind of the event through various respective grapevines.  Covering his left eye, he winked to Koga with the other, the two having last seen each other outside of raids in their efforts against the game's persistent pirate problem.

The sudden irrepressible aura of pink in the far corner of the tent could mean only one thing.  "Yuki?!  You're alive!"  The obviousness of the statement made him snort.  "Of course you're alive," he scolded himself.  "Like anything was every going to be capable of taking you down.  Glad to have you back with us, paladin.  You've been missed."

Locking eyes with Katoka as she rounded into the tent, he discretely handed her a hanky while instinctively protecting his ribs.  There were dents in his avatar, at heights corresponding from her elbows, from her incessant ribbing.  "You looked lovely at the wedding, Kat.  Glad to have you back with us for this one, captain."  Choosing to deliberately refer to her by title, something behind his eyes reassured her that they both knew she belonged here as a peer.  Patting her on the shoulder, he carried on milling about the growing throng, Freyd felt ill at ease as host, but managed as best he could, welcoming others as they arrived and offering introductions for those who might not know each other.  They'd stand a good chance of fighting side by side, shortly.  Raids were hardly to place or time to stay strangers and had helped form more than a few bonds in the past.  He chose to gloss over the more divisive recollection in favour of fostering a positive atmosphere.

"Ariel!" Offering a short formal bow to the regal warrior, he was glad to see the steady hand of such a veteran return.  "Thank you for coming.  We'd be lucky to have you with us.  I hope you're here to sign up."  Though he recognized most of the arrivals to date, a few faces remained unknown, including an unfamiliar woman with white hair and red eyes found speaking with Koga.  Approaching discreetly, he waited for an opportunity in their conversation.

"Pardon me.  Your face seems familiar, but I confess that I can't seem to match it with a name.  Apologies and thank you for joining us.  Perhaps fresh introductions would help?.  My name is Freyd.  Welcome to the raid meeting.  Forgive my ignorance, but are you new to the frontlines?"  The whole exchange reminded him of his father's tedious dinner parties, playing to stifling expectations, though was was forced to confess that it was genuinely nice to see so many gathered.

"It's nice to see such a promising turnout," he offered to no one in particular.  "Hopefully even more will... Mac!"

Few were as notable as the Imperial Topaz, his reputation verging on the legendary.  They'd recently run a quick jaunt together, racing across floors gathering materials in preparation.  The normally ebullient knight had seemed subdued and less confident than his usually boisterous self.  Excusing himself from Koga and Arabelle's social cluster, Freyd strode purposefully across the tent to grasp Macradon's forearm in friendship, and slapping his broad shoulders appreciatively.

"I'm so glad you're here, my friend.  We need your guidance and strength, as always."  Freyd would be damned if he'd let the man's doubts eat at him, or anyone else's do the same.  Aincrad was weighing too much on people these days.  If a few boasts and  kind words could help people stay on their feet, he'd gladly play whatever part was required.

Who are you, and what have you done with Freyd?  The jest echoed in his mind, a mocking if appreciative shadow glaring invisibly at him from the nearby canvas tent flap.  It was a fair remark.  He'd been too much a distant outsider for too long and the necessity of change had finally pressed its way though his stubbornly thick skull.  The lesson had been long and hard fought, leaving feeling indebted to many.

"We'll wait a short while longer for any lingering stragglers to arrive, then get started.  Please, everyone, help yourselves to refreshments and make yourselves comfortable.  And thank you all for making the time to attend."

OOC: We'll give everyone until end of day Friday to post their attendance, then get to the meat of the meeting on the weekend.]

It turns out that being fashionably late isn't always the best.

There was a wedding going for one of the up and coming players that Hirru had only just ventured out with some time previous.  Though, he was initially going to be joining the whole thing, there came a problem.

"I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING PROPER TO WEAR!!"

He was fumbling through his inventory for things that would be appropriate.  Battle gear?  No.  Formal Wear?  The only formal wear he had was the military uniform he got back during the valentines ball on the 26th floor.  That was probably better than anything else, but this is a wedding.  He had heard and seen so many from afar.  They looked so elegant and beautiful.  He didn't want to make an imposing appearance to the event.  Although, there was something about it that he couldn't figure.  Maybe..

What else did he really have?  Santa suit?

. . .

1418229787_HirruProfile.jpg.0dc6754e01072fd67d25e74f9c485a6b.jpg

It was well past the time that the wedding had taken place, and the hunter had missed another party.  He felt that he was missing out of so much, but he always had a problem with something.  There would always be something that stops him from attending something proper without some weird situation propping up.

He just really hoped that there wouldn't be any issues that come up.  Though, the location was something that he wanted to avoid for a bit.  Something was wrong ever since the Olympus quest and this book that popped into his life.  Water was starting to cause a scene of darkness and violet.  He didn't understand it much, but the last venture with Freyd did paint it into a more vivid picture.  It wasn't the water, but something else.  He would just have to avoid the waves.  The dark..

Sufficating..

. . .

Straightening his uniform, he would continue in.  Stepping into the venue, breathing deeply, he would notice the crowd that had already joined in. Maybe some would have already been there, while some were coming for the meeting that was supposed to happen afterwards.  It didn't matter much to him, but he was glad to see most of the players here that he knew.  He needed to talk to a couple of them later, but that would be then.  Freyd, Star, Mina, and himself were the only ones with the knowledge from killing that fugly antelope.

Turning to the couple, he would bow to them to give his greetings.

"My apologies for showing up late, and in such attire.  I wish you both health and wellness."

she remembers every face she comes across. coincidentally, everyone here is a stranger. all the circles she ran around players who were far stronger than her landed her in an obscure position.

she seeks to amend that.

"arabelle," the woman says gratefully, shaking koga's hand. so, contrary to her assumption, one (or two) of them is mad enough to disrupt one of the most important days of their lives for something so tedious and nerve-wracking as raid planning, and the rest had simply let it happen. there's a fascinating story here; she already wants to pry into it. "i did not hear of a wedding, so i really thought i'd wandered into a different party entirely," she confesses, hiding a soft laugh behind her hand. "but this is great! who's the happy couple? i assume they're with the frontlines, too... -- oh, hello."

another man politely cuts in. arabelle backs up a step to accommodate him, and her red eyes shift downwards to his attire. a wedding needed an officiant.

"your face seems familiar."

--no. it isn't.--

“but i can’t seem to match it with a name.”

"my name is arabelle," she offers. this one's tone is so formal that she nearly slips into it herself, but she appreciates that he had come to greet a newcomer. at this point, she's working off the assumption that everyone here knows each other but her. they all certainly look quite settled. depending on their attitude towards outsiders, finding her way 'in' would either be one of the hardest challenges she's ever undertaken in the past year or as easy as pie. "thank you, freyd. and don't worry about it at all; i really am new here. i recently hit the level cap and i wanted to see if this raid could use another dps." she pumps her fist in a small gesture of determination. "and i'm eager to learn how things work here, too."

at freyd's comment about the turnout, her gaze briefly drifts over the people in the gathering. she's long had a sense of how many players were active in the frontlines, but only those on the inside had the full picture of its affairs. she withholds comment.

and by the time she turns back, freyd had already moved on, calling out to another new arrival. "busy guy," arabelle idly remarks to koga.

He knew many of the attendees. There were a few unfamiliar faces as well. It always felt strange attending events like this. His relationships were surface level; he could count the number of times he had met most of the people in the room on one hand. He saw Hirru, whom he had had the pleasure of fighting with on a few occasions. Kat and Koga, too. Maybe he'd encountered the rest before, in passing or at a previous meeting, but he couldn't recall either way.

Still, he'd gotten used to being unfamiliar to people over the years, and found it kind of fun. Interactions with no strings attached were pleasant, he thought. Others were introducing themselves, and he wanted to do the same. He approached the small group forming around Koga and inserted himself into their conversation.

"Koga. Good to see you. And I overheard you say your name was Arabelle? I'm Star," he reached out for a handshake with his free hand, the other cradling a leather-bound journal. "Nice to meet you."

Astralin had only barely heard of the news regarding the upcoming floor boss meeting, she was already on her way, near fashionably late. She'd asked Krysta and Vigilon if they were going, but Vigilon didn't respond and Krysta had revealed that she was searching for him as he'd gone missing...leaving Astralin to have to pick up the slack on her own. Hopefully there were faces she'd recognize here!

Astralin ran through the coastal sands of Raitoboru Bay, searching for a gathering of players. At first, she had doubts that this was the meeting, it looked like something else had just happened. She did see a face that was faintly familiar, though... "Is this the Meeting Place?" She asked.
@Freyd

After that question was answered, she wondered if there was anyone she knew. She looked and recognized two faces. "Star! Koga! Hiiiiiii!!!" She called out as she waved over to them, walking towards them as she did so. "It's been a while, how have the both of you been?" She asked. "I've been awfully busy as of late, Some unexpected special training was underway for me." She revealed. "Got a neat new Sword Art from it, Surging Strikes. I have yet to figure out how to properly style it though..." She added, pulling out her Skillbook. If any of the players in the area were to pay any attention to the book's cover, they would see plenty of mystifying symbols, as well as star and galaxy inspired design patterns on it. She looked back to the two players she was conversing with, a smile on her face. "But that part should probably come later, It's just nice to see you both again." She looked around her. "So, um...how do you think this meeting's gonna go?" She asked.

A raid meeting didn't seem like the most ideal destination for a honeymoon. Even for an after party it seemed a tad bit foreboding. It would be the last thing he would even want to think about following such a joyous occasion. Interesting times called for interesting measures, though. And in lieu of the disillusive wine and spirits consumed during the reception, the adrenaline rush from the impending doom of a boss fight was the next best high you could get.

Jomei had not been invited to partake in the festivities, though why would he have been? He had not had the pleasure to meet the happy couple before tying the knot, nor had he heard their usernames before. Not like he was the social butterfly others made him out to be -- or maybe that outgoing personality had faded with his past. Despite, he decided it may be in poor taste to arrive in his typical attire. A long sleeved, dark shirt, paired with a pair of olive green trousers that ended just above the ankle and some simple loafers. Of course, the ensemble would not be complete without the center piece of the Emerald Duelist's uniform - his green cloak, draped over his shoulders.

The ginger stepped out onto the beach, his feet slightly sinking into the sandy beach with each step. He walked along the shoreline with his hands shoved into pant pockets, looking off at the players gathered already. Many of them were dressed up, possibly in attendance for the wedding itself. Paired with the tables of food, and wedding decor as the backdrop, this felt more like a formal gathering than a war table meeting.

Planting a hand on the shoulders of Koga and Morningstar, Jomei would slightly lean forward to join the grouping. "Gah, the lot of you are making me feel underdressed. Would have worn my good cloak." he would playfully say with a wide grin. "It's good to see you all again." Olive eyes would scan the gathering, making a note of all of the players present. Not many.. that was never the best sign. The smile he wore flickered for a moment before he would snap back to the moment.

My, they were a sociable bunch.

Bahr's mismatched eyes scanned the gaggle of Frontliners as he skulked his way into the room, taking care to avoid any eye contact lest be find himself drawn into some conversation he had no desire to be a part of. It wasn't that they were bad people. They were just... not his type. Many of the faces he found were ones he knew, but there were a few that eluded his recognition. There would be time for introductions after Bahr had decided whether or not he truly intended to stick around. A part of him was already feeling like coming out of his short-lived 'retirement' had been a bad idea.

But, so far as he could tell, it was necessary. Compared to previous meetings he had attended, the numbers here were sparse. Raids had historically humbled Bahr when compared to his performance in standard content, so it wasn't as though he fancied himself as some sort of Frontliner Jesus here to save everyone from the Big Bad. Any warm body was better than a vacant slot in the roster when things were running this thin. And just where was everyone, anyway? Were the faces he was expecting, but did not see, belonging to fellow retirees? Was he simply early?

Or had just that many of them managed to die?

And, hell, why were so many of them dressed up in suits?

Not far away, he locked eyes with about the only person here he felt familiar enough with to hang around with. He offered Macradon a stiff nod before navigating through the crowd, slinking around his would-be interlocutors with expert precision, so as to avoid making them more directly aware of his presence. Once he'd closed the distance, he regarded his comrade with a smile and a palm extended for a handshake.

"Mac, good to see you."

Acanthus slid into the meeting room as late as possible. She had been there an hour early, of course. On time is late, she thought firmly. But the thought of such a large crowd gave her physical anxiety, and she hoped that walking in late would avoid the worst of the small talk. First would come the pleasant hellos—those were never bad. Then the introductions. And then the questions. Oh, Acanthus, I didn’t see you at the last floor boss meeting. Or any of the others. Where have you been all this time? And Acanthus would have to find some answer that was somehow truthful, yet evasive, yet polite, yet—

Focus. Focus back onto the meeting. Many faces she recognized—Freyd, Morningstar, even a man named Wulfrin that she’d met in passing at Riardon’s shop—but most of the people here were strangers. She did her best to simply blend in with the crowd… but how on earth would she blend in with these people? They all wore sensible, fashionable clothing: beach outfits, beautiful dresses, and the like. Acanthus was wearing her armor like she always did. She berated herself. What, did you think you were going to be fighting something at the meeting? You’re ridiculous. Anyone here could take one look at you and see the inexperience. But her inability to blend in amounted to more than clothes. Everyone else in the room looked so self-assured. So invincible.

It was all Acanthus could do to keep from leaving immediately. I can always come back for the next floor boss. I’ll be ready by then. But she opted to stay in her seat, frozen by some feeling she couldn’t quite name. She simply prayed that no one would notice her.

More and more people.

Most of whom, Koga realized, he actually knew, even if it was only in passing.

Hirru, to name one for certain. Koga had not seen the man since the climatic end of the raid against Gabrandr, but stressful situations forged a sense of kinship, and the swordsman made a mental note to go and talk to him later.

There were more than a few people to speak to now anyways (when did Koga get so popular?) "Can't blame you," the man said to Arabelle, as she'd introduced herself as. "It's unusual for a raid meeting for sure, but," Koga pointed towards Wulfrin with his thumb, gently teasing as he confirmed that he was indeed the man of the hour, "seems like this guy wanted to make a good first impression."

As Freyd scurried off to greet, oh, so that's who the legendary Macradon was. Koga hadn't realized before. The swordsman felt slightly humbled to have fought beside such a legend before. "He is indeed," Koga nodded in response to Arabelle remark. Koga had never known an idle Freyd, if such a person ever existed.

A couple of other people Koga knew approached, and he greeted them both in turn. "Star, how's it goin', man?" he said, followed by looking over at Astralin as she came over, bubbly and cheery as ever. "Where've you been hiding? I haven't seen you in ages," he smiled at her, before she launched into a short explanation. "Better not hold back then in the boss fight. Gotta show off the fancy new moves. This is Arabelle, by the way. New blood," he told the blonde. "Looks like we've got a few new people on the Front this time around-" and their numbers were still so few, "but I can't imagine it'll be any different than normal. Go over what the scouting party saw, theorize, plan, build parties, argue." Because what was a raid meeting without a bit of arguing? "All part of the process," Koga shrugged for the Arabelle's benefit just before he felt a hand clap his shoulder.

"Jomei!" Koga grinned at the ginger. "You look good as always," Koga assured the man. "It's been a while, good to see you again."

Koga remarked about how he hadn't seen her in ages. She nodded her head. "It's quite the tale. I don't mind sharing if you're willing to hear, of course." She noted. Koga then hoped that Astralin wouldn't hold back if she joined the raid, then he introduced Arabelle to her. Astralin intended to speak to her already, so this was perfectly fine.

"Hi, Arabelle, nice to meet you!" She began. "I'm Astralin, I utilize my own inner power to get things done." She introduced, before realizing she just gave herself an excuse to open up her Skillbook that she'd pulled out earlier. She would open it up, looking at some of her best notes on skills and how she'd execute them in her preferred style, though due to the nature of the skills she had, physical contact was always required to deal any damage. "I prefer to use it and speak of it like magic, I've got all kinds of spells! Healing magic, a mass heal spell, a barrier spell, an energy transfer spell.." She began, warming up and getting a little excited. "I've got some combat magic, too, got the basics, got some fire spells and ice spells, and soon I might have other elements, giving me access to frost spells, flora spells, lightning magic, and more!" She rambled as she flipped through the pages, happy about the progress she'd been making.
She soon turned to one of the latest pages, which appeared to be an attempt to copy what may have been on a screenshot. Based on the style of this particular page's writing and artwork that was clearly traced, it seemed to be in the style of an Asian scroll, involving martial arts and something about water.
"And then there's Surging Strikes. I'll admit, I've been having a bit of a hard time adapting this one like my other spells...there's gotta be a way..." She noted, more calmly this time. She closed the Skillbook and brought her mind back to the conversation with Koga's remark about strategies and arguments. "Is...is that really normal? I'd hope not, but..." Astralin wasn't sure what else to say. Koga claimed it was all part of the progress, then a familiar face joined the conversation.

@Koga @Arabelle

Astralin looked to see Jomei again. Oh, no...

"Hi Jomei! I wouldn't say you're underdressed, I wear this dress here throughout my travels. You look great, by the way!" She said with a cheerful smile, doing her best to hide her nervousness in the process. Was it because the man was a ginger rapier user? Such ridiculous reasons for Astralin to be reminded of Leo...

   @Jomei

Desperate for a distraction, she looked around her, then spotted a girl clad in armor, sitting down. Astralin waved over to her. "Heeeeey, over here!" She called out with a welcoming grin. "Are you here for the meeting, by any chance?" She asked, hoping the girl would come over and join in.
