Morningstar giggled, enthused by Freyd's olive puns. He carried a basket on him for this exact occasion. He pulled it out of his inventory and began shoveling olives inside, not too picky on quality. Freyd and Elora could sort that out at home. "Look at this lot. Kalamata olives, man. You've hit the jackpot, indeed. Is it weird that I kind of want to meet the king? What do you think his crown is made of?"

Before Star could get an answer out of the two, loud stomps began echoing through the garden. "Ah, shit. The cavalry's coming."

The cavalry peaked around the hedged entrance with a giant eyeball. "FAAAAAAAAAAAAATHER!" It boomed, it's voice shockingly deep. It shouted so loud that Morningstar checked his ears for blood. "THERE ARE THIEVES IN THE OLIVE GARDEN! THIEVES!"

Without care for the hedge itself, it climbed on through the green archway and into the garden. Standing at about 13 feet tall and 415 pounds was a lumbering toddler. He looked to be about 3 years old, but he was a little bit bigger than average. "MAY I EAT THEM, FATHER?"

"I hate this place," Star said, poking at the giant baby with his sword. He felt kind of bad for fighting back.

Acanthus was confused. “Olive trees are not sexually dimorphic. And I think ‘extra virgin’ is what happens when they’re pressed. Not f—”

"FAAAAAAAAAAAAATHER!" Her eyes went wide as dinner plates. A thirteen foot-tall toddler clambered through the green archway and eyed the party hungrily. "MAY I EAT THEM, FATHER?"

“I suppose that answers my initial question,” said Acanthus with a flat tone. “‘Dominion over fruit’ it is.”

In the past, Acanthus had struggled fighting anything humanoid. For whatever reason, she didn’t have any issues in the moment. Part of her chalked it up to the resolve she gained after fighting herself. On the other hand, a 13-foot toddler seemed so absurd, so unreal, that it was easy to divorce herself from the slaughter. Plus, it clearly expressed a desire to eat them.

“So there’s a father?” Acanthus asked with a hint of curiosity. “I guess that means when we’re here, there’s family.” She wasn’t sure what had made her say that. It barely made sense—she needed to stick to combat rather than cutesy wordplay.

"Holy hell.  Oliver?  Now there's a twist for ya!"  He barely got the words out while keeping his face straight.  Even the mob was stunned, though perhaps also literally after Acanthus' deft blow.  "And if there's a dad, does this make him a mini-boss?  I mean, if the diaper fits, right?"

Stumbling in a stupor, the mob reminded Freyd of someone he'd fought many times before.

"He kinda looks suspiciously like Ugzeke - a floor boss down on twenty one.  Which could either mean he's part troll, or Ug'zeke is part baby, or both.  Or, I could just be rambling.  All I'm saying is, there's a certain famlliar tzatziki-esque quality about all of this that cannot be denied."

Recognizing the actual peril underlying all of their ridiculous comments, Freyd took his shot with meticulous precision, shattering the mob's mesh on its left ribs and exposing a weak point for future attacks.  All it would take was a stray bit of bad luck and their jokes could become dirges.  If he was supposed to be tanking, that would fall on him, and there was no way he'd let that happen.

"I think this guy knows more words than Ug'zeke. Maybe he's a little older. Or maybe there are better tutors here than in the underdark," Star theorized, dodging Oliver's slow hand as he tried to grab at him. "If this is the kid, though, I don't want to know how big the parents are."

He imagined the king standing at around twenty feet, like a fruitier version of Absolute Zero. The distant castle looked suspiciously normal in stature, though. Maybe that was why Oliver was outside—he couldn't fit. He was having trouble wrapping his head around fruit kingdom biology, and hoped that perhaps there was a library on site that could teach him more.

Star, distracted by his thoughts of fruit kings and giant toddlers, narrowly missed his swing against Oliver. His blade contacted nothing, and Oliver took that as a chance to hit back. Star yelped as he took flight. A stubby kick sent him straight into the orchard, where he disappeared behind olives and leaves.

Acanthus narrowly ducked as Morningstar sailed overhead, landing in some nearby olive trees. “AMUSING,” the toddler thundered, flailing his little chubby fists. “Morningstar, are you ok?” She thought she saw branches moving. Either way, he seemed like he could throw hands with a baby. He would be fine.

Acanthus tried to circle around the baby. Troll-baby, if Freyd was to be believed. Frankly, she thought most babies looked something like trolls anyways. She made the mistake of saying that once. She learned quickly that there was a time and place for honest thoughts, and it was not at children’s birthday parties.

Doing her best to follow up on Freyd’s shattering attack, Acanthus struck Oliver squarely in the left ribs. “THAT WAS UNPLEASANT,” the baby rumbled. “I MAY HAVE TO EAT YOU FIRST.”

“I don’t want to bother you, Freyd.” The tone in her voice rose as she fought to control her panic. “But if you take his aggro back, I would be most appreciative.”

"Bold of you to assume that Ug'zeke actually knows any words at all."  Dodging low, then tumbling to the mob's far side, Freyd kept up their conversation like the gathered melee was little more than parlour chat during a morning constitutional, begging the question: what did the darkly clad madman actually do for his breakfast routine.  "If you think he's bad, or his potential dommy-mommy, I should take you up against the Colossus from the Scents of the Wild totem hunt someday.  That's a wild one."

Star was struggling to find purchase with his blade, but doing a fine job of tantalizing their nemesis toddler by flashing shiny things in its general direction.  Acanthus, meanwhile, was in fine form distracting the beast, her own attacks harrying its movements.  A certain frantic undertone in her request for an aggro pull didn't go unnoticed.  Slipping in between the plethora of shadows dancing about the battlefield, Freyd emerged at her side, brushing just close enough to touch her sword arm and reassure her she'd been heard.  Without making a sound, the Whisper flung himself towards their enemy.  It was as if he'd inhabited her shade, wreathing himself with it like a tabard or battle banner, trailing wisps of ephemeral black fog in his wake.

Shrieking like the keening wail of a banshee split that momentary dullness as Freyd's fists peeled back the intangible seals from the ribbons wrapped around his hands to unleash the heartless void within.  Freyd flinched, the same fury literally lapping at his fingertips as he clenched that nothingness and drove it across the giant toddler's thigh.  What felt like it should have been an explosion produced only the opposite, the Whisper's hand colliding with Oliver's digital mesh and devouring it like a nuclear-powered vacuum cleaner.

"OWW!  YOU'RE ALL MEANIES!!!"

Star pulled teensy twigs out of his hair and brushed pieces of bark and dirt from his clothing. He laid there for a moment, contemplating what he had done to end up a child's play thing. Maybe he should have left better tips at restaurants, or donated to a charity for orphaned children in the Town of Beginnings. Or, maybe he should have given back Koga's wallet. No, that couldn't be it.

"I'm okay," he called back to Acanthus. "I'll live. I think."

He picked himself up, and took a surprisingly long trek back to the battlefield. He climbed around olive trees, peaking out just in time to see Freyd get crumpled up like a piece of incomplete homework and tossed to the side. Star winced. "That can't feel good."

"LET ME EAT YOU!!"

Zipping out of the garden, he slammed straight into Oliver, knocking him onto his back. The giant baby wailed, "FAAAAAAAATHER!!!!! THEY HURT ME, FATHER!!," before exploding into blue dust.

First Morningstar, then Freyd. She recoiled as Oliver crashed into the dark swordsman. A single hit had taken almost half his health. She was certain Oliver would have annihilated her in a single swipe. Thank goodness Morningstar had already bounced back, and was rushing past Acanthus before she could even react. He slammed directly into Oliver’s belly, toppling him onto his back. With one last cry, the baby exploded.

As the dust settled, she accepted the dungeon rewards on the menu in front of her. “That was my first dungeon,” she admitted. “Are they all this… chaotic? Not that it was a problem. If you ever would like to come back and fight whoever lives over there,” she gestured at the distant castle, “I would be pleased to come back and help out.”

While she closed her system menu, she glanced at the clock. “That took a little longer than I anticipated. If it’s alright with you both, I think I am ready to head back.”
