[PP-F11] Introductions Are in Order

The Trackers Alliance HQ
Taft, Floor 11

He felt awkward, waiting for a group of strangers in a near empty room. He took another look at his list. Not everyone would make it on day one, he presumed. Kingsley was no where to be seen—not because he was short, but because it was a workday and he had orders to fulfill. Star had opened up his day to host a gathering at the new guild hall. The interview stage had gone well, and about a dozen members had been selected in the end. It was more than he had hoped for, and he was glad for it.

He tested the monitor at the back of the room, poking at it to ensure that everything was where it was supposed to be. He had dubbed it the "mission board," for lack of a better term. A list of rumors popped up, each one attached with information collected by Star himself. He concluded his tests, finding it bug free, but wondered if one board was enough.

Besides his own quiet breaths and the clock across the room, things were quiet. He wasn't alone. Dante, an NPC he had befriended long ago, had stationed himself downstairs. The old man decided to sell his Town of Beginnings bar, set on transitioning into retirement—only, retirement for him meant working in another bar with fewer customers and worse pay. Star wasn't going to argue with him. To each their own.

The meeting was a prime opportunity for his new recruits to ask questions and to meet each other, but it was by no means required. They were essentially freelancers with more easily accessible resources and better community. He had no intention of forcing them to socialize; if all they were looking for was a way to get paid, that was fine by him. What mattered most to Morningstar was that rumors were being investigated.

He stood by himself, reviewing his notes, and awaited his first arrivals.

"Note to self," Wulfrin said as he entered the almost abandoned feeling of the Guild Hall. "Bring something to liven the place up next time. What do you think Solaris? Would a sword and shield placard look good right about there above the bar?"

The invitation Wulfrin had received was an odd one. Morningstar had established a guild and approached Wulfrin about joining. Wulfrin had already been shopping around for a guild since he had been running solo for a while now both in the field and in the workplace. That and his friends list was extremely short. Guilds had always been on his radar, but he never had the drive to bite the bullet and join one. Thus he jumped on the offer as soon as it crossed his inbox.

"Excuse me," Wulfrin said to the bartender. "I'm looking for the Tracker's Alliance meeting room." He materialized a paper invitation and showed it off to the NPC, who looked it over before handing it back. After a few rather confusing instructions, Wulfrin eventually made it into the meeting room, after checking at least three others.

"I will say," Wulfrin said as he made his presence known. "I appreciate the invite, but we really need some color."

Wulfrin looked over the monitor with intrigue. There were a few Wulfrin had heard of, but never had the time to investigate. However, for every one of those, there was at least two others he had no idea even existed. After having his rather tense run in with his Gemini, the thought of a proper adventure was starting to breathe new life into him. He stepped aside and took a seat at the conference table, one seat to the right of the head, and continued to examine the board.

"So," Wulfrin said as he materialized a pad and pen. "Do I call you Master now? I'm kinda new to this whole guild thing. I am serious about the decorations though. I'll start on some ceremonial pieces when I get back to the forge."

Tail swaying behind her, Yue Hua sailed in shortly after Wulfrin took his seat.

“‘Morning, Leader,” she greeted first with a small wave. “Have you had breakfast yet?”

She was early, perhaps a few minutes ahead of the designated meeting time, which was unusual for her -- never a fan of waiting, she tended to show up at the very last minute. Today, she was just too excited to care.

The meeting area was large, but a bit quaint in terms of decorations as her fellow recruit pointed out. Perfectly in line with her expectations for a fledgling guild. They had the time to grow, even if Yue Hua proved to be unreliable in the end. With the same casual affect she had worn throughout her interview, she took the seat across from Wulfrin and propped an elbow on the table, leaning her cheek into her palm. “Hello. I’m Yue Hua, player name 'kali'. Call me whichever you like, but I prefer going by my real name. You?”

As they waited for the rest of the guild to arrive, Yue Hua looked curiously at the text displayed on the monitor.

Navigation was not an easy task for someone just recently gifted with the ability to see. Even with waymarkers to assist her she would find herself struggling to find the guild hall. Scarlet had been told that floors tend to get smaller the higher up you went in Aincrad but she could hardly tell. Taft was as massive as the Town of Beginnings and about five hundred times more overwhelming considering she’s never been here. Being much higher meant there were more dangerous creatures that could kill her, as well, but that wouldn’t matter as long as she stayed inside the city. For some reason it was always safe within their bounds… She didn’t understand it but had a hard time believing that people would lie to her.

What felt like hours of searching finally came to a close as she meagerly walked through the doors of the large guild hall. After a short chat with Dante, an NPC(not a real person), he would point her to the appropriate meeting place. She walked down the hall, catching a short glimpse of another woman entering a room way down the hall; must be her fated location.

Not wishing to interrupt any ongoing conversation Scarlet would slowly creak the door open —and creak it would, loudly. The more she tried to stop it, the worse it got until she just swung the door open in a nervous jolt. “Ah-! My deepest apologies!” The girl panicked and closed the door behind her.

After entering, she would quickly find a place to sit and nervously wait for the meeting to begin. Seeing Yue introduced herself, Firefly would clear her throat, trying to not look as overwhelmed as she felt. “Hello, I’m Samantha, and I’m bli-.” She would stop herself. Normal introduction did not apply, there was no blindness in Aincrad. “If it pleases you, call me Firefly or Scarlet.

just a means of getting for intel. night said she was taken and demian wasn't interested in getting involved in personal drama. so a responsibility fell on her to investigate this start-up -- this tracker's alliance.

the guild's initial gathering was already looking rather promising, given the unknown faces in the turnout.

bistro herself had shown up in her everyday attire, more curious to inspect than concerned about heading out on an adventure. a stroll through the front doors, and a turn of the head upwards, at the holographic display. almost immediately, she took a screenshot for prosperity, and then stationed herself against a wall nearby. the new faces could present themselves excited on her behalf; she'd let them.

the hall's interior was cushy, even if it wasn't too her liking exactly -- not enough light, in her opinion, but her preferences didn't exactly matter, because at the heart of it was distributed intel on invitation.

its members were trading words. only when spotted did bistro decide to chime in with a "hey!" and a wave.

"bistro, owner of the cintamani. no sponsorships this time -- except upon request." so much for a 'hero's retirement'. "i don't usually take the fore, so please designate me with less combat oriented tasks if possible. i'll be happy to hear about the ones i'm not assigned to, however. pleasure doing business with all of you."

This morning Siren had woken up late. She hated being late. She kissed Reese on the forehead and headed out the door. Siren had received a message the other day from a player named Morningstar about joining a guild. She'd never heard of him but figured Ciela had told Wulfrin she was looking for a guild. Wulfrin probably knows people. Siren was interested in the aspect of this guild. Bounty hunting huh? That idea intrigued her.

As Siren sauntered into the guild hall, she spotted a familiar face. "Wulfrin! Hi sugar." She looked around at all of them. "Sorry that I'm late y'all. I got a little side tracked this morning. I'm Siren, but feel free to call me Angel or come up with a special nickname for me. Feel free to call me whatever you want to. I'm not picky." As Siren got comfortable and pulled out a large tin. Ciela had given it to her for the meeting. She grabbed a croissant from the tin and gently placed the tin onto the table. "I'm pretty sure Ciela planned to send some with Wulfrin just in case we didn't have enough. Lord knows that blessed woman doesn't let anyone go hungry. Whether in her presence or not."

Star lifted his gaze from his notebook and pointed his pen to a potted flower by the window. "Look. Blue. Not enough color for you?" He flashed a smile. "Glad you could make it. Honestly, I was surprised you were interested. You seem more like a leader than a follower."

"Er," he paused, thinking over his new title. "Star, Morningstar, Stephen, Morning (if you're Freyd), Guy, Dude—anything aside from Master works with me. Make yourself at home."

Another face popped into the meeting room shortly after the first. While he knew Wulfrin well, this girl was new to him. She was sweet and polite, and those were about the only notes he had on her. Yue Hua, or kali as her nameplate stated. She referred to him as Leader, and while it would take some getting used to, it was leagues better than Master.

"Morning. I have not had breakfast, actually," he realized. A meal was integral to his morning routine. Somehow, today, he had forgotten.

Scarlet Firefly entered third. Hello, I’m Samantha, and I’m bli-.”

-nd, he gathered was the ending to her sentence. Ex-blind, according to his interview notes. If nothing else, the game had the benefit of providing solutions to real world physical barriers. Kingsley wouldn't shut up about how good his back felt ever since he booted up the "head computer," as he put it.

Star was intrigued by the fact that two of the three arrivals had introduced themselves using their real names. Quite honestly, he wasn't sure how the majority of the player base felt about the matter. He couldn't see the harm, but it was uncommon to know another player's pre-Aincrad identity. It felt more personal, and showed a level of trust.

"Welcome aboard, Samantha."

Bistro. An alchemist he'd seen a handful of times, primarily at her shop on Floor One, and once at a raid meeting. NIGHT's friend, he thought, and an information broker. She would be instrumental in the guild's success; Star possessed a limited amount of knowledge regarding rumors and such. A broker was a necessity for upkeep. He greeted her as he did the others and listened eagerly to her introduction.

"Got it. No. Combat," he scribbled down in his journal.

Last, but not least, came Siren. Apparently she was a friend of Wulfrin and Ciela. She was a last minute invite, and one that Star had not had the opportunity to interview. The lovely Ciela sent a container of croissants with Siren, which was perfect because Morningstar had completely neglected to provide food for the party. It was amateur hour at the Trackers Alliance HQ.

"No need to apologize," Star nodded. "Your timing is great. Nice to meet you, Siren."

All of his RSVPs were in session, and with that, he felt comfortable beginning their first official guild meeting. He waited a while for the others to get comfortable before clearing his throat.

"Thanks for attending. Most of you know me, but for those I haven't had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Morningstar. I'm a frontlines DPS, a really inconsistent appraiser, and most predominantly, a scout. I spend as much time as I can in the field, chasing rumors and exploring. As Bistro can probably attest, new rumors appear on the daily, and there are way too many for one person to investigate alone. And that's why I started this guild. The Trackers Alliance is, as far as I know, the only place in Aincrad where scouts and brokers can easily connect. I intend for it to be a hub for collaborative investigation, with the added benefits of room and board, and rewards for completing missions."

"Which brings me to the guild's heart and soul: the mission board," he angled himself comfortably, pointing his pen at the holographic screen. "Don't ask me how much this cost. We'll call it a business expense."

A few rumors were already visible on the screen. "This is where you can find and accept missions. You'll notice that there is a rank attached to each rumor. This indicates difficulty, with D being the lowest, and S being the highest. As of now, there are no limits to what rumors you are allowed to take; but, I'd suggest that you steer clear of anything that might exceed your level and stats. There should be plenty of rumors for all comfort levels."

"I don't want to throw too much information your way at once. For now, I'd like to open some time for questions."

"Dude my house is basically lake side property," Wulfrin joked back as Star pointed to the plant. "It's a solid start, but we've got a long way to go to make this place... inviting. As for showing up? Why wouldn't I? From what you were telling me you were the only high level player in the guild. I figured you'd like the back up. Besides I can't run a guild if I haven't ever been a part of one."

The next attendee arrived shortly after they finished their brief catch up on the state of things. Wulfrin noted the tail. He hadn't seen many players running around fulfilling their inner cat persona, he never really cared to be honest. To each their own was his motto. In Aincrad that was painfully true. Wulfrin himself had started adopting a more shadowy, mercenary for higher aesthetic lately, a look he'd rather not have as his first impression on new guildmates, so his armor and weapon were stored safely away in his inventory accessible with just a few quick gestures if needed.

The next two that entered were familiar to Wulfrin though only through passing conversation. Scarlet had come by his shop to purchase their weapon and Wulfrin had visited Bistro's shop a few times picking up consumables. Out side of purely business transactions, Wulfrin hadn't really gotten to know them all that well. Bistro's mention of abstaining from combat made Wulfrin raise an eyebrow. Not going to be doing much exploration if you don't want to run the risk of getting in a fight. The last attendee to arrive, Wulfrin knew pretty well. Siren had been stopping by his house pretty frequently since her and his wife, Ciela had reconnected. Apparently they were friends in the real world. Then she laid into him about not bringing any snacks.

"Yeah about that," Wulfrin said with a sigh of disappointment, his face buried in his hand. "I might have forgotten them on the kitchen counter. I had some last minute things to handle at the forge."

"Anyways name's Wulfrin," He chimed in after Morningstar gave his little exposition dump. "I'm also a frontline DPS. Our Leader and I have gone on a handful of jobs together. If you need an extra hand on a job just reach out. I also have a forge on Floor 22 and will hopefully be setting up a smaller operation here for guild mates to stop by and get gear made at no cost."

"As for questions," Wulfrin directed his attention back to Morningstar. "Are there any quotas to meet or is it more of a work at your own pace type of thing?"

Slowly and ominously, the door creaked open to a terrified woman who immediately fretted and apologized. Then she sank into a seat near Yue Hua, stumbling once over her introduction.

So cute. Yue Hua wanted to pinch her cheeks. She decided she was going to call her Firefly.

Two more recruits soon joined them: a distant (literally) woman who owned a business that one could apparently recognize by name, and a woman with a heavy accent, toting along a tin of croissants. Yue Hua would never say no to food. "My thanks to this 'Ciela' person. And to you for bringing it, of course," she said appreciatively, picking up a croissant of her own. She nodded in approval after a small bite. It was the brightest she could possibly look with her stoic demeanor. "It tastes good. Is she a cook by profession?"

That was everyone. A small turnout, but the old man who had been with Morningstar during the interview wasn't here. Perhaps there were more that simply couldn't make it today. Yue Hua's attention turned back to the guild's 'mission board', as Morningstar called it, and she listened intently as she munched on her croissant. So their leader wasn't the only bigshot in this room -- Wulfrin was too, so did that extend to Siren as well? They were acquainted with each other. Given their capabilities were in discussion, she chimed in with her own, "On field, I was a healer. My account got set back to zero after I ran into some trouble, but soon as my EXP is back up some, I'd be willing to sign up for anything involving combat. I prefer it, actually, I've heard it's a bit in demand these days. I'm also aiming to regain my levels in alchemy sometime in the future."

Yue Hua nonchalantly took another bite from her croissant. Sibyl and Morningstar knew. What's another four people, especially ones who are now functionally her colleagues? "I have a question, too. What about the rewards we earn from completing these rumors? Does the guild take a percentage, and if it does, how much is it?"

The maintenance expenses for that tech had to come from somewhere, she thought.

"Got it. No. Combat."

"some combat," bistro offered back. she'd brought out a basic spear, likely similar to one novices would use as part of their beginner's kit as though to demonstrate. but she added a wry smile. "just not too much."

she'd stepped up alongside her other members now, once their leader had started to address them as a whole. the brief was kept simple. bistro was taking notes already with a glance upwards, trying to recall what cardinal could provide its members structurally. the mission board was likely commissioned personally by star -- which meant its creation was permissible by the system.

bistro waved a hand, causing her digital pad to disappear. she folded her arms as the floor was open to questions. going after kali had made her queries clear seemed to make the most sense.

"to add onto that," bistro started, her palm raised. "how does the guild intend to organize the difficulty of its rumors? ... i suppose the simplest method to achieve this would be through enemies alone. for context, my business has more familiarity with exploring different locations and verifying the existence of quest starters than hunting down notorious monsters themselves. not to say that we don't receive them," she shrugged, "but our objective had always been specialized away from the norm. it's hard to stay in business with direct competitors, otherwise."

Firefly was certainly out of her element here. She didn’t really have much context for gaming and what is meant for guild members to accomplish. Though when she had realized who was coming into the meeting she would relax, letting out a quiet sigh of relief. Everyone here seemed nice, but seeing Wulfrin and Bistro actually set her anxiety down.

“I also have a forge on Floor 22 and will hopefully be setting up a smaller operation here for guild mates to stop by and get gear made at no cost."

Firefly would perk up and remove the massive sword from her back, still in its scabbard of course. “Oh! Yes! I haven’t had a chance to use the cross-blade yet but it looks absolutely gorgeous, Wulfrin. I will ensure your hard work isn’t wasted.

Once their meeting would get underway, Firefly would partake in the croissants provided by Siren’s friend. Morningstar would go on to explain the task of their guild which all seemed to boil down to one thing: Information collection. The goal was very simplistic at its core and it didn’t seem like she would need to know the game well to participate. Not only that but it aligned well with her own motive too. Once the explanation of the board was was finished, she would approach with her physical notebook that appeared from her inventory to her hand(yeah she had that thing quick slotted) and start taking notes on any of the rumors that looked interesting enough to check out later.

Will there be a lot of variety to these?” The girl would ask, excitement welling in her smile and eyes. Her eagerness could not be contained. “I want to see every inch of Aincrad’s wonders.

  • 4 weeks later...

Siren gave a small nod to Morningstar, "Thank you, Oh Fearless Leader. Great to meet everyone here." As she listened to him introduce himself, something clicked in her mind. She recognized him from somewhere. Where do I know him from? She couldn’t quite place it, but she had a feeling he was someone well-known. Maybe a celebrity. "Well, Star, I don’t have any questions right now, but if you need someone to help decorate, I’m your gal." Her voice softened, the sultry lilt in her accent growing as she spoke. As she would turn to each person, and wave at them softly and sweetly as the time came for them to speak and ask their questions.

She turned to Wulfrin, who sheepishly admitted he’d forgotten his wife’s snacks on the counter. Siren clicked her tongue in mock scolding. "Really, sug? My goodness." But her smile showed her amusement, especially as Wulfrin posed a thoughtful question about quotas, which she hadn’t considered before. It would be interesting to see how that was handled.

When the conversation shifted to Ciela, Siren smiled at Kali. "Oh yes, darlin’. Ciela’s a cook, both here and in real life. She bakes in the game, but out there, she does it all." She paused, realizing she may have said more than she’d intended. She wasn’t even sure if Wulfrin knew she and Ciela were friends in real life. Well, too late now.

As the conversation moved along, she listened to Bistro’s question with a thoughtful smile. Everyone’s asking such good questions, she mused. Meanwhile, I got nothin'.

Then came Firefly’s turn. She seemed full of energy, and Siren found herself smiling at her nickname, which she’d chosen due to her love for fireflies in the summer. Firefly had another solid question, and Siren chuckled to herself. "Dang, still nothing," she muttered, enjoying the dynamic of the group.

Curiosity started tugging at her again as she watched Morningstar. She still couldn’t shake the feeling that she knew him from somewhere. Finally, she cleared her throat, her eyes sparking with curiosity. "I have a question that isn't guild related. Star, you seem really familiar to me.
