History

Reveal hidden contents The Real World Svenja was born in Tokyo, Japan, to a middle class family that was focused on a singular purpose: the continued growth and development of her future. From a young age she was expected to not only excel in school, but to obtain and hold the top positions in whatever she was enrolled in; whether that be educational or extracurricular activities. Striving to impress her parents and associate family members, Svenja quickly found herself pushing harder and harder to overcome the various challenges she faced; from studying long hours, engaging in various sports and activities that strained her body, and eventually finding herself hated by classmates and teammates alike. All of it took a toll on the young girl, who eventually drew away from it all. On the summer of her fourteenth birthday, Svenja found herself breaking down mentally from the strain of her continuous pressure; her family forced to accept that they had driven her to a breaking point and giving her the time away she needed. For the next year, Svenja found herself relocated to her mother's family in Bielefeld, Germany. While continuing her studies at a slower pace, in order to not fall behind, Svenja was moved into a new stream of thinking and engagement - one which drew her towards a more expansive form, and brought her into the considerations of what she wanted from life.  Upon her return to Japan, Svenja had changed - a fact that her parents disliked. Considered corrupted by the effects of her mother's family, Svenja found herself forgoing a foray of the various educational and extracurricular activities that her parents had once forced her to engage in, instead focusing on those that she found thrilling for herself. Drawn to the expressive arts, and the combative sports, Svenja was eventually pulled into a world that was one her parents feared and dreaded - the world of fantasy and exploration. It was during her sixteenth summer that she first engaged in activities known as Live Action Roleplaying, and it was from here that her interests into the forms of video games grew.   Entry & Exploration Sword Art Online was Svenja's first gaming experience, a virtual world that promised more than any Live Action Rolepalying experience could offer. She had bought the game at the advise of those she had engaged with in the real world, excited at the prospect of further exploring something wonderful and thrilling - and yet she found herself caught up in a mess that she hadn't expected. Her first few moments of exploration into Aincrad proved to be nearly fatal, as she stumbled and fumbled through the oddness of controlling a virtual version of herself, flailing about until a friendly stranger dared to give her assistance. It was in this moment that Svenja - taking on the online visage of her character from her Live Action Roleplaying days of Yume - met her first online friend. Known to her simply as Nissa, the player took Svenja through a variety of basics, teaching her the introductory knowledge she would need to at least be able to navigate the digital world. Hours had passed as the two explored the Town of Beginnings and the very edges of the fields beyond its walls, laughing as they learnt how much they had in common.   The Announcement & Aftermath The announcement and confirmation of their circumstances left the ten thousand players in a panic - a mass of emotions rolling over each and every single one who had been gathered and informed. Svenja found herself among those who were shocked into a state of frozen panic. The realisation that she would be unable to escape, to leave the world and return home, left her unable to think or react. It was only the shaking and shouting of Nissa that brought Svenja out of her daze, and back into the present moment.  The hours after the announcement were a blur to Svenja as she followed Nissa through the streets of the Town of Beginnings, dragged about as her newly found friend explained what needed to be done. Looking back, Svenja knew that it was only due to Nissa's direction and guidance that she had managed to survive in those tense moments, to not lose control completely. She was thankfully for everything her friend had done, during those early hours, dragging her to a point where she was able to cope and gain control over herself. Present Day Following the shock of the announcement and everything that followed, Svenja had driven herself to do the one thing that she could - reach for the top. Competitive in nature, and socialable to a degree, she had focused on the two things that she knew would allow her to push forward - getting better at the game, and making friends. Her personable nature, while chilling at times and somewhat grating to those who were less than used to her behaviours, allowed her the chance to gain the trust of many lower level players. Her inexperience with the virtual world, however, left Svenja at a disadvantage. She was clumsy with a sword, incapable with a heavier axe or poled weapon, and incapable of standing before the blows of various creatures that simply tossed her tiny frame. She quickly learnt that all her skills in the real world wouldn't transfer over, and that she would have to start from the ground up in order to make her way in Aincrad. None of that held her back, however, and as Svenja continues to fight towards the top, she finds herself learning new things each day...

Reveal hidden contents Honesty. For better or for worse, Svenja believes that honesty in entirety is the only way to communicate. Although she sometimes finds herself revealing too much information to others, she has always worn her heart on her sleeve, leaving secrets behind and providing others with the truth - whether they want to hear it or not. Although commended for her honesty, many have found the habit to be detrimental in their dealings, both for themselves and for Svenja.  Loyalty. While she has always had a troubled past with creating and maintaining relationships, Svenja believes that loyalty to those whom you partner is paramount. Svenja has, during her time in Aincrad, developed the belief that those who agree to spend time with her are worth protecting. When given the opportunity, Svenja has proven her loyalty through her determination to help and protect those who trust her, as few as they may be.  Bravery. While fear may surround her heart, Svenja is generally the first to step up and face danger when it presents itself. Capable of pushing down the fear that grips herself and others, she often attempts to instill her bravery on those around her - generally through her sheer presence. Though it may not be obvious through first interactions, Svenja has proven her bravery in various minor fights that she has engaged in, as simple as they may be.  Assertiveness. Svenja contains the ability and self-determination to set goals, and follow through with them. Unhindered by the opinions of others, or their questioning of her actions, she pushes forwards until her task is complete. Capable of focusing only on the task before her, she strives to success - no matter the cost.

Reveal hidden contents Communication. Years of focusing on her own growth, development and success has left Svenja harsh in her communication methods. Although she may mean well, often times her nature comes through aggressively, pushing her ideals on others and focusing on completing the challenge before her - no matter the cost to others. This often comes across in her communication, where many often think that she isn't listening to their opinions, rather than realising she is simply focused on success.  Harsh. Svenja is a happy individual by nature, always wearing a smile on her face and quick to laugh. She is so joyful, however, that she often doesn't stop to consider how it may impact others negatively - going so far as to laugh at ideas that are shared, and ignoring the impact that may have on them. Her communication methods and behaviours often come across as harsh to others, even if she means well by them. Stubborn Determination. No matter the challenge that Svenja faces, she does so with pure determination to over come it. What many don't know, is that she does this in order to help and appease others, going so far as to give up for herself that which could benefit another. More often than not, this has been mistaken for her selfless and caring nature, a mistake which leads to a darker secret.
