Oh, the joke just, totally flew over the girl's head. The ginger hottie seemed to get it, though. The boy left after digging down to rock, though Colette wasn't sure why he left or what his motive was.

The girl introduced herself as Acanthus, and the ginger as Jomei. She then offered Colette an opportunity to speak. This is an opportunity she wouldn't dare miss. With one hand on her hip, a grin on her face, topping it all off with a wink, she'd begin with an introduction. "I'm glad you asked! Here in this game, I go by Colette, I thought it would be a nice, cute choice of name. Nice to meet you both too! I may be just a delicate flower, but at least I'm pretty handy with making some nice accessories." She then looked to Acanthus thoughtfully, as if analyzing her for a quick second. "Speaking of which, I think I might know something that would look really cute on you." She added. She then noticed a crystal poking out of the sand as she was turning her head to try talking to Jomei next. She picked up the crystal and looked to Jomei. "And I'm sure a strong, good looking guy like yourself wouldn't have too much trouble around here in this nasty, dangerous world, right?" She remarked.

@Acanthus @Jomei

He fell back, crystal in hand, and sunk into the sand. Occasional splashes of waves soaked the sleeve of his shirt, but he didn't mind. He followed along with the white clouds that floated by, sometimes dropping his gaze to Willow. She was still about ankle deep, crouching as low as she could without getting her shorts wet. Something was in her palms—a shell or a crab, maybe. From behind, he couldn't tell what she was thinking. He huffed, climbing to one knee.

"Will you marry me?"

Maybe he had taken in too much sunlight for one day, but in that moment, his words rang clear.

Willow spun, a red flush growing in her cheeks. "What? Now? Here?" She stammered, dropping the whatever-it-was back into the water.

Star wasn't sure what to say. "Uh," he cleared his throat, "no. Like, later. After Christmas, maybe. In the Spring?"

Instead of a ring, he held out the blue crystal, deciding that Zandra wouldn't notice one missing rock. Willow was quiet, as if frozen in a single frame. Star's chest tightened; he was right back in that awkward crowd of players, his mind blank.

Until she said yes. A dozen times, yes.

He blinked, standing to meet her in the water, lifting her into an unbidden embrace as the waves lapped against them. Saltwater clung to their skin, the sun warmed their backs, and for a moment, the distant party fell away.

she watches her for a second more, silent.

on her worst days, an is the type of person who believes that everything is out to mete judgment on her. this is far from it, far from anything that mishiro can still recall, but her mind makes the match-pair equivalent when an snaps her head up and her red eyes trace mishiro upwards from her shadow. an levels her with a misdirected glare. "um." an starts, measured and hesitant. "can you help me finish the sandwiches...?"

Acanthus excused herself from the group quickly and quietly. Although she would sooner die than admit it to strangers, she found herself irked that she had been outpaced by a child. Try as she might tell herself to grow up and move on, Acanthus caught herself looking over her shoulder at the boy’s impressive project. What I need is a change of scenery. Acanthus hoisted her shovel and continued her perfectly spaced rows, further away from the tables aaaand maybe not, that looks like Morningstar over there, he seems to be having a moment.

Everyone appeared to be having lots of wonderful moments. The group she had just left seemed to be getting along very well. Another group of people Acanthus had not introduced herself were locked in the ritual of “just a little too much eye contact.” Whether they knew it or not, unspoken feelings were forming in the space between their glances. Whether it was love or not was up to them.

Acanthus made a disgruntled noise. Her scavenging efforts were being boxed in by lovebirds and flirts. For the briefest of moments, she debated swallowing her pride and joining the young child in his enviable endeavor to dig out of here. But the quest parameters hadn’t changed—find the crystals. Every last one.

It’s time to practice being flexible, she concluded. Stowing the shovel, she scanned the treeline for any leads on crystals. Eliseris had the same idea as well—she popped out of the highest branches of a tree, red crystal in her grasp. Then I’ll go low. Moving her gaze about five meters west of Eliseris, the brush in that direction looked promising. Lots of heavy undergrowth that could easily hide a crystal or two. Maybe even a transparent one.

Dropping to her hands and knees, Acanthus scrambled into the undergrowth with renewed zeal. She lamented her attire: why had she decided on a swimsuit and large hat when she knew there was a scavenger hunt? If only she had time to go home and change. The prickly leaves of the oversized saltbush snagged at her swimsuit cover, causing her to stop and untangle herself at times. Hopefully the undergrowth was heavy enough to not only hide crystals, but her repeated, awkward attempts to shake off the wiry plant.

All thoughts of decorum washed away in the faint blue light before her. The small thing beckoned to her, whispered promises of victory in the scavenger hunt. Acanthus snatched up the crystal with a feverish vigor, and immediately popped out of the bush with a failed attempt at nonchalant whistling. After pulling the remaining foliage out of her hair and hat, she smoothed down her outfit and casually worked her way back toward the picnic tables, ever hopeful for an elusive transparent crystal.

Because Mishiro was still right in her guess that An said things she didn't mean in the heat of the moment. Because An didn't know what to do with herself and her friend who wouldn't leave her alone, then, and in front of her (beside her) was a party sized plate of sandwiches that she had unwittingly swiped from the table. She didn't think she had the energy to put them back. She had just yelled at a girl who was trying to help.

"All of them?" Mishiro suddenly sounded so intimidated that An almost laughed despite herself.

"Yeah." She didn't look away from the waves. "Come on. We've been through buffet experiences so much worse. I just don't think anyone would want food from a plate someone else has already touched."

An imagined Mishiro was still too polite to roll her eyes. She saw a vague movement in her peripheries and heard the rustling of paper as Mishiro peeled back a sandwich's wrapper, careful to not so much as graze any of the food with her bare fingers. An picked up the topmost one after, then she did a double take. Why was the center of the plate glowing a bright alien blue?

"Uh. Mish." An awkwardly spoke up. "I'm sorry. Please actually stop eating. Someone, uh, put a rock under the sandwiches."

Bliss could feel herself slowly returning to a state of calm. Her breathing was steadying, no longer shaky and shallow. The weight in her chest had begun to lift, allowing her to think more clearly. “I-I h-hope t-to o-one d-day h-hear the r-reason,” she said softly, glancing between Astra and Cobean with a grateful but timid smile. “T-Thank you b-both f-for b-being here. I-I d-do l-like b-being a-alone s-sometimes, b-but h-having b-both of y-you h-here seemed t-to c-calm m-me down f-faster t-than usual.” The words tumbled out of her mouth with her usual stammer, but there was warmth in her tone, a genuine appreciation that shone through despite her nervousness.

When Astra reassured her that she was doing great, Bliss couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face. Those words. Simple, but meaningful. It had been so long since anyone had told her that, and it stirred a bittersweet feeling deep within her. Amazing how a few kind words can take you back. Memories of her father flooded her mind, unbidden but welcome. She could almost hear his voice, see his encouraging smile, and feel the warmth of his presence. Pulling her knees to her chest, she let herself linger in the comfort of those memories for just a moment.

Bliss’s attention shifted to Cobean when he spoke. “N-No? W-We j-just m-met sh-shortly after I-I s-split from t-the group.” Her head tilted slightly as she looked at him, her expression curious but not overly concerned. She wondered what he might be thinking. Maybe that’s just how he processes things? I wonder. Hmm. She offered him a small but reassuring smile before her gaze drifted back to the horizon.

It was then she realized her hands were still clutching Astra’s shirt. The same one he had so generously offered her to dry her tears. Her fingers tightened slightly as a wave of embarrassment washed over her. Oh no… Slowly, she turned to Astra, holding his shirt out to him. “T-Thank y-you f-for letting m-me u-use y-your s-shirt f-for m-my tears,” she said, her voice quieter now, almost shy. Her cheeks grew warm as she spoke, and she kept her gaze fixed on his shirt, avoiding eye contact. “I-It w-was a v-very s-sweet g-gesture.” Bliss could feel the blush creeping further up her face, and she silently hoped it wasn’t too obvious.

She focused her attention back on Cobean when he spoke again. His words brought her back to the moment. “I-It s-sure i-is pretty today,” she said in agreement, her voice soft but steady as her blue eyes scanned the horizon. The waves glistened in the sunlight, crashing rhythmically against the shore. This peaceful moment shared with two kind people, it was something she never thought she’d experience again. And yet, here it was. Bliss allowed herself to sink into it, letting gratitude and calm wash over her like the waves at her feet.

the point flies far above her head and lands somewhere in the sand behind her, because in mishiro's assessment, the sandwiches had been fully encased in the plastic wrap anyway. standard practice for snacks that might be left unattended at a refreshment table.

"i see," she says.

they remove the top layer of the sandwich pyramid and uncover the treasure hiding in its hollow: not one blue crystal, but two. mishiro looks at the red crystal beside an's legs and tries to imagine her digging for them whilst running away from the earlier crowd. she takes the new pair and helps an put everything else back in place. "congratulations. but i don't believe this is how we're meant to play scavenger hunt."

in an's increasingly distressed perspective, mishiro does not stop eating because she never listens to her.

"huh? yeah, no, put that down right now!!" an scolds. she reaches for mishiro, but her hand stops short of grabbing her shoulder. she snatches one of the crystals on mishiro's lap instead. "Cobean," Astra repeated when the blue-haired boy pronounced his name. "Nice, I like that." When Cobean extended his hand, Astra offered his in return to complete the handshake. Generally speaking Astra was more used to waving at people as opposed to giving handshakes, and that was due to his ability to overthink the smallest of actions. Was it a good handshake? Was it secure? Firm enough? Too limp? Oh well, in the end it didn't matter, it was just a cordial gesture between the two.

When Bliss had handed Astra's shirt back to him, it had taken a moment for him to register that he'd even be taking it back. When he handed it to Bliss for her tears he had completely abandoned any sense of ownership over the shirt, and considered it hers at that point. She needed it more than he did anyhow. "Oh! Don't mention it," Astra said with a smile as he took the shirt back. He had noticed Bliss looking away, so he didn't want to make her uncomfortable by staring at her, so he turned his attention to the skyline ahead. "I'm happy to help. I hope you're feeling a bit better."

Once there was a brief respite from conversation, Astra mulled over the events at the beach so far. He was making friends and new connections, which was something that filled him with warmth. Originally he wasn't even planning on coming to this event, as he felt like he'd have nobody to socialize with. Nobody would really notice if he was there or not. Here he was though, sitting in the calm waters as the waves lapped around his ankles and wrists. Enjoying the company of Bliss and Cobean.

"Have you both been keeping up with the scavenger hunt? It looks like people are finding crystals. I haven't even looked for one yet." Astra looked towards his companions as he asked his question. Originally Astra was so focused on his conversations with Bliss that he hadn't even started to partake in the search for crystals. Maybe he'd look and see if he could find one or two, but for now he would just soak in the moment and enjoy the company of his new friends.

Zandra sat on one of the tables as her eyes scanned across the area. Most people seemed to have been drawn to the beach, were they thinking she had hid all the crystals under the sand? Well some were there of course. A faint smile appeared on her lips as she opened the screen in front of her. Her eyes darted back and forth to make sure no one was watching her way. She even let out a silent little giggle as her hand danced across the floating screen. She had been waiting long enough now, time to give them all a little surprise. She had made sure there were no wild mobs in the area, but that didn't mean there were any non-wild mobs. “Did they think there would only be a treasure hunt? Well then they don't know who I am or have forgotten who I am.” she said with a smirk as she pressed a button on her screen that said START with big letters.

Suddenly, all the crystals that people had found started vibrating violently. The players that had gone out into the water suddenly got thrown up back on the sand. Those that had entered the forest felt themself being pulled back to the field by some strange force. What the heck were these crystals? They totally were not just some shiny stones. Zandra did another swipe on her screen and three weapon-racks appeared close to the tables. On the first rack, there were more than a dozen different spears. The second one was filled with axes and on the third, there were a bunch of hammers. Zandra pointed at the racks as she shouted. “Guys and girls, you should all come and pick up some weapons. You can take a main one but you can also take a second one to have as backup.” There was plenty of weapons on the racks, so it would easily be enough for everyone to pick two for themself, even if everyone went for same pair. There was also some hard to hear music playing the area.

Pick two weapons, one as main and one as backup:
-Spear
-Axe
-Hammer

If anyone would open their screen they would be met by:

Another crystal! And judging by the reflection, possibly transparent. Acanthus reached through the thick foliage to wrench the thing free. She was so close. If she wasn’t already winning, this would cement her lead for sure. Acanthus stretched her arm as far as it could, grasping at the miniscule glimmer. Her fingertips brushed the smooth surface, and the cool, hard exterior confirmed the crystalline status. “I’ve got you,” she grunted, extending her fingers into the brush as far as they could stretch. “Just hang on and I’ll..."

An unseen force began to pull gently at her waist. “Not now,” she said to no one. “I’m busy.” The pull grew stronger; she lost contact with the crystal. “Hey!” She yelled. “I’m—busy!” The force grew so strong that it pulled her slightly off the ground, trying to drag her back to the picnic tables. Flung a few meters away from her payload, she dug her bare feet into the sandy embankment, attempting to trudge towards the crystal like a mountaineer in a snowstorm. One foot in front of the other. Left; dig in. Right; dig in. Left…

The force grew stronger with each passing second. What exactly was happening? Acanthus couldn’t spare the time to look around, but whatever it was, it was either a prank or it was part of the hunt. But that could wait until she recovered the crystal. Sweating from the effort, she clawed her way back to her original position. Acanthus couldn’t see the glimmer anymore, but she recognized the leafy undergrowth. She must have pushed it deeper into the plants by accident. Not a problem. I just have to find it before the pull gets any stronger. She submerged her ankles in the sand to anchor herself. The force made her feel like the stone in a child’s slingshot, mere moments away from being unleashed.

She could no longer resist the ever-growing tension. With a comical *pop*, her left foot came loose from the sand. In the fraction of a second before her right came free, she thought, god fucking dammit. I was so close too. Hopefully I still won.

The force shot her back to the picnic tables with a vengeance. She bounced once, skidded briefly across the sand, and then spun around two or three times before colliding with one of the (thankfully empty) tables. Acanthus stood up, dazed, confused, and a little annoyed.

“I didn’t enjoy that.”

Their host, Zandra, began to address the group. At the swipe of a finger, racks of weapons appeared.

Quote

“Guys and girls, you should all come and pick up some weapons. You can take a main one but you can also take a second one to have as backup.”

“That’s fine,” she replied. “I have my own weapons, thank you.” She opened her battle inventory, and was confronted with an unusual sight; a brain and a cat doing a silly dance over even sillier music. She waited patiently for the intrusion to stop.

And she waited.

And she waited.

And waited.

She shot a brief, dirty look at Zandra that she hoped nobody saw. Closing the menu, Acanthus looked over her options. Axes weren’t really her thing; spears looked like a good pick. Good distance, simple to use…

But the hammers reminded her of her friend Edict. If swords weren’t an option, maybe she could try these out. It would give them something to talk about next time they met. She tested the weight of the hammer closest to her. A little heavy, but she could get used to it. But she grabbed a spear as backup, just in case.

Fully ready, Acanthus drew up a seat at the picnic table closest to Zandra, and waited to hear what in hell was about to happen.

Oh, they only just met? ...Maybe, this is what happens when people are just kind to each other, with no background knowledge or personal biases? Just humans...being human? Usually stuff like this would draw in looks, especially the shirt thing.

Maybe Cobean should start being more open? Just being calm yet upbeat wasn't enough to truly be himself without all that had happened?
Astra accepted Cobean's handshake, and he positively commented on Cobean's username, too.

It would seem that there were other plans in store for the players, as a wave of force, rather than water, knocked the players over towards inland. "Uwaaaaaaaaaaaagh!"

Cobean's landing might not have been the smoothest, but at least he was unharmed. "Ugh..." He got up, and immediately looked around him to see if Astra and Bliss were around and unharmed as well. "Astra! Bliss! Are you all right?" He asked amidst the fresh chaos.
The hostess would interrupt Cobean's search with her next announcement. She was offering weapons for the players to take, something was clearly going on, but why was she smiling? If there was a need for weapons, wouldn't that insinuate something hostile was around? Cobean reached for his bow, but the system didn't make it appear. He considered opening his menu to get his gear ready, but for whatever reason, something other than the proper SAO menu showed up instead! He was left with little choice but to take one of the offered weapons instead.

It all seemed so...premeditated. No, it couldn't be, who would be so cruel, other than a villainous, sketchy sort? Cobean then made his way over to the racks. If he couldn't use his bow, what did knights use...Ah, spears and polearms, that's right! He grabbed a spear, then he wondered what weapon to take if things didn't go well for him...He wasn't the type pf person to use axes, but if he had to choose between the two different kinds aside from his initial choice, he'd go with the simplistic, more realistic looking hammer.

With both weapon choices made, he made his way over to the field to take position. Along the way, he spotted the lavender scented pinkette from earlier. Well, Cobean thought that more fighters meant a better fight for the players, and who would let such a disruption happen? Who would dare take this lying down? "You!" He called to the girl. Her response seemed to invoke confused innocence of some kind. "Yes, you!" He repeated. "Grab a weapon, something's coming and we need to defend the party!" He explained, from what little he knew and what he believed. The girl seemed to be in disbelief, and considered herself incapable of the task at hand. "The more of us there are, the easier this will be." He noted. "Besides, this game doesn't take your actual physical capabilities into account, anyone can become mighty in a world like this!" He encouraged.

He then went off to take position, hopefully Astra and Bliss have either gotten to safety, or taken up arms themselves for whatever was about to come.

The Crystal she'd picked up began humming. Strange. Eliseris pondered over what this might mean, but everything changed when this crystal, as well as all the others she'd collected, started shaking violently. Something wasn't right.

Before she could ask Adelyte what her theory might be, some kind of force knocked her into the air, towards a certain spot near the tables.

Fall damage would be a terrible and easy way to die. Eliseris intended to suffer no such thing. She made some movements with her limbs, before positioning herself and readying her legs, that upon impact they would bend to absorb the majority of the shock. Landing right beside the tables, she wouldn't land without stumbling afterward, but at least she'd prevented disaster...or, at least, that was what she thought.

The hostess would call for the players' attention to be turned towards the weapon racks, that the players might arm themselves. Eliseris thought to equip something more her speed, but her menu was blocked by what had to be a looping gif. This...wasn't right at all. At least she knew what to do next. She made her way to the racks, but she didn't see very much in the way of her personal preferences. Eliseris could understand if a sudden necessity didn't have much to offer, but this all seemed so...organized. Eliseris was starting to get suspicious, and it looked like she was left with no choice but to take weapons she was unfamiliar with. She needed a polearm that could do more than just stab and thrust, it was pathetic! Perhaps a spear with a longer blade might be able to do the job. "This better do what I need it to do, otherwise we may be screwed over..." She thought. She picked up a dark metal spear with a somewhat long point, hopefully it was sturdy enough to do what most polearms could do. If all else failed, there were other options...so as both a secondary and a backup, she decided to grab the gleaming, double bladed silver axe as well.

She then made her way over to the armed players that were gathering. "I might have some choice words for the hostess later..." Eliseris thought out loud.

First, the crystals began humming as Acanthus got deeper into her search. Colette was about to search herself, but the odd phenomenon happening with the crystals was a call for both caution and suspicion. Crystals don't normally do these kinds of things...maybe they're just magical?

Nope, never mind, the crystals shook violently and Colette found herself getting flung over somewhere.

Colette got back up, somewhat dazed. She shook herself off. "How rude." She began as she dusted herself off the rest of the way. "Of all the nerve..."

She initially wasn't sure what to do, but then the blue haired boy from earlier called out to her. "Who, me?" She asked as she placed a hand on herself, above her chest, unsure why he was looking to her as if asking for help. Turns out, he was asking for her help. "You think that a delicate flower like me would stand a chance? Are you kidding? Look at these noodly little arms! I don't even know what we're dealing with! Besides, I'm sure morale would fall apart if I were killed..."
This did not stop the boy. He even used the factor of game logic to say it wasn't impossible. Colette weighed in her options, then begrudgingly walked over to the weapon racks. Well, at least the kinds of weapons Colette needed weren't already taken. She first grabbed an absurdly big hammer, and positioned it across her back, that it may be ready for use if something went wrong. She then grabbed the largest axe she saw, lifting it as easily as if it were a common stick.

With both weapons now obtained, she just had to wait and see what happens next.

Suddenly, everything went quiet. Among the party guests, four had gotten up to the racks and they had picked up a couple of weapons. Zandra looked across the field, even with her shoutout and the sudden push, there were many that still haven't even reacted to the change of event. It seemed not many were interested in another game. Should she stop it and say there was something interrupting and making it so the enemy isn't spawning? Though she hesitated for too long. The silly music stopped playing. The crystals stopped vibrating and no sound was heard from them anymore.

A movement was seen below the surface of the water. A huge shadow was approaching the beach in an rapid speed until it reached the shallow water just a few meters from the shore. Then out of the water bursted a giant creature. The creature stood almost six meters tall, staring down at the players red shining eyes. Its body was made of water and seemed to be a part of the ocean itself. It also had two long arms that looked like it could easily crush the wooden pier it appeared beside. For several seconds it just stood there while the water that surrounded it continue to twirl. Then it let out a loud screetch that echoed across the field, followed by a low beat and a red crystal appeared above it with the text <<Summer wave>>. It had a long healthbar, but not only that. Under the green one, a blue bar had appeared as well.

197044304_waterelemental.png.1d783889e1d6bcfde3911c558e035490.png

At the same time, a rumbling was heard on the opposite side of the group. Not that far from the group the ground started moving. Just like the water creature, the dirt, grass and tiny bushes started twirling around and shaped into a creature. This second creature was same size as the water monster, thought it had a more humanoid shape, mouthless but with two small, red eyes, starting at the group from the other side. Another red crystal appeared above its head with the text <<Summer quake>>. Just like its water elemental, a blue bar appeared under this ones health bar too. Lastly three <<Boar>> appeared around the grass monster and three <<Crab>> crawled out of the water on the beach. The monsters stared at the humans that just seconds ago had been enjoying a treasure hunt or just some relaxing time in the sun with new and old friends. Zandra looked from the monsters to the weapon racks and then back to the monsters. Not many had picked up any weapon, was she gonna join them herself? No, not yet.

So...nature itself was rising up in protest...or, at least, it seemed that way.

Eliseris had no clue what was going on, but for now, she would fight. After all, she was dragged here by some force, and was unable to use a weapon that wasn't supplied to her. It all felt...odd. But in a nutshell, she felt like she had no other choice in the matter. It was fight or die.

And after all she'd been through before Aincrad...she had no intention of dying here. She gripped the Dark metal spear and went straight for the largest monster on the grass. She had to know what she was up against. She began with a simple, Piercing Thrust of her weapon, aiming for where one would normally find vitals in a humanoid shaped torso. There was no guaranteeing that there would be any, but testing that theory was a good option for the moment.

Monsters rose from the grass and the sea. That's...new.

Was this some kind of territory that the players had stumbled into without realizing it had been claimed? whatever the case, it seemed the players had little choice but to fight or hide, for the party crashers have arrived. Cobean took up his spear, and made for the enemies from the sea. After all, the purple haired girl seemed to already be on it. Were the players around going to split in order to tackle both sides? It seemed effective, but without numbers, the effort won't prove helpful. Regardless, it was time to take charge and save the beach party. "Alright, how to take my approach..." He muttered to himself before taking action. He raised his weapon and charged. "I won't let you go any further, foul beast!" He called out to his enemies. Was he...doing it right? Apparently not, for his piercing thrust just went straight through his target without dealing any damage...it was in the monster, but no damage. Cobean stared blankly and awkwardly at this development.

It was an ocean Water Elemental, what did he expect?

Was Colette really gonna have to get involved? That's like, the last thing she wanted! Everyone was still dazed from the force that pulled everyone out of place...and aside from Colette, there were only three other players who were battle ready, including the blue haired boy who talked her into this.

             So she was fighting. Ugh.
And she didn't have many others to fall back on in case things went poorly, let alone someone die here. Double Ugh!

The monsters rose from the grass and from the sea. Thus did the battle begin. As the players dispersed to pick their targets, Colette growled as she walked angrily to the beach. She didn't have much of a choice anymore. "Stupid monsters, so rudely interrupting the party..." She grumbled under her breath. She really didn't need this right now. She lifted her huge axe into position with both hands, and rushed over to the crabs. She glared at them as they tried to close in. She began her hefty swing, making use of all those points she'd put into her STR stat. "You're making me work!" She called out as she unleashed the full might of her Crescent Cleave, swinging the axe in a semicircle arc that struck all three crabs with enough force, that the impact sent all three crabs flying, in which they all fell back into the sea. While this didn't deter them, and they were likely to just waltz back up onto the beach, Colette intended to send a message with this first impression.

"N-Not r-really," Bliss admitted, shifting the sand beneath her feet. "W-Well, I-I did f-find t-two c-crystals." She held up the small red gems for Astra to see, the sunlight catching their edges and making them gleam. But before she could even finish her thought, the crystals in her hands suddenly began to vibrate violently. "W-Wha—?" Bliss barely had time to react before an invisible force ripped through the air, sending her flying backward. The sudden yank stole the breath from her lungs as she was violently thrown across the sand, tumbling uncontrollably toward the tables in the main area. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Cobean hurtling through the air as well, the same unseen force launching him straight toward the tables. "Cobean!" Bliss cried out, reaching instinctively toward Astra, her fingers grasping at empty space. "Astra!" But there was nothing to hold onto, nothing to stop her momentum.

Her body slammed into the ground, rolling several times before finally skidding to a stop in a cloud of kicked-up sand. The moment she came to a halt, she let out a sharp, frustrated exhale. "Fuck! What the hell!?" she spat, her voice sharper than usual. The fire that suddenly flared in her blue eyes was unmistakable. Gone was the timid stutter, whenever rage or adrenaline took over, her anxieties faded into the background. Pushing herself up, she brushed the sand from her bathing suit and hair, her jaw clenching as she turned her attention to the host of this unexpected chaos. So much for a relaxing day at the beach. Seriously? We were supposed to be enjoying ourselves, not getting tossed around like ragdolls! With narrowed eyes, she stalked over to the weapons, quickly scanning her choices. The spear and the axe caught her attention first. She hesitated for a split second, debating whether she should take the hammer instead, but dismissed the idea. Hammers weren’t her style. To be fair, neither were spears or axes. She was much better with throwing weapons, but she’d have to make do. With a determined huff, she gripped both the spear and axe, rolling her shoulders as she assessed the battlefield.

Her gaze flickered over to Astra and Cobean, making sure they were alright before turning her attention to the now summoned elementals, boars, and crabs. As the others launched their attacks, Bliss wasn’t about to be left behind. Spinning the spear in her right hand, she dashed forward, her eyes locking onto the shifting forms of the elementals. The water elemental was closest. With a quick thrust, she aimed directly at its core, only to watch her attack pass right through its liquid body without so much as a ripple. "Damn it!" she hissed, quickly pulling back before it could retaliate. Of course, it wouldn't be that easy.

Pivoting swiftly, she shifted her focus to the moss-covered elemental instead. Adjusting her grip, she spun the spear once more, switching it to her left hand before driving the tip straight into the creature’s chest. The impact sent a shudder through her arm, and as she yanked the weapon free, bits of moss and plant matter fluttered to the ground. That’s more like it. Not wanting to lose momentum, she turned her attention to the boar next. The sharp edges of her spear would be perfect for what she had in mind. With a well-practiced motion, she pulled her spear back and slashed at the creature, the blade carving a clean wound into its side. Two out of three. Not bad. But she wasn’t about to get cocky. Her grip tightened on the spear as she prepared for whatever came next. "Alright, who's next?" she muttered under her breath, looking over to the pretty girl with the red hair.

Surf was up. Literally.

As the waters and earth formed and approached the party, Acanthus was surprisingly quick to dispel her concerns of death. Being locked out of her inventory and seeing monsters in a safe zone made her think this was all some kind of elaborate event. Zandra’s knowing smile cemented that idea in her mind. Nevertheless, she wanted to stay cautious. So as four of the partygoers held off the monsters, Acanthus wanted to confirm her thoughts. She laid her left hand softly on the table, and smashed it with the hammer.

What happened next was difficult to describe. The purple <<Immortal Object>> dialogue she was used to seeing formed for a brief second before the hammer crashed through it and connected with her hand. Her pain indicators were asleep on the job. Instead, the silly music that played when she couldn’t connect to her inventory briefly erupted in her ears, causing her head to vibrate. She clutched her head in an attempt to stop the music. I think I’d prefer actual pain. Steadily, the music disappeared, and when Acanthus looked at her health bar, it confirmed her suspicion. No one was dying over this fight.

Acanthus hefted the hammer and approached the summer quake. A girl with purple hair had already scored a few deadly hits on the creature, and now it fixated on her.

As good a place to help as any. “On your left,” Acanthus called out to the girl, stepping into the quake’s blind spot. Mimicking her smash from earlier, Acanthus brought the hammer down on the creature’s arm. It hissed as the steel connected, popping a few mossy sinews out of place. A few more hits left the creature reeling, unable to lash out at Acanthus or the purple girl. Acanthus talked over her shoulder, keeping a wary eye on the elemental. “I’m sure you have this under control, but frankly I’d rather be hitting dirt than water. I hope you don’t mind the intrusion.”
