An could think of nothing more fulfilling. And Cardinal had just given her the perfect opportunity to try. A mini event of some kind had dropped with the latest update: the game wanted a mechanic tested before it officially rolled out and An's build fit the requirements. It promised currency for a certain number of encounters concluded with the 'beta test' option switched on, and though no amount of hassling her info broker had yielded any hint as to what the currency was actually intended for, An was nothing if not an appreciator of cool but useless things. She decided to close up shop for the day. Teleporting to Floor 25, she picked up a hefty amount of chalk from the first NPC that she found offering it. Somewhere in the maze there was a chunk of extremely valuable rock with her name on it. An stuck her hand out to the side near the turn of the first corner, pressing the stick of chalk to the wall and a long line trailed behind her for every step that she walked. She did not lift it and the line remained continuous. She peeked out of every corner for danger but other than simply following the 'right' way to navigate the maze, she was not really concerned. With only the barest amount of steel in her armor, the merchant looked as feeble as a badly invested DPS -- but really, she could get tossed a hundred meters and walk it off just fine. Besides, what was there to worry about? An was Level 20; Tier 3. -> Endless Maze: 234596: CD 5 Edited October 7 by Andromeda

It was even more repulsive in his hand than it was attached to the body. Thick hairs spanned its entirety, varying in shades of silver and grey. Was he supposed to cook it first? It wasn't his profession; breaking the item was a concern, and his only source of fire was a sword art. He gulped in preparation and pulled it in for a bite of the fleshiest part. Before his teeth could touch it, it slipped through his grip, phasing like a ghost. It fell slowly, like a feather in the breeze; all the while, he was trying his best to grab hold of it once again. No luck. It touched the ground, and an explosion of blue pixels covered him from head to toe. "FUCK!" Star shouted into the void. That was lunch. Or dinner. It was hard to tell in the maze. The sky was the only consistent thing there—a grim cloud that went on forever, and a dim sun that never seemed to set. It wasn't so bad. At least he didn't have to check "eat phase spider" off his bucket list—although, it wasn't even the grossest thing on his list of labyrinth delicacies. He gave the number one spot to a darkling he killed off a day or so prior (again, hard to tell). This one was a minotaur, and its meat was horrendous. He wasn't sure hamburgers could stay on the menu at the guild hall. His hunger came and went. Usually, he could find something to tide him over; a snake or a dragon. When he couldn't, he was thankful that starvation wouldn't kill him. He spent all of his time walking or resting. There wasn't much else to do in a maze. Where was a teleport crystal when he needed one? Or, you know—the chalk he forgot to buy in Lite'tara. He turned corner, after corner, after corner, with no exit in sight. He wondered what the record was for time spent in the labyrinth. Surely, something would get the jump on him and he would be killed, or turned into a Lost One, or be resurrected as an undead before he could find a way out. A trillion and one fun things could happen to someone lost in the Endless Maze. "FUCK!" Star shouted again. -> Endless Maze: 234637: CD
Andromeda 0 Posted October 7 Author #3 Share Posted October 7 (edited) The rock(?) had decided to yell at her first(??). An slid to a stop at the first echo of the most wholehearted "FUCK!" she had ever heard, and so did the line of her chalk. Her head tipped upwards to the pallid sky as though it would give her answers. Then the shout came again, bouncing down the walls of the labyrinth. It was close. She was mostly aimless in her wandering, other than keeping to the wall where she was pressing her chalk, so she decided to examine the only point of interest that had presented itself so far. Scoring the end of the line with a slash that indicated her new direction, An pulled away from her intended route. Sound traveled far in this maze. An walked for much longer than she expected. Nothing jumped out of the fog to scare her, no other sight presented itself other than endless towering gray walls. It was monotony and paranoia that could drive anyone mad. She would have turned back around after the first ten minutes -- had she not turned the last corner and found what looked like the source of the sound itself. The man was ruffled in appearance. Miserable and weary behind shaded glasses. A green cursor hovered atop his head, and for that alone, An nearly shot forward to ask him how she could help, but she remembered the information her broker had fed to her when she mentioned her trip to Floor 25. The labyrinth is different for every player that enters. All attempts to map it failed. You weren't supposed to encounter players outside of your party in this maze, and Cardinal liked its tricks. Isn't there an entire quest around entities taking on players' appearances down to the smallest detail? Then two others ripping out memories that you thought only you were privy to? An but stared at the other, not hostile, but clueless as to how to proceed. "A-are you the rock? Oh. Awh, bloody hell." An's old drawl slipped past her practiced accent as her red eyes went upwards. Far, far above the person she was addressing. "That looks more like a rock." A shadow fell over the pair. "GRAAAAGHHH!!" There was a burning hot axe in her hand where a second earlier there hadn't been, and with a force that sent her bowing forwards, she hurled it over the player(? she supposed this was a player now)'s head. The thrown weapon hit the Umbral Giant's head with a loud THUNK and though it bounced off, the massive creature was now dazed and its hair was on fire. Perhaps corrupted down to its roots too. The poor bloke would never grow another strand for the rest of its life. How long it had to lament this was up to the two. Its health bar was barely dented. True to her build, An marched towards the mob without hesitation, palm spread open to accept another axe from her endless supply. She had a teleport crystal and some heals for emergencies, but judging by the other player's appearance, he didn't seem equally blessed. "Uh. Morningstar 0 Posted October 7 #4 Share Posted October 7 Footsteps bounced from wall to wall; Morningstar's sword materialized in his grip. Cautiously, he stood from his knelt position, eyes locked on the corner of the wall. He tried to guess what was coming. It could have been anything, really. The steps were too quiet for a dragon, but they didn't carry the chittering sound of a phase spider. They sounded very... human. He charged a sword art the moment it rounded the corner. A Lost One—about 5'6" and weaponless. She was probably some poor player who had gotten lost in the maze. Sounded familiar. No. Wait. Green cursor. Not only that, but she could talk. "Am I a rock? What?" Did he look like a rock? He glanced over his hands, checking for stone skin, only to find that his shadow had grown awfully large. Oh my god, am I a rock? No, he was not a rock. The roar of the giant sent a shiver down his spine. It must have spawned right behind him—how else could it have snuck up on him without a sound? Dammit. A Lost One and a giant at the same time. No, wait. She was a player. Right. Don't kill the player. Kill the giant. "Damage? Yeah, I'm okay." Star kicked off, weaving around two slow punches. He swished his blade through one arm, and then again through the other. Both exploded as they impacted the ground, leaving it to roar furiously. It kicked at him, which he responded to with a stab to the gut. It fell to the ground, paralysis coursing through its body. He hummed, kneeling before it. "Maybe I'm not that good." Andromeda 0 Posted October 9 Author #5 Share Posted October 9 (edited) His 'not that good' damage was easily above ten times the small chunk she had just dealt. DPS brains must simply be wired different. "Okay, okay." Chanting beneath her breath, she jogged up to the stunned mob, another axe appearing in her hand. Against a stationary downed target, An didn't see the need to throw. "Lemme just--" She heaved her burning weapon overhead and swung half her entire body weight downwards, like an extremely stressed lumberjack taking it out on a piece of wood, only the wood was the neck of a living, breathing thing. THUNK. The axe bounced off and dissolved without dealing any damage. The vibrations from the blow rattled An down to her teeth. Right. Hard as a rock(?). The Umbral Giant, whose hair was still on fire, growled as it picked itself up and towered once again over the pair. "Uh oh." An backed off, dismayed, but she wasn't sure where to put herself. Morningstar 0 Posted October 10 #6 Share Posted October 10 Star sliced high before the giant could retaliate. He didn't try collecting any of its meat. It was too human to be appetizing. He was content with starving for another day if need be. His blade vanished with their foe. "I hate giants. They remind me of Oliver." He peered at the girl. She was not a lost one, nor did she look anything like a darkling. But it didn't make sense. People weren't supposed to run into other people in the maze. Maybe he was lucky. He gave her arm a light poke. "You're real, right? I'm not hallucinating?" Star's eyes narrowed. "I feel like I recognize you from somewhere." Was that supposed to be her line? Suddenly very trusting, Star reached out his hand. "Morningstar. Sorry. Everything wants to kill me in here.
