Sure. |Message @/Rhys >> SYSTEM has: attached documents(s): [BACKSTORY] & [VIRTUES AND FLAWS] Spoiler Born in Mumbai, India before immigrating to Nagoya, Japan at a young age, Keitaro’s early childhood can be safely described as terribly mundane. He had no siblings, and much of his extended family had chosen to stay behind in his homeland. His parents were kind and loved him more than he could describe in words, but they inevitably stayed out of the picture for much of his younger years due to the pressure of maintaining a stable household income in a foreign country. So for a fraction of his life, he had no one but himself. He did his best with what he had, often staying home without making a fuss and preferring solitude after finding out children his age were too loud and too critical of strangers who didn’t sound exactly like them. Instead, he read books and drew pictures– things normal children would do, really– all from the solace of his home. It was terribly mundane, but he preferred it this way. He grew up. Seasons came and went, and the wall next to his front door marked a new height every time the leaves started to fall from the trees. With time, his tongue was no longer tied with impossible foreign syllables, and the second language now came to him like a steady stream. School years passed by with nothing noteworthy to remember outside of the friends or two he made with each accumulating year. The classes were easy, and he excelled in the academic setting– but not enough to be considered a genius. He joined the clubs that interested him and avoided the ones that didn’t, quickly becoming a jack of all trades as he amassed a number of random skills under his belt yet inevitably mastering none. His life lacked the thrill that so many sought, but by the time he made it to junior high school, he found that he preferred it this way. Then the diagnosis came. It started with the occasional stumble. He chalked it up to his recent growth spurt. Days of uneven walking had turned into weeks of slip-ups and scraped knees. Pained sounds soon followed every vertical movement and it wasn’t long before he found himself to be out of breath with every simple action. Keitaro doesn’t remember much about the day both he and his parents finally had enough and made a trip to the hospital, only that it ended with muffled crying and a numbing feeling invading his veins as he watched the doctor’s lips move soundlessly. There was no need to hear what they had to say after the first few words, and he preferred it this way. At fourteen years old, Keitaro had come to terms that his life was already half over– perhaps even more than that. He would probably die sooner than his friends and his parents– before the next two decades were even done– and there was nothing he could do about it but continue marching through life. He didn’t scream or cry, nor did he beg and pray to a god for a miracle. He simply sat in his hospital bed for a few days before eventually being allowed to leave and continue his shortened life with the added bonus of some medication and braces should his legs and arms start to worsen. He continued with his days like nothing had happened, but it didn’t change the fact that something did happen. A new voice in his head told him that he should make the last half of his life worth living, that he should make the most of what he’s got left, but he quickly squashed it before it could infest the rest of his brain. I will live on my own terms, he then decided. His looming fate will not hinder him, and he will proceed with his life as he intended. He preferred it this way. More years came and went. Friendships bloomed beautifully and then died miserably. Each new spring marked new life, and yet he grew weaker every time the trees started to flower. His own life had passed by in a whirlwind of colors that took the shape of vivid memories. By his twentieth birthday, he had been confined to a wheelchair, and by his twenty-third, a bed. The friends that stayed visited. The ones that didn’t didn’t. He was often alone, but he didn’t feel lonely. There were more than enough things to occupy his time with. That was all Sword Art Online was supposed to be at first– a time filler. Something to make the hours go by as the clock ticked closer and closer to the date of his death. He had mused to the poor friend helping him put on the NerveGear for the first time that it’d be funny if he died while in the game. Perhaps, that way, his consciousness would be forever stuck there and at least one part of him would continue living. They didn’t laugh, and neither did he. Maybe, was his final thought as he was transported into a world he couldn't escape from– free from the pain and misery of his reality–, he preferred it this way. Spoiler [STRAIGHTFORWARD] [+] While not particularly expressive nor talkative, Styx has no trouble speaking his mind– often choosing to do so in order to avoid any unwanted mistakes and conflict. He’s direct with his approach; he speaks up when he is displeased, sincere when he gives his compliments, and genuine when he weeps. By now, he has learned that there is little he has to gain from being deceptive and vague in both reality and this digital world. After all, time is precious, and he’d rather not have the limited amount he has left go to waste for something as trivial as a misunderstanding. [MULTI-SKILLED] [+] Styx is a man of many skills yet very little talent. He works hard at what he does, and it’s evident in the plethora of various abilities he’s acquired over the years, both in the game and out. He’s a quick learner, and if he puts his mind to it, it won’t take long for him to fully grasp a material or concept; however, his passion does not extend past his interests, and where he lacks in passion is inevitably where he’ll fall short. [SELF-AWARE] [+] Observant in nature, it is only reasonable that Styx has a good grasp of his own strengths and shortcomings. That– paired with the large time windows where he’s had moments to self-reflect– has allowed him to acutely understand how his mind and body ticked. He calms himself down when he’s overwhelmed and reacts accordingly when he starts to feel himself crumble. Styx understands all too well how emotions can be a slippery slope, and he’s eager not to let himself go down that rabbit hole. [AMBITIONLESS] [-] Even prior to his diagnosis, Styx had never been one to have many goals in his life outside of being comfortable and happy. He works hard, but it is often in the moment and serves no greater purpose than to fill time and fulfill a two-second-long fixation. Not much has changed since he found out his life had been effectively cut in half. He still has no desire to make a name for himself, nor does he wish to spend the rest of his days cramming in new experiences that he has no sentiment for. He wants to live like he always has– out of the way and uncomplicated. [NONCHALANT] [-] Styx is no emotionless robot, but much of his life had been spent living in indifference. He has little opinion on matters that do not affect him, often choosing to go with the flow of other’s decisions rather than his own. His indecisiveness nature can be pleasant to some and unpleasant to others, and he doesn’t seem to go out of his way to change this behavior unless he deems it necessary. Styx recognizes it’s a double-edged sword– to not be bound by your emotions but unconcerned with everything else–, however, he has not the motivation nor the time to make such a change. [CARELESS] [-] Styx is a special case, and he knows it. He may not be doomed to the game now, but he is surely doomed the longer he stays in it. The fear of death has long left him by now– where he perhaps only has a handful of years left before his demise. As a result, his decisions may be on the riskier side despite what he may say to refute that– an unconscious decision, perhaps? However, let it be clear that he does not seek an early death and his sense of self-preservation is still very intact, but if he had a choice, he’d seek a death where he is in control of his own body. |Message @/SYSTE HP: 20/20 | EN: 20/20 | DMG: 4 @/Rhys 12/4/2021 1:05 AM m so tired Rhys?
