She looked up to the sky and sighed. She knew as long as she aims to fight in the frontline, she'd need a good weapon. Being in the military had spoiled her, because her mind is fixated at specific stats she'd wants for her weapon: Precision and mobility. The more hit lands, the more hurt it'd be. She gotta keep on moving in the battlefield. Linger any longer than a second, she'd be sitting duck. Now which weapon fits that box? A rapier? No, too stabby. She'd rather to slash. Shortsword or a long one? Maybe but she feels like it slows her down a bit. A curved sword? Scimitar? She laughs at that thought. She's no pirate. She gasped. Whispered a first word comes out of her soft lips, "Katana." Edited November 2 by Oats Edited LD
Shay 0 Posted October 23 #2 Share Posted October 23 (edited) The assassin in the shadows hid from view of the NPCs that lived their daily digital lives and the players were either too scared or unmotivated in the face of death to do anything to deal with their problems. She was one of those people maybe around a year ago. Times have changed for her, however. Watching these players go about her business, she was reminded of time that she was weak and others helped her. Times where she’s tried to be helpful but to not much avail, genuinely being nothing but a harasser or difficult to agree with person. "Katana." She would hear another player speak aloud. At first she thought they were speaking to her, having two of them strapped to her side. But when her eyes found the person in question, they seem to have just spoke to themselves. She watch intently to see what they did next. ID#236265 | LD: 8+5 Shay is hidden and can be revealed with a detection roll of 14 or higher. Oats 0 Posted October 23 Author #3 Share Posted October 23 (edited) #PH ID:236274 | LD 5 + 1 | Attempt to find hidden Shay | Failed! Oats suddenly looked down and doing a swiping downward gesture to bring up her main menu interface. She kept clicking and swiping until she found what she's looking for but... her face frowned as she reads the requirement for the katana. Even if she gets the Rank 1 Curved Sword skill, she STILL has to obtain yet another skill just for katana. What a drag. But then again, it'll be worthwhile. She puts her hand on the chin, being lost in her thoughts on how to do it. Would she need to find a quest? Trainer? If only she has a strategy guide like her bunkmate would have for all of her games. Oh wait. She couldn't recall Ellie having a physical guide for SAO. Being a hardcore gamer Ellie would have one. Maybe guides tend to be released at later date? She shook her head. Gotta focus on the objective. Edited October 23 by Oats Edited LD
Shay 0 Posted October 23 #4 Share Posted October 23 The assassin would sigh quietly. Baldur once taught her and it seemed like now was the time for her to step in and be someone else’s mentor. She herself wasn’t nearly as practiced as her mentor but she could at least help them unlock the skill. Yatsufusa screeched in agony as its owner forced it from its home and into the sky. Steel pierced stone and a shaded black hair of a woman curtained her face momentarily as the wind settled from her blinding speed. She balanced carefully on the exposed hilt like a ninja, bending down in a crouched form to her soon-to-be student. “Katana? Like this one?” Nodding down to the groaning blade emitting a purple hazy hue, like that of plague and death. “What about it?” Stealth Dispersed.
Oats 0 Posted October 23 Author #5 Share Posted October 23 (edited) She gasped softly as a girl suddenly appear as fast as a gust of wind and whispered “Katana? Like this one? What about it?" right next to her head. Thanks to her military training she didn't flinch at all. She swirled around to look at what the mysterious girl was indicating. Oh man, the katana with undying glow of purple hazy of hers look dead gorgeous!! She suddenly found herself couching to take a better look at it. "Yep! Exactly like this." She beamed a grin before stood back up, "Well not exactly since I'm definitely not at your level but a basic katana is what I'm looking for. I want to start on a better than just a good weapon. I have plan in my mind and need solid gears for it. Would you help me? Or at least point a direction for me?" She asked with a secret excitement arose inside her. With a katana she'd finally start to forge her path through the Aincrad and staying ahead. Edited October 23 by Oats
Shay 0 Posted October 23 #6 Share Posted October 23 Shay observed as the player inspected one half of her arsenal. “I cannot help you acquire one. I can however, teach you how to use one to allow you to unlock the skill.” She’ll respond stepping down from her blade and turning towards the closest route outside the safe zone leaving the blade for Oats to pick up. ”Come along, bring Yatsufusa that sword.” She’ll almost demand. If they were to put her to the test they would need to see legitimate combat. Honestly she had no idea why she was wasting her time with this. There was hardly any experience to be gained from it and it wasn’t like she was a kinda person, but then she remembered what she’d thought about Ancanthus not long ago. She wasn’t heartless. Teaching a budding player when they’re right in front of her instead of letting them die to boars was the better outcome.
Oats 0 Posted October 23 Author #7 Share Posted October 23 (edited) Bring it?? She nervously looked down at the bloody red hilt of this... Yatsufusa, huh. Sound like a myth legend. She slowly reached the sword handle and tugged it out of the stone floor. It surprisingly light. She gave it one swing to test it. The handling is very easy, exactly what she looked for in weapons! Will be a huge game-changer in a battle. Now she's quite happy with the mental choice. She looked toward the direction where that girl was heading and realized the girl is nearly gone. "Hey wait!!" She ran after her with the katana in tow. The girl would kill her if she got lost WITH her weapon!!! When she finally caught up with the girl, she gave out a silent sigh hoping the girl wouldn't catch that. So far girl seems doesn't know that she almost fell behind. She jogged to walk next to her and said, "Thank you for helping me unlocking the skill. I do appreciate it, I mean, I don't know where to start." After paused for a second, she asked, "Yatsufusa. Did you give it a name or is it how you found it?" Wondering if she'd need to come up with a name for her new katana. Edited October 23 by Oats
Shay 0 Posted October 23 #8 Share Posted October 23 Shay did in fact notice that the girl was trailing behind her without even turning back. As attentive as she was she would never rely solely on her sight in combat which has translated into everyday life. She would allow her to catch up by slowing down ever so slightly. Once they were walking side by side, Shay’s crimson pupils would observe her once more. They almost looked like twins. ”Yatsufusa is a blade of pestilence. It wears away the body of its enemies.” Shay would draw the second sword from her sayas, showing it’s very similar look to Yatsufusa except no hazy mist. The blade was clean and exceptionally polished to the point that looking at it might cause a cut across your vision. “It is the sister sword to the Murasame. This blade begets death, swift and sudden; judge, jury and executioner.” She would point Murasame’s blade at Oats when they were outside of the safe zone. “Cut me.” She’ll say simply, her imposing figure instilling confidence in her posture. She would teach this student in her own way.
Oats 0 Posted October 23 Author #9 Share Posted October 23 (edited) As Oats looked at... the mentor? Shes actually has a mentor now! Geez. Anyway, she digresses. She notices many similarities between them. Dark black which could swallow stars. Bright crimson eyes. Black clothes. Out of thousands of players, what a chance?? She cocked her head at that thought. The wind picks up as they both were walking down a street in the town and gently blows their hair outward past shoulders. She listened closely when the girl was explaining about her swords. "As in decay? Very useful in combat I'd say. Effectively erode their chance of winning." She brought up her fingers to her chin, thinking, "Is it a mod or an effect which was embedded to the Yatsufusa?" They walked some more before reaching the border of the safe zone. "Your swords are impressive. I pity those who receive the end of your blades." Once the girl stopped walking, she turned to point the blade at Oats. "Whaa? I gotta pity myself now huh?" Joking aside, she grimaced and spread her legs a bit with the left foot took a step backward to take a stance with the katana pointing down and away from her left. Will she be able to land a hit? As far as she knows, she doesn't have any sword art just yet. Alas, to learn, one gotta try. She gave out a short exhale to gain more composure before launched herself toward the girl. Not yet. Not yet. NOW!! She yells as she bringing the katana around in a horizonal swipe. Edited October 23 by Oats
Shay 0 Posted October 27 #10 Share Posted October 27 The assassin could already see flaws in her stance. Feet to wide, stance completely off and her an attack that befitted one wielding an axe more than a katana. Before the attack even made it to her, she stepped into girls attack and smacked her hilt against Oat's head before following up with a strong kick that would launch the girl to her back if she didn't catch herself. "Slow and wide." Shay would say, taking a step back before the other's katana nicked her. "A katana in not a brute's weapon. You should focus on studying your opponent to learn their style, adapt to it and find a weakness before launching a precise and skillful swing into the crack." Shay's posture got low, her katana out-stretched from her body to her side. "Even those stronger than you have weaknesses to exploit. Find it and cut me." Murasame's bloodlust radiated a soft red, wishing so to drink of its enemy. But to do so in this case would lead to death. She would have to be sure not to actually use a sword art out of instinct. Oats 0 Posted October 27 Author #11 Share Posted October 27 (edited) "Ow!" Oats staggered backward from the blow to her head, but quickly regained her balance. "Even those stronger than you have weaknesses to exploit. Find it and cut me." the mentor instructed as she positioned her sword to her side. Oats rubbed the top of her head, puzzled. "How can I do that? I can't see any weakness. If the opponent moves, then yes, I get a chance to observe. I've been in a military operation and have seen how enemies move. But you... you were just standing there. How can I spot a weakness in someone who doesn't even lean to one side?" Oats pondered the mentor's advice. A weakness? Could it be the way she was holding her sword? Her posture? Her favorite food? Oats chuckled inwardly. She gave a subtle shake of her head to clear her thoughts and focus on the task at hand. "Could you show me?" she asked humbly. She could feel the girl's bloodlust emanating outward. She swallowed hard, but if she learns the katana skill from her, she'd stands her ground and have the mentor aware of her resolve in this. Edited October 27 by Oats
Shay 0 Posted October 28 #12 Share Posted October 28 A lull hung over the 'fight' as she may have realized just how bad a teacher she actually was. She sighed. "I'm not a great person with words." Her catch phrase at this point in her life. She had hoped that this person was a much more somatic learner. "Observation of your target. You saw me move just now? I'm fast but I made a horribly reckless mistake: I just jumped towards your attack to catch you off guard. If I had missed or timed it badly, I would be bleeding right now. That probably comes down more to your reaction speed, I guess..." She contemplated. After a moment, the girl would sheathe her blade and grip the empty saya of Yatsufusa and use it as if it was a sword. "If I were to cut you, the sword would likely instantly kill you. I held back as to not... well do that. Like this, I will come at you for real. Observe my footwork, which angle I throw my blade from, where my eyes look and what my hands are doing. If you have military background then studying body language and absorbing information quickly is something within your capabilities." Shay would then take up her offensive posture again after making some distance and rush in on the attack this time. Her swing was high and extremely wide purposely. She wanted to gauge if Oats could spot a blatant feint.
Oats 0 Posted October 29 Author #13 Share Posted October 29 (edited) Oats rubbed the side of her chin with her black sleeve and chuckled. "Your reaction is definitely quicker! I noticed your move, but I wasn't prepared. A couple of years out of combat can make one rusty," she sighed and shrugged. "I need to work on my battle sense. I'm glad to have you as an opponent; who could ask for a better practice partner?" She smirked at the girl standing at the opposite end of the area, facing each other as the wind blew westward, fluttering their hair in that direction simultaneously. "You're right, I can retrain my information absorption skills. Let's go at it again." Oats readied herself when she saw the mentor assume her posture. It looked like she was going on the offensive this time. There it was! The girl made her first move. Her eyes glinted bright red, as though she saw blood, but Oats knew she was in control because her attack was deliberately wide and arcing. Oats quickly assessed her options: 1.) She could avoid defense or offense by dodging the girl's swing; 2.) She could opt for a full defensive stance with a block, as there is ample time to prepare. However, there's a risk that the mentor might switch strategies at the last moment The mentor likely anticipated these two options from her, but there is a third one. 3.) She could target the mentor's potential weakness. The girl was fast, but rushing would mean running, and her energy was focused on the swing, indicating her attention was elsewhere. Oats dashed forward as quickly as she could while the mentor was in wide mid-swing, slid as low as possible, and swung at the mentor's legs. Hoping to force her to rethink her attack. Shay 0 Posted November 6 #14 Share Posted November 6 At the very least, Oats was resolved. If she could handle her brutish treatment then they could handle pretty much any monster within their level. Shay understood how terrible she could be with words so it was nice not to have to do so much explaining. Shay would deliberately swing with full force from a bad angle, expecting her pupil to sidestep or back away. The strategy lured people in to false security as they try to follow up. Nevertheless, the student had learned. She pushed the attack, much to Shay’s anticipation. She would redirect her saya to block the incoming Yatsufusa, purple mist exploding against the wood of the elegant sword-sheath. “Good call, but it won’t be that easy.” She would say, throwing her weight into the clashed metal and wood to stumble her opponent. The assassin would quickly side step to their off hand side and horizontally swing from that angle to make it difficult to block her attack. How would the student react now?
