Baldur 0 Posted November 25 #41 Share Posted November 25 (edited) Several things suddenly happened a once. Callisto seemed to almost implode in upon herself, decaying as if it were a speed run competition. Then vines suddenly erupted from the ground attacking the raid and seeming to draw energy from the members and back into the boss. At the same time, she picked up Freyd and other tanks, seeming to draw him into her. Kuso! "Freyd!" Baldur rushed forward as the tank was engulfed. Baldur tried dodging the lash of the vines, but he needed to do something about their tank before who knows what would happen to him. He put his hand on the sheathed handle of <<Muramasa>> and felt the greedy, hungry fury trapped within the blade. He took his stance to add the surge of <<charge>> into his attack and didn't wait for the right moment. He just exploded forward with energy, flying through the vines as if they weren't there and the eruption of corrupt fire exploded forth from the saya, slashing into the large bear where it had subsumed their tank. The fallen damage exploded with force, throwing Baldur back from the bear as well, but no tank issued forth from the wound. What should we do? And then he heard a familiar voice behind him. Freyd was no somehow behind them, calling for the team to press forward. What on earth? Macradon 0 Posted November 25 #42 Share Posted November 25 (edited) Nearly down to the 3rd health bar, they were doing strides against the monstrosity, its health dwindling with every rotation, their tank stalwart against any opposition. No matter what, their tank would endure every hit the ursine threat posed towards them … well until that thing began to engulf their tank in such a … special way “What the fuck is that!” he murmured under his breath, trying not to break his own tempo of movement. With their tank suddenly swallowed in a sudden breath, Macradon tried to comprehend the situation, but was dumbfounded, they needed someone to take over, and it was his job to take. He would steel his mind and get ready for any onslaught the bear would throw at them. Just as fast as Freyd was engulfed, he reappeared out of nothing, out of the blue. “Fuck yeah!” Macradon exclaimed and went into battle stance again “Now we’re talking!” With a few steps, Macradon got into his stride and up to speed, his sword held firmly in his hands, his eyes locked onto the bear. An icy mist followed his presence, with each step he froze the ground, like a cold flare beaming direction towards their target. A quick jump would throw Macradon into full automation, his mind was locked, his body moved by instincts, and like a lightning strike from Zeus, Macradon crashed down into Callisto with a bellowing landing. With might from his strength and the bright light from his sword, Macradon cleaved into the beast like a hot knife through butter. He landed with grace and ferocity, the ground beneath him shaking, caving in, from the abundance of energy his attack would deliver. A big slice of the pie would be carved into the health bar of the bear, dealing a great blow to its health. Despite the natural growth around the bear, Macradon kept his mind locked in on damage over all. It wasn’t in his nature to switch out unless spoken to. Might and brawn over all. *** Pre-Action: Recover 4+2 Energy ID: 237940 | CD: 12 -> Recovery Proc! Crozeph 0 Posted November 26 #43 Share Posted November 26 (edited) Just like that the tide of battle tilted He knew there would be hidden mechanics to this fight, Fromsoftware must've collaborated with Kayaba during development. The bear already was unsightly but nature had to make it worse. He didn't like how it just released something deadly on them and even ensnared Freyd but the player will never be held back, he knew that ever since he saw Freyd take on Skalaugh. At Zandra's signal, Crozeph fixed his eyes on the next target, bear liver. If it had any "brain, heart, liver. Matthew Mcconoughey said if you take down one of these you bring down the beast" he said as he continued dashing forward, he mustn't stop moving to keep the momentum of his swings. In one downward swing he delivered a cut, hoping it would be deep is too ambitious, he just needs to make it feel pain. if the game adheres to at least real life anatomy, this would make the bear flinch "that's for releasing violet cocaine." Plot Master 0 Posted November 26 Author #44 Share Posted November 26 (edited) The beast’s growl rolled like thunder, its thick fur bristled beneath the swirling tendrils of mist. Gore, and something altogether unworldly oozed from cuts in the bear’s hide. If the wounds caused any pain, or if the creature noticed them at all, it gave no indication. Instead, it continued to grapple with the captured Players, its yellowed teeth glinting in the faint light. Paws the size of dinner plates swatted at the ensnared humans, razor-sharp nails skipping along veins that could be easily cut and drained. As the dark-haired swordsman slipped out of its grasp, Callisto loosed a defiant scream of its own. Shifting its bulk so that the other victims remained pinned, the massive bear freed up its front claws to swipe angrily at the escaping Player. Much like a child grabbing desperately at a balloon as it drifts out of reach, the Floor Boss refused to lose its hard-won prize. Its entire body hummed with new-found rage as Freyd moved just out of its reach. Plot Master 0 Posted November 26 Author #45 Share Posted November 26 The vines that attempted to bind the players retracted back into the ground, like wounded snakes slithering back into the deepest parts of their den. However, they would not depart that simply, not without claiming a prize. Gripping tightly at the scattered remains of whatever long gone adventurer it could find. Corpses still adorned in their battered armor dragged through the dirt haphazardly, without care for the delicate nature of death or the legacy this warrior may have had. If they could not feed on the players, then these fallen heroes should suffice. The remains were pulled into the jagged tooth-like maw that was the splintered earth, which, in return, belched out a cloud of putrid spores. They hovered in the air like swarming gnats before descending upon Callisto. Where the fungus seemed to land on the bear's dark and matted fur, wounds inflicted by the players seemed to close ever so slightly. Round 7 has begun. Players will have until 12/2/2024 | 11:59:59 PM (EST) to complete their post [Countdown Timer] Lair action Descriptions: Blooming Decay | LD 1-5 | Callisto will regenerate 1% of his maximum hitpoints at the start of his next turn, when this occurs this effect ends. This buff can be removed before Callisto's turn if Burn is applied/refreshed by your party. Nature's Fury | LD 6-10 | At the start of Callisto's next turn, all players are inflicted with bleed 2. If this would refresh an existing bleed, the entire damage is dealt before refreshing. This effect is removed when your party uses their post actions to make a culminative LD (Nimble + Evasion Modifier) roll of 30 to free themselves from their binds and assist their team. Stride the Spirit Realm | LD 11-15 | While Callisto has this buff, his evasion is set to 10 and the first successful attack does not deal damage. After the first successful attack, this buff is removed (i.e., successive attacks will deal damage and his evasion is reset to its normal amount). In addition, while under the effects of Stride the Spirit Realm, all activated Accuracy bonuses (Rally, Concentration, etc.) provide double the normal accuracy modifier during player's attacks. Addled Memory | LD 16-20 | Harrowing sounds of old drown out deeper thoughts, your party can no longer use items until the start of Callisto's next turn. This effect is removed when your party uses their post action to make a culminative LD (Searching + Detect + Trinket + Food) roll of 30 to shake themselves out of this stupor. Wulfrin 0 Posted November 30 #46 Share Posted November 30 (edited) The growl shook Wulfrin to his core, but Wulfrin held fast. His gaze fixated on Callisto. As Freyd narrowly escaped the bear's grasp, Wulfrin watched as some of Callisto's wounds began to seal. It was never a good thing to see a boss regain health. Wulfrin's mind began to mull over the evidence before them in the background, as the group had to find a way to prevent future activations. It's feeding on the decay, Wulfrin guessed as he watched the bear began to feast on the corpses that littered the ground. Fire might be our best bet, but that isn't exactly in my wheelhouse. Wulfrin decided the best course of action was to continue negating the activation of the AoE. Wulfrin leapt towards his foe's mangled face, looking Callisto right in its good eye as his blade raked across the furry flesh. His blade was wrapped in the crimson light of his Phoenix Wing Sword Art. As it collided, the shadows of the arena seemed attracted to the crystal Wulfrin had been keeping tucked in the pockets of his Fallen Angel Garb. The shadows lingered briefly in the wounds as he heard the sinister laugh of a familiar icy devil echo in the back of his mind. * * * Recovery?: ID 238346 | CD 12 | +8 EN Wulfrin regains 4+2+8 = 14 EN Cooldowns: Post Action: [x17] Tech-A vs Callisto, The Tainted (16 EN) -2 stamina = 14 EN Free Action: Crystal of Divine Light | +8 Fallen Damage | Wulfrin will take double damage ID 238338 | BD 6+9+1 = 16 hit | CD 3 | 28+4+8 = 40 * 17 = 680 - 45 = 635 + 80 = 715 DMG to Callisto. Freyd 0 Posted November 30 #47 Share Posted November 30 (edited) "Fire wish granted!" Stepping into closer quarters, Freyd flared the anima of his sword art into a deep azure blaze to match the colour of his eyes. Then all grace left his artful pose as he tripped on a writhing bit of vine detritus and spilled the flame upon himself rather than their foe. Like napalm loosed in the wrong direction, the fire slid along the slick surface of his armor and turned the Whisper into a silent burning torch and effigy, yet it somehow failed to consume him. "What the... oh, who cares why." Dashing forward with a leap, Freyd barreled into Callisto's dissolving form. Blade plunged into its back, he clung in full fiery glory with arms wrapped tightly around the thing's boney neck, taking a chance that his own clumsiness could still be salvaged. "When in doubt, bear hug the goddamn bear! Right, Mac?" Macradon 0 Posted December 1 #48 Share Posted December 1 (edited) Whatever these thorny brambles were, they seemed to … heal the bear. “Hey, that’s not fair! Only players should be able to heal mid battle!” he called out in a sarcastic but still shocked tone towards the ursine threat. He slung his sword over his shoulder and got into a lower stance, trying to see a line he could dart through and engage in combat again after the bear’s antics were set in motion. After Freyd’s pyrotechnics, Macradon would snicker at the doom and gloom that befell the grove of thorny protection for the bear. As Freyd would angle the bear with his grappling, Macradon took the opportunity and lunged into its ribs from the side, piercing it with an outstretched arm as he finished his sword art with his extended arm behind him and his offhand covering his face with his antecubital fossa, dabbing with his delaying effect. He would snap his head up towards Freyd after his delayed dab and smile “Oh hell yeah!” he exclaimed. *** Spoiler Recover 4+2[HORN] EN ID: 238415 | CD: 10 -> Recovery Proc! Baldur 0 Posted December 2 #49 Share Posted December 2 (edited) Fire erupted from Freyd and seemed to burn away the fines that were trying to drain life from anything it could. The gaijin samurai looked towards Freyd and gave him a quick nod as a salute for his quick thinking and action taking care of the strange new lair action that they had seen. Turning quickly back to the bear, the health bars nearly depleted, Baldur charged once again. The bear was occupied with the tanks and the myriad of abilities being used against it, but Baldur took a measured breath, his energy ticking up for a moment as he waited for the moment to strike. As Callisto turned and showed her flank, Baldur simply slashed at her back with his sword, adding damage where he could while he waited for his big guns to come off of cooldown. "The health regen is hurting us. I think the whole raid needs to focus on making sure we kill it whenever it tries. Another big push like we've done before and this boss could be down soon, but it seems to have suddenly checked us." They hit it with everything they had last round, but it's health didn't seem to reflect it. It went down, but like it should have been. They needed to make sure the raid regrouped of they could continue to lose momentum. "Our margins look good, we need to really press this thing." His eyes flickered over the health bars of the entire raid and he was surprised to see how relatively unscathed they were. The first round had been a bit hairy as they figured things out, but the raid had course corrected with zero deaths. It was a good sign this late in the fight to be on such solid footing. The other shoe had dropped, and they had simply handled it. Was there a second shoe though? They would just have to see. Zandra 0 Posted December 2 #50 Share Posted December 2 (edited) Zandra, the berserk healer, had motivated her party member to kick even more of the teddy bears a**. She saw the buff disapear as she approached Crozeph. The whole party was plenty safe when it came to their health, noone was even close to beeing in danger. Thou when it came to energy, Crozeph have continued dropping. That was actually one of the things she was there to prevent. As long as she had energy left, noone of her party members would become tired. “Not time to slack of yet.” she said as she putted her hands on Crozeph and as he shone in a green eerie light, some of Zandras energy flowed to his stats, refilling the stamina a little bit. “There, keep kicking the teddy bears butt. We have almost taken him down now.” She knew she was having the support role, but she was a little jealous of Freyd, she wanted to put him ablaze and burn in a big fireball. Plot Master 0 Posted December 3 Author #51 Share Posted December 3 The husks of impossibly tall trees, enshrouded in rot and decay, seemed to curl inwards, as if peering down to spectate the climax of this epic battle. The sickening sounds of creaking, splitting wood accompanied the cacophony of blades crashing and the thrumming of heavy footfalls from the massive beast they sought to fell. It was not Callisto that was the first to fall, as the entity had sworn to itself. Many more would follow in the player’s footsteps, the crushing wight of Callisto atop of them being the last they would feel as the last breath of desperate air left their lungs. Pushing itself onto its hind legs, the massive embodiment of the corruption of the wood would let out a piercing wail, unlike any a typical bear would make. While no discernable words left its toothy maw, there was malice behind its roar. It mocked their comrade as the player’s body faded into nothing but shattered data before their very eyes. More will follow. More will fall. Their health hit 0, and by the rules established and understood by our community for years, that would typically be the end of a character’s life. However, a request was brought up by another member of the party if we would allow them to take the full brunt of the boss’ attack, sparing the player originally meant to die, and sacrificing themselves instead. Their arguments proved that it would make sense narratively, both within the raid thread and their own story. So after a couple of days of discussion with the players in question and the rest of staff, we have decided to approve their request. Freyd will be allowed to sacrifice himself for Wulfrin. There will be a formal update that makes this mechanic available to all players in future raid parties soon. Plot Master 0 Posted December 3 Author #52 Share Posted December 3 Though the danger of the dragging vines may have ceased, the horrors certainly persisted. As if the decaying woods around Callisto's den itself were unleashing all of its power upon the players to stop them from vanquishing their tether to this realm. Once the last of the green appendages escaped their sight, blue, ethereal smoke quickly rose from the breaks in the ground. Souls of the damned cursed to come to the aid of the very creature that ended its life. The balls of ethereal fog swirled like a vortex around them in patterns that were undiscernible. Twisted images of elongated faces, contorting with whatever pains they were subject to in the afterlife. As Callisto steps into this ring of tortured spirits, he begins to move in a similar fashion. Freyd 0 Posted December 5 #53 Share Posted December 5 ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ A blinding miasmic darkness melded around Callisto’s misanthropic roar as it sundered reality’s grip on their senses. Figures blurred and twisted while vile corruption wracking the bear’s very spirit, erupting in their direction to unhinge their souls and sanity alike. Freyd watched as his metal clad fingers stretched and distorted to spindle points, leaving contrails of time in their wake, memories of arms and legs alike in several places all at once. And then pain, as the abhorrent source sought to unmake each of them from within, erasing them from creation’s intricate tapestry. “Get behind me!” Screaming into the maelstrom, bracing his blade like he was steering a ship’s keel into a monstrous rogue wave, Freyd kept the worst torrents of torment at bay by placing himself in the vanguard to shield the others. Cries of surprise and anguish rang out on all sides as the others felt the boss’ full fury wash over them and fell back. All save one. And so many ridiculous nicknames. The peace of fishing to connect with lost treasures, including those buried within his past. Friends fired from cannons. Others set ablaze by purest foul chance. Terror in a perfect night, huddled beneath a humble tattered cape, serving as unintended bait for swirling sharks in human form. A gentle, tender love borne and nurtured in the blossoming of a green rose’s heart. That lone, lingering and selfish regret drowned out by the splendor of their shared tale and the indelible mark it had left upon him… the very granting of a soul. If he did any less than breach the utmost limits of effort, he would not be the man she believed him to be. “I’m sorry, Elora. And thank you….” Spider-like fingers reaching through distance and eternity, Freyd grasped onto Wulfrin’s hand, still clutching the very instrument of impending demise. A spectral memento wrapped itself tenderly around the pair - the very spirit and essence of a bride he’d only just bound to Wulfrin in matrimony. Calling through the void that connected tutor and protege, Freyd latched onto desperate need to conjure one last manifestation of that Thing Behind All Lies. Both men’s forms flickered for a split second’s confusion - all he needed was to keep Callisto from telling them apart at the crux of fate. Ever wonder what a gemini looks like in its true form? A question he’d posed to more than he could count, even as their identities blurred to be indistinguishable. Admission or belief in the guise of a query? Freyd no longer knew the difference and had come to accept that its implied doubts carried no significance. He finally knew who he was. More importantly, he knew who he wanted to be, especially for her. And that person would choose to save a friend at any cost, and would keep his vows. Give them hope. A promise made ages ago, over a scrap of red cloth soaked in the blood of unwavering sacrifice. He’d always expected it would mean a price paid in the currency of others. After everything he had learned, it was one he’d finally succumbed to gladly pay himself, especially if it meant sparing another. In his final seconds, the slowly swirling mark over Freyd’s head disappeared, leaving only serenity and the faintest hint of a smile for a life actually lived and the silent admission his very nature prevented from being spoken aloud. An added touch of ambiguity; his own personal parting play to layer on one last instance of errant mystery. An instant later, time resumed and the scouring winds unleashed by Callisto’s fury washed away every mote accumulated to make a person from what began as nothing more than a quiet, terrified whisper in the shadows. ♪ [Why]

Then she checked the bear’s bars, there was only two left. It was not long left util it would shatter in a ton of crystals. And how much have she helped? No healing have been needed during the whole fight. She have even used one of her healing crystals just to use it, thou it had barely healed anything at all. But suddenly, the big bear decided to do a different attack. An attack that was effecting the whole party. She looked at the parties healthbars, they was all dropping quick, but not as quick as Wulfrins bar. In just a few short moments her brain had calculated how this would turn out. Not good for him. Her heart started beat faster. She had started to relax to much, “Va fan, sover du eller vad din jävla idiot.” She whispered angry ro herself. Then, faster then she had ever done her hand opened her battle ready inventory, grabbed a mass heal crystal and crushed it in less then a second. In the same momevent, she darted towards Wulfrin. Freyd, Mac, Baldur and Crozeph would be low but would survive the hit. Wulfrins bar was dropping to fast thou. She had backed away a bit from the boss to give the warriors more space to bring the beast down. This may have been one of the biggest mistake in this death game. She maybe wont get in time. “ZITA!! NOW!!” She screamed with a loud and panicked voice. A moment later, Zita, her kingseagle familiar, dived down. But not even her speed was fast enough to get in time. But someone else was. Freyd had gotten to Wulfrin. Something followed it that she had never seen before. Instead of Wulfrin reaching zero, Freyd would do it. Which would make him instead die. Zandra stopped on the spot and just stared as the crystals of the tank slowly shattered. What was happening? She couldnt even support the tank to survive? Zita with her built up speed swished past the scene beeing just a bit more then a shadow, barely beeing able to be spotted while passing them in speed not often beeing seen in the game. Zandra had seen players die before, thou it would never bee a feeling she would easily wake up from. Thou luckily someone that have waked her up from similar situation before was present. Even in same team. As Macradon speech up Zandra got herself together. As he was taking command he gave Zandra an command. She herd words that she hadnt herd in so long, even a slight shadow of a smile grew on her lips. “Absolut! Kommer inte tillåta några missar!” she replied to him in her own language. “Mac is right! We all need to focus. Do not let this effect you. For the moment dont let this get to your minds. The bear is almost down, calm your mind and make sure your strikes hit their target.” it may be a disgusting thing to say to tell them to ignore the loss of a hero. But at the moment, they had something else that was way more important to focus on, or Freyd maybe wont be the only one to leave them. She just hoped that Macradon’s speech and her rallying would be enough to keep team 2’s warriors from going into madness. ♪ ----------------------------------- Post action: Rally, -6+4(regen)+2(Horn)=+-0 Energy, +2 ACC to party Free action: Mass heal crystal, +10%+2%(MEND)=+12% HP to party: Macradon: +133HP Wulfrin: +99-99(full)=0HP Freyd: +0HP Zandra: +135HP, +4 Hate(Totem of the bear) Baldur: +126HP Crozeph: +100=0HP Players: [15] Macradon | HP: 1038/1115 | EN: 70/130 | DMG: 25 | MIT:179 | ACC:7(+2) | PHASE | RHINO 2.6 (40%) [1/1] | F-SPIRIT | FR.AURA: 8 | FR.THORNS: 8/16 | BH:61 | VAMP-O: 123 | REC: 4 | HLY: 16 | LD:5 | PROB:36 | HORN [8] Wulfrin | HP: 829/829 | EN: 82/108 | DMG: 28 | MIT:92 | ACC:9(+2) | AA | EVA:1[+1, -1 (RH)] | BLD-IM (N) | BH:27 | REC: 8 | FRB: 40 | TXC-V: 32 | FRZ: 64 | LD:3 | BIZ-DOTE: 1/3 | HELLSTORM: 80 | STNG [x1] | PROB:36 | SAND-A | JEWEL | HORN | Clean | CRYSTAL 8 [39] Freyd | HP: 0/1512 | EN: 169/178 | DMG: 8| MIT: 315 | ACC:7(+2) | AA | TAUNT 3 | F-SPIRIT | EVA:4 | THORNS: 40 | BH: 83 | VAMP-D: 83 | VAMP-O: 166 | BLD: 96 | ENV-O: 32 | FRB: 40 | FRZ: 64 | PARA-V | LD:8 | PROB:48 | CAIN: 50 | HORN | Clean [6] Zandra | HP: 857/1127 | EN: 95/130 | DMG: 18 | MIT:195 | ACC:3(+2) | FRZ-IM | PARA-IM | FL.AURA: 16 | MENDING: 2 | FLN: 16 | BRN: 56 | DOTE: 1/3 | PROB:48 | HORN | Clean [7] Baldur | HP: 587/1053 | EN: 96/128 | DMG: 28 | MIT:8 | ACC:8+1[+1](+2) | AA | KEEN: 1 | EVA:4 | THORNS:40 | BH:58 | REC: 8 | FLN: 8 | BRN: 56 | BLT 32 | LD:3 | HELLSTORM: 80 | DOTE: 1/3 | STNG [x1] | HORN [6] Crozeph | HP: 444/840 | EN: 57/102 | DMG: 22 | MIT:104 | ACC: [3] 7(+2) | AA | PHASE | EVA: [-2] 2 | PARA-IM | BH:46 | REC: 4 | RISK: 8 | FLN: 16 | LD: [-3] 1 | HORN | [Blind 2] | [Madness I 12/4] Edited December 8 by Zandra
Baldur 0 Posted December 6 #55 Share Posted December 6 (edited) ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ The boss roared a mighty roar, so powerful that it seemed to be searing the very pixels of the game, breaking away the ground to view the mesh lines beneath them as Freyd called for them all to take cover. They moved quickly, sheltering behind the tank. Everyone except for Wulfrin. They all seemed to realize it at the same moment. Everyone looking at the man Freyd had helped train to be here, left out in the full brunt of the oncoming attack. Kuso he swore. Each of them twitched as if to move and help the man who was stuck in the post sword art freeze, though it was longer than it should have been. Did he use some cursed item? But one of them was faster than the rest of them. In the time they twitched, hesitated only a moment, Freyd had moved. It had been a long time since he had really interacted with Freyd, and his opinion on the man wasn't quite settled. He liked him, and he was good in a fight, but the man had originally seemed very... mercenary. He had told Baldur that he was an ends justify the means type of person. A darkness had laid over him that Baldur realized wasn't there anymore. As the rest of them huddled together, bracing as one against the storm, Freyd through caution to the wind for his kohai. He would never get to know the man better. He would never get another quest in the snow, joking about age. Or a conversation around the firelight discussing what brought them here. He was a man who would do whatever it would take. "You're not a fraud, Freyd." He whispered in a way that only he could hear, "You deserve to stand shoulder to shoulder with the best of us." Freyd had claimed there was no nobility behind his motivation, but what the gaijin samurai saw was the most noble expression of love that anyone could make. Freyd gave up his safety to save the life of another. Of his friend. And then the man who had become the rock parting the ocean to protect Wulfrin faded, the pixels of his existence washing away with the last of Callisto's attack. All Baldur could see was the Monument of Life, flowers, and the flow of sake over the stone. A somber ritual. Then it was Mac's voice who jolted him back to the moment. Quote “Alright fuck it!” Macradon roars and plants his sword into the ground. Baldur could only ever hope to have that impact. Callisto came for them again, her movements incredible. She was moving like a continuous activation of a sword art, far beyond what humans were capable of. But it didn't matter. Baldur drew the sword around him in a circle, establishing his space. His Absolute Territory. "Zettai Ryoiki." He said as a form of meditation, and suddenly the world slowed. Everything moved as if in water, and even in this state Callisto moved at a normal speed. But Baldur didn't need speed. In a swordfight, control of distance was everything. He sheathed his sword, waiting for the right moment. He sought the flame and the void. He took his feelings, his pain, his anxiety, his rage and he fed it to the flame. He built the fire up inside of him, like the flame of Freyd had burned. He had cast light to so many, and now that fire was added to Baldur's own. He fed everything to the flame, and the void enveloped him. He was at one with the world around him. She came, charging in erratic directions trying to get them to waste their attacks. You picked the wrong fucking group to mess with. She might be impossible to hit, but there was one thing this boss designer didn't count on. The gaijin samurai doesn't fucking miss. Callisto crossed into Baldur's territory and he released the sword art he held. An old practice, standing there in the activation stance but resisting the system. Holding it back. Macradon 0 Posted December 6 #56 Share Posted December 6 (edited) ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ Giving that wretched thing a huge bear hug didn’t seem like it was actually what they needed to do to succeed. The bear merely stood up on its hind legs and emitted what seemed like a wail that would encompass the entire arena, screeching as if it tried to madden the entire frontlines with its bickering. Macradon would brace himself to accept the sonic barrage heading his way, everyone else seemed to brace as well as it charged up its wail, but just before it let out the sound of madness, Macradon thought “That won’t do, I can’t just … parry air .. He would pierce the rotten forest floor with his sword and slap both of his hands to his ears, holding back as much sound as he could as the wail began to emit. The booming wretched sound felt like a brain melting microwave pointed directly towards you, it was strange, but it felt … oddly soothing. Macradon’s tenacity showed itself useful as his health bar didn’t tick that low compared to everyone else’s, especially not as low as Freyd’s! “Wait … what the fuck.” he muttered as he glanced up at his HUD, the health kept lowering, it just continued, it didn’t stop “WHAT THE FUCK!” he yelled out and looked towards Freyd who had just taken the brunt of the attack in front of Wulfrin “NO WHAT THE FUCK!” he roared out and ran towards his tank, now just disappearing into nothing from the attack. This wasn’t the first time he had experienced a death at a boss raid, his mentor was assassinated at one, but a boss actually killing someone, that was … not common anymore. The second phase of Aincrad truly was different, the lethal shift that came with the 25th floor’s clearance made its mark, the frontlines were not safe from anyone any longer. Macradon’s breath became more exasperated as the time ticked by and he tried to remain calm. His mind began to analyse, think, tinker, explore his team’s needs and wants after this, but he couldn’t keep up, he wasn’t warmed up to this responsibility, he wasn’t ready. He realised that he actually hadn’t actually picked up his sword again, it distracted him, make him lose track of everything, making him fumble his sword and drop it. Wulfrin 0 Posted December 6 #57 Share Posted December 6 (edited) Callisto’s hide shuddered with each impact of Wulfrin’s blade and the sequential follow up from his teammates. Freyd the ever stalwart defender rushed in, wreathed with the flames of a three headed gate guardian. A delayed dab from the Whisper reciprocated from their off tank Mac as their disgust at the boss regenerating hung in the air. Mac’s strike was well timed and placed in such a way that it sent Callisto into the same disoriented state Wulfrin had been keeping him in for the extent of the raid up to this point. Baldur was the next to follow up, their katana a light with a sword art used countless times before. Precision accuracy and the torrent of hellfire bestowed unto the blade by the Phoenix of floor 9. It was a gift from Wulfrin along with the potent Matriarch Stinger. Callisto’s HP dropped with ever strike the group made. Cro however, took the round to recover. Not that Wulfrin could blame him. As far as he could tell, Cro didn’t have much energy regen for himself. To Wulfrin, Cro seemed the least prepared for the raid having only a few consumables, but not near as many as the rest of the party. CEO’s energy was dangerously low, luckily Zandra seemed to notice it just before Wulfrin could call it out. Then came the wails. Echoes of the fallen soldiers began to ring in Wulfrin’s ears. A thousand or more souls screaming in pain and torment. Icingdeath, a blade forged for and used by a devil of the hells resonated with the cries of the damned souls. Wulfrin was left reeling screaming in agony as the echoes bombarded his senses like an impossible storm. When Wulfrin did regain his composure enough to focus, calling on every ounce of his once coveted Concentration skill, a skill he no longer possessed since coming under Freyd’s wing. His mind was too clouded for Meditation to kick in. Wulfrin forced every ounce of his willpower into regaining his senses. With a roar of determination, his vision cleared. Callisto The Tainted was nowhere to be seen in the arena. In its place, five corpses stammered around ready to pounce. Wulfrin readied his strike. He was winded and still fuzzy, but he had a job to do. Clearly this raid was not over. Wulfrin charged. Each shambling corpse received a single strike before Wulfrin’s blade was stopped dead in its tracks. Regret. Sorrow. Pain. <<You are dead>> The withered forest faded to nothingness. The last aspect to fade was the face of his mentor as life gave way to an endless void. Silence was all that impacted his senses now. There was no pain. No feedback. Just emptiness. “Was it worth it?” A voice echoed in his mind. The voice was disembodied but as Wulfrin turned to seek out the source, his gaze met his own. A shadow of himself stared back, battle hardened and wounded from countless battles. The wound at the center of the shade’s chest was a reminder of who Wulfrin was speaking with. “I take it the fight is over,” Wulfrin sighed. He pulled the Crystal of Divine Light from within the confines of his Fallen Angel Garb. His eyes glanced to where he expected a full HP bar to reside. Instead of being filled with green, it was devoid of color, an empty bar that dissolved before his very eyes. Wulfrin’s gemini reached out and grabbed Wulfrin’s arm, blackened and tattered by the sanctified light of the Crystal he had greedily activated. “Wulfrin!” Another voice echoed. This one was frantic and rushed but also familiar. The roar was Freyd’s. The gemini before him gave way to the armored form of his mentor, ribbons of black shadows drifted between them. Wulfrin’s eyes met Freyd’s for one final time as The Whisper simply closed his eyes as his form scattered into the shadows. In that moment Wulfrin’s heart shattered into a thousand pieces. To the rest of the raid, it appeared as Wulfrin simply fell to his knees, a few remaining streams of shadow fluttering away into the wind. His eyes were glazed and tears were streaming down his face. His left arm, still clutching the Crystal of Divine Light, was charred, yet his HP remained unchanged. He stood in the shower of data that danced around him as his mentor finally found his peace. He was stricken with grief, guilt, sorrow, pain, and every other emotion all at once like a torrential wave. The crystal in his hand felt like a thousand pound weight as he roared with an unbroken resolve and the fury of one thousand suns. To him there was only one goal now, Callisto had to die. Quote “Alright fuck it!” Macradon roars and plants his sword into the ground. He stretches his body in response to the bear going into what seems like a Speedy Gonzales move, and being to take command from his fallen tank “Let’s get this fucking bear down! Zandra, Rally os, så vi kan få ramt på den bjørn! Wulfrin, Baldur, strike it down, you can sense its movements better than any of us! Crozeph, do your thing, eat it up!” he called out to his party with a bellowing roar before picking up his sword once again and got into stance “We will not let Freyd’s sacrifice be in vain, we will let his death be an opportunity for our continuity! His story does not end here, he will be remembered, he will always be with us! Show the Cardinal system what it’s up against, show it that the Frontlines of Aincrad will outpace it! Here we stand resolute, here we stand up against all odds, here we stand together!” ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ Mac’s speech was what snapped him back to reality. At the calling of Wulfrin’s name he simply stared back and acknowledged the order with nothing but a nod. Tears continued to stream as he focused all his attention on the foe that had taken his mentor away. “It should have been you,” A voice echoed, deep and guttural. “I will claim you yet.” As Wulfrin stood, his now tattered red coat's durability fell to zero, revealing beneath it's now vanity status the armor that Wulfrin wore into battle. A weatherproof coat, charcoal in color, over similarly colored plain traveling leathers. Clinging to his neck was the lowered cowl of the strikingly familiar armor to some of the frontline, the Fallen Angel Garb. Wulfrin's left arm was heavy with the weight in his hands. He took one look at the HP bars bellow his, they were all in decent shape save Cro needing a top off, all except one that no longer appeared. Wulfrin had to force himself to look away from the party status. Within the deep pockets of his mentor's armor, he swapped to another crystal, this one less harmful than the other. "One last vow to you my brother," Wulfrin whispered under his breath as he crushed the crystal in his hands. "This Tainted Foe will not go out with a bang, but a Whisper in Shadows." Wulfrin pulled the cowl of his armor over his head, mainly to hide his own sorrow, but also in silent memorium. Mina rushed past him as did many frontliners, each of them coping with the loss of a beloved friend, guildmate, and to some probably a thorn in their side. In this moment it didn't matter how you viewed the fallen, they were a player. Wulfrin joined the rush, a streak of silent rage framed by shadows. Icingdeath's aura of frigid mist clung to Wulfrin more so than it ever had before, its blade craving blood and death. It found purchase in the bear's still open jaw, which Wulfrin used to get a more intimate position. "You shall remain silent," Wulfrin said as he stared into Callisto's good eye. "I will not stop until your head is severed from your cursed body." With a kick, Wulfrin dislodged himself from the bears form and regrouped with his party. He awaited the next order, but said nothing and only stared at Callisto as the entirety of the Frontline unleashed their fury. It should have been me... * * * Recovery? Crozeph 0 Posted December 7 #58 Share Posted December 7 (edited) “Get behind me!” Knowing Freyd, there's a good chance the enemy will unleash something. He trusted him enough to listen, just like how he does with Baldur and Yuki. Even though he had done nothing for a few moments, there's no good reason to risk it just so he can land blow. Crozeph came rushing towards them, it didn't seemed like a bad idea at the time to just sprint and zoom around as if he's some kind of football player supporting their striker. Baldur and Mac had already braced themselves. Wulfrin, the guy did something "damn it, I took a breather and it shows" he thought. No sense to waste anymore seconds of his life thinking about it, he had to make it in time. and then there it was, Freyd stood before them ♫♪ ♫♪ Deep down Crozeph knew Freyd can endure. They were a solid team, he knew what everyone was capable of. They were unscathed for so long and even anything that can stop Freyd from his tracks was useless. Crozeph knew that but somehow there was this sudden sinking feeling. "Wait! Shishou! Freyd is-" a flash of light smeared itself all over the place. Ereshkigal quivered at the sight of it and Crozeph didn't like it. the feeling continues to sink He turned his eyes to where Freyd was and only saw Wulfrin on his knees. His blue eyes dilated, clenched his teeth and felt like he was choking. No one planned on sacrificing themselves. They just had to keep cutting, slicing, and bludgeon the enemy. Things were going smoothly, everyone was on guard, everyone was doing what they were tasked to do, they were so close to finishing the job... "And this abomination had to ruin it!" He dashed forward, synchronized with Baldur. He was angry, Freyd was strong in his eyes, a person he can depend on in battle. He wasn't invincible but if a sacrifice is what it takes to bring him down, for the Crow it doesn't seem fair, the indignation was just too cruel for him. A thrusting attack connected to the side of the bear's neck, sinking and spikes trying to claw its way out and sink deeper at the same time. Gone were Crozeph's smart ass comments, his slight listless behavior. There was no point for those right now, he only felt emotions he once felt when his brother died in front of his eyes, in this same game. IN THIS SAME GAME Eyes fixed on Callisto, he tried to twist his katana deeper. his right hand punching the abomination repeatedly, faint snarl on every hit. The feeling of losing someone again in this game was slowly taking its toll on him. Freyd 0 Posted December 9 #59 Share Posted December 9 (edited) Chaos raged in the wake of the crushing wave that tore apart their companion, each member of the raid tuning to the aftermath in their own way. Despair. Anger. Loss. Frustration. Disbelief. Mild confusion. A tiny figure lost in the melee watched it all occur, her existence bound to the giant lummox she kept around as a convenient litter, in both senses of the word. She dumped on him constantly, and still he bore her around nestled in the warmth under all that heavy armor. So clunky. So clumsy. So bloody loud. Yet… still… he’d actually cared. Even when purporting not to, overly concerned with binding his own spirit in self-wrought chains. Tiny and forgotten, Persistence lived up to her epithet, enduring beyond the possible and watching, a tinge of sadness bleeding into her slotted burning azure eyes, lost in all that surrounding darkness. It began with a single tear, born of star stuff gifted to her in the wake of Tanabata’s reverie. Galaxial water, blessed by the celestial essence of Orihime and Hikoboshi, fed to her by Freyd long so very long ago. Who could have foretold its significance? Persi, whose inky body was the very stuff of voids between those stellar godlings, flared in effigy to their divine binding. She clung to that sensation as constellations filled in ancient connections and spread outward in search of kinship. Like a gloaming wildfire, gossamer wisps of bluish light to match the fire in her eyes spread her essence through all of theirs: one shadow to all the others in the room; the very thing that bound her to her minion and alleged master. She had always been the one in charge, but it was just easier to let him think the opposite was true. And maybe, just this once, she might just take pity on the poor deluded fool. Player after player fell upon their focus, the great misshapen bear barraged by their defiant outrage, its health bars plummeting in the face of righteous Frontline vengeance. Behind them all, a maelstrom formed, guided by Orihime weaving hand. Strands linked motes and shards through the fabric of a digital universe wrought into a dreamcatcher of sorts to snare one familiar pattern before it fell. But even to the gods, acting through her agency, such workings demanded a price. As catlike as the shadow mongoose was, she did not have eight extra lives to spare. Or, if she did, they'd all been long since spent. Pulling taut the weaving with her tiny shining paw, like bathing a newborn kit for the first and last time, Persi called the scintillating sparks together and breathed them forth with an outpouring of her very essence, her tiny body crumbling into sparkles to join the funnel surging forth like a gust to fill the Frontline's sails. Her last act, the only word ever spoken throughout her existence, gave voice in their minds as it infused her working into defiance against insurmountable adversity and carried on a surging breeze. 'No.' ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ From the silent vestiges called forth by a partner's devotion came a building momentum of dancing lights skirting through and around the warring throng. Coalescing first into a blade’s tip, then edge, driving towards their enemy's heart. They raced forward with purpose and certainty. As each star's fragment swirled past, they took on spectral shape in the ghostly echo of a friend suddenly departed, solidifying as the stream converged into the impossible. Freyd’s factured form reforged from its sundering, charging to regain its place upon the vanguard, features changed, his presence unfathomable to the dawning realizing of his teammates. Gasping for absent breath amidst the gathering admixture of dark and light, propelled and given life again by Persi’s dying breath to carry on the fight, Freyd stood blanched from contact with a point from which none were entitled to return. Bleached and weathered by the harrowing, he looked aged, yet as adamantly determined as he’d been moments earlier at Wulfrin’s side. One simply does not touch oblivion’s edge without suffering some toll. A few halting steps as booted feet reformed and recovered their momentum, bearings scrambled and senses struggling to reset. His blade came down with just enough force to summon the bear's ire back unto himself, proving it couldn't be rid of him so easily. What the hell just… Chest heaving, he struggled to process. Wulfrin, alive, the rest of their team rallying to scour victory from pain. Cries of fury and horror above and beyond the norm clashed all around as players fell like meteors upon the boss’ hide. Washing like a flood through their ranks, a dead man resumed his post. Plot Master 0 Posted December 9 Author #60 Share Posted December 9 What? A series of growls and snarls, impossibly violent from a creature that should've long been dead followed the emergence of that figure from beyond Cardinal's grasp. Vengeance followed in its every step, the beast slack-jawed, impetuous, rampaging across the night-clad bowl. Once, then twice, it became obvious a certain sort of impatience, frenzy had enveloped its prerogative. Callisto's swings, however wide and impactful, only grazed air, its form flickering, blades of color dragged off its hide for a second longer than it had existed within the area. Hues shifted in aberration, and the world fixed Callisto in place as though to reconsolidate its errors from the past. None of it worked. Only one fortunate brandish of its claws snapped to its destination sooner than expected had caught on a mark.
