Spoiler

Echo is short, lithe but working as a mechanic has kept them well toned. They have auburn curly hair that sits just below their shoulders. They have deep green eyes and freckles that dot their cheeks and nose.

Background:

Spoiler

Echo grew up in a small farming town in the Midwest. Growing up they found a passion in helping their father (Joseph) in the garage, fixing cars and helping their mother (Lola) on the off time in the attached convenience store. They learn more skills than just car maintenance though. Being the only people trained in maintenance, their father filled the role of an all around maintenance man often helping the local community with plumbing, wiring and even farm equipment. Often the family would trade services for some of the left over produce of the local farmers.

Once they were old enough they were sent to the big city to go to college. They studied engineering, learning the in’s and outs of technology. It was the goal of their family that they would be able to leave the community behind for good. Echo was a diligent student and managed well in school. They found a partner (Skye) and settled down. Though this was not to be for long. Only 3 years into their marriage, Joseph became very ill and Skye had family issues of their own. It was clear that things would not work the way they had been. First it was paperwork, then lawyers, and soon it seemed that all that Echo had worked for was for naught. They moved back to the small town to pick up where their father left off and to take care of their mother and ailing father.

Back home Echo found their groove in earnest, they adopted a St. Bernard pup from one of the local farmers and called him Archie, along with this they adopted an axanthic hognose snake named Dusty. They lived a good life there, though they never did lose their love of the tech they learned about at school and when the new VR headset that was supposed to be fully immersive dropped they couldn’t help themself.

Virtues

Spoiler

Analytical

Echo has a rather intellectual outlook allowing them to troubleshoot problems effectively. They enjoy puzzles and will happily spend hours working on a problem to find the appropriate solution. This can manifest as quiet compilation or as font of verbalization depending on the problem they are looking to solve and the surrounding situation as whole.

Compassionate

Being raised in, or perhaps by, the community taught Echo the values of compassion they do what they can to be kind to others and consider their intentions when going about things. This compassion extends to animals as well, it is not uncommon to find Echo out spending time in nature, as a hobby they would often feed the local wildlife and make friends with the birds. Trading services taught them how to value someone not for the money in their pockets but in the works they do for themselves and the community as a whole. In school they often went out of their way to attempt to brighten the day of those who found themselves struggling either with the workload or with their personal lives, and while Echo didn’t have many friends they tried to help others in any way they could.

Observant

Oftentimes Echo would go and try to pick out differences in the local farms. Small things at first but they would keep track of everything to see how much they could discern. This habit led to them honing their skills at observation and recall. They enjoyed going out and doing things like bird watching. Similarly this helped them learn to read people, though they sometimes jump the gun a bit if they think someone might be upset. Their keen eyes helped them find issues while troubleshooting or finding lost items.

Flaws

Spoiler

Blunt

The problem with being Analytical is that sometimes you have a hard time with nuance. It is not uncommon for Echo to miss jokes entirely, especially if they are innuendos often needing the jokes to be spelled out for them to get it and even then they might still not be able to see the humor. Because of their lack of nuance they have gotten themselves into trouble on occasion for not sugar coating things. This has led to problems in relationships both personal and professional. Echo has never let it get them down though.

Anxious

A relatively sheltered life breeds anxiety, be it in social situations or in their personal life Echo has a hard time calming down. It is not uncommon for their mind to race and spiral on topics or show them only the worst outcome to a situation. While not necessarily slow to adopt change, hesitancy runs rampant. It is often that their lack of confidence will get in the way of forming genuine connections with others, instead letting others push them over to avoid the confrontation of pushing back

Reclusive

Echo did not grow up around people their age, their town didn't have a school so they were home-schooled their whole life. Sure there were other kids in the town but most were teenagers when Echo was a child or children when Echo was a teenager. Their first real experiences with people their age was at college where their lack of confidence and lack of experience with others made it hard to make friends. Echo never went to parties, they were never invited. They would attend study sessions with classmates sure but oftentimes this was because they were good at their work. This leads them to not seek out friendship as much as they should and while they long for friends they don't really know what to do when they find them. Once they moved home they gained the same reputation you might have for the old woman who lives at the end of the road that everyone things is a witch, sure they help the community but no one really enters their house and they only ever seem to leave when called upon.
