Wildfire 0 Posted November 5 Author #21 Share Posted November 5 (edited) Walking back to the old tavern, Echo finds that the feeling of agitation passes rather quickly. So this first part was how to find materials. Cool. So then the next part will be to use them maybe? That would make sense as per other tutorials I guess I don't really know what else they might have me do? Oh…. there is going to be a combat one isn't there? Am I really prepared for that? Echo opens their inventory and looks at the 5 starter potions deposited there by Cardinal. I guess it will have to be enough, besides normally these combat tutorials are not lethal and it's just a teacher running you through the controls so surely it is something like that right? They open the old door to the inn, sitting slightly off kilter from its door frame. Empty again huh? I guess that’s fine but I will probably need to find some people to work with if I want to get anything done. Then again that means I have to try to find someone who might be interested in both working with someone low level AND in me. Echo sits hard onto the wooden bar stool and puts their head in their hands All this work and maybe it wont even bear fruit. I mean how far can this tutorial really progress me? Maybe Cardinal wants to encourage people and will give a substantial bonus. I guess I will just have to see. And besides I could go solo right?... yeah, no who am I kidding if I do that I will surely die. You hear about those solo players all the time after all. It never does end well for them. “Welcome back!” says the man behind the bar “How did your day go?” “Oh I actually made progress so I guess that is good. Got some materials and am going through the tutorial finally, so I guess it went okay. Had a bit of a problem in the woods but I got that sorted.” Echo responds sheepishly “Oh did you encounter an enemy?”” “N-... y-yeah that's what happened, could I have some broth, bread and a room please?” The man belly laugh “Sure, sure. You know here soon if you keep this up I will loose my last customer.” “Oh yeah, sorry about that” “No this place was meant to be used and left behind, I am sure that I will move on to better things once its all said and done” The bartender brings Echo their meal “Well I will leave you too it, have a good night!” “Yeah, you too” Echo eats their meal and makes their way back up to there room Tomorrow I will do what I can to finish this quest, I probably won’t have time to do my normal routine so I need to make sure I prepare for that Echo pulls the game manual up in their menu and begins reading for the rest of the night. ---------------------- WC: 499 Edited November 5 by Wildfire
Wildfire 0 Posted Saturday at 08:32 PM Author #22 Share Posted Saturday at 08:32 PM (edited) Fire burns in the hearth, small but with ferocity. It illuminates the homely room, a brown rug adorns the otherwise carpeted floor, a small round table, just big enough to sit four with a white doily on it. A lone figure sits in the armchair in the back corner…. It was my grandfather's favorite chair Echo thinks to themself as they sink into the plush and well used cushions. No sound stirs in the house, safe for the crackling of that small fire. I should go check on them Echo thinks as they try to stand. They go to adjust the position of their arm and find that it is stuck, but it is more than stuck. Echo looks down to see their arms bound to the chair by leather straps coming out of nowhere. They begin to struggle, the bindings keeping firm against their attempts. The fire grows. Echo wakes from sleep in a foggy haze, nearly blinded by the manuals they fell asleep reading. Those dreams never stop do they? They stretch and get up for the day. It was still dark out. It was always dark out when they awoke. I guess that is the punishment for my lifetime on the farm, the day doesn't start when the sun rises, it starts as soon as your body will let you. I do miss the animals though, I miss having something to latch onto, keep your attention. They make the shabby bed to the best of their abilities and make their way down to the bar. “A bit early today, huh? Cant sleep from excitement I’m sure” “No, I think I am just having some issues getting adjusted to this game. The timezone is so strange.” Echo says with a yawn “What did you expect from a game made in and based in Japan?” “You got me there” “I presume you want some food?” “Yeah I would appreciate anything you got” Accepting the familiar meal from the bartender, Echo does their best to eat but finds their appetite lacking. I guess that is to be expected. Leaving much on the plate they wave to the barkeep as they get up to leave, “Good luck out there!” ---------------- WC: 368 Edited Saturday at 08:35 PM by Wildfire
Wildfire 0 Posted Saturday at 08:41 PM Author #23 Share Posted Saturday at 08:41 PM (edited) Echo walks through the silent town towards one of many blacksmith shops. I wonder if they will be open or if I will be in need of waiting. I guess if worse comes to worse I can make my way out and keep looking for materials. I don’t want to get too far away from the safe-zone though, I want to be here as early as possible. Who knows how long this quest will last. To their pleasant surprise, there was the pleasant sound of hammer on steel as Echo approached Lyle Tealeaf’s blacksmith shop. I could listen to that sound for ages, I wish we had shops like this back at college. I can imagine that it would be a hotspot for people looking for somewhere to study. Echo takes a deep breath and walks into the shop. They stop to watch the blacksmith work, getting lost in the color of the steel, the slow movement of the metal. How interesting that they can capture that. I wonder if the creator was into medieval tool creation methods, then again there is so much that went into making things in this game as well as human interactions that I cant imagine one person would be able to research all of it well enough to create all of these things alone. Surely they had help. If they did have help why aren't any of the helpers stopping this ‘experiment’ its not like there is such a thing as an impenetrable cyber barrier. In that same vein I wo– “What do you want? I’m busy, either explain yourself or get out of my shop” the back smith says as he puts the hunk of steel back into the forge. “S-sorry, I am here because the mayor is l-” "I don't do anything without payment. Go deal with a few of those pesky boarlets for me, and bring them back whole or else just their tusks. I don’t care which. They're pretty weak, so even you shouldn't have any trouble. Do that, then I'll hear you out." “Oh I am sorry sir I am not really equipped to g-” Lyle gives Echo a stern, suffering look “I will lend you a weapon and some truffles. The truffles will let you put the boarletts to sleep if you are too weak to take them out yourself. Go grab a weapon that suits you from that pile. BUT DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT JUST WALKING OFF WITH IT” Echo shivers slightly and nods. “Th-thank you” Echo picks up a simple halberd not too dissimilar to their own. “I will be back as soon as I can” “You best” --------------- WC: 394 Halberd [Perfect] Acc 2 | DMG 1 - Equiped New Equipment + Stats Spoiler 20HP | 20 EN | 2 DMG | 1 Mit | 2 ACC | 4 LD =1 LD (Search R1) + 3 (Consumable) Halberd [Perfect] Acc 2 | DMG 1 Starter Leather Armour 1 Mit 5 starter healing potions Edited Saturday at 09:04 PM by Wildfire
Wildfire 0 Posted Saturday at 08:53 PM Author #24 Share Posted Saturday at 08:53 PM (edited) Echo walks out of the shop and through the town. It is still dark out. Better that way I think, I don’t really like having to push through crowds. The rhythmic pattering of leather boots on the cobblestone turned from harsh to soft as Echo reached the end of the town. You know before I go too crazy with the boars I have heard that there are treasure chests around. I bet that I might be able to find something useful if I can find one. They walk to the edge of a small clearing, it seems to have an indent out of it that leads to one of the more wooded sections of the floor. Taking their time they begin to look around, doing a thorough scan of the area. There has got to be something nearby, I will search as late as sunrise then I will give it a rest I think. So they searched, seconds turned to minutes, minutes to hours. As the sky began to lighten, though no sun had crested the horizon yet, they saw it. A chest half buried in the dirt. “WOO!” they exclaim as they involuntarily jump slightly. “I can't believe I actually found one! Wildfire 0 Posted Saturday at 09:05 PM Author #25 Share Posted Saturday at 09:05 PM (edited) Bending over Echo begins to take a look at the latch and lock. I guess I have to find a way to open it. I don’t think I have a skill but I can give it a go Echo attempts to open the lock. It clicks a few times as they get their positioning wrong. Then with one good attempt the chest clicks open. Okay so that is the hard part let's see what we have inside. Opening the chest they are stuck marveling for a moment as multiple items enter their inventory at once. Okay so the game has an idea of what you are probably going to want then when you open chests like this. I have consistently gone with polearms and thus it gives me polearms. I wonder if it does the same for other things. If I change the type of armor I prefer will I consistently get the new armor or will I find some of both? I will have to do some research to find out, I think. I wonder what they have on them, if they are useful I might have to try and equip one of these instead. Echo opens their inventory, checking the new additions Huh I guess what they have on them is not knowable until after I get them appraised. I guess I will just tuck them away for now then. On the bright side I got some more col and a ton of mats! I really need to obtain a craft after this, maybe that will be my next big mission. Wildfire 0 Posted Saturday at 09:32 PM Author #26 Share Posted Saturday at 09:32 PM (edited) It did not take long for Echo to find a Boarlet. They walked out into the clearing they had seen so many adventurers start their journey in. They take a moment to look up at the hill with the lonely tree. To think, not two days ago I was unsure if I even wanted to start this journey. I was going to stay there alone, by myself. But I am here now. It was not hard for the Boarlet to see Echo either. The two locked eyes. The seconds seemed to stretch out for an eternity, Echo could hear their heart pounding in their ears. They ready the halbird, ready to strike. To their great surprise they acted first, the spear-like tip grazing the Boarlets hide leaving a bright red gash, with a follow through Echo evading the Boarlets followup attack. Jumping a goodly distance away to readjust their footing. Okay, that wasn’t too hard. I just have to do more like that. The boarlet huffs at them seemingly frustrated to not get the first hit. --------------------- WC: 176 ID: 237371 BD 9 [Hit] {2dmg} = 7 (Roll) + 2 (ACC) MD 4 [Miss] = 4 (Roll) Spoiler [1] Wildfire 20/20 HP | 19/20 EN | 2 DMG | 2 ACC | 1 MIT | 4 LD Boarlet 3/5 HP | 3 DMG Edited Tuesday at 06:15 PM by Wildfire
Wildfire 0 Posted Tuesday at 01:37 AM Author #27 Share Posted Tuesday at 01:37 AM (edited) It was real now, Echo could feel the adrenaline rushing through them. This was real, they were doing it. They could feel as the speed of time seemed to eb and flow with every breath. So this is what those base jumpers are chasing. I can imagine that once all of this is said and done there are going to be a lot more adrenaline junkies out there. I bet that energy drink companies sweep people up in a heartbeat. Now I need to focus, watch the movements of the boar. It looks like I did an okay amount of damage this time, I just have to do that same thing again. And it looks like I might have an opening. Watching and waiting patiently, Echo sees the boarlet making a circle around them, going in for a moderate attack. Inspired by the small victory of landing a hit steadying them, Echo watches for the shift in the enemy and sees it coming in for an attack. A bit of quick footwork allows Echo to sidestep the oncoming attack and instead slash across the boarlet with the ax-head of the Halberd ----------------- WC: 191 ID 237450 BD 6 [Hit] {2 dmg} = 4 BD (Roll) + 2 (ACC) MD 2 [Miss] = 2 MD (Roll) Spoiler [2] Wildfire 20/20 HP | 19/20 EN | 2 DMG | 2 ACC | 1 MIT | 4 LD Boarlet 1/5 HP | 3 DMG Edited Tuesday at 06:15 PM by Wildfire
Wildfire 0 Posted Tuesday at 01:42 AM Author #28 Share Posted Tuesday at 01:42 AM (edited) A second hit, the boarlet is so close now. I think If I just do that again I should be able to finish the job. Gearing up for the same strike Echo watches the boarlet as it makes another dash in a small circle gaining speed. Okay you have done it twice just lunge when it gets close and…. Echo lunges, their halberd flies through the air leaving their midsection open. The boarlet now expects this adjusts its trajectory ever so slightly as to get out of the way of the slash. The tusks and head of the boarlet hit Echo square in the chest, flinging them backwards. Echo’s head swims as they hit the ground with a thud. Oh- Okay I- I am glad that I can't really break any limbs in this game because I think I would need to go to the hospital if this happened in the real world. Echo stands shakily to their feet, using the pole-arm to support themself as they stand. Okay just re adjust your footing you can do this. It would have made it much easier to know how to grab this. And it's not like there were any places to learn martial arts as a child anyway. The boarlet lunges for them not attempting to make a circle this time. Slightly unsure of their footing. Echo strikes out with the pole-arm hitting not but air, focusing on their footwork to avoid the motions of their opponent. The sun was high overhead now, the time having gotten away from them. It did not take too long before they made eye contact with a new Boarlet to fight. Alright, just like before we get into position. They crouch down to better have their spear in a defensive position in case the beast attacked first. I have to let it come to me, but also provoke it to some degree. Neither of the two breaking eye contact the boarlet also gets into an attack position ready to strike. Echo approaches, one step. Then another, then another, until -woosh- the halberd slices through the air, the boar lunges at Echo, and with a slight over thrust on both parts the two attacks sing past each other as the two combatants readjust, evaluating the change Man I really thought I would have it with that one. They just needed one good opening. They take a breath, feeling the warm summer air on their tongue, the taste of pollen thick. Finding their footing they see their shot. They aim, taking a moment to be sure they will strike true, they step the muscles in their legs jumping into action. One clean hit, the boar is skewered in place, the tip of the Halberd coming out the other side and briefly pinning the boar to the ground. I need to keep my reach advantage its the whole point of a pole-arm. -------------- WC: 215 ID 237531 BD 11 [Crit Hit +1] {3 DMG = 2 Base + 1 Crit} = 9 BD (Roll) + 2 (ACC) MD 1 {Crit Fail} Spoiler [2] Wildfire 18/20 HP | 15/20 EN | 2 DMG | 2 ACC | 1 MIT | 4 LD Boarlet #3 2/5 HP | 3 DMG Edited Tuesday at 11:45 PM by Wildfire
