The first obstacle in his path would be the rebirthed Cerberus. Though for Wulfrin that was less of an inconvenience. Cerberus's rebirth meant he could grab one of the few remaining sword arts he was missing. This one supposedly applied burn on a hit, and considering that the DoT version of the enhancements usually required precise swordplay that even Wulfrin couldn't nail 100% of the time. Having a guaranteed to proc option would increase his already expansive arsenal. Wulfrin's info on the rematch of Cerberus was limited to what he could gather via rumors. The main thing he picked up was that debuffs and disables would have no effect, so Wulfrin planned accordingly. He had donned a set of armor with fireproof and was wielding two pieces of his grinding set. Cerberus has basically doubled in size and radiated a heat similar to that of Avernus, the hidden area beyond the gate he guarded. Wulfrin's blade stood at the ready as he approached. As wulfrin took the last step to enter the den proper, Cerberus let loose a mighty roar that shook the infernal cavern around him. Three additional beasts manifested in the wake of the mighty roar. In unison their health bars appeared revealing their upgraded names: Cerberus, Inferno's Rage and Infernal Hellhounds. Wulfrin noticed the heads were too large to hit all three with one AoE like he had before, so he opted for another strategy. With speed and precision, Wulfrin focused on the Hellhound lackies. As he finished his rapid strikes with his Phoenix Wing sword art, he turned his blade toward the massive three headed doggie. The resulting stun seemed to effect the Hellhounds, but Cerberus himself seemed unphased, but that was to be expected, after all what kind of boss just lets you stun lock them into oblivion. Cerberus retaliated with each head bearing its fangs towards Wulfrin. Thanks to additional freedom of his Phoenix Memoir armor and his custom skill Shades of the Gemini, Wulfrin managed to slip out of the way of the fiery cainine. * * * Note: All abilities relating to burn damage are being excluded as Wulfrin has Fireproof. His blade continuously alight with a sword art that was border line button mashing in a game with no buttons. Each strike was calculated though, as he needed to be precise with his attacks. The trick to getting the Sword Art he was after was to get each head of Cerberus, Inferno Rage down to about a quarter of its health bar without killing any of the heads. This last barrage of attacks from Wulfrin not only cleared the field of Infernal Hellhounds, but also brought the first of Cerberus's heads down to the proper level. Cerberus, now without its minions, retaliated against Wulfrin. Each head snarling and snapping at the tiny gnat that was harassing its nap. No attack found its mark though as Wulfrin evaded the flaming maws with ease. His custom skill was helping in that aspect, though a majority of his success had to be given to the simple Tier 1 armor he was wearing. The Phoenix Memoir was pulling its weight rather well as the flames around him left no mark. * * * Note: All abilities relating to burn damage are being excluded as Wulfrin has Fireproof. The added part of Cerberus, Inferno Rage being immune to stuns meant his go to attack would have to be the basic sword arts available to all players. Wulfrin focused in on the middle head. In his mind is was simple focus on one head at a time, and most importantly don't get hit. Wulfrin's blade carved through the flesh of Cerberus's middle head with ease, though not without consequence. While Wulfrin was stuck in the post sword art freeze, Cerberus lashed out in retaliation. The leftmost head managed to sink its teeth into Wulfrin's digital mesh and claim a decent chunk of his health bar. The other two heads attempted to follow up, but couldn't connect as Wulfrin regained his ability to move. His blade continued to dance across the hide of his infernal canine foe. Every strike continued to drop the health points of the middle head. Eventually its health bar hit the critical point. Wulfrin immediately ceased his assault as to avoid killing the middle head. In the post art freeze though, Wulfrin found himself improperly positioned. It didn't help that Cerberus was changing attack patterns. Wulfrin found himself getting pincer attacked by the middle and right heads both finding purchase in Wulfrin's digital form. One of the attacks carried significantly more damage. Wulfrin winced as the pain absorbers did their work. A glance up revealed the left head coming in for its attack, but now Wulfrin was free to move all he wanted and effortlessly dodged the incoming attack. The good news was that the middle head was now in range, leaving just one more to take down before Wulfrin could stop worrying about technicalities. * * * Note: All abilities relating to burn damage are being excluded as Wulfrin has Fireproof. Wulfrin's blade carved into the right head with similar precision to the previous heads. In between strikes Wulfrin eyed his health carefully. His own HP was approaching his personal danger zone of half. His left had drifted into the deep pockets of his armor and pulled out a small healing crystal that had been keeping stashed away for the raid. He had hoped not to dip into his stash, but he had no choice. Each attack from Cerberus, Inferno Rage was devastating enough to warrant extra caution. Wulfrin had chosen his loadout to maximize his chances at avoiding the attacks of Cerberus. Unfortunately, Wulfrin's luck didn't seemed to be holding out. Cerberus had landed at least one attack for each of Wulfrin's. The rightmost head was now one strike form its target area. The gat behind it was flung open revealing the expanse of Avernus beyond it. Three more Hellhounds made their way through as Wulfrin recovered from his Sword Art. Cerberus's flesh flared with a brighter intensity that Wulfrin merely scoffed at. The fireproof on his armor was going to negate any fire damage that would come his way, so unless the boss got his damage buffed, Wulfrin had nothing to worry about. The new Infernal Hellhounds approached Wulfrin. One of them managed to make use of Wulfrin's recovery time and snuck in an attack. "All right," Wulfrin muttered to himself. "Phase two: Eliminate All Hostiles" Wulfrin recentered himself as he prepared for a repeat of the start of the fight. The bonus of this portion, each strike from Wulfrin meant one less enemy attack heading his way. The hellhounds reeled from the stunning strike whil the left head of Cerberus fell limp in defeat. The two remaining heads lashed out towards Wulfrin with only one being able to land a blow on Wulfrin's avatar. His health continued to deplete at an uncomfortable rate. Wulfrin himself was now in a danger zone of his own. His own health pool was approaching the red. The enemy opposition that Wulfrin faced was already seeing significant decline in numbers. The Hellhound reinforcements were stunned and within kill range of another Wulfrin volley. The two remaining Cerberus were in the same boat, though they were still able to strike back if Wulfrin can keep his momentum up. He charged forward and wrapped up the three Infernal Hellhounds and the right most head of Cerberus, Inferno Rage in an AoE stun art. It was an unneccessary use of the skill as all the targets were immune to the stun, but they weren't going to get an attack anyway as the three hellhounds and Cerberus's right head fell limp to Wulfrin's volley. That left the middle head for Wulfrin to face. Wulfrin anticipated the attack from his singular target and effortlessly dodged Cerberus's frantic last attack towards the swordsman. The board was cleared and now all that remained was the final head. The gate to Avernus remained open as if beckoning Wulfrin to enter, but Wulfrin's attention remained focused on its guardian. Wulfrin had to move quick though. He was both surveying the items he had accumulated from his bout with Cerberus and preparing for his descent into hell. His Phoenix Memoir faded to a simple set of travelers clothes. His ring, Dragon's Hoard materialized onto one of his fingers as he entered what he deemed Loot Mode. His last venture into the area revealed he was more than able to clear it with out the aid of his regular kit. His health steadily climbed as did his energy. So long as the latter was back to full, he should be in no danger from here on out. "Let's not fret the details," Wulfrin said as he continued his brief inventory session. "Worst case I do a brief look around and assess the situation and then come back later with a friend or two to clear it. For the moment though I'm thinking of ways I can use this etching." Wulfrin produced a small tablet of stone with a series of runes on it. "Seems like I can apply burn to a weapon. As much as I'd like to do it, I don't see a point considering the sword art I just unlocked seems to do the same thing, but guaranteed to proc. He had emerged on a cliff overlooking a massive valley bellow where two sides remained locked in an unending battle. The two factions warring were both of fiendish make, but Wulfrin was able to find a distinction. One side was organized, following a strict hierarchy. The other was simply running off of chaos and numbers. "Devils and Demons," Wulfrin commented from his high vantage point. "If this some how spread to the other floors who knows what could happen. This time it was less about testing waters and more about just pushing forward towards the citadel. For the most part he was managing well enough to evade the battle unfolding around him. That was until a group of demonic warriors broke off and began to assault him. Unable to out run his new opponents, Wulfrin spun around on his back foot and brought up his sword to bare against the four demons still following him. His platinum longsword erupted with the light of his stunning strike, Phoenix Wing. In one arcing strike, Wulfrin managed to create enough distance to keep moving. The blade left his demonic followers stunned. Wulfrin kept pressing farther until there was a suitable distance between them and the rest of the ongoing chaos to put of a fight. His platinum sword sliced through the air in a vibrant arc as it cut a large swath through the air. The advancing soldiers each took a blow from Wulfrin's blade as the four targets burst into a shower of small light particle effects signifying their defeat. An info panel appeared detailing the dropped loot from Wulfrin's fiendish followers. Wulfrin immediately went back into quick traversal mode, returning his blade to its scabbard. Wulfrin kept moving, weaving in and out of the ongoing conflict to the best of his ability. Small groups of mobs were easy enough to take out, but if he were to draw the full attention of the massive monsters around him, it would be a death sentence. Wulfrin was almost at the steps of the Citadel. His eyes continued to follow the mural to its end where the angel placed their sword into the ground and around it a pristine white cathedral rose around it. Wulfrin's gently traced a coloumn to the center of the chamber where a longsword rested, blade lodged in the marble of a raided dais. "Weird there's no monsters guarding this," Wulfrin said as he approached the blade with caution. Wulfrin extended his hand to grasp the hilt. As he did, his vision began to blur. When it finally cleared in his hand was his platinum longsword, drawn and ready for battle. Around him a village was being razed by hyena like humanoids. Without a second throught, Wulfrin charged forward towards a group that was attacking a defenseless family. "What's happening here?" Wulfrin asked the NPCs as they got to their feet. "I've no idea kind swordsman," A man in his mid forties said as he ushered his family behind him. "They came out of nowhere and began terrorizing our village. Speaking of which, I don't recognize your dress. Are you from some far away land?" "You could say that," Wulfrin said as he held open a nearby door for the family to retreat. "I'm kind of lost actually. Think you can tell me where I am?" "Idyllglen," The man replied with a solemn voice. "Well what's left of it anyway." "Thanks. Y'all stay here and take cover. I'll do what I can to run these invaders off." "Zariel protect you." The plot thickens, Wulfrin thought to himself. Turns out Idyllglen isn't even on the floating castle. Wulfrin's mind began to spiral through countless possibilities, most of which revolving around some sort of cut content or similar scenarios that would have brought players to the world below Aincrad. Reguardless of how he got here, the reason for him being here was clear: Save Idyllglen. Another shout of terror pierced his ears as his attention snapped back to his virtual reality. Just a few yards away another group of fiendish hyena people were attacking an NPC desperately trying to keep them at bay with a broken chair. Wulfrin charged forward, his blade carving a path through allowing him to impose himself between the NPC and their assailants. "No one else is dying here to day," Wulfrin proclaimed as he prepared to strike. Wulfrin didn't stop to relish in his victory this time as he immediately began to move towards another group beating on the door of what Wulfrin assumed was the town hall. He could hear the screams coming from inside, but as he began to assess the situation, hope began to vanish from his demeanor. There was a literal army attempting to break down the barricaded door. Wulfrin knew full well it would be a death sentence to challenge head on and began formulating some sort of game plan. As Wulfrin crunched numerous possibilities in his head, the sound of a war horn echoed through the air. Descending from the heavens atop a golden mammoth with wings, an angel rode down, the shimmering longsword that had brought Wulfrin here held high as their battle cry hummed through the area. From behind him another army, this one primarily human and other fantasy mortal races charged through on horse back. In one unified effort, they pushed back the invading forces through a rift opened by their angelic war leader. As the chaos came to a conclusion, Wulfrin watched a crowd form around the angelic soldier and their men, no attention being paid towards Wulfrin. Cheers of celebration were had as the name Zariel was thrown several times over in thanks. "That angel must be Zariel then," Wulfrin muttered as he watched the festivities. "But why am I being shown this?" With a heavy grunt, Wulfrin pushed back his foe. He was surrounded by four fiends chomping at the bit to tear into his flesh around him combat was roaring. The same army he had witnessed run the fiends out of Idyllglen was fighting devil and demon alike attempting to break through the chaos around them. Wulfrin moved quick to stun the ones attacking him, allowing him a chance to better assess the battlefield. The humanoids were losing and Wulfrin witnessed their morale begin to tank drasticlly before they began to retreat. Their leader Zariel locked in combat with several far larger beasts was now starting to get overwhelmed. "Do not run!" Zariel would call out to the army, but they would not hear. "We can still push through!" The last humanoid soldier retreated through the rift just be fore it closed leaving Zariel and Wulfrin alone in the tide of chaos. "Damn it." Wulfrin cursed as he watched Zariel's expression sour. "I've got to help. I'm their only back up." Then Wulfrin spotted a familiar face watching on. Whatever this extended event he was witnessing was, he didn't like the idea of an army essentially leaving their commanding officer to die. Wulfrin pushed forward continuing to cut a large swath through the clashing armies. When he finally emerged from the ongoing chaos, his eyes fell upon a gruesome sight. Before him was Zariel, the blade of their sword planted deep in the ground as Levistus stood over them with his devilish charm exuding outward chilling the hot air around him. "Well now Zariel," Levistus smirked as he lay a hand on the kneeling angel's shoulder. "I take it our pact is forged?" "Yes," The angel spoke sorrow filling their voice. "I find your terms acceptable." "Good," Levistus smirked as ice began to slowly crawl down the back of the holy warrior. "You shall be granted your wish to fight in the Blood War for eternity." "NO!" Wulfrin shouted as he reached out towards Zariel. He watched in horror as the once pure white angelic wings began to blacken and the angelic presence that Zariel once carried gave way to a more fiendish nature. Levistus grinned as if taunting Wulfrin before fading into an icy mist and vanished just as fast as he had appeared. Wulfrin found himself grasping the hilt of Zariel's sword again. He was back within the citadel, the familiar sounds of the Blood War erupting just beyond the walls. The citadel began to quake and crack.
