Typhoonflame 0 Posted December 22, 2024 Author #21 Share Posted December 22, 2024 Still in shock over that last thought, Ty jolted when Freyd suddenly commanded her to take Koko to safety. She'd never really heard him command anyone before, having always seen him as the relatively calm and kind, moderate leader. But now, his other, more serious, side, showed through. The light was gone in an instant, making Ty grab Koko's hand so as to not lose the girl in the sudden darkness. "Come on, Koko!" she shouted, pulling the girl along. Koko stumbled, but held on to Ty's hand like a lifeline, just as she had done with Freyd. Ty closed her eyes when Freyd told her not to look back. With anyone else, she'd have been hard-pressed to make that decision to leave, but she knew her leader could handle himself with beasts far mightier than a mere bat, despite the word "giant" in its name. Even she had managed to kill one, after all. She ran with all her strength, making sure to never let Koko's hand slip from her grasp, then hugged her as they made it into the light. "Shh, it's okay, we made it, we did it. It's all okay now." she soothed, stroking the girl's hair. She'd always been bad with kids and had no siblings, so she had no idea what else to do. As Freyd emerged, she looked up. "Mentally scarred, I think, but fine." She winced. "Sorry I faltered." The question of why she'd faltered would be a discussion for a later time. Little arms wrapped themselves around his neck as the girl's head rested, exhausted, against his shoulders. "Nice work," Freyd beamed, blue eyes filled with warmth starkly contrasting to the hardness she'd witnessed only moments before. Stakes in combat were too high, especially for those more vulnerable than himself. It was his job to keep them safe, and Ty could see how seriously he took that responsibility. "Come on, little one. Let's get you back to your mom, and then maybe a quick trip to the nearest bar or restaurant for a warm meal and stiff drink?" Something about his companion's demeanor told him she might need it. "It's been a big day for everyone, and should end on a happy note." Giving Ty a reassuring pat on the shoulder as they wandered away from the cave's cold and dark, Koko was already snoring on his back *** Thread Closing: ID 239142 | LD 9 x 25 = 425 quest reward col.
