The Paladin stepped up to platform of the tomb that was surrounded by graves. The single shinning light in the darkness of the necropolis she had brought her party to basically just to watch.

*several hours earlier*

Yuki had awoken from her sleep to learn that a quest she had never done was still on her list of things to do from before she had gone on hiatus. It was one where she would have needed Night’s help back in the day, plus several healing potions. These days, Yuki was basically invincible to anything that wasn’t labeled a floor boss. She could just go and solo the boss if she wanted…

However, that was boring and selfish. If she could solo a four person quest, she would bring along some newbies, or blossoming frontliners. A message would reach out to guilds and on the first floor.

”Hello, I am the Frontline tanker named Yuki. You may have spent time in my shop or seen me fighting along with you against Callisto just weeks ago. I am going to be soloing a boss with three empty slots in my party and I welcome newcomers, either to the frontlines or Aincrad in general, who don’t mind a quick boost. Be there or be square. The fight begins at Noon, Local Time, Floor 21.”

The message is handwritten signed with an extremely neat signature in Japanese.

Fast forward to now: 11:58am Local Time. Yuki stood on the opposite side of her opponent. Her eyes would meet the people coming into tomb she had cleared out herself. Zero mobs would cause them any problems. “Welcome friends.” She would yell over, somehow not aggravating the desiccated corpse of a once revered man. They would all receive party invites. “I have rules for partying with me. Rule 1: Do NOT under ANY circumstances come between me and the enemy. If I tell you, you all will leave without a second thought. Rule 2: Do not try to act like a hero. If you cannot take a hit from a boss like this don’t dare try to engage. Rule 3: Anything that I say is paramount. You will listen, or you might be slaughtered. I hope these rules are reasonable.” The clock ticked to 11:59am, Yuki would notice unsheathing her own massive lance that matched her opponent’s. She was ready to begin one of the toughest fights she’d ever face to this day that wasn’t inside a boss room.

The Tracker would find the meet up place along with Wulfrin, who agreed to come along. He was a lot stronger than her so maybe he’s could actually help the tank that put out the message of a free carry. She wasn’t actually sure what it meant other than it would give her experience and if she wanted to see more of Aincrad, she needed to get stronger.

The small group travelled through the empty Necropolis where the Forgotten King laid to rest. He was back and could reform his undead army to take over the entirety of Aincrad. That’s at least what the information on the quest said. From the sound of it this Forgotten King was powerful - Insanely powerful. No one could rival his strength. Firefly wondered who could match him. What were the people on the frontlines like?

Nevertheless, she would arrive with them, meeting Yuki who was already staring down the opponent that returned her gaze with a sunken stare. The paladin would state her rules which Firefly would scoff at slightly. It was pretty demanding of her to order them around… until she remembered what they were there for. She was sure that Yuki was doing what she needed to keep them alive. “Perhaps I should just stand back then…” The young girl would timidly hide after accepting the party invite.

Armed with her hammer, heavy plate armor, and shield Eve made her way up to Floor 21. The invite had come as a surprise to her, but she wasn't one to turn down some easy experience gains. As a literal walking tank her damage output wasn't quite there, but she was quickly getting to the point where she could absorb damage with incredible efficiency, a helpful skill considering she had absolutely zero idea how actual combat worked. She was prompt to arrive at the designated spot. She stood arms crossed as she awaited her guides to arrive. When they did, it was order after order.

"So," KnightinGale lowered her hammer as she resigned herself to spectator. "Same deal as that pajama wearing nut case that took down a shark with his bare hands. I know the drill. Best I just watched as I'm geared to draw monster attention to me."

Wulfrin accompanied Firefly out to the meeting spot. The Forgotten Time King had been completed by his hands a couple of times now, even though he had yet to get to the point he could do it solo. When the offer arose for him to accompany a fellow frontliner out on a run, he leapt at the opportunity. He hadn't ventured out with nor witnessed this particular frontliner's combat skills yet outside of the passing glances he took during the Callisto raid. Though having walked out of the raid without any player deaths, they must be at least somewhat capable.

"Yuki, if you can keep it's attention," Wulfrin chimed in, dovetailing off Yuki's initial briefing. "I can keep up the damage output. Between the two of us, it should be an easy run. Now before we go slaying kings."

Wulfrin revealed a shard of ancient metal suspended from a thin chain necklace. With a gentle tap, a large spread of meats and cheeses appeared before him and the party.

"Best we buff up," Wulfrin continued as he urged the others to partake. "The evasion will help make it less likely to take a rouge attack."

Yuki gave her speech, glad that the members understood why she was so firm with them. Wulfrin was nice enough to supply some extra buffs, and even though they were detrimental to her build she would feel bad to not partake on a buff that would otherwise just be wasted. Hopefully the King had some good accuracy.

As the group was finished in their setup, Yuki would turn to the two who were deciding to sit this tribulation out. "I would find cover, I'm known to be destructive." It was untrue, what she just said, but whatever she could do ensure the safety of others was necessary. After all, their deaths would expressly be her fault if something were to happen.

As she approached the Forgotten King, she was caught off guard with how quickly he could move but the buff had made her feel light on her feet. He launched from the dirt covered floors of his tomb, sending bones and skeletons flying in his wake. His spear grazed a weak spot in her armor, and the paladin hardly flinched. "That's all?" Her free hand would reach out to his head, grabbing the large desiccated corpse by the remains of it's face, and slamming it to the ground forcefully. Fire began to circulate her being, lighting everything on fire around her in a golden radiance.

"Disappointing, I had heard you were one of the strongest bosses in the game up to date. You're still nothing compared to the floor bosses. Boring but effective I guess." The Time King's hand would burn away as it touched her arm, crawling his grip until it had hold of her neck. Yuki coughed in surprise as it's overwhelming strength hidden in scrawny muscles lifted her and itself straight from the ground. "Then- ack! I guess we'll see if you can last!"

The King launched his target into the wall and busted forward to follow up, but Yuki's spear found his abdomen first. She would kick him off her lance and ready herself for the next attack.

Firefly took a couple more steps back at Zajcica's warning. She had never gotten the chance to see what a front liner is truly capable of despite knowing Wulfrin, Ciela and Morningstar. Was it really that crazy up here?

Her question would be quickly answered as the fight began. Yuki tossed her enemies around like rag dolls and they did the same to her. The once-blind young adult took even more steps back when the golden aura of the paladin shone through. Assuming Knightingale joined her, Firefly would yell over the loud conflict. "Is this what highly experienced players are capable of?! I could never be that strong!"

She would take cover behind a slab of stone to keep herself safe and watch the fight from a place where she wouldn't feel threatened. Though realistically, what was stopping the decayed monster from storming over here with that speed and impaling her. "Sh-Should I really be here?" The girl would say nervously, not really expecting an answer but still searching for one nonetheless.

KnightinGale watched the fight with an analytical eye. From what she could tell, the self proclaimed paladin was a similar build to the idea she had rolling around in her head. She would become a walking heavily armored tank designed to handle long drawn out conflicts to the best of her ability, even if her sister didn't need or want her help. That part still stung a bit. She had come to this virtual prision hoping to find and make sure Odette made it out, as it turned out Eve's sister had already made strides to accomplish that goal on her own. Meaning Eve had come here for essentially nothing. Even now, when they should be at each other's side, Odette was distant. 

"You'll be fine," KnightinGale said as she stepped a few steps forward putting herself between Firefly and the ongoing boss fight. "We're far enough away that it shouldn't do anything to us. Looks like they've got it covered."

The conflict before her continued to unfold. The heavily armored gal was doing well keeping the monarch's attention, though Eve knew if she even so much as attempted to hit the thing she'd easily draw its attention. Perhaps the paladin wasn't as kitted as Eve initially thought.

"Hey beautiful," Wulfrin chuckled as he seemingly appeared in FTK's shadow. "Remember me?"

Wulfrin's blade was already alight with a sword art that raked across the Forgotten Time King's back as it stumbled back from the spear thrust to it's abdomen. Wulfrin was ready to go all out on the foe before him as Yuki kept its full undivided attention. He was more fleet of foot, so his role had basically been decided before they even entered the icy arena. The downside of FTK's particular fight was that his thing is negating debuffs and disablements, which completely shuts down 90% of what Wulfrin does in combat. This meant Wulfrin is nothing more than a damage battery

"Spoiler alert," Wulfrin dovetailed off Yuki's taunts. "It's not going to be very long. She may have your attention, but I've got your medication in the form of easily digestible damage doses. Hope you like vapocool."

The battle moved as ferociously as it had begun. Yuki was still waiting for her sword art to come off cooldown and oddly enough, her spear was quite good at keeping the Time King at bay. Clashes between their pole-arms was enough to send smaller rocks and bones scattered through the necropolis flying a few feet.

”Tch, amateur.” Yuki grinned and chuckled. Being cocky was too in her nature thanks to her insurmountable defensive prowess. The King’s spear found a gap in her defense reaching directly for her face. However, the paladin had shown her ability to grab weapons from lesser beings before because it would proc her thorns more often. Her hand gripped the tip of the lance, no damage dealt to her, and without a moment skipped, she bent the spear to one side. A pink light enveloped the room and tore through the King’s chest. A massive red gash and a bent spear was all that was left from their clash. It stumbled back like the shambling corpse it was.

Yuki took note of her HP which gave her a small ding to ensure her 100% reminded her the situation was under control. “ガチるよう。”

Firefly moved out from the rock when Knightingale ensured her it would be safe. Others were usually pretty adamant about keeping her away from the fighting, mostly because she was a fresh new player without much to keep her alive. “I-I see. Well, that pink haired woman sure is tough. Her health has hardly dropped after all those attacks.” In the cave, Firefly recalled how she basically moved with a thought. Her body took control and her sword lit up with a very bright light much like the paladin’s only with a different color. “What’s up with the shining colors on the blade? They’re pretty but I’ve done them by accident and don’t really understand it.”

When Yuki caught the enemies weapon in her hand, the once-blind girl flinched expecting her tank to lose her hand. Surprisingly enough that didn’t really happen. “H-How?! So cool! How can I learn to do that?!” Her eyes lit up.

KnightinGale crossed her arms as she watched the fight from a safe distance. Her eyes were fixed on the blades shining different colors as Firefly had pointed out. KnightinGale had kind of toyed around with them herself, Sword Arts she was pretty sure they were called. They were a way of boosting one's damage output, at least that's what the guides had said. That didn't mean she understood them in any meaningful way. Every time she stepped out of the small cracker box of a room she had on Floor 1, it was a whole new adventure. She was starting to see the appeal that made her sister gravitate towards gaming. One day she may play in the big leagues, but for now she'd have to be content watching from the sidelines. Seeing how much damage was being thrown around, she new better than to step in.

"Read the guidebook," KnightinGale huffed as she placed her weight on the handle of her hammer. "Pretty sure those are called Sword Arts. The guidebook talked about them but it went straight over my head. I'm pretty sure it said something about boosting damage output."

Wulfrin continued to be the silent swordsman in the shadows, chiseling away at the Forgotten Time King's HP as Yuki let it chase her around the arena. Wulfrin closed the distance that had been created by utilizing his Charge skill. Wulfrin's blade carved into the undead king's form with ferocity, speed, and precision. His most powerful sword art decimated another large chunk of the boss's health bar. Wulfrin didn't want to be stealing all the thunder of the pink clad tank, but if he didn't at least attempt they might be there all day. Yuki's damage output wasn't anything to scoff at mind you. it was just that Wulfrin knew in his head that he was guaranteed to hit his target and hit with exceptional force as well.

"Few more of those and we'll be calling it wraps," Wulfrin said to himself as he circled around behind the Forgotten Time King again. "At least this is good training for me. I can now know for a fact that I couldn't do this solo."

"I had really hoped for a bit of a challenge this time around. I remember so many people complaining about the difficulty of this boss, yet he's nothing but a pushover." Her cockiness was generally negligent to her duty as a tank but when you were at the level the paladin was, the was simply a science to it. Her numbers had gone beyond that of an enemy who's only skills involved high damage output. It was laughable how easy it was to become so invincible that threat was miniscule. "I'm more than happy to help you with the clear Wulfrin. We're all together in this and we should act as such."

The fight continued heatedly as she spoke. The two spearmen charged and clashed as they attempted to get a hit in on the other. Every impact could be heard with the reverberation of steel on steel. The FTK would find the hit before her, sending her flying on her back. The tank slid on the ground in the direction of the two on-lookers. Her sharp pink eyes, modified by in game cosmetics of course, would meet theirs and her lackadaisical expression would quickly change. Taking her eyes off the enemy, though he would find the perfect moment to jump and impale her into the ground with his own spear. Her HP would hardly dip but now she was pinned to the ground.

The FTK's hp would dip much further but his eyes would also lock with the two individuals. Yuki, struggling with the spear in her abdomen would quickly reach for the ankles of her opponent and yank him down giving the two time to move out of the way. He would fall to the floor and Yuki would stand, the spear rising up with her from the ground with a pained growl. "You bastard! I'm the one you should be keeping your eyes on. I'll crush your skull if you even think of hurting them!" She would retrieve her spear and return the favor.

Firefly would listen intently while she jotted down some notes in her adventures book, making a reminder to reread the player's guide that NightinGale brought up. She hadn't given it much thought considering she's only been reading the phonetic alphabet since she started to level up. "So attacking without using a sword art is a bit of a deficit to your strategy? I assume they must get stronger as you level up then." The girl would say, showing her true colors as a noob to the other.

Her notetaking and discussion would be interrupted by the paladin's reckless combat, however. A small shriek would escape her as both of the fighters locked eyes on them. Fear washed over her like the rain in spring. Firefly would quickly move out of the way with NightinGale while Yuki did her best to ensure the attention of her opponent didn't change. "Things can get rather hectic in these fights. I'm glad we're here with frontliners."

"I'm pretty sure it's less about level and more about skill ranks," KnightinGale commented as the battle unfolded before them. "But I'll be honest most of it is Greek to me. If it weren't for players like those two, I wouldn't be doing as well as I am. I'm basically just riding coat tails. Up until recently I couldn't even take off my armor via the menu. Video games aren't exactly my style."

The walking corpse that was getting absolutely rocked by the two frontliners eventually turned its gaze towards Eve and Firefly. While fear washed over her fellow rookie, KnightinGale showed no signs of faltering. Instead, she hefted her heavy hammer into a battle position and raised her shield. Her emerald eyes locked with the Time Kings as she stood firm ready to do whatever she could to hold back the attack. Eve only lowered her weapon and shield once attention was drawn away from the two of them.

"I like the pink one's fighting style," KnightinGale commented as the fight continued to unfold before her. "I think that might be what I aim for as I progress. Seems like it'd give me the best odds."

"Appreciate it," Wulfrin chuckled as he prepared for his next barrage of strikes. "I probably could if I was able to raise my damage output some more, but I'm kind of poor so the gear is a bit out of my reach."

So far the battle was going well. The Forgotten Time King's health bar had dipped drastically. When the boss turned its gaze away from the pink colored tank, Wulfrin's mid immediately went into overdrive. He looked for every possible way to stop FTK from running down the two low level players that were being escorted through the quest. Yuuki then brought the boss's attention fully back to her. With that, an opening was presented to Wulfrin to take another large chunk from the boss's pool of hit points. Wulfrin pulled forth both the horn of a rhino and a small crystal from the pockets of his armor as he rushed forward. Accompanying the usual heavy impact of his strike, a burst of holy light filled the throne room. A massive crater was all that remained in the spot where Wulfrin's blade had made its impact, the boss shaking off the other effects that Wulfrin's strike would have conveyed.

"Case and point," Wulfrin scoffed as he began to circle for another attack. "This dude hard counters my current set up."
