Nymoria 0 Posted February 19 Author #21 Share Posted February 19 (edited) The Lich had managed to absorb a portion of her strike – and yet she could see it withering slightly in response. While it seemed to open its mouth in what Nymoria could only assume was a cackling sound, she saw Freyd across from her preparing…something. She watched in confusion, staring between him and the creature before them, as she lined herself up for her own follow-up strike. What’s that? She felt her eyes glide down slightly towards the saucer like instrument that the creature hovered on, an idea forming in her head even as she smiled slightly in response to the realisation. She could see now – and an earlier scrapping of words that hadn’t quite made sense from Freyd – that the Lich levitated through its position on top of the saucer. Bringing her sabre back up, she gave a nod towards the dish, tilting her head in an odd manner to do so as she signed towards Freyd. Saucer. Flip. Watch. She turned back towards the Lich, before feeling an odd sensation wash over her. Strike. Here. The feeling was intense, and Nymoria found herself wondering where the image and words in her mind had come from, even as she moved to intercept the area that had been directed to her. Even through the confusion, and the misunderstanding, she felt herself dance across the floor as she always did, preparing to intercept the Lich in an attempt to knock him off – if for no reason beyond it being entertaining. Wait. Entertaining? Why would it be…? There was no time for further consideration as she collided with the undead thing, bringing her blade forward in a collection of stabs and slashes, pushing against the upper area of the creature in the hopes that it would fumble backwards and knock itself off the saucer. - Combat Nymoria | Lv. 33 | P. 2 | HP [615/680] | EN [62/104] | ACC [5] | DMG [29] | EVA [4] | BH [+37] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+1 BD] | LD [+1] | +4 EN; +37 HP; +4 DMG | -16 EN Freyd | HP: 1300/1300 | EN: 147/162 | DMG: 24 | MIT:152 | ACC: (8 incl. Freyd 0 Posted February 23 #22 Share Posted February 23 (edited) Permitting himself a satisfied smirk at the potential breakthrough, Freyd watched with muted glee at Nymoria's strike found its intended mark and upended the strange skiff upon which the withered lich perched. Damage and impact combined to tip and list the platform, more than enough to toss its rickety passenger off side and dump him unceremoniously to the sands below. 'Mitch' hit hard, and face first, leaving a lovely macabre impression of himself upon the Stygian shore, expletive curses barking out in code anathema to the game's translation matrix. Fitting. Continuing the strange dance that had somehow garnered success in its original trial, Freyd flowed like a cobra with sword as substitute for a serpentine hood. Each pass of the katana's steel sprayed more sand upon their enemy, who stuttered and protested "Now, see here! Do you know who I am?! Hey! Quit it! That's ebonweave silk you Philistine! How dare you!" True to his word, Freyd never laid a hand or sword upon their foe, dealing no damage, save perhaps to its patience and pride. As Mitch retreated, looking like some deeply frazzled cat further vexed by the advance of some persistently pernicious vacuum cleaner, the Whisper's motions further infringed upon its ultimate aloofness. Hissing and swatting feebly in his direction as he encroached, the lich gave ground and hobbled away rather pathetically. No wonder it always relied on the skiff. Mitch needed his walker. Mob coming your way. Nymoria 0 Posted February 23 Author #23 Share Posted February 23 (edited) Nymoria had struck the Lich thoroughly, tearing into it and sending it flying from the skiff that it had been using for mobility. A necessity for the thing that became clear moments later, but not before it found itself under the hailing assault of Freyd’s humours battering; a call to attention that made the Lich glare daggers at the shadow homed man, and yet unable to do anything but sling insults back towards her compatriot. Against her better willpower, Nymoria found herself giggling at the scene playing before her; a sand covered, pride wounded Lich hobbling back to its skiff in a manner that reminded her of someone’s Oji-san trying to find a single measure of respect among a gang of young, ruthless children. He seems upset. Do you think he hates sand? It does get everywhere… She took the few moments respite to sign towards Freyd, dropping her regular combat, quick movement signs for her full level of speech. She was still grinning in excitement and amusement even as she regained full length of her sabre, preparing for the arrival of the new mobs that would be rising to assist the Lich. Bubbles had already begun to appear upon the surface of the nearby waterways, forms of their approach reaching towards the surface with an eerie spectacle that was somehow lost after the bashing that the Lich had received under Freyd’s amusing battering. Focus, we’re not done here yet…although, with Freyd here, I don’t think I need to worry. Somehow the man made her feel calmer, more in control. Even if she’d been worried about communicating with him, with the ability for him to understand her, things had been going…well. Maybe he’s right…No, no he’s…but look at all of this… The smile faded from her face, replaced by a frown, as she considered everything he’d said, and how well they’d been working together. She couldn’t argue with the basic mathematics that were presented before her – when two sides were given, a third was always the result. Without an answer for the time being, she instead turned towards the fight. The Lich had regained his position atop the skiff – although it had taken some tumbling, and she could’ve sworn she’d heard some cursing as he’d accidentally slid back into the water – and had begun directing the rising Stygian’s towards herself and Freyd. Although he seems more determined with the latter…I guess Freyd really upset him… Grinning to herself again, Nymoria stepped forward with sabre held ready, preparing to bring it around and fell at least the two Stygians. - Combat Nymoria | Lv. 33 | P. 2 | HP [652/680] | EN [49/104] | ACC [5] | DMG [25] | EVA [4] | BH [+37] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+1 BD] | LD [+1] | +4 EN; +37 HP | -17 EN Freyd | HP: 1300/1300 | EN: 147/162 | DMG: 24 | MIT:152 | ACC: (8 incl. Freyd 0 Posted Friday at 11:55 PM #24 Share Posted Friday at 11:55 PM (edited) Certain that Nymoria had gleaned the fight's pattern, Freyd sidestepped the first of a pair of newly risen skeletal warrior risen from dark Stygian waters to accost them. She cut one down an instant later, the mob's hollow eyes failing to even register her presence. It was too taken by the rantings of the decrepit figure ambling awkwardly onto a freshly righted disk, desperate to make its escape. "Inconceivable! Have you no respect for the will of the dead?! If I still had my Io's cane, I'd beat you senseless with it! Never mess with a Stygilian, when death is on the line!" Glowing rings of haunting will'o'wisps marking the platform's perimeter flared as it gradually lifted him upward and at risk of being beyond their reach. Your three o'lock. Be ready. Deflecting the other warrior's blade with a black vambrace, Freyd's blade followed the blunter blow to cleanly separate the bone man's head from everything below. Mere seconds were all he'd have, hoping it would be enough, before the skull joined the rest of its disintegrating form. Bounding the bobbing noggin off a raised thigh like some sort of macabre hackey sack bought him just enough reprieve from Cardinal's ferryman toll. The head rose, airborne just long enough for Freyd to whirl and slap it hard with his backhand. All the lich saw was the gaping maw of its own stunned minion's demise as the skull soared upward and straight into its face. "GAH! Get off me, cretin!" Four stubby arms flailed, to no avail, as the undead lord toppled backward, losing its precarious and elderly balance. A great puff of sand marked its unceremonious impact, unnatural growls of growing frustration bellowing from long dysfunctional lungs. "Awwww. Back so soon? Did you Mitch me that much?" Losing all pretense of calm or civility in the face of such uncouth pun-ishment, the lich lost it and lunged at the Whisper with nothing more than animalistic rage. Checkmate. Feeble claws met dark adamant with little more than a 'tink', utterly failing to penetrate the samurai's armor. Freyd countered by pitching his sword into the nearby beach and grabbing his assailant's limbs, snaring them all with his hands and a helping web of shadowy bindings to hold them fast. Slamming his forehead hard into the gaunt figure's face produced a sickening crunch and meekly gasping yelp as the mob suddenly realized how royally and utterly screwed it was. Nymoria 0 Posted yesterday at 05:26 PM Author #25 Share Posted yesterday at 05:26 PM (edited) Nymoria side stepped the thrown sword, glancing up as she saw the entanglement that was Freyd and the Lich. The two tumbled together in an embrace that was anything but friendly, caring, or loving. She felt her feet move beneath her, the blade in her hand coming up as she felt the opportunity present itself. She didn’t hear anything, not truly, and yet Nymoria knew that now was the moment to strike, to close the gap between herself and the flailing forms. Just need to…not hit…Freyd… She’d closed the gap quickly, but a combination of flailing arms, legs, and something that appeared shadowy in nature caused her to hold her position slightly back from the duo of combatants. Side stepping, she moved around the pair, looking for an opening. Frustration rose as she found herself without any real opportunities, and only a few breaths after arriving, she found herself deciding to simply take a risk. Oh man I hope I don’t hit him… Closing her eyes, Nymoria stabbed forward with the sabre, hoping that she was doing the right thing. She wasn’t sure what she hit, but as she felt the blade impact something, she knew that she had at least done something. Freyd 0 Posted 17 hours ago #26 Share Posted 17 hours ago Quick to recover his blade, Freyd's gaze scoured the black sands and sinfully still waters in case the lich had other plans, or they'd accidentally spawned some other horror in their wanderings. No dice. Good. A breath held was finally expelled and a smile wistfully donned as he turned to regard his companion. "Well done." No excitable praise. No hearty huzzah. Ebullient outbursts were hardly the man's style. But praise was praise, and from a stoic pragmatist, hard earned. "You defeated your enemy, and fought in tune with an ally. Not flawless, perhaps, but battle never is." A smirk marked the occasion, as if it somehow sufficiently hailed the grandeur of her accomplishment. Summoning a bit of ebonweave to hand, Freyd wiped the blade clean of sand, as if it might somehow be marred or corroded by contact with the Stygian shore. Wulfrin and Ren had both been nagging at him about the importance of maintenance. Whether the action was dutiful or grounded in appeasement was unclear, and the weapon returned to its hearth. "No hindrance could have put this demon down as you did, Nymoria. And though we surely need practice working as a team, we made invaluable inroads today. Treasure that. I know I will." The predatory slant of his eyes eased as he spoke, loosening his perpetual hunter's gaze, if only for a moment. "Now, I believe I have a walk to finish, and other answers to seek." A short bow, and clumsily texted thanks made his excuses as the Whisper prepared to leave. Today's lesson, for them both, was over.
