Kindling 0 Posted February 9 #1 Share Posted February 9 Nearby the starting City of Beginners are a list of endless ruins. Most having had their loot picked clean by the thousands of players who followed the settlement's namesake, starting their adventures here, and forging forward. One such ruin, was the Amphitheatre. A small, dilapidated circle of dirt and stone that definitely did not live up to the grandeur that it's name might imply. The mud down in the pit was rough and overgrown from years of abandonment, the audience seats were dirt covered stone where some of the wildlife used as temporary beds here and there, the backrests of which were cracked and broken in parts. Certainly not the most comfortable for the few NPCs and Players who'd decide to show up for this bout of entertainment. Though none of that dragged down on a man with flaming red hair, and the widest grin on his thin cheeks. Unable to contain the way his body practically vibrated, electrified by the atmosphere built in his head. Soon, He thought to himself about the massive, chanting crowds. Every building needs its bricks. That was what he used to turn his attention to the fight at hand. These two deserved as much of his enthusiasm for this match, as any did. "Audience! Combatants! Open your eyes and gaze upon those walking into the arena now!" As Kindling spoke, standing in the dirt oval down in the center of the whole ruin, the place of combat so that his voice could reach evenly across it all. "In this corner; a previous-Frontliner, a self described Dragon. A man who reaches to protect others, and wishes of Heroism. Boasting a build that I understand to be fairly even across the board It'sssss Vigilon!" A dramatic stretch of Kindling's hand toward his left side, gesturing for the Vigilon in question to make his way into the opening if he hadn't already. Hoping that was a fine way to introduce his first combatant. "Aannndd in the other corner; A healer-extraordinaire, known for his own recent efforts on the Frontlines, particularly distinguishable from his green hair and 'Pride Of The Guardian' armor. Opting for a much more supportive build - that I am very interested in seeing how it works out for this competition! - It'ssssss Hirru!" Following just as he had done with his left hand, now with his right. A motion intent on getting Hirru to take to the modest stage both combatants would share. "There are no special rules or curveballs in this fight. Remember to not use any unapproved consumables, and to keep it sportsmanlike." "Watch the low blows, and keep your heads held up. Your victory may depend on it," A sentence followed by a teasing wink as the man backed up, eventually reaching the far wall. "Fighters, say what you need to, and take one last look at your equipment. Get ready to go on my mark! Get Set..." Then came that promised moment of silence, his arm raised high, giving each a moment to trade words to themselves or anyone else watching. Readying himself to be the first spectator to this combat. To hear that satisfying singing of steel meeting steel, and gritted teeth. Hopefully those pain sensors were turned down. Important Information Quote Week 1 has no thematic or special rulings. Hirru 0 Posted February 10 #2 Share Posted February 10 (edited) The area wasn't really the best place he would call a battling ring, but what did he know. He had earned an invitation to something that he thought would be fun, or at least test out some things that he had been wanting to work out. The whole thing seemed to be a change from the last tournament that he went to, but that was more a friendly bout after the strange happenings of the 26th floor. This was something slightly different. There were heavy restrictions compared to Baldur's. As soon as the dual began, the stats of the players would be equalized. It would be awful to face someone with higher capabilities, just because they were higher leveled or better geared. Hirru thought that this would be a chance to see how he could work some damage into his own capabilities. Figure out the bigger flaws in his build, and fix them. Though, he could also say that this was all just an excuse to wield a sword once more. Looking upon the old Shelob's Fang attached to his belt, he felt nostalgic to an time where all he did was venture through dungeons day in and day out. Most were on floors that were barely a problem for him, but that didn't mean that he could reap the rewards. The announcement for his battle would take place and the hunter could only give a small smile. He hadn't worn that armor in a while either. Maybe he would too, if not for the Mastery he held. No, he walked in not as the Jade Hunter, but as the healer he intended to be. Taking that step into the rough stone and dirt ring, he felt his anxious for a bit. It had been so long.. Looking over to his opponent, he had only ever really seen them once before. Back when the 26th floor raid had finished, they had fallen from the sky before the air raid event happened. He would smile as the breeze billowed his jade green hair with the very nature itself, before calling out to Vig; "I'm not healing you this time. I do hope you came prepared." He would say before putting the helm under his other arm onto his head. Sword and shield would then come out together, for once. Vigilon 0 Posted February 10 #3 Share Posted February 10 (edited) A ruin usually wouldn't be considered a good spot for a dueling tournament. Usually such happenings on Floor One would normally be seen in Tolbana. What went different in the planning? Someone else rent out the Tolbana Arena or something? ...Well, not that Tolbana had an official arena, per se. Well, he'd come here to test his mettle as a fighter, and the first step could easily win or lose the whole thing, so he'd better do this right. He looked down to make sure his equipment was in shape, then looked to his currently sheathed personal weapon, Kyrkuran. It would be seeing a lot of action today. Hopefully it wouldn't get a taste for Player HP. After all, Vigilon was starting to notice signs that the weapon may or may not have some form of intelligence...not that it could speak, it was definitely silent as the grave. The Announcements for Vigilon's coming fight had arrived, so Vigilon took a deep breath and readied himself to step into the ring. Were there rumors going on about Vigilon? He definitely wasn't expecting the description given. The announcer was half-right, at least. Vigilon never acted like he was a Dragon or anything, but he definitely sought to help others and get into some heroic acts if they were possible. Well, it was now or never, time to enter. He drew his blade and walked into the ring, both the crowd and his opponent were waiting. Vigilon's first opponent...Hirru. The guy saved his unfortunate ass when he misjudged a jump over in a catastrophe in Floor Twenty Six. Luckily, there wasn't anything to fall down from or need to climb up in this arena. Hirru remarked that he wouldn't be healing Vigilon this time, and hoped that he came prepared. Vigilon smirked. "Completely understand. This is Competitive PvP, not making any preparations may as well be suicide in some cases." He began. He took slow steps around the arena for about one and a third of a meter, they may as well have been carefully placed. "After all, you've gotta be able to anticipate what your opponent might do...and sometimes you've just gotta- THINK FAST!" Vigilon dashed rapidly as he finished his words, his weapon in hand, unleashing his Sword Art upon his opponent in a split second, his Charge and Kyrkuran's burst of Fallen Energy causing the attack to have a great impact. Vigilon then met eyes with his now Stunned opponent. "So, how's that for a First Impression?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. Hirru 0 Posted February 11 #4 Share Posted February 11 (edited) As it should have been. There wasn't much to a fight between an actual fighter compared to someone without much capabilities to do so. He had thrown all of that away to be someone that stands behind the fighters, not with them. He figured that there wouldn't be any way to work through it when push came to shove. Especially when the black flames of Fallen come into play. Hirru should have figured that into his planning, but immunities to the special attack uniques had not come to the player's usage. There were bosses seen with it though, so it could be a matter of time until something like that would come about. Though, the other part that kept non-fighters out was stuns. Vig took such good measures to block any attempt at attempting anything against him, and the hunter was impressed. He had heard that stuns and paralysis were some of the more worrying enhancements that someone could face in PVP, let alone against mobs. Knocking his sword and shield away in two easy strikes, 'the dragon' had him where he wanted him. The hunter could only smile. "Good job, that's how you're supposed to do it." Vigilon 0 Posted February 13 #5 Share Posted February 13 (edited) Vigilon had already dealt enough damage for this tank to be near the yellow. Was he just Lucky, or was he actually strong enough to put a dent in this guy? Maybe it was Kyrkuran, that weapon made one heck of a difference. Regardless, the green haired opponent was now disarmed and temporarily helpless. For whatever reason, the guy just smiled and congratulated Vigilon for taking the correct course of action. Well, in that case he better make use of this window of opportunity while he still had it. "I mean, if that's what you really want, then." He said with a shrug and a grin, just before flames cloaked his sword. He would then go in for another attack before his opponent could get back on his feet...and the helpless state Hirru was in left him wide open, including any weak spots above the belt. With his blade burning at the heat of a dragon's flame, Vigilon made three rapid strikes against his opponent, and to add further injury, Kyrkuran scorched Hirru, leaving him to deal with a fell, hellish blaze on his avatar. Vigilon was absolutely winning so far, but he nearly felt sorry for his opponent that he was effectively drilling and giving the sandbag treatment. Hirru 0 Posted February 13 #6 Share Posted February 13 (edited) "Ha ha! That's how you do it!" Hirru knew that he wouldn't make it at all in this tournament after what he noticed here. That didn't mean that he wasn't going to use this for his own opportunities. There was quite a bit of time since the 23rd floor raid and since then, Hirru had not been keeping track of those that were front line worthy, nor was he keeping track of anyone that was in the front lines anymore. He used to have most of their statistics figured out, as most didn't really stray too far from a specific build, and one could see what effects each player put on to a mob or boss. This would be especially so when, even as a damage user, Hirru wasn't the greatest. He would more than likely sitting to the side while watching for changes and calling them out. Maybe, he really was more suited to the healer / leader type than he had once thought. "First void creeping fallen, and now.." Hirru looked to the armored gauntlet that held his shield up. He was no longer stunned, but still stood where he was. The attack before was much more pronounced than this one, even though it struck a key area on his person. It felt hot, as if he were truly burning up in his armor while a dark green miasma seemed to be seeping from a crack in his shield. "..blazing burn and sickly blight. Quite a combination, must have taken some time to build that one up." He would say before getting down on one knee and planting his shield closer to the ground. A quick flash of the fingers would find a little light blue crystal in the shape of some spiraled creature. It did not matter what it was, but it would be crushed behind his shield and his awareness and mitigation would soar. "You have the capabilities to end this in one more round about. Let's see if I can last through it." Vigilon 0 Posted February 13 #7 Share Posted February 13 (edited) Just a little more... Hirru seemed to be all for getting beaten down, and Vigilon didn't really understand why. Hirru seemed to make a comment on Vigilon's weapon, whatever it was about. "Oh, this?" He asked, gesturing to his sword. "Uh, yeah, I daresay Kyrkuran here packs quite a punch, it's a bit of an odd and long story how I got it, and equally strange was how I was told it rejected everyone else who tried to pick it up and buy it or something. It's been a big help to me, though." Vigilon explained, taking a quick moment to glace to his weapon. An eye opened on the hilt, within sight of both combatants(and the host, if he was paying attention to this fight). "Someday...someday I'll get used to it sometimes staring at me like that..." He thought. Hirru positioned himself to increase his defenses. It seemed he was readying himself to block an attack. He then invited Vigilon to try and finish it here, if he could. "Asking me to go all out, are you?" He remarked. "Alright, fair enough. Suit yourself..." Vigilon took position. "FYI, if anything goes overboard, know that you're the one who asked for it." Vigilon readied his weapon, and took a deep breath as his weapon began to glow both a deep violet and a burning red, laced with traces of dark energy. "Kyrkuran, zyn gre zhal xe shiul vyeil natho!" He spoke. Upon this, he felt a deep shadow within both himself and his weapon. The sword practically roared to life with a billowing dragonfire that cloaked the entire blade, and Vigilon began his advance. "HyyyaaaaaaaaaAAAAAARGHHH!!!" Vigilon kept up his quickened pace, and at nearly the last moment he swiftly leaped over his opponent, performing a 180 turn in midair, and starting his attack with a horizontal slash from behind. He quickly followed up with a flurry of attacks from multiple angles, nearly moving like a blur, and from his sword would erupt a burst of flame and dark energy upon the last strike's impact. With the attack barrage completed, Vigilon scratched the back of his neck with his free hand. "Heh...maybe next time you could try following your opponent's moves? Not like I know how your skill works or anything, but while your front was guarded, your back was wide open." He pointed out with a grin. Hirru 0 Posted February 14 #8 Share Posted February 14 (edited) "You've got a point. I should put more thought into this, than just sitting pretty and trying to take damage that I shouldn't." He would state as he wheeled around. The shield would be used to spring around before it was gone from his arm in an instant, replaced by a green jeweled bracelet. It had been some time since the hunter had last put that bracelet on and it would not be the last. He would have to reminisce about better times in a bit, but there was one thing he wanted to try out. With the momentum, he would try to perform the rarely used martial arts technical move; sweep the leg. The added focused accuracy that the tiny little dragons eye would give him was all he needed as his little dance would be enough to surprise the young man. Kicking out his legs enough for the hunter to land the rest of the sword art. His blade glowing orange, the sword would cut around the side as he fell before the hunter's kicking leg would reel back around to slam the man into the ground. All in all a fun little art, but also one of the weakest and worthless arts out there. It cost too much energy to use it to its fullest extent and didn't have any of the damage capabilities to make it worth getting either. A player that just got Martial Arts would be surprised to even remember that this art existed, but it was there. "Be aware that there will always be surprises, even if they don't seem to be all that bad." He would chuckle to himself. "Not that that probably even tickled you at all, I bet! Ha ha!" Vigilon 0 Posted February 15 #9 Share Posted February 15 Hirru acknowledged Vigilon's point. When facing common mobs, you can more easily expect them to go for the front, but players and more intelligent NPC enemies may choose to go for the back that's wide open, as Vigilon had just done. Problem was, the sandbag treatment that this battle had been so far resulted in Vigilon unwittingly letting his guard down. When his opponent made a quick change, Vigilon could only assume there was a fancy trick in play. ...Then came the Low Sweep...followed by slamming Vigilon into the ground. It all happened faster than anticipated. Hirru then made his own point to Vigilon. Yeah, that checks out. "Nice argument, acknowledged, too." He said out loud. "Unfortunately, unless the host calls the fight here, there'll be hell to pay when I can get back up again." He thought to himself, as thought he was speaking to Hirru, which he wasn't, so it would remain unheard. -Vigilon is stunned, stun fades Vigilon | HP: 181/200 | EN: 11/38 | DMG: 10 | MIT: 30 | ACC: 1 | EVA: 2 | FLN: 4 | BLI: 8/-5 | BRN: 14 | LD:4 | {Stun Immune 0/3} Hirru | HP: 11/200 | EN: 22/38 | DMG: 1 | MIT: 52 | ACC: 3 | EVA: 1 | BH: 6 | HLY BLS: 8 | MENDING: 2 | LD: 3 | Shell 2/3 | {Stun Immune 3/3} {Burn: 14 1/2} {Blight: 8 1/2}
Hirru 0 Posted February 15 #10 Share Posted February 15 "I too will acknowledge that I am at a loss." Hirru would look to his own health as the burn and blight would finish out and burn his health down to the smallest of blips that he had ever seen. Though, had he seen smaller? He could of sworn.. He did not need to look to memories that would follow him like a shadow, but just like a shadow, dim in the presence of light. Never to be seen without the necessary harm to oneself, so what would matter to seek it out today. "I doubt that I have the capabilities to stop you now. So, I concede." He said as he sheathed his blade and shield and raised his hands in a display of surrender. This was a friendly match, or so he hoped. Though, what was the measure of 'friendly'? Did he go too far to have it as educational? Informational? He.. wasn't actually sure. Though, in that he did want to have this a something posing as 'friendly'. Maybe, he shouldn't let Mack and Freyd's definitions of fun and friendly meld together for that. "Good job out there!" He would say before hold a hand out to Vig to help him up. Kindling 0 Posted February 15 Author #11 Share Posted February 15 (edited) Their weapons drawn, their words spoken. A grin tugged at the corners of his mouth, watching as Hirru encouraged his opponent. That was a tower of sportsmanship right there, that was a good contestant for a competitive environment. Exactly what he was hoping to see when this all started as an idea in his head. Sword and shield against an seemingly accursed blade. Not an unheard of, first of it's kind. Still, an interesting set piece for a player to have. Vigilon's mad dash forward started the fight in earnest, which only seemed to draw the kind words from his opponent. A support both physically and emotionally! It was something that Kindling had only thought, and wished he had said it out loud the moment it came out of his mouth. Even stunned, it appeared that the man had nothing but nice words to say, and hype to give. Kindling's grin formed into a more full smile, having as much fun as he had hoped that all of his combatants were having. As he had imagined them having. "Another sickening infliction of debuffs; Blight being particularly sinister!" This time, Kindling had remembered his job as announcer and fight host when the thought popped into his mind. "Hirru takes the hit, and heals through; but will it be enough?" The answer, was, unfortunately, no. No matter how much this fight host wished it so, wanting to see if Hirru would have any retaliation in the long term, how the Healer-Tank build would work. In this situation specifically, it seemed to work against him. Both contestants calling the fight before Kindling or their respective health bars even had a chance to. His raised arms lowered slightly, disappointed not in their performance, but that it was all over so quickly. Was that it? Had he failed them, somehow? Kindling's hand rose again, his palm flat toward Hirru. Giving him a small burst of healing to ensure status effects didn't interact strangely with the tierlocking system, and ensure his HP didn't reach it's bottom threshhold. "There you have it folks. The Clash of steel, and grunts, groans, and verbalizations of combat. And it's over in a flash! Vigilon wins!" A gesture to the man he indicated, letting all those in attendance see plainly. "A round of applause for our victor, and his valiant opponent. Both of who we will see next week, on Floor 11 for next week's thematic!" Kindling himself turned and clapped for the two, giving a slight bow. Then raising his hands for both to enjoy their moment of having finished the combat, and the attention of whatever small audience had gathered. They had fought well, and there was hope that there was still passion in each to continue to fight just as well, in the coming weeks. Result: Vigilon Victory This fight has now concluded, and this thread will be turned in for double rewards. Remember that this is not the end of Clash of Blades, there are still 14 more weeks worth of combats to go in the Group Stage. Well done to both participants. If have any feedback, please reach out to @Kindling or @Minako (Vesuvyan and Lemonarsonist on discord, respectively) for any thoughts, or questions. You may give any parting thoughts or actions before I turn this thread in for approval. If you are simply done, let me know. We will see you next week! Vigilon 0 Posted February 16 #12 Share Posted February 16 The battle was over sooner than expected. Hirru had conceded. Seeing that the green haired tank's HP was but a sliver of red, it made perfect sense. The opponent offered a hand to help Vigilon back up, which he accepted. Hirru may have gotten the last hit, but it seems that the effects of being damaged by Kyrkuran had pushed the tank to his limits. Victory had gone to Vigilon this time. "Same to you. While you still took the damage, you took it like a champ and stood your ground. Not everyone's willing to do such a thing." He complimented. He sheathed his own weapon, then noticed someone in the audience as the Host declared Vigilon the winner. Vigilon looked back to Hirru. "You know...if you happen to be the type of person to consider scenarios for when facing certain opponents, there's a goldmine's wealth of opportunity right before us, seeing that we were the first match of the day and all." He remarked. "I suppose I'll be seeing you next week, maybe not as an opponent on the battlefield, maybe?" He added with a grin.
