Nymoria 0 Posted February 10 #1 Share Posted February 10 Arabian Nights: The First of Many Quests…quests…they’re quickly dwindling… Nymoria scrolled through the collection of quests that appeared within the menu before her. She’d crossed off so many already – a true testament to both the amount of time she’d spent in Aincrad, as well as the effort she’d made at progressing towards the final goal of escaping – that she found herself with limited options. A number she had already discarded as being well beyond what she was capable of completing in the current moment; difficult, but not impossible was what she had searched for, and as her eyes roamed over what was left, she saw nothing but an inconvenience to be had. Arabian Nights…The Night King’s Trilogy…the options are there, but none are overly appealing. I may have to leave this up to random chance this time. She sighed as she closed the menu and searched for the coloured gems she kept just for these instances. She marked each in her memory as associated with the quests that she had considered doable given her current capabilities and resources, before closing her eyes. Carefully, she grasped the gems and shook them lightly between both her palms, ensuring none escaped her grasp. Once she was confident that she couldn’t tell them apart, she placed them into a cup and pulled out a single one without looking. Arabian Nights. Alright. She wasn’t enthused by the decision, but she also wasn’t overly upset. She knew the quest was long – nowhere near as long as the Dragon Hunter quest that she had partaken in not too long ago, certainly – but its rewards and payoffs were well worth the time and effort, she had heard. I guess the only thing I can do is prepare, for now. She pushed herself from the cushion she’d been resting on, moving throughout the house as she collected the various items that she had recently purchased and procured for instances just like this one. Better to have an not need, than need and not have. As the saying goes. She doubted she’d need most of the crystals and other items that she’d picked up, at least not for the beginning of the quest – but it never hurt to have them along. The fifth floor was as dry and arid as ever. While the heat was unwelcoming and uncomfortable, it was far more bearable than the melting aura that seemed to hover over the ninth floor – where she’d spent a lot of time as of late. Time to find this Ali… She moved through the bazaar, looking for the small tavern that would be the starting point of the quest. She slipped through the crowd, suddenly wanting to be anywhere but the busy area, but knowing that there was no escape now. This had better be worth it… Statblock Spoiler Notes [Theme] Nymoria | Lv. 33 | P. 7 | HP [700/700] | EN [108/108] | ACC [5] | DMG [22] | EVA [4] | BH [+37] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+1 BD] | LD [+1] Tier 4 | Tier 4 Equipment Repressed [Rapier | Tier 3] Enhancement: Bleed [2 Slots] Enhancement: Keen [1 Slot] Ring of Evasion [Jewelry | Tier 1] Enhancement: Evasion [3 Slots] Hearing Aid [Trinket | Tier 1] Enhancement: Accuracy [3 Slots] Battle-Ready Inventory Uncommon Health Potion {5} [Potion | Tier 1 | Heals 5% Maximum HP] Honey Cookie {5} [Snack | Tier 1 | Vitality II] bento {1} [Meal | Tierless | Oveerhealth III] Honey Cookie {5} [Snack | Tier 1 | Vitality II] Chocolate Truffles {4} [Dessert | Tier 3 | Vitality II] Dear My Friend {3} [Support Song | Tier 4 | HP Recovery III | Instant] Teleport Crystal {1} Crystal of Support | [3/3 charges] | Heals the user and each party member for (50 * Target's Tier) HP. Acanthus 0 Posted February 11 #2 Share Posted February 11 Acanthus exited the Fortaleza bazaar. The place teemed with life: proud merchants hawking their wares, players milling through the shops, enjoying the arid, sunny skies. Wulfrin had just taken a new flock of players out into the desert, soon to return much wiser, and entirely unharmed. The whole process exhausted her. The merchants hawked the same wares with the same lines every day. Players shopping here were fools, spending their scraps of col on mediocre items. The real gear comes from high floors and random monsters, but these people didn’t know that. They’d probably never been above floor ten. Why Acanthus was down here she couldn’t say. She left with a bundle of quills much needed for her composition exercises. But the same quills could be bought on floor three, nine, and twenty-one. So why come back to this dull place? Maybe it’s the sun, she thought, staring vaguely into the sky. A little vitamin D is a good way to cheer up. What vitamin D? It’s all shaders and brightness settings. She choked on a laugh. A soft, familiar presence whisked by her in the crowd. Turning, she caught the back of Nymoria’s head disappearing into the throng. She’s not here to buy mediocre items, Acanthus thought idly. Maybe she’d accept a little company doing… whatever she’s doing. Acanthus followed the small wake left by Nymoria, catching up at her own pace. She greeted the girl with a simple, austere smile. “I’ve been running into you a lot lately. Ryo 0 Posted February 11 #3 Share Posted February 11 The fifth floor, again. Why? It was hot, and arid, terrible on his hair and skin. And the sand, gods the sands. It was course, and rough, and irritating. Ryo turned his boot sideways, pouring a healthy amount of sand from it back onto the floor. And it got everywhere. Why did his girlfriend choose this floor? It had to be because it kept people away from bothering her, but she was over that now. Right? He let out a sigh, as he slipped his boot back on. Maybe he should invite her to his home, maybe offer to help relocate her shop so he didn't have to visit this hell hole of a floor. At least it was better than the bitter winds of the prior floor. He thought about if he'd go back to that floor, see if the old place is packed up and gone. He hadn't seen it since Lowenthal and Jomei raided the building in search of their friends. He looked up into the sky, shielding his eyes from the sun. Just a bit after noon, meaning it was getting close to morning in Taft. He rubbed the back of his neck and hopped off the wagon that he was borrowing. Giving thanks to the NPC Ryo stepped into the crowd. He opened his menu and looked at his quest sheet. The sooner he got done with the quests on this floor, the less often he would have to visit it. All he had to do was find Ali. But the quest log didn't help, and didn't mention anything about where this Ali might be. Why were none of the quests helpful? Did they forget to add details about where to start a quest, or did they not do it on purpose to add 'immersion'. Either way, it was bad and the designers should feel bad. But then again, maybe the people who coded a way for him to be trapped in this world didn't really have morals and so want to watch people suffer. Sick bastards. Ryo adjusted his hair, the heat making it almost unbearably warm. First order of business was, getting out of this sudden crowd. Mid day at the market was always a rush as peddlers and merchants alike all tried to sell him their wares. He had no interest in them, nor the col. He shoved his way past a particular annoying NPC trying to barter a rug to him when he felt something slap into his chest. Ryo took a step back, almost falling over the merchant he just got past. "Shit, I'm sorry are you okay?" He asked the person he ran into. The small green gem over their head indicated that they were a player, to which Ryo felt even more sorry about. "Sorry, can't see more than a few feet with all these people." He said, offering to help the person to their feet if they had fallen. He didn't recognize the person he ran into, but the light brown pinkish hair reminded him of someone. A closer inspection did indeed reveal, it was not her. "Sorry again. I'm Ryo." He said introducing himself. "You want I can buy you a drink to make up for it? It'll beat this heat for sure." <Quest Info> Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 PARTY STATS Spoiler Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 THREAD INFO Spoiler equipped »Gin Kin (+9 DMG) »Fierce Deities Coat (+36 MIT, +3EN Recovery) »Accuracy Charm (+3 Accuracy) battle-ready inventory » » » » » skills »Katana R5 (+7 DMG) »Heavy Armor R5 (+40 MIT, -5 Stealth) »Battle Healing R3 (18 healing per turn) »Searching R2 (+2 LD, +2 Stealth Detection) » extra skills »Survival (Healing effects 10% more, immune to environmental effects) »Leadership R1 (Grants access to Leadership Arts, takes 2 Extra Slots) »Leadership R1 » » addons »[Katana] Focus (Minor Crit on BD 8, reduce DoT threshold by 1) »[Katana] Stamina (-2 EN) »[Heavy Armor] Iron Skin (+15 MIT, +45 HP) mods »Impetus (+1 DMG) »Emergency Recovery (Heal 62 when brought below 156 | Once per thread | 10EN) »Night Vision (No penalties from low light/darkness) buffs » Dining Room: "Tasty" - Turn 2 identical food items (same quality, tier, & enhancements) into a Lesser Feast. Nymoria 0 Posted February 11 Author #4 Share Posted February 11 Nymoria had paused her divulging through the crowd as a familiar face came into sight. Acanthus’s greeting was, if nothing else, amusing and Nymoria found herself grinning in response to the commentary. She gave a nod towards the nearby tavern, before signing back in response to Acanthus’s question, trying to explain as quickly as she could what had brought her to the area – without seeming rude. Good to see you, Acanthus. I would say you have been following me, but… She let the joke hang in the air, uncertain if it would be picked up or not through the monotonous voice that was said to translate all of her signs to words within the individual’s mind. She waved a hand towards the tavern, as if pulling her attention back to the task at hand. I am heading into there to find Ali. Start of a quest. Arabian Nights. Have you completed it yet? It is quite…lengthy. She seemed to pause upon the last word, as if uncertain how best to describe it. She gave another glance towards the tavern, before deciding that she was in no real rush through the crowd. Ali would likely still be waiting once she had managed to get there, regardless of how long it took her. Turning back to Acanthus, she began to sign once more, stepping off towards the tavern with a calmer pace, before she had roughly run into something solid. Would you like to come with m- She stumbled backwards, colliding with the ground and shaking her head as she tried to figure out what she had run into so suddenly. Standing, or rather towering, above her was an unfamiliar man – another player, by the appearance of them – who had their hand held out in proffering assistance. Nymoria slowly accepted the hand, using it to pull herself to her feet before dusting herself off. “-can buy you a drink to make up for it? It'll beat this heat for sure." The words caught her off guard, and Nymoria found herself staring up quizzically at the individual, attempting to determine exactly what they were offering. She gave a quick shake of her head, a slow movement that might have appeared almost dazed in nature to the others, before raising her hands and signing clearly towards the individual. Thank you. You are not my type.
Acanthus 0 Posted February 12 #5 Share Posted February 12 (edited) "Nymoria, watch—" She'd noticed too late. Nymoria tumbled to the ground, slightly dazed from the impact. The man she had bumped into seemed unperturbed. Acanthus prepared to scold him, but before she could, he interjected with an apology. I'm being too hasty. He's already offering her a hand up. Wait, now he's offering her a drink? Are they flirting? Acanthus prepared to excuse herself when Nymoria responded. "Thank you. You are not my type." Acanthus exhaled. It seemed she had been blessed with not being relegated to third wheel. "Thank you for the offer," Acanthus responded. "I'm afraid we're on our way out of town though. We're…" Acanthus trailed off. She had almost invited him without thinking on Nymoria's quest. That was probably a faux pas. What was the etiquette about quest invitations anyways? Not to mention he was an unknown. She could probably fend him off if the worst came to pass, but she wouldn't know unless she could see his level. And that meant inviting him to the party. She turned to Nymoria. Acanthus had been hoping to surprise after a little more practice, but now seemed like a good time to try and converse without Ryo's knowledge. Her hands fumbled through a few rudimentary signs. "You—us—take him to battle?" Edited February 13 by Acanthus
Ryo 0 Posted February 13 #6 Share Posted February 13 Ryo watched as hands moved. It was, sign language. At least, he thought it was. The monotone voice in his head startled him, and caused him to look around a bit until he realized it was the game's translator. "Oh I see. The game auto translate any language. Interesting." He thought aloud, thinking back to when he was testing it with Teion. "Wait, not my type?" He said, it finally clicking for him. His face went red and he quickly waved his hands in front of him. "No no no, uh not like that kind of drink. I mean, it's a desert town so drinks just sound more appetizing?" He said, fumbling over his words. "Uh, no, what I mean is that I uh." He let out a sigh before recollecting himself. "What I'm trying to say is that I'm not trying to flirt with you. I'm just trying to be polite and make up for accidentally running into you." He said, hopefully clearing that up. It was then he noticed the other woman there. "Oh. Hello there. Sorry that I ran into your, friend?" He asked. This was going well. At least he cleaned out his boot of sand before promptly shoving it into his mouth. "Truth be told, I'm actually a little lost? I'm trying to start up this Arabian Nights quest, but I can't seem to find where." He said, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'll get out of your hair, and back to what I was doing. Sorry again for running into you." He said before giving a polite bow, and turning to leave and figure out where he was meant to start the quest. <Quest Info> Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 PARTY STATS Spoiler Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 THREAD INFO Spoiler equipped »Gin Kin (+9 DMG) »Fierce Deities Coat (+36 MIT, +3EN Recovery) »Accuracy Charm (+3 Accuracy) battle-ready inventory » » » » » skills »Katana R5 (+7 DMG) »Heavy Armor R5 (+40 MIT, -5 Stealth) »Battle Healing R3 (18 healing per turn) »Searching R2 (+2 LD, +2 Stealth Detection) » extra skills »Survival (Healing effects 10% more, immune to environmental effects) »Leadership R1 (Grants access to Leadership Arts, takes 2 Extra Slots) »Leadership R1 » » addons »[Katana] Focus (Minor Crit on BD 8, reduce DoT threshold by 1) »[Katana] Stamina (-2 EN) »[Heavy Armor] Iron Skin (+15 MIT, +45 HP) mods »Impetus (+1 DMG) »Emergency Recovery (Heal 62 when brought below 156 | Once per thread | 10EN) »Night Vision (No penalties from low light/darkness) buffs » Dining Room: "Tasty" - Turn 2 identical food items (same quality, tier, & enhancements) into a Lesser Feast. Nymoria 0 Posted February 13 Author #7 Share Posted February 13 Nymoria glanced between the two figures standing beside her, trying to follow a conversation that was slowly eroding away into more chaos than she could have anticipated. She found herself giggling in response to Ryo’s slowly deteriorating sentences and general appearance. She reached out a hand as he turned to leave, stopping her commentary only as a butchered collection of attempts came from Acanthus. Nymoria stared at the other woman, before bursting into silent laughter, reaching out and grasping onto Ryo’s clothing in an attempt not to fall over. After a few seconds, she managed to right herself, her hands moving quickly in response to Acanthus as she tried to clear the air following her small outburst. I am sorry. I am sorry. That was…funny. You asked if we should fight him. I don’t think that is necessary. Although I appreciate…the protection…of my honour. A few further giggles, before she turned to face Ryo in turn. Only once she had calmed herself fully did she sign towards the man in an attempt to keep him from running away from them. My apologies, I think there has been a misunderstanding. We are looking to complete the Arabian Nights quest as well, once we find the quest giver here. Would you like to search for the man with us? Nymoria glanced back towards Acanthus, sticking the tip of her tongue out and winking slightly before turning back to the taller man before her, and holding a pleasant smile in anticipation of his answer. Acanthus 0 Posted February 14 #8 Share Posted February 14 Her ears burned as Nymoria laughed. This is exactly why she wanted to wait a little longer before trying it out. She wasn’t a natural with the hand signs, and her attempts just made her look like a conspicuous idiot in front of a stranger and a friend. “Wait, did you say you were wanting to run Arabian Nights?” Acanthus returned her attention to the stranger. Nymoria finished the rest of her thought. “Would you like to search for the man with us?” Acanthus nodded in agreement. “Ali is the person we are looking for. The info broker’s guide says that he’s usually at a tavern here in Fortaleza, but it didn’t mention which one. There’s an open air tavern on the east side of town called Sandy Kiss, and one closer to the center that most players tend to frequent due to the size and proximity to the teleportation plaza: Searing Winds I think is the name? Truthfully, I’m not down here often. It’s a bit of a coincidence that we even ran into each other.” Acanthus struck up a conversation with Ryo as they began walking. “I don’t see many players doing this quest. Or many of the longer quest chains, for that matter. Any particular reason you have this one on your list?”
Ryo 0 Posted February 15 #9 Share Posted February 15 Ryo stood still as he was used as a handle to make sure the laughing woman didn't fall over. He looked up, not making eye contact with her, or her companion. Just looking for, something or someone to get him out of this situation he put himself in. When the laughing ended a few seconds later, though it felt like an eternity, Ryo adjusted his clothing and let the woman speak. Ryo rubbed the back of his neck, as he was invited to their group. "If it's no problem. I would love to actually." He said as he opened his menu and would either send them the request, or accept the invite himself. "He's gotta be in this area somewhere." Ryo said, looking over the crowd. "I know his name, but I didn't consult the info broker like I should." He said, absentmindedly rubbing the back of his neck again. "I should probably do that more often, maybe I'd end up loss a little less." He said, mostly to himself but aloud none the less. Ryo rubbed his chin in thought. "I think the Searing Winds is a decent enough bet to check first. With it being right out the gate, makes sense to slap a quest there." The samurai said, explaining his thought process. "I agree! It's nice to have things work out mysteriously like that." He said, letting out a laugh. Walking for a short while, doing his best to not slow the group down too much to deal with the crowd he answered the question posed to him. "It's on my list, because it's on my list. Wait, this is a chain?" He asked, not sure . "When the game started I spent a good time doing, some other things before getting into this whole 'adventuring' thing I guess. I haven't done a lot of quests, I think I've done like three?" He said, counting in his head. He did the waterfall, the job one, and the other desert one. And that was pretty much all the ones he could remember doing. "I'm just looking to get some quests done so I can get some better gear and make my way into the front lines. My stuff is, kind of outdate for that kind of work." He said, patting the sword on his hip. That sword had been with him for a long time. He couldn't think about selling it. Perhaps he'd have a display or something like that in his home. He'd need to ask Pennyworth. "What about you two? What brings you to always sunny floor five?" He asked. <Quest Info> Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 PARTY STATS Spoiler Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 Acanthus | HP: 840/840 | EN: 98/98 | DMG: 23 | MIT:95 | ACC:5 | AA | BRN-IM | FL.AURA: 8 | BH:46 | HB: 37 | VAMP-D: 46 | REC: 4 | LD:5 Nymoria | HP [700/700] | EN [108/108] | ACC [5] | DMG [22] | EVA [4] | BH [+37] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+1 BD] | LD [+1] THREAD INFO Spoiler equipped »Gin Kin (+9 DMG) »Fierce Deities Coat (+36 MIT, +3EN Recovery) »Accuracy Charm (+3 Accuracy) battle-ready inventory » » » » » skills »Katana R5 (+7 DMG) »Heavy Armor R5 (+40 MIT, -5 Stealth) »Battle Healing R3 (18 healing per turn) »Searching R2 (+2 LD, +2 Stealth Detection) » extra skills »Survival (Healing effects 10% more, immune to environmental effects) »Leadership R1 (Grants access to Leadership Arts, takes 2 Extra Slots) »Leadership R1 » » addons »[Katana] Focus (Minor Crit on BD 8, reduce DoT threshold by 1) »[Katana] Stamina (-2 EN) »[Heavy Armor] Iron Skin (+15 MIT, +45 HP) mods »Impetus (+1 DMG) »Emergency Recovery (Heal 62 when brought below 156 | Once per thread | 10EN) »Night Vision (No penalties from low light/darkness) buffs » Dining Room: "Tasty" - Turn 2 identical food items (same quality, tier, & enhancements) into a Lesser Feast. Nymoria 0 Posted Monday at 04:15 PM Author #10 Share Posted Monday at 04:15 PM Conversation between the two carried on between Acanthus and Ryo as Nymoria paused to stare at Acanthus, a sudden realisation crossing her mind as she saw the flare of embarrassment passing over the other’s features. Nymoria had been preoccupied by the fact that Acanthus had attempted sign language, and the oddity of her commentary and question. She hadn’t even taken notice of the fact that Acanthus had tried sign language. A fact that wasn’t entirely lost upon the silent player. She waited until there was a lull in the conversation, before signing towards Acanthus, her hands kept out of Ryo’s sight so that the other would not notice. I am sorry. I appreciate it. She turned back to the newcomer to their group, and quickly engaged in the conversation, signing the first thing that came to mind as she tried to remember exactly what they had been talking about. I am here because of the quest. It was on my list of things to do. I have been told that there is a map to the Cave of Wonders. It is supposedly a good dungeon to obtain and loot. Or so other players have said. She knew it wasn’t much of a response – impersonal, business like in many means. After a few seconds of pause, she decided to add to her original commentary, trying to liven up the atmosphere and hope that her earlier blunder had been overcome, or at least forgotten. You said you owed me a drink, yes? Perhaps you can get one here? She waved towards the entrance of the Searing Winds, the group having traversed through the area far quicker than Nymoria had expected – especially with her not entirely paying attention to their movements. She reached forwards and held back a curtain, waiting for the others to pass within before following. Her eyes were slow to adjust, and it took her a few moments before she noticed the individual sitting towards the rear of the room, a pipe in hand and an appearance towards him that almost screamed a quest for offer. Think that is him? She signed towards the other two, before nodding in his direction.
Acanthus 0 Posted Tuesday at 02:55 AM #11 Share Posted Tuesday at 02:55 AM “Looking for better gear, hm?” Acanthus glanced at his equipment. It didn’t seem bad, just… maybe outdated? “Well, Nymoria is right. I believe the Cave of Wonders operates as an effective way to gain plenty of money. Eden also offers plenty as well, Nymoria and I have done that quest already. There are also plenty of zones off the beaten path that offer col and items. I’ve found quite a few, and have a comfortable amount of money for new gear and equipment.” Out of the corner of her eye, Acanthus caught Nymoria signing to her. Her face reddened further. She tried waving her off silently. Laughing was a normal, healthy reaction. She could intellectualize that easily enough. Her attempt had resulted in a humorous mistranslation. The fact that she couldn’t *feel* that caused her more embarrassment than the initial problem. “It’s fine,” she mouthed, hoping Nymoria wouldn’t persist. Instead, she made her way inside the tavern, scouting for the quest-giver. Remembering Morningstar’s interesting trick, she switched her tracking skill on. The person in the far corner glowed in a faint gold light. He sported a fine beard, head covered in a turban to protect him from the harsh sun of the floor. Despite his mouth hidden by bristles, his face was marred by worry. Acanthus moved to sit next to the man, motioning for drinks for the table. She had grown tired of engaging quest NPCs in rigorous dialogue. “Trouble?” The man perked up and the trigger word, and began to spin a long yarn of him and his brother. He told the party of the mythical cave, and promised them access if they returned with Cassim. Ali then pulled out a map to point out exactly where they could find the bandits. Acanthus rolled her eyes. Our map would update with this information anyways. But at least we’re doing it here, and not outside in the sun. By the time Ali had finished his exposition, the drinks had arrived and been drained, and Acanthus had ordered another round. She paid the tab without thinking, then turned to Ryo as an afterthought. “I apologize. You can buy Nymoria something later. Let’s go ahead and move to the fortress.”
Ryo 0 Posted Wednesday at 05:19 AM #12 Share Posted Wednesday at 05:19 AM Ryo's eyes sparkled upon the mention of a 'Cave of Wonders'. "Cave of Wonders." Ryo said thinking of what may be in said cave. Stacks of col, a mountain of rare items, a horde of demonic weaponry? Ryo shook his head free of the fantasy. "I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't hurting for money." He admitted. "But I know that what I need for the front lines, can't simply be bought. Or at the least cheaply. I need a weapon that's blessed with Holy, and possible that one enhancement that ignores somethings mitigation. Can't remember the name." He said tapping his chin. Upon entering the tavern it was clear to see that it was lively. Not as lively as it was outside in the bustling market streets, but still pretty packed with only a few tables and booths to be empty. It always impressed him that so many NPC's could be in one spot. Ryo stepped inside, his eyes suddenly shifting to the darkness. Thanks to his Night Vision mod, the sudden change in lighting didn't bother him so much. The inside somehow smelled less of raw spices and cured meats, but of smoke and wines. More pleasurable he wagered then some of the other market stalls just outside at least in here it didn't make his eyes water. Ryo noted the man sitting in the back, two spots open to speak to him. "I mean, if I were a quest giving NPC that's where I'd sit." He said, getting closer to the NPC. Ryo sighed as it began to spout out nonsensical drivel about this and that. Ryo simply nodded his head, only half listening along. It wasn't until the mention of familial bonds was brought up that Ryo turned his head to pay attention. This, Cassim, was some sort of family member that needed to be rescued. And in turn, would give them the location of the Cave of Wonders. Now that was interesting. Ryo turned to Nymoria at her request of getting something to drink. He smiled, and raised a hand for someone to come over and bring drinks. But before Ryo could ask the NPC any follow up question's or receive the drinks he ordered, he received notice from Acanthus to buy Nymoria something later, and move on to the fortress now. The samurai's face scrunched a bit as it made sense to go out and save Hassim now, but it wasn't like this was a time gated quest. And he just ordered. Surely they had time to be out of the sun for a moment's reprieve. Ryo opened his map, seeing where the Bandit Camp was. Familiar with bandit camps himself, he could already see a few spots that could be exploited if someone was sneaky enough. But knowing himself, and looking at his party it was probably safe to say that none of them would be sneaking in. Closing his map, he would follow his compatriots back outside into the blazing sun. "Right then, so what's the plan?" Ryo asked. "Do we just, charge in and kill every bandit we see?" He asked, then saying another option. "Because the quest says we could pay for his release, but I know I am completely out of Col at the moment." He said, his face turning red not from just the sun. He raised a hand as the trio took their first steps out into the desert. <Quest Info> Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 PARTY STATS Spoiler Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 Acanthus | HP: 840/840 | EN: 98/98 | DMG: 23 | MIT:95 | ACC:5 | AA | BRN-IM | FL.AURA: 8 | BH:46 | HB: 37 | VAMP-D: 46 | REC: 4 | LD:5 Nymoria | HP [700/700] | EN [108/108] | ACC [5] | DMG [22] | EVA [4] | BH [+37] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+1 BD] | LD [+1] THREAD INFO Spoiler equipped »Gin Kin (+9 DMG) »Fierce Deities Coat (+36 MIT, +3EN Recovery) »Accuracy Charm (+3 Accuracy) battle-ready inventory » » » » » skills »Katana R5 (+7 DMG) »Heavy Armor R5 (+40 MIT, -5 Stealth) »Battle Healing R3 (18 healing per turn) »Searching R2 (+2 LD, +2 Stealth Detection) » extra skills »Survival (Healing effects 10% more, immune to environmental effects) »Leadership R1 (Grants access to Leadership Arts, takes 2 Extra Slots) »Leadership R1 » » addons »[Katana] Focus (Minor Crit on BD 8, reduce DoT threshold by 1) »[Katana] Stamina (-2 EN) »[Heavy Armor] Iron Skin (+15 MIT, +45 HP) mods »Impetus (+1 DMG) »Emergency Recovery (Heal 62 when brought below 156 | Once per thread | 10EN) »Night Vision (No penalties from low light/darkness) buffs » Dining Room: "Tasty" - Turn 2 identical food items (same quality, tier, & enhancements) into a Lesser Feast. Nymoria 0 Posted Wednesday at 05:03 PM Author #13 Share Posted Wednesday at 05:03 PM Nymoria flicked her gaze around as Acanthus spoke to the NPC. Her one, small blessing in the situation being that she didn’t have to listen to the monologue that the individual provided, if she simply turned her attention anywhere but directly at him. Her eyes passed over the crowd, taking in the collection of various NPCs and players finding luxury and relaxation away from the sun’s heat. She smiled at the thought of the normalcy of the entire situation, before her attention was pulled back to the moment with Acanthus rising, and Ryo looking sour about something that Nymoria had missed. Time to go? She signed to the others, before following them out of the tavern and back into the sunlit pathways that led through the settlement. Her miniature map had already updated with their new destination – a good thing, since she’d paid no heed to the map that the NPC had displayed – and found her feet moving along the pathway automatically towards her destination. She cocked her head slightly at Ryo’s question, considering it before giving a soft shrug. I can pay for his release. I have some col floating around, and no real use for it at the moment. It is easy enough to replenish, with a simple visit to Nemo’s garden. She glanced over towards Acanthus, before considering her next words. Something about the woman’s determination and forward program spoke of someone in a hurry, and Nymoria found her brow creasing ever so slightly in confusion and concern. We could also sneak in. We would likely have to sneak out again, though. And I am not very sneaky. Even though I sound silent. She grinned at her own joke, uncertain if either of the other two would pick up on the humour. Still, it entertained her in the moment, and she had a small measure of pride that she was even able to make such a joke now. Turning back to their continued progress, however, she found herself falling into seriousness again. With Ryo-san here, we should probably avoid fighting. He may be in danger. Acanthus 0 Posted Thursday at 05:20 AM #14 Share Posted Thursday at 05:20 AM (edited) “Holy and phase?” Acanthus paused for a moment to think. “You’ll be hard-pressed to find that. I’ve only ever seen one of those in the game, and the swordswoman that wields it is unlikely to part with it. Your best bet is to find some good spots to hunt monsters, earn col and items, and make friends with an appraiser. Morningstar and Freyd may be able to help you there. I could introduce you.” And I am not very sneaky. Even though I sound silent. Acanthus found the joke hilarious, so she made sure to let Nymoria know with a small smile. “That was very funny.” Enough humor, back to business. “I don’t think I could sneak either. I tried it for a little bit, but sneaking is hard in armor. And I know we could fight them all but frankly…” Acanthus ran her hand through her hair. “Frankly, the fighting on this floor is dull. And while I appreciate safe combat, I have plans this afternoon, and would prefer not to get tied up in some less-than-lootable mobs.” When Ryo mentioned the possibility of payment, her eyes widened with curiosity. “Really? How much is it?” Checking her own guide, she saw the bill: two-hundred thousand col. “Oh, that’s not bad. Nymoria, you really don’t have to. I earned a little extra last week when I was out fighting rainbow toucans in the Paradise Islands. There are a few well-secreted islands that still have some high-value monsters to grind. We should go sometime.” Acanthus’s ears burned when she remembered there was a whole other person here. “Ah, I’m getting distracted. Let’s head out of town and to the bandit fort. It should be on our map.” (nose goes on talking to the bandits) Post action: swapping out armor and shield for empty avarice and worthless ring (I'll throw up full stats later) Edited Thursday at 02:22 PM by Acanthus
Ryo 0 Posted Thursday at 06:25 AM #15 Share Posted Thursday at 06:25 AM Ryo walked with his hands inside of his obi in a restful position. "Aha~, so such a combination isn't impossible." He said, nodding. A new goal had appeared in his mind. If it wasn't impossible, then he would work as hard as he could to achieve said item. "I've been planning on making a material run, but killing mobs over and over again kind of gets boring." He admitted. Ryo continued to follow the pair. At the conversation of paying for the mans release, Ryo thought about how much it could cost. And when closer inspection revealed that it would be 200k, Ryo flinched and looked dismayed. "Maybe, I should do that farming trip sooner than I thought. I'm afraid I cannot afford any of this. At least, if I am to purchase us drinks after." He said, hoping to dissuade his uneasiness with some humor. It worked only somewhat. "I could certainly try sneaking in should we choose, but I can't say that I'll fare any better than you two." He said going through the options again. The samurai exhaled loudly through his nose at the joke. "Funny." He said. "I get it." He let out a small yawn and nodded as he continued to listen. "I also detest this floor, and would much rather spend time fighting nothing and leaving for greener pastures." He said nodding. He looked up at Nymoria. He held a hand up to his chest and took in a breath, feigning being taken aback. "Ah! I'll not have my honor tested in such a way. I'll have you know that despite my gear, and lack of willingness to fight on this dreadful floor I am quite the capable duelist. Acanthus can atest. I was there alongside the front liners assisting with the trap of floor twenty-nine." He said, putting his hand back into his obi. -Several Minutes of Desert Hiking Later- Traipsing through the loose sand almost made Ryo wish he didn't tag along for this. He knew about this bandit camp, and would often steer players away from it back in the day. But now he was actively walking towards it. "Alright, we're getting close which means that if they have scouts they've seen us already." He said matter of factly. He opened his inventory, and pulled out a small banner and waved it around. If the bandits didn't know they were there, they sure did now. "I'll talk to them about Hassim's release, if you two wanna transfer the funds to me right quick I'll make sure it's handled well. Or at least well enough that Cassim isn't killed outright." Ryo said. Stepping closer, it wasn't long before the bandit encampment was clear and in sight. Small huts made from tanned hides and large bones were surrounded by rocks and other debris. A makeshift wall left them open to people much like himself being able to sneak in, but that was the point wasn't it. But not today, Ryo had already flagged them down and it wasn't long until the three were surrounded by NPC bandits. Weapons trained on them, Ryo held up his hands. "What is it you're here for travelers?" The man spoke through a heavy accent. "Not much." Ryo replied. "Just looking for a man you have. Cassim." Upon mentioned Cassim's name the NPC's looked at eachother for a moment before looking back at the bandit who was speaking. "You are here to purchase him?" Ryo nodded, and sent the Col ahead. The man pulled out a small coin purse and began to count the coins inside of it. Nodding, the NPC spoke back to the group. "You wait here, I'll bring him out." He said before disappearing back into the encampment. Ryo let out a sigh. "Well, so far so good." He muttered, wondering when he'd be allowed to put his arms down. A few minutes later, the bandit returned dragging another through the sand. That must be Cassim. "This troublemaker is now yours. Be sure he stays out of trouble." The bandit threatened. Not saying anything, the bandits turned and left going back inside their safe little hole. Finaly able to drop his hand, Ryo spoke. "Phew, thought I was gonna have to hold them up forever. But hey, got the man of the hour." He said looking at the NPC. <Quest Info> Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 PARTY STATS Spoiler Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 Acanthus | HP: 840/840 | EN: 98/98 | DMG: 23 | MIT:95 | ACC:5 | AA | BRN-IM | FL.AURA: 8 | BH:46 | HB: 37 | VAMP-D: 46 | REC: 4 | LD:5 Nymoria | HP [700/700] | EN [108/108] | ACC [5] | DMG [22] | EVA [4] | BH [+37] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+1 BD] | LD [+1] THREAD INFO Spoiler equipped »Gin Kin (+9 DMG) »Fierce Deities Coat (+36 MIT, +3EN Recovery) »Accuracy Charm (+3 Accuracy) battle-ready inventory » » » » » skills »Katana R5 (+7 DMG) »Heavy Armor R5 (+40 MIT, -5 Stealth) »Battle Healing R3 (18 healing per turn) »Searching R2 (+2 LD, +2 Stealth Detection) » extra skills »Survival (Healing effects 10% more, immune to environmental effects) »Leadership R1 (Grants access to Leadership Arts, takes 2 Extra Slots) »Leadership R1 » » addons »[Katana] Focus (Minor Crit on BD 8, reduce DoT threshold by 1) »[Katana] Stamina (-2 EN) »[Heavy Armor] Iron Skin (+15 MIT, +45 HP) mods »Impetus (+1 DMG) »Emergency Recovery (Heal 62 when brought below 156 | Once per thread | 10EN) »Night Vision (No penalties from low light/darkness) buffs » Dining Room: "Tasty" - Turn 2 identical food items (same quality, tier, & enhancements) into a Lesser Feast. Nymoria 0 Posted Thursday at 02:44 PM Author #16 Share Posted Thursday at 02:44 PM Nymoria grinned at the response she received from the joke, feeling a flush of excitement as the two of them shared in her humour; even if it wasn’t the roaring, full body laughter she’d seen others erupt into following a strong joke. She could feel a wash of pride as she thought about it all, locking the memory into her mind for future return. Turning back to the topic at hand, however, she noticed the discussion moving towards the payment of col to retrieve the man they had been sent for, and she felt herself squirm slightly. The amount was large, that much was for certain, but she knew she could afford it entirely herself if the need became apparent. Still, as Acanthus offered to cover half the cost, Nymoria found herself opening her menu without another hesitation, smiling and nodding before signing. Do not worry, Ryo. Acanthus and I shall cover today’s cost. You can buy us dinner, once we return safely. Yes? She stuck out her tongue slightly and winked at the man, holding up a pair of peace signs in an attempt to be adorable following her joke. She was cut off as the man explained how he’d assisted the frontliners on the twenty-ninth floor, during a situation that Nymoria had heard about only following its conclusion. All humour seemed to drain from her immediately, and she turned away to hide the expression that had crossed over her face, taking a few moments to calm before returning to the group. By the time she had, Ryo had already begun his negotiations, handing over the col to the bandit-trader that had appeared and taken up communication with Ryo. Nymoria watched in interest as the transaction was completed before deciding to sign to Acanthus. Does…something feel off here? Cassim was delivered safely, however. Dragged from whatever depths he had been hidden within, shoved into their waiting company, and confirmed as their problem now. Yet Nymoria couldn’t shake an odd feeling that something wasn’t right in the situation, and she felt her hand naturally rest atop the pommel of her sabre – a simple, comfortable pose to any who didn’t recognise it as a closer move towards drawing the weapon. Acanthus. Ryo. Something is not right.
Acanthus 0 Posted Thursday at 04:04 PM #17 Share Posted Thursday at 04:04 PM (edited) Acanthus sensed it as well. She thumbed botan from its sheath, prepared for the worst. The bandit's leader loped towards Ryo, eyeing the two sacks of col hungrily. With a swipe faster than her eyes could register, he snatched the col and tested their weight. "Yea… Oh yea, that's good. The money's all there. Alright, pack it up boys, we're—" The leader's eyes bulged. A falchion burst from his chest, ripping through his armor with an ugly sound. The man behind him cackled as he tore the leader off the end of his blade. The first leader sputtered in confusion, then shattered. "That's a nice sentiment, but it won't get you anywhere. Me, personally, I'm a forward thinker. For example… Who's more valuable: some nobody with a gold ring, or mercenaries that can drop 200,000 col like its nothing?" He grinned madly, the answer apparent in his eyes. "So here's the new deal. Die." Ryo 0 Posted Thursday at 04:13 PM #18 Share Posted Thursday at 04:13 PM (edited) Ryo dusted off his hands. All they had to do was deliver Cassim back to his brother and and call it a day. Drinks were gonna be on him, or at least the first round was. Just as he was about to thank the bandit for doing buisness, his sixth sense went off at the same time as Nym’s. Ryos eyes narrowed as he grabbed Cassim by the collar and tossed him back a few feet into the sand behind them. As he did, the usurper bandit drove his blade through. Hands moved faster than mind and Ryo found himself gripping his Katana, ready to draw it. he watched the objective change. This wasn’t normally part of the quest, was it? Was this a glitch like floor twenty-nine? Didn’t matter, he needed to protect himself, the two with him, and Cassim. Nymoria 0 Posted 22 hours ago Author #19 Share Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Everything fell apart instantly. Nymoria watched as the bandit tore through its former companion, leaving nothing but a body behind. She’d drawn her sabre during the initial confrontation, but as everything sudden erupted, she found herself pausing. Acanthus had leapt forward, slamming her blade into the bandits and cutting through them with a ferocity that was clearly driven into muscle memory with time. Even Ryo reacted, tossing Cassim behind them and then rushing to help Acanthus. Something’s not right, still… Nymoria glanced about, noticing suddenly as another group of bandits appeared from the dunes, beginning to sprint towards the group. Soon, they would be well outnumbered, a dangerous situation even for the best of frontline players. Her eyes casting back to the original group, Nymoria knew that they would have to tear through them all before the reinforcements arrived – a task that would certainly be easier said, than done. Less think, more stab. Move, now. Warn the others. She dove forwards, moving to a position where Ryo and Acanthus would be able to see her, before signing a quick combination of symbols – hoping it would be enough for the others to make out what she was trying to say – before lunging into the fray with her sabre slashing deftly to every single side. Acanthus 0 Posted 9 hours ago #20 Share Posted 9 hours ago (edited) Nymoria’s “voice” carried above the clamor. “Bandits. South. More.” A horde of cutthroats approached the camp, weapons drawn and eager for blood. Acanthus did her best to remain calm. The situation was unexpected, but they’d handled the first round well enough. The real problem would be how many. Any monster was a threat when they didn’t stop coming. And Ryo… She glanced over to see him holding his own. Acanthus shouldn’t be worried—she’d seen him fight. He was no pushover. But even still, paying the ransom had been her suggestion, and now things were flying off the rails because of it. “I wonder how many other people have been where we are right now,” she mused aloud. She hopped back to avoid a bandit’s greatclub. “It’s possible this is a chance complication. It’s also possible this is normal when paying the ransom, and the guide is silent because no one has done it… Or no one has done it and lived to report back.” She stunned another group of bandits, maneuvering towards the approaching bandits to give Nymoria and Ryo a chance to move in. “I’ll do my best to keep this next group pinned down. Try and direct stragglers to me; I can take a few hits before we need to start worrying. Any ideas on getting out of here?” Spoiler Acanthus | Lvl 66 (34/32) | Acanthus | HP: 840/840 | EN: 98/98 | DMG: 23 | MIT:95 | ACC:5 | AA | BRN-IM | FL.AURA: 8 | BH:46 | HB: 37 | VAMP-D: 46 | REC: 4 | LD:5 Nymoria | Lv. 33 | P. 7 | HP [700/700] | EN [108/108] | ACC [5] | DMG [22] | EVA [4] | BH [+37] | Bleed [36] | Keen [+1 BD] | LD [+1] Ryo | HP: 680/680 | EN: 100/100 | DMG: 21 | MIT:75 | ACC:3 | BH:22 | REC: 3 | LD:2 Desert Bandit 5 | 274/550 | 150 DMG Desert Bandit 6 | 274/550 | 150 DMG Desert Bandit 7 | 274/550 | 150 DMG Desert Bandit 8 | 274/550 | 150 DMG Post Action: TECH-F -> Desert Bandits 1-4 241465 | BD 3 | Hit! | 23 * 12 = 276 damage.
