Minako 0 Posted February 23 #1 Share Posted February 23 (edited) From Floor one, to floor eleven, it was time to move to a different floor that didn't have a one in it. A faraway place, where the caravan camels roam. Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face, it's barbaric. And it was perfect for them. Floor five was a far cry from the moderately temperate places they were hosting the previous two weeks. The sand was an obstacle itself, with it being rough, and coarse, and irritating. And it was sure to get everywhere. Minako didn't mind the sand, or the heat. She always viewed it as a beach rather than a massive desert the lack of humidity notwithstanding. She sat in what could only be described as an opulent lawn chair, alongside her co-host Kindling. Her entourage stood beside them, dressed in white and held comically large leaf's that were being used to fan them. The arena itself was more or less a sand filled pit, surrounded by walls that shaded the spectators with some shade with large fabric banners. The crowd itself was much, much, larger than the last two weeks. A combination of it being a lower floor and becoming quite popular may have been the culprit. But who actually knew? Well over a hundred had arrived today to see the blood sport, and see what pleasant surprises were in store. It was time for the show to start. Minako stood from her chair, dressed in regal attire of light pink and purple silks. She gave a sly wink to her co-host as she approached the edge of her viewing platform. "Ladies and gentlemen!" She cried out to the crowd, her voice being amplified once again by the tool she held. "Today we bring entertainment that few have seen before! Combatants from all across the world are here to fight for your entertainment, for honor and love, and for glory in victory." She said, the crowd going wild with cheers and stomping. As the crowds cheers dulled down she spoke again. "We have two special combatants here with us! Each with a unique fighting style and indomitable spirit!" Minako cried out over the crowd. Minako raised her left arm, a portcullis slowly began to open revealing the first fighter. Wulfrin was the first out. "The perfect man around if you need to beat the heat! A man with steel in his bones and ice water in his veins! He's cold and quick as death itself. You know him, you love him, it's WULFRIN!" She said, letting the crowd cheer for him. Boots stomped as the crowd began to chant his name. Solid black banners, with a ice blue water texture waved for him as his fans cheers for him. Minako raised her other hand, and as the portcullis opened she announced. "And in the other side of the arena, a rising star taking that first step into the big leagues. The man from the shadows themselves, give it up for Kiyabu!" Minako said, as he was allowed to jaunt into the arena. Fans sporting dark purple and black pennants waved them back and forth to support their undying love to him. "Wulfrin is on a hot streak! Will the young upcomer be able to dethrone him?" Minako asked the crowd as they cheered and cried out. "Combatants." Minako said in a practiced tone. "You are allowed to trade your words of sportsmanship, or wish for the blood of their enemy. And then, watch your footing." She reminded them with a devious smirk, if anyone was close enough to see her, they would've caught her winking again. Alas, she settled for simply raising her hand. "On my mark. Get ready..." Then the counter began from there. They'd be given just those few moments to mentally prepare themselves for the third week of the competition. ~~☼~~~~☼~~~~~☼~~~~☼~~ Hello again! Happy third week! Below is a gentle reminder of the rules, regulations, and what nots needed to play. Please be sure to refer to the Informational. Another soft reminder to NOT use outside items. Please use only the items purchased in the Event Shop. Spoiler Please remember to LINK your Spreadsheet, and triple check that all your stats are correct. Failure to do so before the actual combat begins will result in a loss by default. Going forward, we will be taking a much more hardline stance on this rule. The reason for that is out of respect for the time and energy of the hosts, and your fellow participants. Remember that initiative has changed last week, and will remain that way. Below is the explanation of the thematic, and its mechanics. Spoiler Thematic Explanation When players take any Main Action except Rest or Consumable, they must roll on the CD. On Attack rolls, use the CD attached. On a CD of 4 or lower, players will activate a trap and take an unmitigatable 20 damage. (This does not trigger Holy Blessing.) On a Natural 1 CD, the player triggering the trap will also be inflicted with a Status Effect. The status effect will be determined by their MD on the following Chart. Note: the effects of Traps triggered take effect before Attacks are Finalized. E.g. a status applied by a trap that reduces Accuracy will take effect immediately during that turn. Status Name Effect MD Roll Purify Cleanses the player of 1 Status Effect. 1 Blind Player will have -3 Accuracy 2 Turns. Stacks ontop of Pheromones. 2 Molotov Player will be afflicted with Burn, taking 14 Burn Damage for 2 Turns. 3 Electrocute Player is paralyzed for One Turn. If this trap is rolled twice in a row by the same player, avoid the Trap. 4 Blight Player takes 8 Damage, and loses 5 mitigation, for 2 turns. 5 Freeze Player is Frozen for 1 Turn. If this trap is rolled twice in a row by the same player, avoid the Trap. 6 Serrated Player will be afflicted with Bleed, taking 12 Bleed Damage for 2 Turns. 7 Ankle Snapper Player will have their healing reduced by 50% for 2 turns. Stacks with Heartbreaker for 75% healing reduction. 8 Relief Player will heal 15 HP a turn for 2 Turns. 9 Explosive Trap No Status Effect. Instead, the player triggering the Trap will take double the unmitigatable damage. (40) 10 Edited February 23 by Minako
Wulfrin 0 Posted February 23 #2 Share Posted February 23 (edited) Cold and quick like death itself? Wulfrin thought to himself as his match was announced. Am I becoming the villain of this tournament? Wulfrin stepped into the rather familiar sands of Floor 5. He'd traveled here far too many times with newbies wanting a few quick levels. One such newbie was his opponent today, Kiyabu. Wulfrin's first encounter with the man was during one such excursion to slay the rather famous now Terra Firma, a massive land shark who made a similar sandy basin home. The previous week Wulfrin and Jomei had managed to win their match against Acanthus and Kiyabu, so Wulfrin had a fairly good idea of what his opponent was bringing. The arena was familiar as well, it hadn't been that long since he and Freyd had made a short trip out here to take part in Abdullah's prize fight against a raging lizardman. Wulfrin was adorned in a starkly different set of gear than had been seen before. Up until now he had been wearing longer coats with little to no extra protection, but today he had donned a significantly heavier set up. He'd taken yet another page from Freyd's book and traded his light armor skill for heavy armor and with that came the need for a new armor kit. He had retained the trademark charcoal coloring on the coat and accompanying cowl, but he was now rocking additional ornate armor pieces. Icingdeath and his earcuff, Echoes were the only returning gear again. Between his fingers he flourished a small coin with the face of one of the shout casters on either side. "So Kiyabu," Wulfrin said as his opponent met him in the arena floor. "The Sharkbait has become the Shark. How do you feel about making things a bit interesting for our honored guest?" Wulfrin gestured to a familiar booth high up in the rather makeshift arena. There in similar attire to the shout casters, was a rather disgusted Abdullah. Wulfrin locked eyes with the lavish aristocrat as they waved off another servant. With a gentle smirk and salute, Wulfrin made sure the NPC knew one of his favorite players had taken the stage. * * * Wulfrin | HP: 200/200 | EN: 43/43 | DMG: 10 | MIT:36 | ACC:3 | AA | PARA-IM | BH:6 | REC: 2 | FRB: 10 | FRZ: 16 | LD:3 Spoiler "Name: Wulfrin True Tier: 6 Level: 10 Paragon Level: 0 HP: 200/200 EN: 43/43 Stats: Damage: 10 Mitigation: 36 Accuracy: 3 Battle Healing: 6 Loot Die: 3 Stealth Rating: -3 AA PARA-IM REC: 2 FRB: 10 FRZ: 16 Equipped Gear: Weapon/Armor/Trinket: - Icingdeath | AA | Frostbite | Freeze II Armor/Trinket: - Helldusk Armor | T4 Demonic Armor | MIT 2 | REC 2 Shield/Armor/Trinket: - Echos | ACC III | PARA-IM Combat Mastery: - Combat Mastery: Damage R3 Combat Shift: - Familiar Skill: - Custom Skill: - Skills: - Battle Healing R3 - Charge - Energist - Heavy Armor R3 - Searching R3 - Straight Sword R3 Extra Skills: - Forgotten King's Authority - Frozen Hide - Meditation Inactive Extra Skills: - Disguise - Survival - Brawler - Assault Mode Addons: - Focus - Iron Skin - Precision - Stamina Mods: - Impetus - Night Vision Inactive Mods: Battle Ready Inventory: - THE Coin x9 Housing Buffs: - Basic Kitchen: Increase the effectiveness of a single food item consumed in a thread by +1 T1 slot. Kiyabu Hisao 0 Posted February 25 #3 Share Posted February 25 (edited) A few minutes before the official start of the match, Kiyabu was engaged in a flurry of coordination and last-minute preparations. He had enlisted the help of a trusted friend, calling in a favor that would be pivotal for the whimsical and jaw-dropping entrance he had planned for this week's spectacle. The plan was audacious, a blend of theatrics and cunning, designed to captivate the audience and set the stage for the battle to come. As Kiyabu laid out the details, he emphasized the importance of his friend's role, though it was small in duration, it was crucial in impact. The friend was to don a long cloak, one that obscured his face and body type, rendering him an enigmatic figure in the eyes of the crowd. "Once you've grabbed their attention." Kiyabu instructed. "Use this warp crystal... But make sure no one can see it. That way, they'll watch as the cloak falls flat... and I'll reveal my location." The instructions were clear, the execution reliant on timing and stealth. With his friend prepared to play his part, Kiyabu made his way to his own hiding spot, a concealed nook beneath the sandy floor of the arena. He had drawn inspiration from the field boss Terra Firma, whose subterranean tactics had left a lasting impression. The hiding spot was cleverly chosen, a testament to Kiyabu's ingenuity and attention to detail. Beneath the sand, Kiyabu lay in wait, his senses attuned to the vibrations above, his mind focused on the unfolding plan. He clutched his communication device, anticipating the message from his friend that would signal the commencement of his reveal. Every second was filled with anticipation, the tension of the moment a reminder of the delicate balance between planning and spontaneity. When the message finally came, confirming the success of his friend's distraction, Kiyabu readied himself. Above, the crowd was buzzing with confusion and intrigue, their attention momentarily fixated on the mysterious figure who had vanished in an instant, leaving only an empty cloak behind. Seizing the opportunity, Kiyabu began his ascent from beneath the sandy arena. His hand emerged first, reaching up like the spectral grasp of a fallen warrior, a nod to the legends of lost battles waged in this very place. The crowd gasped as his hand closed around Wulfrin's ankle, the unexpected touch adding a layer of eerie drama to the scene. With a measured and theatrical flair, Kiyabu pulled himself from his hiding spot, his emergence a spectacle of surprise and creativity. The audience erupted into applause, their confusion turned to admiration for the inventive entrance. Kiyabu stood, brushing the sand from his clothes with a playful grin, acknowledging the cheers with a wave. The stage was set, the mood electric, and Kiyabu's entrance had achieved its purpose. It was a testament to the power of imagination and the art of performance, an unforgettable start to what promised to be an exhilarating match. As he took his place in the arena, Kiyabu felt the familiar rush of adrenaline, the thrill of the challenge ahead, and the satisfaction of a plan well-executed, ready to engage in the duel that awaited. “Looks like you've armoured up since our last match, Wulfrin..” Kiyabu murmured with his astute observation, While removing the mask on his face. To reveal a cheerful smirk. “I've not really improved to become a full fledged Shark yet, But who knows.. I might evolve in this match with you.” A witty retort left his lips, Before turning his attention to Abdullah. “You know, I'm always down to make things interesting for our honored guest.” WC: 600 Spoiler Kiyabu Hisao | HP: 200/200 | EN: 43/43 | DMG: 7 | MIT:30 | ACC:3 | KEEN: 1 | EVA:1 | LD:1 Spoiler Equipped: Terra Splicer: DMG-II, Keen-I Gye's Armour: MIT-II, EVA-I Phantom Mask: ACC-III Spoiler Battle Ready Inventory: Caltrops ×4 Spoiler Skills: Dagger [R2] Light Armour [R3/5] Searching [R1] Energist Extra Skills: Assault Mode Character spreadsheet: Link *** Initiative: ID241714 LD:2 Edited February 25 by Kiyabu Hisao
Wulfrin 0 Posted February 25 #4 Share Posted February 25 (edited) "Well then," Wulfrin said with a smirk as he produced a small coin pouch. He held up the one coin showing off the stamped faces of the two announcers. "I've got nine of these coins. Each one can boost either my damage output or yours. Once all coins have flipped, we separate and create distance between the two of us. Think of it as the old school days where two people who were pissed off at each other would walk ten paces then shoot at each other. Heads will be our announcer, Minako. Tails will be Kindling. I declare heads." The first coin sprung into the air from Wulfrin's thumb before coming to rest in the sand. Kindling's face being the one shown before shattering into an array of data fragments. A buff appeared next to Kiyabu's health bar. "Congrats," Wulfrin smiled as he retrieved another coin from the pouch. "But will your luck hold out? I declare heads." The second coin rocketed into the air mimicking the first almost exactly. It even went so far as to land tails again. Bruh. Wulfrin thought to himself. Two in a row. Not exactly making this favorable are we Cardinal. * * * Main Action: Flip THE Coin. Wulfrin Chooses Evens -2 EN Free Action: Flip THE Coin. Wulfrin Chooses Evens -2 EN ID 241716 | LD 13. Kiyabu Hisao 0 Posted February 25 #5 Share Posted February 25 (edited) "Interesting." Kiyabu murmured, his curiosity piqued as he listened attentively to Wulfrin's detailed explanation about the mystique and mechanics of the enchanted coins. They were said to hold the whims of fortune in their metallic embrace, each flip a dance with destiny. "I thought of buying at least one of those coins." He continued, reflecting on his initial interest. "But I changed my mind at the last minute, opting for something else a little more practical." Yet, as he watched Wulfrin demonstrate their power, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of intrigue at the prospect of testing fate. "Alright." Kiyabu declared with a twinkle of mischief in his eyes. "let's see who Lady Fortune favors most in these nine coin flips. Since you're going heads, I'll pick tails." The challenge was set, a friendly rivalry infused with the thrill of chance. As though the Goddess of Luck herself had heard his silent prayer, the first of the nine flips landed in his favor, the coin resting decisively on tails. "Looks like I won the first coin flip." Kiyabu announced, a playful grin curling along his lips. The small victory was a delightful surprise, a testament to the unpredictable nature of luck. It was a moment to savor, the first step in their whimsical contest. "Luck isn't something one controls." He mused aloud, echoing a philosophy that had guided many a gambler and adventurer. "They flow at their own pace... So I'll go with tails again." His choice was made with a mix of intuition and faith, a belief that the fickle nature of fortune might favor him once more. As they watched the coin rise and fall, spinning through the air with a metallic gleam, the anticipation between them was palpable. The room seemed to hold its breath, the coin's trajectory a focal point of their attention. When it landed, once again on tails, Kiyabu couldn't suppress a chuckle of delight. "Pft~!" The unexpected turn of luck brought a lightness to the air, a shared amusement that transcended the simplicity of the game. Kiyabu's laughter was infectious, a reminder of the joy found in the little victories and the camaraderie forged in moments of shared experience. Wulfrin's own expression was one of good-natured acceptance, a recognition that in the dance with fate, anything was possible. The coin flips continued, each one a testament to chance, each result a mystery until the moment of reveal. For Kiyabu, it was a delightful diversion, a brief respite from the challenges and battles that often defined their world. In the end, whether he emerged victorious in the majority of the flips or not was secondary to the enjoyment of the game itself. The experience was a reminder that life, much like the coin, could be unpredictable and surprising, and that sometimes, the journey was as rewarding as the destination. Wulfrin 0 Posted February 25 #6 Share Posted February 25 (edited) "Well said," Wulfrin smirked as he eyed Abdullah up in the stands. "We've no control over the webs of fate, destiny, luck, or any other similar construct of our universe. The only thing that matters is how well you roll with those punches. A skill I have refined well." Two more coins were retrieved from the small pouch. In quick succession, Wulfrin flipped both coins into the air. Like a well choreographed ballet, both coins stirred up the low lying dust as both came to rest. Wulfrin's eyebrows raised as he spotted the outcome. Both coins had landed in unfavorable positions for him, granting Kiyabu another two bouts of damage boosts. "Seems Lady Luck has taken a shine to you. Should make the fight interesting at least. Last I was told you haven't maxed out your weapon skill, so this should be a nice change of pace for you. Make the most of it, we've got five more to flip." * * * Recovery?: ID 241717 | CD 7 | +2 EN Wulfrin Regains: 3 EN Cooldowns: None Main Action: Flip THE Coin. Kiyabu Hisao 0 Posted February 25 #7 Share Posted February 25 (edited) “I couldn't agree more. If life deals you a bad hand, you shouldn't let it define your state of being." Kiyabu quipped, his tone laced with a philosophical edge that reflected his inner thoughts. He felt the weight of those words ring true, especially in a world where challenges seemed to arise at every corner. “Even at the worst start, you can work hard to change those misfortunes into a shining beacon of hope in this dark world.” He glanced over at Wulfrin, who was intently pulling out two more coins to flip, and the determination in the man's actions mirrored his own. As he observed the coins glinting in the light, a sense of anticipation filled the air. The outcome of those flips felt like a metaphor for their lives, a gamble that could yield unexpected results. Kiyabu leaned forward, excitement bubbling within him as he awaited the reveal. When Wulfrin finally flipped the coins, Kiyabu couldn’t help but burst into laughter, a hearty chuckle escaping his lips. “Pfft~.. Hahaha… Lady Luck clearly has a favorite in this match, doesn’t she?” He grinned, the jovial atmosphere lightening the mood as they shared a moment of camaraderie. He noted the way Wulfrin’s expression transformed, a mix of surprise and amusement evident on his face. Kiyabu felt a sense of connection—both men navigating the chaotic currents of their virtual world, relying on a blend of skill and chance. As the laughter faded, Kiyabu’s thoughts turned back to his own journey. “Indeed, I've been meaning to improve that through this tournament.” He murmured, a slight smirk curving his lips as he reflected on his own growth. “And hopefully win a match or two doing so…” The tournament was more than just a series of battles; it was an opportunity for him to refine his skills, to push beyond his limits. Kiyabu envisioned each match as a stepping stone, a chance to transform his own misfortunes into triumphs. Each failure he experienced would serve as a lesson, guiding him toward mastery and greater confidence in his abilities. Wulfrin 0 Posted February 25 #8 Share Posted February 25 (edited) "Fortune's Favor can only do so much," Wulfrin dovetailed off of Kiyabu's comments with grace and poise. "There are countless stories of heroes down on their luck turning the tides in their favor." Two more coins twisted through the air, propelled upward by Wulfrin's thumbs. After a gleaming display of pirouettes, the two coins landed once more out of Wulfrin's favor. Looks like I'm the one against impossible odds in this bout. Wulfrin's gave once more gently rose to meet his regal overseer's. Abdullah sat lavishly as one of his servants gently fed him fruits from a large bowl while another gently fanned him with a palm leaf. Even from this distance, Wulfrin could pick out the smirk starting to form across the aristocrat's face. Clearly his money was on Kiyabu. "As I was saying," Wulfrin continued as he used the tip of his sword to draw three lines in the sand. "Lady Luck can have her favorites, but there are always two kinds of people that arise when she turns her gaze to us mere mortals." Wulfrin drew a line at the center of the arena before moving roughly ten paces towards the arena's east side. "The first type takes what is given and lavishly abuses it, often putting forth no meaningful effort to maintain that edge." Wulfrin walked back to the center line then another ten paces out in the opposite direction drawing yet another line. "The other type takes Lady Luck's gifts and cherish them, using the blessings in a positive manner in conjunction with their own cunning and skill. For some this is a generous boon and others see diminished results." Wulfrin returned to the center line and retrieved two more coins from the pouch. "Tell me. Where do you see yourself on this scale?" * * * Recovery?: ID 241720 | CD 9 | +2 EN Wulfrin Regains: 3 EN Cooldowns: None Main Action: Flip THE Coin. Kiyabu Hisao 0 Posted February 25 #9 Share Posted February 25 (edited) "What you're saying is true." Kiyabu began, his voice carrying a thoughtful resonance as he engaged with Wulfrin's initial comment. He sought to ground their philosophical musings in a narrative as old as time itself. "Take for instance, the legendary battle between Heracles and the Nemean lion. Its pelt was strong enough to withstand a mighty blade strike from the hero... Without a bit of cunning and luck, he wouldn't have succeeded in his first of twelve labors." The story was a testament to the interplay of strength, wit, and fortune, a timeless reminder of the complexities inherent in any great endeavor. As he spoke, Kiyabu's gaze wandered to the intricate lines that Wulfrin was drawing into the sand. The patterns seemed cryptic, a visual language that hinted at deeper meanings or strategies yet to be unveiled. But before he could delve too deeply into their significance, he tilted his gaze back up, meeting Wulfrin's eyes with a spark of understanding. "Indeed." Kiyabu continued. "This boon can become a double-edged sword if lavishly abused. But for those who cherish its bountiful gift, they'll be in the good graces of her service." His words were laced with respect for the capricious nature of luck, an acknowledgment that fortune was a fickle ally, best approached with humility and gratitude. Having made his point, Kiyabu offered a subtle prayer to the Goddess of Luck, a silent acknowledgment of the forces beyond his control. "If I had to place myself somewhere on this scale of fortune." He admitted with introspection. "It'd be near the middle. Because I've never been this lucky before... So I will honestly cherish its gift." There was sincerity in his voice, a genuine appreciation for the moments of serendipity that had graced his path. A genuine smile lingered on Kiyabu's face, a reflection of his inner contentment and acceptance of the unpredictable nature of life. He understood that luck was not a constant, nor a guarantee, but rather a fleeting presence that could tip the scales in one's favor when least expected. It was a reminder to seize the moment, to embrace the opportunities that chance provided. Wulfrin 0 Posted February 25 #10 Share Posted February 25 (edited) "An apt example," Wulfrin smiled at the mention of Greek legends. "Many demigods of that time were considered tragic heroes. Even a handful of non-demigod mortals had their fair share of bad hands. Odysseus is another that comes to mind in that aspect. To think had he just traveled by land, he could have avoided all that trouble. Granted back then they had no way of knowing Ithaca was just the other side of the land from Troy. Even if they did, traveling there would have been a chore." Two more coins danced through the air. Another buff appeared next to Kiyabu's health gauge, but this time he wasn't alone. For the first time this duel of luck, Wulfrin felt a rush of power pump through his digital mesh. His muscles twitched as if filled with some sort of adrenaline. "Seems Lady Luck may be turning her gaze upon me," Wulfrin smirked as he took his place at one of the lines away from the center. He was stage left of Abdulla and with a wry grin retrieved one final coin from his pouch. "Take your position and ready yourself Goliath." Wulfrin continued as he readied his sword in one hand and the coin in the other. "Once this coin meets the sands, it's game on, and I shall be your David." * * * Recovery?: ID 241723 | CD 10 | +2 EN Wulfrin Regains: 3 EN Cooldowns: None Main Action: Flip THE Coin. Kiyabu Hisao 0 Posted February 25 #11 Share Posted February 25 (edited) “Indeed, Odysseus had it rough.” Kiyabu mused, his voice carrying a tone of admiration for the legendary hero's trials and triumphs. “Leading an army of five hundred men in the battle of Troy with no casualties—that truly takes some luck and ingenuity.” The tale of Odysseus was one of epic proportions, a testament to both human resilience and the capricious nature of fortune. Yet, Kiyabu knew all too well that luck was a fickle companion. “But luck will eventually run out.” He continued, a hint of caution in his words. “Because you can only succeed for so long before hitting a brick wall in the hardest way possible.” As he spoke, Kiyabu's eyes followed the coins as they danced gracefully through the air, each one spinning with a gleam that caught the light. The coins landed with a subtle thud, a sound that resonated with promise as they bestowed yet another buff to his stats. The game they played was one of chance and strategy, and each coin flip was a step in the intricate dance of fate. For the first time in their duel of luck, Kiyabu noted that Wulfrin had succeeded in gaining a power boost. It was a shift in the dynamic, a reminder that fortune favored neither side exclusively. The balance of power was in constant flux, and Kiyabu recognized the importance of adapting to the ever-changing tide. "That's funny." Kiyabu remarked with a wry smile, acknowledging the new development. "If this match was without the boost from those mysterious coins, I would be the one referring to you as 'Goliath.' while addressing myself as the brave David from legends past." The analogy was apt, capturing the essence of their contest—an underdog's challenge against a seemingly insurmountable foe. With calculated precision, Kiyabu slowly moved into a defensive stance, his body a coiled spring ready to react to any move Wulfrin might make. The coins were more than just tokens of chance; they were catalysts in the unfolding narrative of their duel. As another coin floated through the air, Kiyabu observed its trajectory with keen interest, aware that its landing could once again alter the course of their battle. The arena around them seemed to hold its breath, the air charged with anticipation as the coin spun, its fate uncertain until the moment of impact. In this game of luck and skill, Kiyabu understood that every decision, every action, was a step towards either victory or defeat. Yet, the thrill of the contest lay in its unpredictability, in the knowledge that each participant had the power to shape their destiny with every flip. As Kiyabu stood poised in his defensive stance, he felt the pulse of the moment, the intertwining of chance and choice that defined their encounter. In the heart of the arena, amidst the echoes of past legends and the whispers of fortune, he was ready to meet whatever came next with courage and cunning. The dance of fate continued, and Kiyabu was determined to make his mark, one coin flip at a time. Wulfrin 0 Posted February 25 #12 Share Posted February 25 (edited) "Then let us duel," Wulfrin smirked as he readied the final coin. "Let us give the audience what they've come to see. Not an exchange of words or the teasing of Lady Luck, but a thrilling Clash of Blades." The coin sprung into the air far higher than the previous ones. Wulfrin had ensured he would have plenty of time to ready himself. Before the coin had even reached its apex, Wulfrin was in his signature battle stance. His eyes were trained on both his health bar and his opponent's. The coin landed with a small puff of smoke obscuring its result, but Wulfrin knew the outcome. His own status bar increased with another stack of the blessing and at the same moment, his body was in motion. A cloud of dust trailed behind him as he rushed Kiyabu and after several quick strikes with his glowing red blade, Wulfrin skidded to a stop on the other side of Kiyabu. The dust was none to helpful as Wulfrin surveyed the scene only to see Kiyabu untouched. *click* A small device under Wulfrin's foot gave way to the pressure of his movement. "Mother Fu-". An explosion from underneath the sands cut off Wulfrin's shock. In the entire exchange, Wulfrin was the one that ended up losing HP. "No one said there would be traps in this mess." He muttered under his breath. Then his gaze found its way to Abdullah. The Aristocrat had the most devilish grin on his face, and apt comparison considering Wulfrin had been to literal Hell. "No actually that makes plenty of sense. Should have assumed he'd try to rig this." * * * Recovery?: ID 241730 | CD 5 | +0 EN Wulfrin Regains: 1 EN Cooldowns: None Free Action: Flip THE Coin. Kiyabu Hisao 0 Posted February 25 #13 Share Posted February 25 (edited) “Yes, I believe we've kept our audience waiting long enough with our exchange of banter and mythological talks about heroes, along with our verbal teasing of Lady Luck.” Kiyabu retorted, his voice carrying a playful energy that belied the intensity of the battle. A grin spread across his face as he adopted a defensive stance, ready to engage in the spectacle that both he and Wulfrin knew their audience craved. “So let's give them what they came for—a truly spectacular Clash of Blades.” The arena was alive with anticipation, the air charged with the promise of a thrilling contest. As Wulfrin advanced, the trail of dust kicked up by his approach momentarily obscured their vision, adding an element of suspense to the unfolding drama. Kiyabu, unfazed by the swirling particles, took a deep and calming breath, centering himself amidst the chaos. His senses were attuned to the battlefield, listening intently to the hum of a Sword Art, an impending symphony of steel. ‘From my left…’ He murmured quietly to himself, his instincts honed to a fine edge. With precision and timing borne of experience, he lifted his dagger to deftly deflect and counter the incoming strikes. ‘Right, lower left, upper right…’ Each movement was deliberate, a dance of defense that showcased his mastery over the blade. As the faint humming of Wulfrin's sword faded, both participants stood poised, waiting for the dust cloud to settle and reveal the outcome of their exchange. To Wulfrin's surprise, as the dust cleared, Kiyabu stood unscathed by the recent assault. His eyes glimmered with a mixture of satisfaction and readiness, a warrior undeterred by the challenges before him. But the tension in the air was palpable, and Kiyabu’s nerves tingled with awareness. The arena was treacherous, its shifting sands concealing traps that lay in wait for the unwary. After witnessing his opponent fall victim to one such hidden snare, Kiyabu felt a surge of caution. The explosive trap had been a stark reminder of the unpredictability of their battlefield. “Looks like our esteemed guest prepared these gifts ahead of time.” He remarked with a touch of humor, acknowledging the cunning preparation that had gone into the arena's design. Seizing the moment, Kiyabu launched into a swift dash toward Wulfrin, who was still recovering from the explosion that had taken him by surprise. The distance between them closed rapidly, each step calculated to maintain momentum and control. As he approached, Kiyabu's dagger began to emit a purplish hue, a telltale sign of a Sword Art activation. The energy infused the blade with enhanced power, a force that Kiyabu wielded with precision. He delivered three powerful strikes, each aimed at a vital point, the blows a testament to his strategic acumen. With the strikes executed, Kiyabu quickly retreated a few feet, putting distance between them once more. It was a tactical maneuver, designed to maintain the advantage while minimizing the risk of retaliation. In the fluid dance of combat, Kiyabu balanced aggression with caution, his every move a calculated step in the ongoing duel. The arena, with its layers of deception and danger, was both a stage and a proving ground. As Kiyabu prepared for the next phase of their encounter, he remained vigilant, aware that success required not just skill and strength, but also adaptability and foresight. In the heart of the battle, amidst the echoes of clashing blades and the watchful gaze of their audience, Kiyabu embraced the challenge, determined to emerge victorious. Wulfrin 0 Posted February 25 #14 Share Posted February 25 (edited) Wulfrin felt his body lockdown as Kiyabu strategically hit his key mobility points. An all to familiar effect appeared in Wulfrin's vision signifying his stunned status. This wont due. Wulfrin thought to himself as his HP bar was almost completely gone. For a moment his usually crimson eyes flashed an icy blue, the whites becoming pitch black as a fiendish roar filled the arena. Wulfrin's body regained mobility as he quickly moved to attack mode. The retalitory art was much the same as the one Kiyabu had unleashed only with a bit more... bang. Icingdeath's icy aura erupted around them chilling the desert air to a much more reasonable temperature as the icy nature of the blade began to crawl up Kiyabu's form. Just like that the scales had shifted back to Wulfrin's favor as the HP values became rather similar to a cursory glance. "I won't be that easy to put down," Wulfrin taunted as his gaze remained fixed on Kiyabu. "You'll have to strike me harder Goliath." * * * Recovery?: ID 241734 | CD 10 | +2 EN Wulfrin Regains: 3 EN, 6 HP Cooldowns: FKA (1/7) Post Action: [x8] Tech-F vs Kiyabu (9 EN) Free Action: Forgotten King's Authority (-7 EN) ID 241735 | BD 10 (Major Crit) | 16+2=18=144-30=114 | CD 2 | MD 7 Wulfrin takes 20 Unmitigated Damage Wulfrin deals 114 Damage to Kiyabu. Kiyabu Hisao 0 Posted February 25 #15 Share Posted February 25 (edited) With the momentary reprieve of his opponent being locked down by a stun status effect, Kiyabu seized the opportunity to put some distance between them. He calculated his next move, aware of the fleeting nature of such advantages in battle. However, his plans were abruptly interrupted by a fiendish roar that filled the arena, a sound so primal and fierce that it seemed to shake the very ground beneath him. In an instant, the sweltering desert heat that had been a constant companion transformed into an icy chill, the air biting and unforgiving. “Hm!” Kiyabu's gaze snapped back to Wulfrin, expecting to find him immobilized by the stunning effect. But to his alarm, he saw Wulfrin moving with an unexpected agility. ‘Shit..!’ Kiyabu's mind raced as he realized that his friend and opponent had an ace up his sleeve—an extra skill that could neutralize status effects. This unforeseen twist added a new layer of complexity to their duel, one that required rapid adaptation. In the blink of an eye, Wulfrin closed the distance between them, his movements swift and relentless. “Ngh!” Kiyabu grunted as he felt the strikes landing one after another, each blow a testament to Wulfrin's prowess. But the assault was not merely physical; there was a chilling edge to Wulfrin's weapon, a unique attribute that began to manifest. “WHAT!” Kiyabu exclaimed as he felt his legs being secured in place, encased by creeping sheets of freezing ice that threatened to immobilize him completely. “In that case!” Kiyabu's mind raced, searching for a way to counteract the encroaching ice. Before the effects could restrain him further, he acted with quick thinking and desperation. He threw up a circle of caltrops around him, their sharp edges gleaming ominously in the chill air. The makeshift barrier was a desperate attempt to hinder Wulfrin's approach, a tactical maneuver designed to buy him precious time. As he executed his plan, Kiyabu's mind flickered back to their earlier banter, where Wulfrin had likened himself to David facing Goliath. “You're right, David.” He murmured in agreement, his voice a mix of frustration and resolve. “I'll definitely need to strike harder next time.” The words were both a promise and a challenge, a recognition of the need to elevate his game and meet Wulfrin's skill head-on. The arena, now a battleground of ice and steel, crackled with tension. Kiyabu, temporarily freed from immediate danger, assessed his next move. He knew that every second counted, that the ice could reclaim him if he hesitated. With determination burning in his chest, he prepared to break free from his icy shackles and press the attack once more. In this dance of blades and strategy, Kiyabu embraced the uncertainty and danger, aware that only by adapting quickly and thinking creatively could he hope to turn the tide. The duel was far from over, and Kiyabu was resolved to fight with all his might, determined to carve his path to victory amidst the swirling chaos of battle. Wulfrin 0 Posted February 25 #16 Share Posted February 25 (edited) "Checkmate," Wulfrin muttered as he spun around, narrowly avoiding the field of caltrops before him as well as Abdulla's little surprises beneath the sands. Wulfrin's blade ignited with the light of a sword art as it danced across the frozen form before him, the ice eventually giving way as Kiyabu's health bar dropped to zero. In a flash the blade was returned to it's scabbard immediately halting any lingering effects it was imposing on the battlefield. The crowd erupted with cheers and celebration. That is except for the esteemed VIP, Abdullah. Wulfrin's gaze met the aristocrat's just as the hidden knife Abdullah kept on hand found its way into the neck of his helpless NPC attendant. "Same old same old I guess," Wulfrin sighed as he turned his attention to the player before him. As the applause echoed throughout the arena, Wulfrin simply hefted Kiyabu onto his shoulders and helped the attending healers safely transport his defeated opponent. As they came to in the makeshift first aide station, Wulfrin would simply smile while his own wounds were tended to. "Good Game," Wulfrin spoke to his competitor. "Perhaps we can quest together sometime. I'm interested to see how you perform when we're fighting on the same side. Also don't fret about Abdullah's antics, if you really want to piss him off travel with me some more.
