Kisodeth 0 Posted March 3 #1 Share Posted March 3 (edited) Kisodeth stepped onto the second floor of Aincrad, the rugged, stone-built town of Urbus. A fortress of cliffs and craggy pathways, it loomed around her, its towering structures etched into the very mountainside. She was just a breath away from hitting level 11 a handful of experience short of breaking into Tier 2. That meant better stats, better equipment, and a new level of power. For now, though, Winter’s Discontent and Death’s Embrace would get at least one more mission’s worth of blood. The only question was… what quest? She barely had time to take her second step into town before something came hurtling toward her. A flash of movement. A presence moving too fast. Her hand instinctively closed around the hilt of her blade, fingers tightening only to ease up when she realized it wasn’t an enemy, but an NPC. The woman barreled toward her in a panic, her breath ragged, her face streaked with tears. “Pl-please!” she gasped, desperation spilling into every syllable. “I’ve been trying to find someone to help me all day! My child!” she choked back a sob, struggling to compose herself, but the words came tumbling out anyway. “She was playing in the mountain caverns with her friend I told her not to, but she wouldn’t listen!” Kisodeth rolled her neck, watching her with a steady, unreadable stare. The woman, Choshi, according to her faintly glowing NPC tag was hysterical, frantic, a mess of emotion as she grabbed at Kisodeth’s arm. “Her friend just came back and told me they were attacked by monsters! The beast is still in there with her! Please, I don’t know how long my Koko can last in a place like that!” She was practically sobbing, her entire body trembling. Kisodeth sighed through her nose, glancing toward the distant cavern entrances. Monsters. That meant experience. She could already feel the weight of tier 2 gear on her shoulders, the rush of new power in her strikes. And so, with a final crack of her knuckles, she turned back to the desperate woman and nodded. “Where?” WC: 346 Spoiler Name: Kisodeth True Tier: 1 Level: 10 Paragon Level: 0 HP: 200/200 EN: 38/38 Stats: Damage: 10 Mitigation: 42 Accuracy: 2 Stealth Rating: -3 QTY: 2 Equipped Gear: Weapon/Armor/Trinket: - Winter's Discontent Armor/Trinket: - Death's Embrace Shield/Armor/Trinket: - Frozen Rose Combat Mastery: - Combat Mastery: Accuracy R2 Combat Shift: - Familiar Skill: - Custom Skill: - Skills: - Heavy Armor R3 - Quick Change - Straight Sword R4 Edited March 5 by Kisodeth
Kisodeth 0 Posted March 3 Author #2 Share Posted March 3 Kisodeth let the silence stretch for a moment, letting Choshi’s sobs settle into the evening air. The NPC’s hands were still trembling, clutching at the fabric of her own dress as if trying to physically hold herself together. Then, with a measured breath, Kisodeth gave her answer. “Yeah, fine. I’ll get the kid.” The change in Choshi was instant. Her red-rimmed eyes went wide, her breath hitched, and within seconds, her face blossomed into overwhelming relief. “R-really? You will?” she gasped, hands pressed to her chest as if she couldn’t believe what she’d just heard. “Thank you! Thank you so much, you have no idea how grateful I am!” Kisodeth rubbed the back of her neck, expression unreadable. Choshi was still talking, voice thick with gratitude and lingering panic. “Your e-efforts won’t go to waste, I swear!” she stammered, blinking through the last of her tears. “I’ll have something for you when you get back, I promise!” A notification pinged softly in Kisodeth’s HUD. Quest Accepted: <<Let there be Light>> She glanced at the minimap, where a fresh marker now glowed deep in the mountains beyond Urbus. But before she took her first step, she cast one last look at Choshi. WC:
Kisodeth 0 Posted March 3 Author #3 Share Posted March 3 What else do I need to know?” she asked, crossing her arms. “How long’s the kid been in there? What kind of monsters are we dealing with?” Choshi visibly swallowed, rubbing her hands together. “I…I don’t know exactly what it was. Koko’s friend was too scared to say much. Just that they were attacked out of nowhere, and they barely got away… but Koko wasn’t fast enough.” Kisodeth clicked her tongue. That meant no guarantees on what she’d be facing. “Fine. One more thing…” she tilted her head, voice casual, but sharp. “What’s this ‘something’ you’re offering me for my trouble?” Choshi blinked. For a split second, the NPC almost looked caught off guard like she hadn’t expected a player to ask for details. Then she nodded hurriedly, forcing another weak smile. “I have a few things left from my husband… he was an adventurer, long ago. If you bring Koko back safe, you can have them.” Kisodeth took a moment, letting Choshi’s words hang in the air as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other. An adventurer’s spoils, huh? Could be junk. Could be something worth her time. Either way, she’d already decided this wasn’t just about the payout. Her gaze flicked past Choshi, taking in Urbus with fresh eyes. The town had a certain rugged charm, built from weathered stone and ironwood, its streets bustling with the slow, steady rhythm of players and NPCs alike. Smithies hammered away at their forges, merchants peddled wares from carts lined with furs and smoked meats, and a faint scent of spiced cider clung to the cooling evening air. It had a good vibe. A place where one could carve out something permanent, if the Col ever flowed steady enough. But that was a thought for later. Right now, there was a kid trapped in a cave with something nasty. Kisodeth turned her attention back to Choshi, scanning her for any last hints of useful information. The woman’s hands were still trembling slightly, but the hysteria had settled into something closer to desperate hope. “Alright. I’ll handle it,” she said, slipping her hands into her pockets. “But first, I need intel.” Before Choshi could sputter out another round of gratitude, Kisodeth was already pivoting toward the heart of Urbus. No way she was diving into some monster’s den blind. Someone in town had to know what lurked in those caves; hunters, traders, anyone who’d been near them long enough to have a story. She passed through the crowded thoroughfare, scanning for likely sources. A few NPCs exchanged glances as she strode past, her skeletal war paint still cracked from the day before, giving her the look of something half-dead and grinning. At the very least, she’d be memorable. A grizzled old blacksmith leaned against his forge, wiping soot from his arms; a group of young players loitered near the quest board, swapping stories about their latest dungeon run. Someone in this town knew something. WC:
Kisodeth 0 Posted March 3 Author #4 Share Posted March 3 Kisodeth moved through Urbus with purpose, weaving between carts and bustling groups of players, her ears tuned for anything useful. The first info broker she found was a rat-faced player loitering near a weapons stall, arms crossed over his chest, eyes shifty but sharp. He grinned when she approached, already smelling a deal. “Caves? Oh yeah, I’ve heard a thing or two,” he said, rubbing his fingers together in the universal gesture for payment. Kisodeth cocked a brow. Not happening. Instead, she leaned in just enough to make the guy uncomfortable, letting the looming aura of her skeletal war paint do the work. “You gonna be useful or am I finding someone who won’t waste my time?” The rat-faced player hesitated before shrugging. “Fine, fine. Just trying to make a living.” He told her what he knew; low light, tough visibility, some players struggling to land hits unless they had precision skills or boosted perception. He mentioned a few groups that had wiped trying to navigate in the dark. But not everyone had a problem. That meant either certain gear helped, or some players were just naturally sharper in dim conditions. Kisodeth filed the information away, then moved on. A tall woman in faded leather armor, looking like she’d spent too much time in the caves herself, mentioned something else: “Most folks are too busy worrying about the dark to notice the way the walls shift.” Kisodeth stilled. “Shift?” The woman nodded. “Yeah. Like, passages aren’t always where you think they are. You’ll take one route in, swear you’re going the same way back, and suddenly the tunnel’s different. Had a party get split up over that once. They were lucky to make it out.” That was more concerning than bad lighting. After a few more stops, Kisodeth had enough of a picture to form a plan. Darkness? Fine, she’d manage. Unstable cave system? That was going to be the real pain in the ass. She needed to prepare, which meant gear shopping before heading out. With a final glance toward the looming mountains in the distance, Kisodeth smirked. “Koko, sit tight. I’m coming.” WC:
Kisodeth 0 Posted March 3 Author #5 Share Posted March 3 Kisodeth moved with steady purpose, her eyes flicking between the map tracker and the terrain ahead. Urbus had already shrunk into the distance, leaving her surrounded by rolling hills and rough, uneven paths. The sun was sinking low, casting long shadows…good timing. Nightfall meant fewer players clogging up the area, less competition for kills. She wasn’t looking for a fight. But if something got in her way? She’d clear it out. A thick, chittering hum drew her attention first. Up ahead, a cluster of giant ants skittered across the path, their glossy black carapaces gleaming in the fading sunlight. Their mandibles snapped at the air, restless and hungry. Kisodeth tightened her grip on Winter’s Discontent. “Tch. Should’ve known I’d run into bugs first.” With a quick dash forward, she struck the nearest ant clean through the thorax, twisting her sword before yanking it free. Dark ichor sprayed across the dirt as the creature collapsed, its legs twitching. The rest screeched in unison, turning on her. “Fine, fine, let’s get this over with.” Kisodeth sidestepped a lunging mandible, flipping Death’s Embrace into a reverse grip. With a brutal backswing, she sliced off another ant’s legs, sending it sprawling. She moved fast, striking, pivoting, dodging. The fight ended in less than a minute. And she kept moving. The further she trekked, the thicker the wilderness became. The occasional buzz overhead kept her wary…Windwasps. Two-foot-long bastards with stingers sharp enough to pierce armor. Luckily, they didn’t seem to notice her yet. She stayed close to the rockier trails, avoiding the open fields where Wild Oxen grazed. She wasn’t interested in getting flattened by a territorial bull tonight. But then she saw them, figures shifting in the trees. Not insects. Not animals. Goblins. Small, green-skinned, barely three feet tall but moving in a pack of five. Daggers and spears in hand. They were watching her. Sizing her up. Kisodeth rolled her shoulders, exhaling through her nose. “If you’re gonna try me, make it worth my time.” The largest goblin snarled something in its guttural tongue an order. The group fanned out, one creeping low to the left, another circling to her right. She grinned. They thought she’d be easy prey. “You’re about to learn the hard way.” Kisodeth readied her blade. WC:
Kisodeth 0 Posted March 4 Author #6 Share Posted March 4 The goblins struck first. The one on the left lunged with a jagged dagger, aiming low; a feint. Kisodeth caught the movement in the corner of her eye, but she didn’t fall for it. Instead of dodging back, she stepped into the attack, twisting Winters Discontent in a reverse grip and slamming the pommel into the goblin’s wrist. Bone crunched. The dagger spun from its fingers. Her knee snapped up…right into its face. The goblin reeled back, black blood spurting from its broken nose. It barely had time to cry out before she drove Winter’s Discontent straight through its throat, the steel flashing in the twilight. A single shudder ran through its body before it slumped lifeless to the dirt, an explosion of pixels. One down. Four to go. The second goblin had already closed the gap, spear thrusting forward. Kisodeth twisted sideways, the tip barely grazing her ribs as she dropped low. Her free hand hit the ground, and she kicked out, sweeping the goblin’s legs from under it. It crashed onto its back with a startled grunt. Before it could rise, she drove her boot down hard onto its chest. “Stay down.” The goblin wheezed and thrashed, its spear hand twitching and she stomped again. Something cracked beneath her heel. Two down. But the others weren’t waiting. The third and fourth goblins came at her in sync. The first slashed high, while the other tried to stab at her side. A coordinated attack. Smart. Didn’t matter. Kisodeth ducked under the high slash, twisting so the second goblin’s blade scraped off her shoulder guard instead of finding flesh. The impact stung, but it wasn’t deep, she could live with it. Her counter was brutal. She twisted like a coiled viper, her blades flashing. Winter’s Discontent carved through the first goblin’s gut, spilling its insides onto the dirt before it even registered what had happened. The second one hesitated. Kisodeth didn’t. She slammed her forehead into its face, sending it staggering. Before it could recover, she flipped her weapon into an underhand grip and drove it straight up beneath its chin. The goblin twitched. A wet, gargled sound came from its throat…then silence. Three. Four. Gone. Only the last one remained. The biggest goblin. The leader. It snarled, eyes darting between her and its fallen comrades. It clutched a rusted hatchet in one hand, its knuckles turning white around the grip. “You should run.” Kisodeth smirked, rolling her shoulders. “Won’t make a difference, but it’d be more fun for me.” The goblin roared. It charged. And Kisodeth met it halfway. Their weapons clashed in steel screaming against rusted iron. The goblin was fast, stronger than the others, swinging with wild, reckless power. It nearly clipped her arm, but she caught the edge with Winters Discontent, parrying it just enough to avoid losing a limb. But that left her open. The goblin drove a knee into her stomach.Kisodeth grunted, staggering back. Not enough to take her down, but enough to piss her off. “Alright. My turn.” She feinted left. The goblin took the bait, raising its hatchet to block. But she wasn’t aiming for its weapon. Her knee came up hard, smashing into its gut. As it doubled over, she twisted, stepping behind it. And dragged Winter’s Discontent clean across its throat. The goblin gurgled, clutching its slit throat, staggering. It tried to turn, tried to fight. But Kisodeth was already behind it. One brutal slash and its head tumbled from its shoulders. The battle was over. Kisodeth rolled her neck, flicking the blood from her blades before sheathing them. Her breath was steady. A few small cuts, no worse for ware but she’d won. And without a second glance, she continued toward the caverns. WC:

The low-level light barely scraped the edges of her vision, turning the jagged walls into shifting silhouettes. The deeper she went, the thicker the air became damp, cool, carrying the earthy scent of moss and something more acrid beneath. Kisodeth clicked her tongue and ran a hand along the rough stone, using it to anchor her path. Each step sent the quiet echo of her boots bouncing off the walls, swallowed by the overwhelming silence. “Koko!” Her voice carried forward, but there was no answer. Only the lingering quiet…too still, too expectant. A sudden rustling pricked at her senses. She stopped. From above, a flutter of wings…dozens, maybe more. Kisodeth tilted her chin up, eyes narrowing. A swarm of small bats clung to the cavern ceiling. Their bodies were barely visible, lost against the shadows, but she could feel their presence…watching. Waiting. Their tiny, gleaming eyes blinked in unison. Her fingers twitched over the hilt of her sword. She wasn’t about to waste energy swinging blindly if they weren’t a threat. But that didn’t mean she trusted them. “Yeah, yeah, I see you,” she muttered under her breath. The bats didn’t move. Kisodeth exhaled sharply, keeping her pace steady as she continued forward. The stone beneath her feet sloped downward, uneven with loose gravel. Farther ahead, she spotted a break in the cavern, an open space where stalactites loomed from above, some nearly touching their twin spires rising from the ground. A crossroads. She slowed, straining her ears. Still no signs of movement. No cries for help. But the air here felt different. Tighter. Like something was waiting. Kisodeth adjusted her grip on her sword and stepped forward. WC: 290 Edited March 4 by Kisodeth
Kisodeth 0 Posted March 4 Author #9 Share Posted March 4 (edited) The further Kisodeth ventured, the more the cavern seemed to twist in on itself the walls narrowing, the passage warping just beyond the reach of her vision. A trick of the light? Or something worse? The dim glow of phosphorescent fungi clinging to the stone cast wavering, ghostly shapes across her path, shifting as if they were moving just beyond her perception. Then, the sound. A low, rhythmic murmur…chanting. Kisodeth’s steps slowed, her muscles coiling with tension. It wasn’t the wind. It wasn’t the cave breathing. It was voices. Layered. Muted. Coming from one of the tunnels ahead. Her grip on Winter’s Discontent tightened, fingers pressing into the worn hilt. “Koko!” she called again, voice sharp, cutting through the stillness. No response. Not even an echo. A shiver ran down her spine. The cave swallowed her voice like it never existed. She came to a halt, shifting her weight onto her back foot. Something was wrong. With a flick of her wrist, she pulled up her map HUD, the soft blue glow momentarily lighting her face. The quest marker still pointed deeper in, past the junction where the chanting now lingered, a whispering pulse in the dark. Kisodeth exhaled slowly. She wasn’t afraid of the dark. She wasn’t afraid of whatever was waiting. But she sure as hell wasn’t walking in blind. Taking a steadying breath, she crouched low and listened, trying to make out the voices. Kisodeth 0 Posted March 4 Author #10 Share Posted March 4 (edited) The chanting grew louder, a low, guttural drone that seemed to seep from the walls themselves. The further Kisodeth pressed on, the heavier the air became damp, stale, tinged with something… foul. The kind of smell that clung to deep places left undisturbed for far too long. Her fingers scraped against the rough stone as she guided herself through the dark, her other hand resting on Winter’s Discontent, ready to draw. “Where the hell is that kid at? Koko!” Her voice cut through the cavern, but still no answer. But something else changed. The chanting hitched. A brief stutter, like the voices had noticed her, acknowledged her presence then carried on. Kisodeth slowed, narrowing her eyes. Not the reaction of mindless mobs. This was different. A ritual? A gathering? A trap? She edged forward, body low, every footstep deliberate. The passage opened into a wider chamber, the glow of pale green torches casting flickering shadows across jagged stone pillars and uneven ground. And then she saw them. A circle of figures. Goblins. At least a dozen. Their sickly green skin slick with sweat, their bodies hunched and swaying as they chanted, surrounding a crude stone altar. Symbols carved into the rock pulsed faintly in the dim firelight. But there was no Koko. No sign of a child at all. Just a figure laid out on the altar. Bound. Struggling weakly. And standing over them, a goblin shaman twice as large as the others, draped in ragged furs, holding a wicked, jagged dagger. Kisodeth’s eyes darkened. Kisodeth 0 Posted March 4 Author #11 Share Posted March 4 (edited) Kisodeth’s grip tightened on her sword as her eyes darted across the chamber, taking in every detail—three children, bound and gagged, wide-eyed with terror, kneeling at the base of the altar. Koko among them. “Koko?” “Yes!? Help!” That was all she needed. Her jaw clenched, stomach twisting. There was something about this scene—the way the goblins leered, drooled, muttered their wretched incantations that made her blood run cold. She was going to butcher them. She moved. A sprint. A blur. Winter’s Discontent left its sheath in a vicious, sweeping arc. The nearest goblin barely had time to register the attack before its head separated from its shoulders, body crumpling like discarded trash. The chanting broke. The goblins hesitated just for a second. But Kisodeth didn’t. She tore through the next, blade carving clean through its chest. A third raised a rusted dagger, too slow. She twisted, brought her knee up into its gut, sent it sprawling. The goblin shaman snarled, raising its staff, its voice twisting into something foul, ancient. The air itself seemed to shudder, a sickly green glow forming at the tip of the staff. Kisodeth didn’t give a damn. She was already on it. A lunge, her foot landed on the altar, pushing off. She launched herself into the air. A flash of steel. A brutal, downward swing. The shaman’s staff snapped in two. The spell collapsed into flickering embers. And before the creature could screech in rage…Her sword drove straight through its chest. The shaman jerked, fingers clawing uselessly at the blade impaling it, before Kisodeth ripped it free. The remaining goblins panicked. Some turned to flee, she cut them down before they took three steps. The rest tried to fight. They died faster. Silence fell over the cavern. Kisodeth exhaled sharply, heart hammering. Her boots crunched over bloodied stone as she stepped toward the altar, sword still dripping. She knelt, cutting Koko’s bindings with a single stroke. “You alright?” The kid nodded frantically, trembling. Kisodeth 0 Posted March 4 Author #12 Share Posted March 4 Koko flinched, her wide eyes locked onto Kisodeth’s face. Or rather, the ghastly warpaint she wore. The smeared white, the jagged black streaks, the hollow, grinning skull, it was the face of a monster. Kisodeth sighed inwardly. Yeah. This is why I’ll never have kids. She knelt, keeping her movements slow, controlled. “Hey,” she murmured, voice softer than before. “I’m not gonna hurt you, kid.” Koko didn’t answer. She just stared, frozen. Kisodeth’s jaw shifted. This wouldn’t do. Without another word, she lifted a hand, dragging her fingers down her cheek. The warpaint smudged, revealing the warm tan of her skin beneath. “See?” she said, shifting the blade to her other hand. “Just like you, niña.” Koko’s lips parted slightly. Her small fingers reached up, hesitating, before touching the spot where the paint had smeared. “…You’re not a monster?” Kisodeth huffed. “Nah. Just dress like one.” The kid sniffled, nodding, visibly relaxing. Kisodeth held out her hand. “Vámonos, mi amor. We’re getting out of here.” Koko took it, small fingers clutching tight. Kisodeth rose, scanning the cavern entrance. The way back wasn’t going to be easy. If goblins had gotten this far, there were bound to be more lurking between them and the surface. She rolled her shoulders, free hand gripping her sword. No way in hell was she letting anything else touch this kid. “Stay close,” she murmured, eyes narrowing into the darkness. Then, with Koko clutching her side, she started for the exit. WC:

She turned her head, brows furrowed only to find Koko gazing toward a cluster of softly glowing flowers nestled along the cavern wall. They pulsed with a faint, ghostly blue light, casting eerie shadows against the rough stone. “¿Qué pasa?” Kisodeth asked, following the girl’s gaze. Koko pointed, her voice quiet but insistent. “Those… Mama says flowers like that are special.” Kisodeth exhaled sharply. A gathering node? With a practiced flick, she opened her inventory HUD and checked the icon hovering near the plant. Bioluminescent Bloom. Possible alchemy or crafting use. Could be worth something. She crouched, running her gloved fingers along the delicate petals before plucking a few, watching as they flickered dimly in her palm before tucking them away in her inventory. Straightening up, she gave Koko a dry smirk. “We shouldn’t be procrastinating, niña.” Koko giggled softly, holding tight to her hand. She wasn’t shaking anymore. If anything, she seemed… calmer. Feeling safer. Kisodeth exhaled through her nose, rolling her shoulders before turning her focus back toward the cavern’s entrance. They still had a ways to go. And she hadn’t forgotten about that giant bat ambush from earlier. She slowed her pace, adjusting her grip on her blade. “Careful here…” The echo of flapping wings sent a warning through the air. Kisodeth 0 Posted March 4 Author #14 Share Posted March 4 (edited) The shriek came first, a high-pitched, bone-rattling scream that made Koko yelp and clutch Kisodeth’s hand tighter. Then the shadow moved. From the cavern ceiling, the Giant Bat dropped like a stone, wings flaring wide as it launched itself toward them in a blur of fangs and claws. Kisodeth’s instincts screamed, but her priority wasn’t herself. “Go! Hide behind that rock!” she barked, shoving Koko toward a jagged outcrop near the entrance. The girl didn’t hesitate scrambling away, ducking low just as the monster’s talons raked toward them. It slammed into Kisodeth instead, its momentum driving her backward. She gritted her teeth as the impact sent her boots skidding against the cavern floor but she barely felt it. Her armor, Death’s Embrace, absorbed the brunt of the attack, the hit registering as a single point of damage in her HUD. Could’ve been worse. Kisodeth snarled, twisting her grip on her blade. The bat flapped backward, circling above, wings stirring up dust as it prepared for another dive. She swung but the monster was too quick, jerking away at the last second, her blade whistling through empty air. “Tch—!” Missed. Kisodeth rolled her shoulders, steadying her stance. The bat was smarter than the fodder mobs from earlier. It had speed and precision. Didn’t matter. Her lips curled back into a sharp smirk, teeth flashing. “Alright, you ugly bastard,” she murmured, lifting her sword. “Let’s dance.” The bat screeched, wings snapping wide coming around for another bomb dive strike. Kisodeth’s instincts screamed at her to move, and she twisted aside, swinging Winter’s Discontent in a vicious counter-strike. But the bat was fast. Faster than she expected. The beast’s wings snapped back mid-dive, sending it careening to the side just as her blade carved through where it had been an instant before. A clean miss. Her sword whistled through nothing but stale cavern air. “Tch—slippery bastard.” Before she could fully reset her stance, the bat’s talons lashed out in retaliation, a blur of claws seeking flesh. Kisodeth barely had time to react, her body moving on pure battle-honed instinct as she twisted again, dropping low. The attack missed completely. Its claws raked the air just inches from her head, flapping wildly as it overextended. For a moment, both combatants stood frozen in place. Kisodeth’s eye twitched. She flicked her gaze to the bat, who hovered midair, wings beating, head cocked like it was equally unimpressed. She exhaled through her nose. “…We suck.” The bat screeched, almost offended. Kisodeth 0 Posted March 4 Author #16 Share Posted March 4 (edited) As the Giant Bat lunged for another strike, Kisodeth adjusted her grip on Winter’s Discontent, watching the way its wings beat, predicting its movement this time. No more flailing in the dark. She was done playing. Then, from behind the rock. “You can do it!” Koko’s tiny voice rang out, filled with hope and admiration. Kisodeth’s chest tightened for just a second. She didn’t do kids, never had the patience, never saw herself as the type. But the way Koko’s eyes shined, the way that single little cheer cut through the dark, something about it hit different. A slow, lopsided grin spread across her face, teeth flashing in the cavern gloom. “Yeah?” she muttered under her breath. “Then watch this.” The Giant Bat screeched and dove again, a blur of leathery wings and gnashing fangs but this time Kisodeth was ready. Her body moved on instinct, her reflexes razor-sharp. The second it got close, she feinted left, then pivoted hard, dropping low. Her blade flashed.A perfect, calculated upward arc carved through the bat’s body, the steel singing as it connected. A critical hit. The bat shrieked, pixels bursting from the wound like shattering glass. It tried to pull back too late. Kisodeth drove forward, her sword humming with a finishing strike, and with one final, brutal slash, she cut straight through. The Giant Bat exploded into data, shards of light dissolving into the air, leaving only the quiet hum of the cavern behind. A brief pause. “Wooooah!!” Koko leapt out from behind the rock, clapping excitedly. “That was so cool! You’re so strong!” Kisodeth huffed out a breath, rolling her shoulders as she flicked her blade clean before sheathing it. She turned, resting a hand on her hip as she arched a brow down at the kid. “Damn right,” she said with a smirk. Then she ruffled Koko’s hair, already guiding her toward the exit. “Alright, let’s get the hell outta here before something else shows up, yeah?” WC: 328 Spoiler Kisodeth | HP: 199/200 | EN: 26/38 | DMG: 10 | MIT:42 | ACC:2 | PROSP:1 | QTY: 2 DMG: 10*10=100 (-10 En,+1 Regen) BD: 10+2-1=11 Strike! Kisodeth 0 Posted March 4 Author #17 Share Posted March 4 As they made their way out of the cavern, Kisodeth kept a firm grip on Koko’s small hand, guiding her over the uneven rocks and loose gravel. The kid was light on her feet, but every now and then, she’d stumble, and Kisodeth would give a small, steadying tug to keep her upright. For a while, the only sounds were their footsteps and the occasional distant drip of water from the stalactites above. “Mama’s gonna be so mad, huh?” Koko mumbled, kicking a stray pebble. Kisodeth let out a low chuckle. “Oh, yeah. Livid.” Koko pouted. “I didn’t mean to! It was supposed to be just a game… I didn’t think we’d actually get attacked. Kisodeth hummed, side-eyeing the girl. “Yeah, well. Monsters don’t give a damn about what you meant to do.” The kid sighed dramatically. “Guess I’m never gonna be allowed outside again.” “Maybe for, like… a week,” Kisodeth teased. “After that, your mom’ll start remembering what a pain in the ass it is to keep a kid cooped up. Trust me.” Koko snorted at that, a tiny giggle slipping out before she quickly tried to cover it up. Kisodeth smirked, nudging the girl with her elbow. “Hey, you’re alive. That’s what matters. And now? You got a story.” Koko tilted her head, curious. “A story?” “Hell yeah.” Kisodeth gestured dramatically. “One day, when you’re older, you’ll be sitting around a campfire or something, and you’ll go, ‘Lemme tell you about the time I got snatched by goblins, and this super badass, super scary warrior came in and…shhk!’” She mimed slicing through an enemy with an invisible sword. Koko’s eyes widened, grinning now. “And I’ll say, ‘She was really strong and wore all this scary skeleton war paint!’” Kisodeth barked a laugh. “Exactly.” Koko nodded, then paused, squinting up at Kisodeth. “But, um… you’re not really that scary.” Kisodeth blinked. “What?” Koko gave a tiny, knowing smirk. “You’re kinda nice.” Kisodeth scoffed, pulling her hand away just long enough to ruffle the kid’s hair again. “Don’t go spreading lies, kid. I got a reputation.” Koko just giggled, sticking out her tongue playfully. As they finally reached the mouth of the cave, Kisodeth took a deep breath, feeling the cool air hit her skin. The sky outside was darkening, the last hints of sunlight fading behind the mountains. “Alright,” she said, cracking her neck. “Let’s get you back home before your mom loses her damn mind.” WC:
Kisodeth 0 Posted March 4 Author #18 Share Posted March 4 (edited) As Kisodeth and Koko stepped into Urbus, the town’s evening lanterns flickered to life, casting a warm, golden glow over the cobbled streets. The second they crossed the threshold, Koko’s eyes lit up. “Mama!” she cried, her small legs propelling her forward. Across the square, Choshi spun at the sound of her daughter’s voice. The worry that had been etched into her face all day melted into sheer relief as Koko threw herself into her arms. “I’m sorry, Mama!” Koko wailed, clinging to her waist. The little girl buried her face in her mother’s tunic, her shoulders shaking. “I-I won’t get into trouble again, I-I promise!” Choshi exhaled a deep, unsteady breath, her arms tightening around her child. “Oh, sweetie,” she murmured, running a hand gently through Koko’s hair, fingertips soothing against her scalp. “I know you didn’t mean for it to happen… You’re safe. That’s all that matters.” She held Koko for a few moments longer, swaying slightly, as if reassuring herself that this was real. Finally, she looked up, her tear-streaked face breaking into a grateful smile as her eyes met Kisodeth’s. “Thank you,” she said, voice thick with emotion. “I… I can’t even begin to explain how much this means to me. How much you’ve done for us. I am forever in your debt.” Kisodeth shifted her weight, glancing away for just a second. She’d heard those words before; debt, gratitude but somehow, from this woman, in this moment, it felt different. Choshi chuckled, sniffling as she wiped her face. She turned to Koko, gently tugging on the girl’s cheeks, eliciting a small giggle. Then, she reached into the folds of her dress, pulling out a small, well-worn pouch. “I know it’s not much,” she admitted, pressing it into Kisodeth’s hands, her fingers lingering for a moment in silent thanks. “But please, take it. It’s some money I scraped together… and a little something extra.” Kisodeth arched a brow, her calloused fingers testing the weight of the pouch before tucking it away. “Appreciate it.” Choshi sighed, looking down at Koko with a mixture of love and exasperation. “And speaking of appreciation…what do we say?” Koko pulled away from her mother’s embrace, turning to beam up at Kisodeth. “Thank you for saving me!” she chirped, voice bright and full of sincerity. The words triggered the system notification. A soft chime rang in Kisodeth’s ears as the quest completion screen flashed across her HUD, listing the rewards now transferred to her inventory. But for a brief second, she didn’t acknowledge it. She just watched Koko, her small, grateful face, the way she bounced on her feet like the weight of her ordeal had already begun to fade. Resilient. Kisodeth smirked. “Try not to get snatched by goblins again, yeah?” Koko giggled, rocking on her heels. “I’ll try!” With that, Kisodeth turned on her heel, rolling her shoulders as she strolled away. Kisodeth 0 Posted March 5 Author #19 Share Posted March 5 The player-run tavern in Urbus was alive with laughter, clinking tankards, and the low hum of conversation. Golden lanterns cast a warm glow over the rough-hewn wooden tables, while the scent of meat, aromatic bread, and something sweetly spiced curled in the air. The place had a good vibe a haven for players looking to relax, trade stories, and lose themselves in the illusion of normalcy. Kisodeth stepped through the door, rolling her shoulders as she took in the scene. After that long trek, the cold cave air still clung to her skin, and she was more than ready to wash it away with something strong and drown herself in a plate of hot food. She slid onto a stool at the bar, throwing a few Col onto the counter. “Shop specialties,” she said. “And whatever’s cold.” The bartender, a burly man with a scruffy beard and an NPC-like lack of curiosity, grunted in acknowledgment and set to work. A moment later, a frosted glass slid in front of her, condensation beading down the side. She lifted it to her lips, savoring the icy bite as it ran down her throat, cooling the lingering heat from battle. Kisodeth turned slightly in her seat, keeping her back against the bar as her sharp eyes scanned the room. Most of the players were unwinding, some gambling, others boasting about their latest loot hauls. But her focus honed in on the quieter corners, where murmured voices drifted just beneath the surface of tavern noise. And there it was. A whisper. “Another one got challenged.” Kisodeth’s fingers drummed against her glass. The silent, cloaked players. The ones who moved like ghosts through the city, never speaking, only extending their chilling invitations to battle. She’d been hearing about them more and more duelists who fought with an eerie precision, ruthless and efficient. Some players came back with tales of narrow victories. Others? They didn’t come back at all. She took another sip, pretending not to listen as a group of mid-level players exchanged uneasy glances near the corner table. “Did you see them?” one asked. A swordswoman with a twin-bladed setup nodded, voice low. “Yeah. Outside the west gate. They don’t talk, don’t emote. Just send the duel request, and if you accept…” She shook her head. “They don’t hold back.” Kisodeth’s turned back to the bartender, Skeletal warpaint smudged to hell. “Gracias…” WC:
Kisodeth 0 Posted March 5 Author #20 Share Posted March 5 The meal was hearty, filling, and exactly what she needed. A thick-cut slab of roasted meat, seasoned potatoes, and a crusty roll that soaked up the last of the gravy. Kisodeth ate with slow, deliberate movements, letting her body recover as she absentmindedly scrolled through her menu. With the quest completed, she finally had enough experience to break into Tier 2. The upgrade felt tangible, like a weight lifting off her shoulders new stat points, better scaling on her damage, and access to stronger equipment. She adjusted her stats with careful consideration, prioritizing agility and strength while keeping a solid balance for survivability. By the time she finished her meal, she felt the tension in her body start to unwind, her hunger sated, exhaustion settling in. But she wasn’t quite ready to call it a night. With a flick of her wrist, she tossed a few extra Col onto the counter and ordered one more drink. The cool bitterness washed down smoothly, a satisfying contrast to the warmth of the tavern. As she drank, her mind drifted between two options. Stay in Urbus; a change of pace, a chance to explore the city more. Or head back to the first floor, where she had her usual spot to rest and regroup. She wasn’t sentimental about places, but there was something about Urbus. It had a different energy than the starter town, grittier, more dangerous, but alive. Kisodeth craned her neck as she stood, stretching slightly before knocking back the last of her drink. Then, with a lazy flick of her wrist, she turned to the bartender. “Know a cheap inn around here?” she asked, her tone casual but expectant. The bartender grunted, wiping down the counter before jerking his head toward the door. “The Rusted Lantern. Down the street, past the blacksmith’s. Nothing fancy, but it’ll do.” Kisodeth smirked, rolling her shoulders as she swiped up her gear. “Perfect.” WC:
