Kindling 0 Posted March 19 #1 Share Posted March 19 (edited) Bubbling seas of magma, pockets where it jetted out sometimes fifteen feet into the air, the entire ground clinging to the feet of those who walked onto it from the tar-like crust that formed atop the streams and rivers of the molten material below. What was not to love about the wonderful stretches of Floor Nine? This was a destination hot spot, a place of fiery passion just outside the reaches of Yalon Village on this floor. Well, okay. Maybe the heat wasn't to die for. Or the Fauna, made of twisting pillars of fire or having backs of dark rock that ebbed with the life blood of the earth below. Or even really the flora, often being more dangerous to stand near and breathe in the fumes of than to even touch. Other than those things, what was not to love? It wasn't as bad as it was prior to the slaying of the Hydra that defended this floor, and poured from its body, the ocean of liquid metal and elements. What brave rangers those must have been, to take on and defeat the creature with their limited gear and understanding of the world by then. The assortment of colors and personalities they must have came in, walking away from it likely with a new sense of camaraderie and inside jokes. Today would hopefully be no different. In those stretches, there was something of a clearing, or perhaps it was better described as a crater. A depression within the ground, flanked on all sides by spines and pillars to form a ridge around the nearly perfect hole in the center. The soot and ash creating perfectly parallel lines that converged on the center from those steep 'walls'. It was a perfect pit, and predictably, the turn out for such an arena was lower than normal. Those who were there would need to peek out over the side of the ridge, sitting on the side of it, or laying down to look down. Kindling had some he had handed cold water cannisters to, offering them some col to hand it out to anyone present who looked like they were about to fall over. The air shimmering with the heat, waving dramatically. Any bit of moisture that escaped the bodies of people or container sizzled and immediately disappeared. Leaving nothing but a few bubbles as the heat kidnapped it, and the sight of mist was choked as quickly as it formed. Kindling hoped Minako was staying warm on floor 4. She deserved that much comfort, with her mittens, and cute scarf... There he was as well, that host. Sitting on the edge of the ridge, looking down into the pit. Wishing to all the heavens that he had at a minimum, brought a fan with him. If the combatants of the day could handle it, than he could too. He'd make it through the hours - with discipline. They would learn to respect the lengths he went to. His brows furrowed, gloved hand going up to wipe the sweat from his forehead, and push his mass of redhair back atop his head. Taking a deep breath, it was time to get this show on the road. "Ladies and Gentlemen, Volcanoes and Craters, Lava, Magma, and Phoenixes! Today, you might be most aware of - the weather!" Came the half joke, trying to keep things light, for his own sanity. "It's not going anywhere, and neither are we. Instead, it will be incorporated into today's fights. Those in attendance, and those coming up next, make sure to stay hydrated. My first aid skill can only do so very much for you. It cannot stop you from the fluid in your body evaporating, or the feeling of parchment in your throat." God how he wished that wasn't true. He'd be spamming the skill on himself at this very moment to get rid of those very symptoms. "Drink your water, and prepare to meet your first Combatant; He's new to the scene, he's taking over for Mina. The stats didn't agree with him last week, but hopefully this floor brings the fire back into his eyes - IT'S BOREAS!" Giving the first introduced a second to slide down into the pit without getting too dirty with all the ash. "And on the other side, a man whose record could be volatile, who fights hard no matter the odds, who is looking for glory as much as anyone else here, a dragon who might feel at home - IT'S VIGILON!" Another deep breath was taken. Shouting in this heat made his cheat feel hollow, the exertion alone through the heavy, oppressive air was tougher than he thought. "Take your stances, and speak to each other quickly. So that both of you can get out of here as fast as possible," And myself, for that matter - Came the thought of the host. Lifting his new spear, Pluto's Lament, into the air. The countdown beginning then. . Welcome to the Sixth week of Clash of Blades - ICE AND FIRE! For this fight, and all fights hosted by @Kindling - you only need to worry about the Fire side of that. In this week, you will be subject to the Heatstroke Debuff - A permanent status effect that causes you to take 5 unmitigable damage for every multiple of 5 missing from your total energy. IE: If your max is 38 Energy, you will begin taking damage at 33, 28, etc. This damage will be applied at the same time as your actions regardless of what those actions are. They will also account for current energy before actions that regenerate energy like Rest. When missing 30 total Energy from your max energy, that number doubles to 10 Damage. Make sure to watch those Energy bars! Spoiler Please remember to LINK your Spreadsheet, and triple check that all your stats are correct. Failure to do so before the actual combat begins will result in a loss by default. Going forward, we will be taking a much more hardline stance on this rule. The reason for that is out of respect for the time and energy of the hosts, and your fellow participants. TECH-A is disabled this week, and cannot be used. Boreas 0 Posted March 20 #2 Share Posted March 20 (edited) eefo Boreas sitting down in the locker room waiting for his fight to commence, he stared on the new poker chip he obtained through a new guild mate. He flicked it between his hands, then had it dance on the roof of his hand moving between one side to the other before moving it on top of his thumb to flick it into the air catching it attaching it to his jacket. "Title of Aspect is not easily earned... I just am uncertain how I can prove myself to earn it." after fully attaching his chip to his jacket he just let out a slight sigh before looking up to the exit out to the arena before cracking a slight smile "Doesn't matter right now, what does matter is getting my first victory." eefo He then stepped out into the arena and looked around him in the unbearably hot landscape, almost enough to make him sweat almost immediately. However he waved out to the crowd and bowed before them all before exclaiming out to them "Greetings my fellow players and combatants! While last week I failed to perform at peak performance for you all, I shall make up to you all tonight and bring you a battle worthy of your time!" he then looked forward awaiting his opponents arrival onto the arena so they may fight before their audience. Vigilon 0 Posted March 20 #3 Share Posted March 20 (edited) Who'd have thought that the can pack would turn out to be thirteen? 12 is reasonable, and thirteen would either trigger the superstitious or anger the OCDs. Vigilon couldn't care less, but his concern was that Cardinal might. Vigilon put on his sweatband and put on an amulet with glass in the center instead of a gem. His reasoning for this was because he put the Phoenix Soul inside the glass and socketed it in. It's protection should help in this manner. He then downed seven cans of energy drinks before he began making his way to the arena, drinking the other six along the way. When Vigilon's name was called for him to enter, he finished up the last can as he entered the arena, then crushed the can with his head. Vigilon wasn't prepared for the side effects of these energy drinks, but as of the moment he was too deep in their effects to care. It was only because of his Survival skill that he wasn't already feeling himself burn alive, but he also felt like the heat was a bit excessive. Were they fighting in a crater or a caldera? Were the energy drinks flammable and weakening survival, or was this a spot that bypassed survival entirely? Bah, who cares, let's just get to the bit already. With a much wilder look in his eyes, Vigilon looked to his opponent, and drew his weapon. Clearly, he felt a bit less inhibited and more willing to go apeshit in this current moment, probably due to the energy drinks hyping him up a bit too much. "We'll see about that," Vigilon remarked in regards to the mysterious unrecognized player's claim to the crowds. He then took position, a firm grip on his weapon as he prepared to go ballistic. "Alright, prepare yourself bitchboy, are you ready to meet God?" As though to make his point, the moment the signal to start was given, he rushed in with all due haste, giving his opponent little chance to react before bombarding him with a frenzied flurry of strikes and slashes, the last one having enough impact to send Boreas flying. Vigilon kept his gaze towards his opponent, the manic shrink and look in his eyes unfading. "Come on, comeoncomeoncomeoncomeon! Hit me! Try it, I dareya!" He spoke, readying himself to react. Boreas 0 Posted March 20 #4 Share Posted March 20 (edited) eefo Boreas blinked a few times seeing the state of Vigilon asking him if he was ready see god and his form of trash talk "You uh, alright my friend? Don't tell me you actually drank the energy drinks." Boreas sighed with a deep groan "Well, at least we know what will happen to a man if they consume far too much of that stuff." afterward Vigilon had dashed towards him and overwhelmed him pretty quickly with his flurry of blows. Being sent back, Boreas landed on his feet and charged forward with a sword art of his own, however either because of the absolute sugar or caffeine content of the drinks... or both, Vigilon was completely able to dodge Boreas' retaliatory strike against him. "Tsk." he let out as he jumped back and looked upon him. "Should've brought my other trinket with me this fight... well, lets make for plan B for now." he thought to himself, he prepared himself to be a bit more evasive now that his opponent is about as hyper active as a seventh grader in laser tag after their 5th Mello Yello. Vigilon 0 Posted March 20 #5 Share Posted March 20 (edited) Vigilon's hyper focus in this battle managed to help him notice the timing required to dodge his opponent's charge attack. "Predictable!" He remarked, followed by a chuckle. He then prepared himself to attack again. Boreas took evasive action, leaving Vigilon to chase after his opponent for almost half a minute, slowly gaining, and gaining, and gaining on him further. Realistically, one would suggest that Vigilon should be taking damage over what his heart's current BPM might be, but this was Sword Art Online and thus regardless of what the avatar went through, who was to say his real self's heartbeat was truly the same? Vigilon continued to chase down Boreas until his opponent was left with little choice to either block or deflect another set of rapid attacks. It was impressive how when cornered he was able to keep up. "Hahaha, you can't escape me forever!" Vigilon commented. "You can't dodge 'em all, it's only a matter of time!" He claimed as his onslaught continued. If Vigilon couldn't damage him immediately, why not give enough pressure to make him cave? Boreas 0 Posted March 20 #6 Share Posted March 20 (edited) eefo Boreas smirked as he went to plan B and prepared himself to evade the now hyperactive, he watched as he continued to deflect his attacks easily with his Rapier, and then waiting for a solid moment, Boreas took his opportunity as he spoke and pierced straight through Vigilon and slash him across his chest twice making him bleed now with the digital cuts now in his chest. Boreas kicked his chest onto the ground then looked down upon him "We will see whether or not that I can escape your predictable strikes good sir, but allow me to say as long as you continue to strike recklessly as you have, I am certain I can handle myself against you." afterwards Boreas moved his Rapier pointing towards Vigilon as sweat had begun to fall from his forehead from the heat of the arena "However, I must admit, the first strike was impressive. But, you're gonna have to try a bit harder than a surprise and continue to let reckless energy control your attacks." Vigilon 0 Posted Tuesday at 05:46 AM #7 Share Posted Tuesday at 05:46 AM Ah yes, Vigilon's luck, or lack thereof, had struck again. Knocked to the ground, paralyzed and bleeding, Vigilon was left at the mercy of his opponent as the floor itself seemed to sizzle and sear him like a rack of ribs at a barbeque. Vigilon simply stared at his opponent. One slip might cause one's downfall, but it might not either. There was always time for a miraculous comeback. He might not have one in words at the moment, but he was definitely thinking up a few strategies on the fly since he knew very well he couldn't move in this state. "I'm not the only thing that's cookin', This fight has only just begun." He pointed out. But the question right now was whether he should attack or cool himself off once he's free. There was risk and opportunity in both. He'd probably have to play it evasively for now...assuming his opponent's luck would wane as soon as Vigilon's did. -Vigilon is paralyzed, he remains helpless.
