Tavern Closed for Private Party

"You know," Lessa began, studying the sign with her hands planted on her hips, "in the entire time I've known Alexander, I can't think of another time that he's closed the place down. He must have really taken to my post-tournament party idea. Orrrr he's going to charge me an outrageous rental fee." With a small whistle, Lessa tipped her head back to take in the White Rabbit's size. The multi-story building, with its tavern and adjoining inn, sat perched on one of the fourth floor's many snowy mountainsides. It was as enormous as it was beautiful, and in the real world, people would have shelled out small fortunes to host events there. Good thing she had an in with the owner. Probably. Maybe.

She tossed a look over her shoulder at Jomei, then gave a small shrug. "I guess we won't know until we ask, huh?" Then she shoved open the heavy door, her fingers instinctively tracing the tiny carved rabbits that adorned the wood. This was a theme that continued throughout the entire building, and she'd spent many hours with Wren, attempting to locate all of the hidden bunnies. They were stitched into blankets, woven into tapestries, and even worked into the metal chandeliers that hung overhead. Lessa found them impossibly charming, especially given how dramatically they clashed with the enormous NPC who ran the place.

The man in question glanced up from his polishing as she and Jomei entered on a swirl of cold air and snowflakes. His stone-etched expression revealed nothing, but there may have been the faintest hint of amusement in his voice when he addressed Lessa. "Just you two? So I guess you brought all your friends."

"Har har," Lessa countered, clambering atop the barstool. "Everyone else should be here soon." She'd long-since dismissed her battle attire, opting for the far more comfortable black leggings and navy sweatshirt. There was no point in dressing up for Alexander and his family - they'd seen her at rock-bottom, in an oversized shirt with a horse on it, covered in cider stains, and unwashed for a week straight. And Jomei? Well, if he couldn't handle her in her hoodie, he didn't deserve her in her formal dress. Whenever she got that out again. Hopefully not too soon.

"Is this the guy?" came a sudden voice from beside Lessa. She turned to find Wren sitting there, peering curiously around her toward where Jomei sat.

Feeling the warmth of a blush, Lessa answered shyly, "Uh, yes."

The White Rabbit Tavern, a good name for a bar. Always wondered if it had an Alice and Wonderland motif, or if the owner was just a fan of rabbits. The name had crossed his metaphorical desk before, though never from anyone he was familiar with. Apparently it was a popular spot for Lessa, and a spattering of other veterans. It was also built into the side of one of the floor's many snow covered mountains. A hike wasn't exactly on Jomei's agenda for today, but the promise of good drinks, and even better company, was enough to light a fire under his ass. He was just thankful that the Survival skill was working properly again.

"Wait, so you're telling me you're not sitting on a horde of col?" He turned his chin to face the blonde, forehead wrinkling from a raised brow. His chest and shoulders dropped with a heavy sigh, his playful disappointment taking the form of a small cloud. "Not even a full day and you're already making me second guess this" his pointer finger shot back and forth between the two. The smile he fought to subdue finally broke free, and he shared a laugh before following her into the warmth of The White Rabbit. "You know I'll help you out if it comes to that." he reassured her, "Maybe if we pool our col together, we can afford the second round."

The interior of the bar was just as charming as its snow dusted exterior, spacious enough to house a large group of guests without being piled on top of each other. It felt all that much more massive with Jomei and Lessa being the only two patrons present. As the roaring flames of the large, stone heath warmed his bones, Jomei discarded his fur lined cape onto a coat hanger in the corner of the room. Following suit with his companion, he also swapped out his combat regalia for an outfit more suitable for a casual gathering. 

"Just you two? So I guess you brought all your friends." greeted the large framed man from behind the bar as the two approached. Jomei could not help but laugh at the jab as they procured a pair of stools at the bar where Alexander stood. "Hey" he would gently prod Lessa's bicep with his elbow as he sat beside her, "At least you didn't lie and tell him you had more friends." He doubled down on Alexander's tease. Turning his attention to Alexander, Jomei would reach out a polite hand in greeting. "Pleasure to meet you, Alexander. I'm Jomei." he would introduce himself with a deep nod of his head, "Thank you for hosting this little get together of ours."

As he spoke briefly with the other man, he heard a tiny voice speaking from Lessa's other side, and he could see its source out of the corner of his eye peeking around the woman. A tiny smile crept up on him, as he felt that fluttering in his chest once again when he heard Lessa respond to her question. His own cheeks reddening, matching the hue of Lessa's face, he'd gently bump Lessa's knee with his - as if to confirm that he heard what she said. 

"I'm looking forward to this." Jomei would remark as he turned his torso to face Lessa, leaning an elbow on the wooden countertop. "I feel like the past six weeks have been just as exhausting as getting ready for a boss raid. A little bit of R and R, some good drinks, and chatting to remind each other we're still friends.. despite trying to 'kill each other.' adding on air quotes, since there was no actual risk of death. "So, uh, thanks for being the one to organize it." his grin shone brightly at her. His hand gently brushed over the top of hers, almost as if asking silent permission, before tenderly placing it on top of hers. 

[Minako 0]

The White Rabbit. Minako looked up at the fairly large tavern. The outfit she wore was beginning to fail against the harsh winter of this floor. Why did she choose this floor for the tournament anyway? She crossed her arms across her chest and rubbed her upper arms for warmth. The party had already started, but she was waiting for someone to arrive. She shuddered as another gust blew though the patio she was standing in. She had already seen a few participants go inside, and she gave each of them a little wave and smile before they disappeared into the warm interior. She could only just make out the sounds of laughter and merry making through the building's stone walls. She tapped her foot impatiently as she opened her menu. Still no message. Was she, getting stood up? No, they talked about this. Maybe, he had just forgotten? Another ping appeared. The sigh that left Minako hung in the air as her breath became visible in the cold. She closed her menu, and leaned against the stone wall. The stone was so cold that it seemed to sap the very warmth from her. He wasn't coming. Too busy with other things. He'd make it up to her. She bit her lip. No he wouldn't.

She felt like crying. She felt like no matter what she did, no one would stay with her for but a few moments. This entire 'thing' they had was going to end up superficial. It was only a matter of time. She had her fans, which she gave the night off they had already gone inside and began partying. But, he was different from them. They saw her and adored her because of her looks, because she was a famous person on the internet. But he didn't care about that. Or at least, that's what she thought. Was he just using her for this tournament of his? Her name and recognition to just artificially hype things up? Did he lie to her? She was mad now. Not just at the situation, but at herself. Mad that she let herself feel this way again. It never worked out, and it never would. She'd just have to accept that. She peered into the window beside her, the glass was frosted from the chilling winds outside but she could see her fans raising mugs of whatever and toasting. Like alcohol would actually work. She hated the taste of it anyway. She could see Less and Jomei chatting, good for them. She turned away from the window, and swallowed. This feeling wasn't going to get the best of her. It never did before, and it certainly wouldn't now!

Putting on a brave face, she walked to the door and opened it. The blast of warm air nearly knocked her off her feet as she stepped inside. "H-H-hi e-e-everyone!" She said, stammering slightly from the cold. "Guh-glad I c-could make it!" She said, a large smile beaming over her face. Three men dressed in white jumpsuits raised glasses, and cheered for her as she entered. She smiled to them, and gave them a polite wave. She chose to seat herself at the far end of the bar, not wanting to get between Lessa and Jomei who, if she recalled correctly, admitted their undying love for each other. It probably wasn't as serious as that, but the way Jomei was gawking at Lessa, it was probably true. Instead she would wait to be approached, as she attempted to order something warm to drink.

With the sixth week of this tournament over, Kiyabu found a notice about a get-together for the participants, which definitely garnered his attention as he checked the necessary information to find its location. “So I'm looking for a place called the ‘White Rabbit’ on floor four, on a snowy mountain... It'll definitely be a good change of pace from the fiery volcano of my last match.” He murmured quietly to himself, Before looking through his inventory for anything comfortable to wear. As Kiyabu came across the perfect harmony of style for this adventure up a mountain, He felt a tinge of excitement build within him. 

His journey up the mountain was lengthy and arduous but filled with the kind of beauty that only a snow-laden landscape could provide. The terrain was a mesmerizing canvas of whites and blues, with the sun casting a shimmering glow on the untouched snow that blanketed the earth. As he trudged through the snow, his mind wandered to the various characters he might meet at the tavern—a melting pot of personalities, skills, and stories that had come together for this grand tournament.

Finally, the silhouette of the multi-story tavern came into view, its warmth and hospitality seemingly radiant through the icy air. Kiyabu was greeted by the intricate patterns of small rabbits adorning the heavy wooden door, each carving telling a story of its own. ‘I can see where the name for this place came from.’ He thought with a soft smile while stepping through the threshold, To be welcomed by a warm sensation. The interior of the tavern was a stark contrast to the snowy exterior, with a cozy fireplace crackling in the corner and patrons laughing heartily over mugs of steaming drinks. The ambiance was inviting, filled with the rich aroma of hearty stews and the sweet scent of mulled wine.

Kiyabu noticed the sign out front that said "Closed." But he had read that this place was holding a party for players taking part in the tournament. As he stepped further inside, He was enveloped by the lively atmosphere, with music playing softly in the background and the gentle hum of conversation filling the room. The tavern was a tapestry of warmth and camaraderie, a sanctuary from the chill of the mountain.

While explaining his arrival to the owner, a jovial man with a bushy beard and a twinkle in his eye, Kiyabu made sure to wipe any excess snow off his brown leather jacket, which had a comforting wool interior that kept him warm against the mountain's frigid temperatures. Underneath the jacket, he wore a black turtleneck sweater paired with dark grey trousers—an ensemble that combined both style and practicality for the evening ahead.

Out of the corner of his eye, Kiyabu noticed a couple of familiar faces among the bustling crowd. The tavern was alive with animated conversations and laughter, creating an inviting atmosphere that made it easy to lose oneself in its warmth. As his gaze swept across the room, he caught sight of Jomei, a fellow competitor he had met during the early rounds of the tournament. Jomei was a seasoned player known for his strategic mind and calm demeanor, traits that had earned him respect among the participants. Standing beside Jomei was a woman Kiyabu hadn't seen before, her presence striking and poised, as she engaged in an animated discussion with him.

Kiyabu felt a momentary pang of indecision as he debated whom to approach first. The room was filled with potential connections, but the sight of Jomei brought back memories of shared battles and mutual respect. Making up his mind, Kiyabu navigated through the crowd, weaving between groups of people engaged in lively exchanges. As he approached, he could hear snippets of their conversation, punctuated by bursts of laughter.

“Hey, sorry to intrude on your conversation.” Kiyabu interjected with a friendly smile, his voice carrying a note of genuine warmth. “It's nice to see you again, Jomei.” He held out his hand in greeting, a gesture that was as much a sign of camaraderie as it was of respect. “And who would this lovely lady be, You're girlfriend?” He inquired in a playful tease referring to Lessa.

Wulfrin had received the invite unexpectedly; he figured it was something just being offered out to Clash of Blades participants, but then he saw it listed on the message boards. At first Wulfrin was hesitant to make an appearance, but considering he was one of the top performers of the even, he felt slightly obligated. Though given how brutally he had won his first matches, he was more concerned about being considered the villain of the event, a fear he had started to rationalize even more when the event updated to ban his main strategy forcing him to pivot from a tried and true battle plan. On the other hand, the idea of possibly gaining some valuable insight on the competitors he had yet to face. He sent out a brief invitation to both his fiance and protige extending the offer to join him so he'd feel less alone in a sea of relatively unknown faces.

Wulfrin made his way through the chilling fields of Floor 4 towards the White Rabbit tavern. He took a deep breath before pushing his way into the warm and inviting interior of the tavern. He spotted two familiar faces right off the bat, his week 2 partner Jomei and his weeks 2 and 3 opponent Kiyabu. They seemed to be grouped up around another player Wulfrin vaguely recognized from the floor 28 boss raid as well as the initial battle of floor 29. Against his better judgement, he approached the bar. In an attempt to not overwhelm the slowly growing group Wulfrin made sure to sit a few seats down, making sure he got a brief wave in to both Jomei and Kiyabu just to show he made an appearance.

"You a tournament battler?" A stoic and muscular man in his mid thirties said from the behind the bar. Wulfrin gave a simple nod as the gentleman continued. "First round is free for participants. What'll you be having?"

"Strawberry daquiri please," Wulfrin said as he scanned the tavern for any other familiar faces that may mosey in. "Salt on the rim if you don't mind." After a short wait the drink was presented to him. Wulfrin wasn't a super heavy drinker in the real world, he couldn't stand the tase of alcohol, so when he did drink it was often a flavorful fruity drink that often got him criticized by others for only liking "the girly drinks". Ultimately he would pay these types of comments no mind. With a sigh Wulfrin began to sip on his free drink as he casually listened to the bustling conversations around him.
