As a young boy, Russell had an affinity for the amazing and wonder of the world. He enjoyed learning about space, and the vastness of earth. So when he was introduced to fantasy games, he was lovestruck. He played, not to kill or scavenge, but to explore. Although, his affinity for learning didn't earn points with his peers. He was teased, bullied, and called names, like "space nerd." This made him withdrawn even more. He talked less and less, and stopped being social in general. This continued all the to high school. When new about SAO came out, he was hesitant to buy it for the sake of facing other people, but ended up getting it anyway. He put on his helmet and logged in.
» Virtues:

 

Adventurous: Russell likes exploring for the sake of wonder, so when a new floor opens up, he is one of the first people to rush in and explore. He knows that it comes with his disadvantages, but he continues to do so and helps map the floors as they open up.

 

Realist: Knowing first-hand about some of the bad parts of society, Russell understands that some stuff isn't possible to achieve. He knows why some people are selfish, or why some people can't help each other out. 

 

Peaceful: Russell is the opposite of a violent person. He doesn't like to fight and isn't easily angered, if able to be angered at all. He likes to step back and not let anything get to him and fight, (although said things to get to him.) In a sense, you could say he wouldn't hurt a fly as he doesn't like to see fights or death.

 

Clever:

 

» Flaws:

Timid: Russell isn't really a "social" person anymore, and tends to stay away from things similar to that. He likes keeping to himself and doesn't really participate or talk often. So when he is approached, he tends to speak softly and quickly.

Meek: As a result of being teased and bullied for years, Russell doesn't have the spirit to fight back or stand up. He easily submits to a person when they are being tyrannical and such. He doesn't have much courage either.

 

Distrustful: To Russell, most people can't be trusted very well. He doesn't give away trust easily since letting his guard down is what made school life so miserable to him. So when meeting people, his first intentions is to figure how trustworthy said person is.

 

Cynical: Tying in with how Russell is distrustful, he also believes almost everyone does things for their self benefit. Donate to charity? Good publicity. Protecting a younger kid? Score with the ladies. So he finds it really hard to believe that anyone actually wants to help him or be friends with him.
