Born to an uncaring family of bankers and businessmen, Rin became totally self-dependent to survive. This self-sufficiency festered and grew until he decided to give up his family on a whim. Striking out on his own, every day after work he would train himself in martial combat as well as practical skills. Originally buying the NerveGear to build simulations for himself, Rin entered Sword Art Online to test his combat proficiency.

» Virtues:
Adaptable: Thanks to lightning-quick mental reflexes , Rin adapt easily to sudden changes around him. If someone jumps from a height directly at him, you casually step aside. If scything blades come out of a wall, he has the presence of mind to get out of the way. This was the product of his extended training and martial arts expertise. Now trapped in SAO, this trait has allowed for a quick exit from several life-threatening situations.

Challenger: Rin's quest is not that of fame, reputation, riches or even saving the world. What he strives for is constant self-improvement so that he might one day achieve the absolute pinnacle in his path - that of stealth and combat. Having become trapped in a death game, this has lead to his thriving and for once a real opportunity to test his limits.
Perceptive: His senses are drawn to some details, no matter how small. Rin would notice a brown stain on a warrior's legplates, the nervous behaviour of a liar or PKer, the relocation of a prized signet ring from the finger of one lady to another. Such observations are second nature to him and Rin hardly ever overlook important clues. This has led to the easy completion of many quests and procurement of several items he maybe shouldn't ever have got his hands on.

Self-controlled: The verbal slings and arrows people hurl at you roll of Rin's back. He sees through seduction attempts and laugh them off. And of course, nobody ever intimidates him. As a master of himself, nobody demands his allegiance and he's not afraid of bluntly reminding people of this.

Callous- Rin is hardened to emotions, rarely showing any form of it in expression. Unfeeling and cold would best describe him - he does not react to people's expressions or tones of voice, they are all the same and equal to him. Having grown up with people who only spoke to him if they wanted him to do something, he never bothered checking what tone they were saying it in. They would never matter anyway.

Blunt- Characterized by directness in manner or speech; without subtlety or evasion. Frank, callous, insensitive, brusque. Having only grown up with those that were self-absorbed - who believed their time was priceless - Rin adapted to this and only spoke what he had to speak. Never small-talking he made them listen when he talked rather than brushing him off.

Erratic- Deviating from the customary course in conduct or opinion; eccentric: erratic behavior. Eccentric, bizarre, outlandish, strange. The difference in speech and behavior due to his rather unusual childhood has led to many finding him... unusual.. to put it lightly. His blunt and rather military discipline also seems to put off many more extroverted and upbeat people.

Self-righteous- Piously sure of one's own righteousness; moralistic. Exhibiting pious self-assurance. Holier-than-thou, sanctimonious. Rin grew up on his own, learnt on his own and survived on his own. This has indirectly led to Rin believing he is better in most ways than those who did not have such a harsh childhood.
