[SP-F1] Earning a Living

Recommended Posts

Malakath knew that he was going to have to get a profession to survive and maybe even thrive within Aincrad. In doing so he would begin looking for pieces he could make Jewellery from. Since Jewelery was an important item that can increase stats without necessarily being a huge item to lug around. He headed out to the NPC first though. The jeweller who apparently needs help getting more stock.

To him, Jewelcrafting and other small meticulous jobs were the most fun. Much like an enchanter in another MMO he used to play. He spent hours trying to up his stats and in the end he would be able to become a grandmaster as a result. Though he would need to start at the bottom and work his way up he took the challenge in his stride and set out.

After a few minutes of looking along the main market, he found the NPC quest giver for the Artisan trainer. An old man flinging his arms around ad staring at a list of orders. He turned to Malakath after initiating the chat and said "Oh no what am I to do, I have these orders to fill and am all out of materials. You must go and collect them for me!" After reading the quest rewards of a profession and things to get started with it he was all for helping the computerised grieving man!

Accepting the quest the NPC played an automatic message "Don't be too long now, always good to meet new interested jewellers!" but Malakath didn't reply. This was an NPC, and a questgiver, they're supposed to be able to spout a certain set of words then nothing ... He didn't see the point. And in a roleplay perspective he was playing as his character perfectly. But he was off to look for items requested by the questgiver.

After Heading out into the town, he headed to the first quest giver target. An elderly woman NPC who offers to give the silver bands for talking to her. And she said quite simply "Ooh, hello dearie, come to me for the Jeweller hmm. He's a nice man indeed, shame he doesn't come and talk to me more often." Malakath Sadly wished there was a skip button on some dialogues, this womans voice was a long drawn out husky voice and it was uncomfortable to here, like the stereotypical witch voice in some old movies.

He kind of drones her out for a few moments until he heard the words "Well, you've been good and listened to the dronings of an old crone like me ... please take this?" Upon doing so an item appeared in his inventory named <<Bundle of Silver Cords>>. Which he smiled at and then looked at his quest requirement. This said that he needed to go and collect the Jewellers Tools from the Blacksmith NPC. So that was his next bet.

After a few minutes he reached the same blacksmith NPC, and after quickly cancelling the request to cancel the quest he had accepted from him he selected the dialog for the Jeweller's Quest. Upon which he was met with "Ah! You must be here about that Jeweller. He's good but he's careless, makes me spend hours filing tiny pieces of metal so he can make holes in stuff. But he does good work. Here, take these!" and like clockwork, filling Malakath's inventory was as expected <<Jewellers Toolkit>> was there.

Malakath felt the needed to look at this item so he examined the item description that read simply "A collection of intricately carved and crafted drills, files and punches, designed to make tiny holes in Jewellery pieces." Malakath read aloud and then smiled before moving off to the next location, smiling. But he needed to go out to the miner to grab some jewels ... Now this usually was the part where he needed to fight something. Which he was kind of looking forward to.

The mine was another safe zone just outside the city of beginnings. In order to get there he needed to leave the city and walk down a path for some time. He watched some farmer NPCs walking up and down the path delivering baskets of fruit and vegetables but never really delivering anything. He also looks out at the mobs just wandering around up and down the fields either side with no real hate generating targets, so they just wander up and down the path.

On his way he thought about goading the creatures, but he decided against. His plan was to do a simple quest in order to get a profession to thrive. Not mess around getting killed and NOT respawning because his head will be filled with microwaves. He carried on solemnly for a while thinking about how he could've died early on but since he's been in here for 3 days at least now he was not going to die from that. Carrying on to the mining outpost.

Upon Reaching the mining outpost he saw several veins exposed at the surface with an NPC stood at the entrance. Upon approach he said "Yo, if your here for the Jeweller I'm afraid that I can't do much for you? Best I can do is give you this pickaxe and tell you to be careful in the mine. Mineral worms are in there and unless you wanna kill them to get some gems from their guts you'll need to mine them out. 20 gems was my order for him, bring them here and i'll package it for you to bring back, but be careful about it alright? My miners are trapped in there even now"

Malakath frowned a little, though the movements were robotic enough the NPCs were very lifelike. The faces they made and pulled were very very real. But it was only after the quest dialog ended and his face turned back to the stern one he wore before that Malakath sighed and continued into the cave.

Upon entering the mine he realised that these worms were level 1 monsters, small with no real damage output. Only designed to take two hits from a level 1 character ... But his sword did 2 damage due to his skills he allocated so it would literally take no time to deal with these at all. Deciding that he'd only fight them if mining aggro'd them. Instead he moved deeper into the mine, trying to avoid these creatures until he reached the end and he'd work his way out since it cuts the time in half if he gets his items on his way back to the miner.

Moving through the dungeon, using his level to an advantage as it reduces his aggro radius for the monsters. He began walking in a zig-zag pattern towards the bottom of the cave, stopping and looking around when he reached the bottom. Seeing an opening held up by pillars which were rotten somewhat. But this didn't phase him much as he knew that virtual age didn't cause a level 1 area to collapse onto him.

[Loot Dice =3]

After reaching the deepest part of the mine he took a swing at the exposed veins ... Nothing. This may take longer than he thought, but he mustn't give up hope. He moved around to another vein and struck it once more and took some of the rock off, exposing the vein but attracting the attention of one of the mineral eating worm. It looked much larger than the small ones writhing around paying no attention to him. And it was slowly moving towards him. As it moved under the torch light he could see it was a sickly greenish grey. With an ugly purple pattern on it's back that looked like someone dumped inky oil on it's back and it stained the flesh. It had no eyes but had it's front end filled with a maw of serrated teeth.

Malakath Sighed deeply as he drew his weapon, realizing this was the first time he'd use it on something other than air. He smiled a little, getting a feel for it's weight and it's length. He ran towards the large worm and attempted to slash at it's head. In order to kill this thing he needed to deal some hits to it since he is still quite a low level after all.

ID: #6363.  Battle Dice = 7 Success!!!

Malakath swung true and the blade bit into the side of the worm, leaving a glowing red gash where it went in. The worm screeched and moved away. But Malakath closed the gap with a sidestep as he didn't want any way for this creature to get a leg up on him. Which he decided was the best idea at hand currently.

The worm however did not just move away, it was rearing backwards to try and slam Malakath. Little did malakath know this and he relaxed slightly. As if he thought the worm was going to run away. But the worm returned, to attempt to slam Malakath.

Worm health = 4/6

But Malakath realised that the worm was moving back down towards him and sidestepped out of the way with relative ease. He realised that the worm would do some damage as the floor vibrated but never thought it would be able to actually hit him like that. In the end he hoped that he could finish this creature quite fast in order to finish this quest as quickly as possible. But for now he couldn't tell how long this was going to take.

Malakath learned his lesson at that point, mobs don't run ... EVER. At that point he got a burst of fighting spirit and attempted to swing down hard into the worm. Hoping that he would get some of those gems after all. Since these were quest items needed to get a quest item, he must get them in clusters at least. But he was getting sidetracked, he needed to fight the creature.

ID: 6365 Battle: 1 Epic Fail

Malakath snagged his blade on a stalagmite he didn't even know was there and cursed under his breath at this misfortune. But didn't lose heart as the worm reared up for another attack on him. Slowly and lullingly like it was taking it's time for an inevitable strike. This gave Malakath the slight waver of far as it reared.

The worm turned to Malakath and attempted to Lazily bite at Malakath's leg. The hope being that it would start to hurt the PC that had hurt it. Not that NPCs feel but are designed and programmed to react in certain ways to certain things.

ID:6366 MOB: 1 Epic Fail!!!

But the Worm bumped it's head on a pillar that was holding up the roof and stumbled once more. As it fell it's teeth fell onto a rock and bites into it hard. Opening up it's flank for Malakath who was more than ready to attack again. He thought about it long and hard and took the oppertunity to plan out his next attack. Finding out the exact location of the next place to strike.

In this result, watching the worm writhing with it's jaws on a rock. Malakath Decided to go for the next strike, he knew he needed to kill something at some point. In the hope that he would be benefited him greatly.

ID: 6367 Battle: 5 Miss!!!

Malakath went for the swing but was so overconfident he forgot to remove his blade from the stalagmite. In doing so he released it from the stone but lost so much momentum that the blade just bounced off the NPCs rubbery hide. Staggering backwards with a little springback from the rubbery hide. He recollects his stance and stands once more in order to regulate his footing and breathing.

The worm on the other hand with it's jaw desperately trying to dislodge itself from the rock it had bitten into. The worm in it's plight knew it had to continue fighting, in it's flailing however. The worm however had attempted to slap Malakath with it's flabby tail.

ID: 6368 Mob Dice: 10 critical +2 damage

Malakath got hit hard by the large, flabby tail and watched his health bar drop in the corner of his eye. Skidding along the floor and a large red mark where it struck appeared on his avatar. He grabbed at it as he imagined a wave of pain would appear. But nothing appeared to assault his psyche with pain.

He looked up to find out that the worm was simply recovering from flailing and trying to pull itself out while Malakath was also recovering. But there was nothing there to show either of them backing down at them.

HP dropped to 6/9

Malakath was stunned by this hit and saw the large red mark on his body fade away. Getting up and charging at this worm once more, the general idea being that rage was beginning to take over. Since he was very angry with how he is losing against this flabby monstrosity.

ID: 6369 Battle: 8 HIT!!!

Malakath got another Khopesh strike deep into the flank of this worm as it screeched once more. It reared up once more and fell backwards as it rotated onto it's stomach once more. Like a child throwing a tantrum, he became flatter like a souffle losing it's air. Before it reinflated once more, using the extra roundness it got with the reinflation to become right once more. When it turned back to Malakath it's mouth was now frothing.

Worm HP 2/6

The worm seemed to release it's jaws from the rock and contracted itself into a coil. As it did so, it leapt at Malakath. Jaws gnashing in some vile frenzy of muderous nature. Like a tooth bladed Rocket-ship, it flew at the young Malakath with froth leaking from it's maw with an attempted gnash at Malakath.

ID:6370 MOB:1 Epic Miss!!!

The worm rocketed over his head and Malakath went to take this as a golden oppertunity. Taking a knee as if entering some macabre prayer was being said. Then he waited for the worm to get close. Like a preying mantis waits for a fly to cross it's path.

Malakath ducked as the worm sailed through the air at him. As he did so he raised his khopesh to the roof, sharp end towards the worm. Hoping very deeply that his blade would run it through. The worm seemingly on the path Malakath could see would tear it up and finally end this battle.

ID: 6371 Battle: 1

But alas, the worm didn't fly straight and hit the wall behind Malakath. But arose dazed and swaying at the fact it's head met a solid stone wall. Unlike the worm however, Malakath was not dazed ... Nor happy. His epic way of getting the beast to kill itself was foiled. Malakath began walking towards the worm again with a dark look on his face.

The worm in it's daze did not attempt to bite at Malakath but instead tried to body slam him once more. Rearing up and then dropping itself onto him in some dramatic and lethal trust exercise. It's idea to being to pin down the player to eat him when he cannot move. The frothing still arrearing from it's mouth.

ID: 6372 MOB: 5 Miss !!!!!

The worm fell sluggishly and pointlessly and Malakath had the ability to simply backstep to avoid the crush. He was still holding the dark look but the sheer ease he made his reaction look like he was an immensely high level. Full of rage and with a look in his eye that declared he was going to kill this creature.  And the look said he was going to end this in the next strike.

Malakath Sidestepped and took his khopesh in his other hand as he crouched. With this  he attempted to slash upwards with a backhand like swatting a tennis ball with it's racket. He briefly took tennis lessons as Kai. As a result, he grows the backbone he deserves and attempts to deliver his goods.

Dice ID:6373 Battle Dice: 10 Critical hit!!!

The Worm split in two as Malakath Slashed upwards with such force that he managed to get the air to rip apart the rest of the creature. As either half fell to either side his inventory got an item in it. <<Stomach of the Giant Gem Worm>> Which was an openable item, and upon opening it. He got 20 gems since what he didn't know is that the worms grew to that size when they ate 20 gems!!!

He emerged from the mine once more and spoke to the miner, who said quickly. "Well Darn, you got them all, alrighty then, I think you deserve them. Welp, i'll just package them for you. Alright?" Malakath had the 20 gems removed from his inventory and got replaced by an item named <<Gem Package>>. He smiled as he recieved it and headed back to the Jeweller to hand in the quest items.

He got there a few minutes later and the Jeweller said "Well thank you kindly sir! Look, you've earned the right for me to teach you how to be a jeweller. Good luck in whatever it is you want to do in life here are some Materials to get you started too, since you won't be able to start crafting without them now!!!"
