[SP-F1]Time To Earn Your Living!<<Earning A Living>>

Recommended Posts

There he was, in the big starting city where every player started out. Many people were already progressing through the floors while Axel was procrastinating a bit. It wasn't like he didn't want to help, but it was that as the days went on, many more people's characters died, as well as them, or at least people liked to think you died in real life if you lost the game. He didn't want to actually die since he had so much more of his life to live, so daily he wondered if he should even go out. Especially since his brother never came back to him, assuming he was dead to. Axel didn't believe that you would die in real life, but if it was true, then he had no big brother that would teach him more about sports to go back to, which made him sad.

Well, now was the day he was going to get out there and help everyone else finish this game of death! He had been making a few cols a day killing the boars in the grassland in order to stay at an NPC inn located in the middle of the starting city, as well as a piece of bread and some water every now and then. He didn't need to eat because it wouldn't do anything for his body, but he liked to taste something every once in a while. He woke up from his rented inn room, threw on his basic leather clothes and decided that he would open a merchant shop, since for days he had been examining the shops of multiple merchants and realized that he would like to run a shop of his own. Now he was off to a friendly NPC named Chase that would love to help him start.

There Axel was, zooming across streets to get to his location. Of course, he wasn't as fast as some of the players who went to higher floors and got some cool items that boosted speed and such, but for now he was where he wanted to be. After about 10 minutes of going through the city, Axel stopped right in front of Chase's merchant shop that was titled 'Chase's Goods!' which was a basic name, but he was still getting tons of customers. The shop was a simple average-sized blue square building with a few decorations like stars and whatnot. Axel stopped looking at the building and decided to finally go in to see how his friend was doing today. As he went he saw the same blue wallpaper as well as a ton of basic items held up via wooden platforms, like potions, fishing rods, teleportation crystals, etc. There was a few customers lined up behind a counter, and the person in the front had spikey blue hair with blue eyes and wore light blue armor. As you could see, Chase's favorite color was blue.

To show his manners, Axel got into line so that he could talk to Chase about setting him up without interrupting business, because that would possibly cause some to just leave and find another merchant's shop. Now that the pink-haired player thought about it, he wondered why Chase would even help Axel because he would then be gaining more competition, but then logic came back to him and he remembered that he was just an NPC who didn't even really need to sell to make his living. He may be programmed to look like it, but the truth is far from that. Finally Axel was in front of the line and began speaking.

"Hey Chase" he greeted his friend, going in for a handshake which he accepted. "So, are you going to show me how it is done today? he asked, turning his smiling facial expression into a curious one.

"Of course! I was just waiting for you to get here. For the rest of the day you will be my assistant and I will even let you take over the counter for a while. We will do the same thing tomorrow and the next day, and so on until I feel you are ready to make your own shop!" he replied, smiling. Axel smiled back.

"Alright, so for now just stand next to me at the counter, and when a customer wants to purchase one of my special items I will send you to the back to get them. Simple right?" Chase explained, with Axel nodding afterwards. If that was all he had to do for now then he would not fail. He waited for a customer to ask for something special, but all most of them wanted were health potions and teleportation crystals, along with the occasional instrument, which made Axel wonder if being a perfomer really was fun. It was one of his main choices when he was deciding which he should choose, but at the end he dropped the others and went with being a merchant. Finally somebody came up to the counter and began to say something Axel wanted to hear.

"Hey Chase! Can you give me that one pair of gauntlets I saw that other adventurer sell you the other day? I finally got the col for them," He asked, and Axel smiled widely because he didn't see any pair of gauntlets in the main room.
