[SP-F2] Earning A Living Part Deux (Repeat 1) [Complete]

Recommended Posts

Rebekah had arrived back onto floor 1, in order to check out the new Cooking profession guide. It had been over half a year since she had first started the cooking profession, and now there seems to be a few recent updates in the system. Thus, she returned to the where it had all began. It was rather quiet today, as there were not a lot of new players learning their profession, and wondered, perhaps everyone who had wanted to learn one had already. She was paying extra attention to the new rules on snacks, deserts, as well as meals. However, she realized that was a minor change to her cooking as she already had obtained level 4 Chef, and was free to cook anything with the exception of feast.

After reviewing the new system, and having a quick chat to her NPC Chef who had taught her the basics, she was convinced to visit the farm on Floor 2, where she could attempt to collect materials without combat. It would also give her the opportunity to try to create fresh salads that would be fresh as opposed to cooking other things all the time. In fact, she was looking to reinvent her cooking style, she had never found a particular style that she wanted her shop to be, but she knew that it was best if she could find something. Besides, the NPC had promised her that if she was to return with enough materials, then she would be shown some additional styles of food in cooking. Anyways, usually she was too busy fighting monsters, but she knew that there was a perfect time, as her weapons were getting some minor checks before the next boss raid. She had them with her, but prefered not to fight today.

Luckily for her, the teleportation portal on floor 1 was not that far away, it was at the center of the town, nearby where she had visited to receive the instructions. It was a quick walk for Rebekah, as she was determined not to waste any more time. There was a lot to do, and a lot to prep before the upcoming boss raid. For once in a long time, there was a sense or urgency to finish this for the girl, which she had not found in a long long time. Perhaps she had never felt so worried about an upcoming event before, and that she needed to make every moment count.

It had felt like an hour had passed by, when she had finally started leaving the town on floor 2. As she made her way towards the farm, she knew that it would have taken her about 10 minutes to reach this point, but she had ran into a few people, and stopped for a quick conversation. It had been a while since she visited these floors, thus she was interested in visiting them. As she made her way towards the farm, she was on the lookout for any materials that could have been collected. However, she looked around and could see nothing around the outskirts of the town.

She continued walking towards the NPC farm that she had heard of. This farm was different in the sense that it was a "U-Pick" in which the players themselves are responsible for gathering the food that they wanted to received, and possibly pay a small fee at the end to the farmer. This was different than obtaining mats from the market or shops as she would receive relatively fresher ingredients as opposed to older ones. As she continued walking on the path, she eventually arrived at a fork, and knew that the farm was up ahead.

Still nothing... Rebekah had not found anything in the previous two trees that she had searched prior to arriving at this destination. She knew that she was not having any luck today, but was still waiting for her to arrive at her destination, where the materials would be found. It was not her day today, or at least not yet. She continued searching as she approached the farm up ahead. She saw the big sign, and the NPC who was inside the first building, which she would have to visit before continuing any further. As she approached the building, she thought she saw something, but it was just her imagination.

With nothing else to find outside, she walked into the first building of this farm that she saw. It was just south of a smaller town away from the center of the second floor. As she arrived, she greeted the NPC who was sitting inside, and requested if she could help herself to picking some of the food away from the farm inside, since she had heard about it before. The NPC told her that this was the point of the farm, that they do not have enough people to harvest all the food, thus they made it open for free to players since the food would eventually rot anyways.

She left the building and walked outside. Perhaps she would start near the orchards, seeing that she only had to pull the fruits off the tree to collect her materials. That would be a lot easier since she could see the tree in front of her, and would know where exactly to search. She had been striking out today, and hoped that maybe this time it would be the charm. As she made her way towards the orchards, Rebekah could see the different types of fruits growing on the trees. As she walked to the first tree, she could see that the fruits were still growing, and not yet fully matured.

Perhaps she was doing this entirely wrong, she moved towards the next row of trees. Maybe she would have more luck as the pickers usually harvest from the closer rolls rather than farther ones, as that was human nature. At least that was one of the logic that appeared inside her head, as she knew that she could not go back to floor one empty handed. It was the last thing that she wanted. Doubt started to creep in as she continued searching.

She had seen a few NPCs running around with a basket of food in their hands, so she knew that if she tried hard enough, she would eventually find the materials that she had come all this way to look for. It was something that she desperately wanted, but she knew that she needed patience. She was starting to get frustrated since she had not found anything all day so far, as she knew that, she was over complicating things. She looked at eye level at the next set of trees, and found a fruit hanging on it, so she quickly harvested it before it was gone.

After securing her first material, she continued to look around this set of trees, hoping for another fruit that one of the NPCs may have missed when they walked by. Even though it was highly unlikely, she was going to search anyways, as you always fail what you never attempt. It was just one of her theories on life, and knew that it was important for her to know how to continued being determined at something even if it was being really stubborn.

She decided to continue searching this row of trees, as it was where she had found her first material all day long. She had wished that materials would be a lot more common, but knew that the chances of that were quite slim. Everyone knew that searching for materials would often take a lot of time, but that was what it was going to take for her to max a profession. The only reason she was doing this was to hope to be one of the first to max out the profession of cooking, although that was highly unlikely.

Rebekah had played other MMORPG games such as this before, and knew the grind that it took to max out a skill. However, she never imagined that maxing out a profession actually required a lot of physical work and planning ahead, especially how to continuously find a flow of materials. It was just the type of thing that she had lacked in real life, as it was not that important. She gave up on this row of trees in the orchard and moved on to the next.

It had been a while since she had last found something and knew that it may take an extremely long time before doing so. That was just how things would have worked around here, but she knew that the odds of her finding materials should average out in the end, she had heard estimates of up to 25% success rates for a lot of people, but she was not achieving that, or at least remotely. She continued to walk through the next row of apple trees, hoping to find a lone apple that was still around.

The end of the huge orchard was in sight, just a few more rows to search through. As she was searching she had over heard from a NPC that the majority of their harvest was done, and if players such as herself was interested in searching to make their lives easier, then they should have arrived a lot earlier to this farm. For her, she had never knew when harvest season was, but she decided to keep that in mind for next time that she would return to this farm.

Rebekah continued to walk into the 3rd last row of trees in this gigantic orchard. She had wondered maybe one of these days, she should create her mini-farm away from the hassle and big crowded 1st floor. She knew that trying to grow something in her 4th floor was near impossible because of the weather and knew that she would be suited best to attempt to do something. As she kept dreaming about the future and what would be next after this, she continued scanning the row of trees looking for something that she could take.

Rebekah continued to move ahead slowly, knowing that she may have overlooked things if she tried to run past towards the final row of trees at the end of this orchard. However, the orchard was not the only piece of land on this farm, there was the big farmland where they actually grow the vegetables as well as animals that lived on here. The orchard was situated right in the middle of the land, next to the building that she had entered when she had first arrived.

The sun was just beginning to shine over top of the whole farm at mid-day now. But, the temperature was not really that hot, as she realized that it had been surviving in worst places in the desert a long time ago. She continued searching, but as the NPCs began to take their break, this would be her chance, as the chances of her finding something would be slightly increased, without them competing with her at the same time.

Rebekah continued to search for the items that was in front of her. After scanning the trees the entire morning, she was getting bored after only being able to find one material out of the entire orchard. She had walked for what felt like hours running around today but still unsuccessful at anything. She knew that it was going to get a lot harder from now, as this was the time that the majority of the people would arrive.

Rebekah finally made it out of the orchard and made her way to the first field closest to the orchard. It seemed like a bigger size of a modern day garden with a sign saying potatos. She saw a nearby shovel, and understood that she would have to start digging in order to find the materials that she was looking for. Hopefully, it was not going to take her a long time to find some potatoes in the ground.
