Early Life & Childhood
Glenn Kurusu was born in Los Angeles, California, having two Japanese-born immigrants from Japan as parents. Even though there was a sizable population of Japanese in the Greater Los Angeles Area, he never really felt in place. His mother enrolled in private lessons to both read and write Japanese to help him become and remain fluent in it. As he progressed in school, he maintained a B+/A- average, satisfying his parents' wishes. However, he always excelled in reading as he always enjoyed reading books in his spare time and at home. This hobby distanced him from his classmates at times and it was a little odd to the teachers that he took out a book when he was done instead of talking or fooling around with the other kids. Glenn did form friendships with a few other kids, but he was never a social person. However, he did have a strong bond with his sister who was four years younger than him, being somewhat protective of her. His family moved back to Japan when Glenn was 8 because his dad lost his job due to budget cuts and his parents decided it would be better for them to live in the culture they grew up in. He had he became separated from all of this when his family moved back to Japan after his dad lost his job.

Later Years
Glenn did not have that much difficult fitting in, quickly growing accustomed to his new home, unlike his sister. However, their relationship never faltered. As he grew older, he became more and more sociable, growing out of that awkward, quiet phase. He was able to make friendships much more easily and took part in extracurricular activities, even becoming a part of the track and field team. In fact, he enjoyed track and field as much as he did reading, which he still did. Life was well.. until it took a turn for the worst. Glenn took severe damage to his legs in a car crash, to the point where he could no longer run and could barely walk as it is. He lost something as well, his dad who had died instantaneously. He became withdrawn and took to himself often, similar to how he was when he was younger. Then another tragedy struck. His mother took her life in front of him when she walked in front of a coming train, killing herself. He and sister moved in with their grandparents as he took a job as a cashier to support the family. As he kept his sorrow inside a bottle, he turned to games to fill up where track and field were. This led to his discovery of SAO. With money that he saved up from his job, he bought a NervGear and a copy of the game and logged on.

Virtues
Helpful: Although Glenn doesn't tend to interact people often, he is willing to help others out. He tends to do small things for people, like get a drink for them or help them find somebody else. He is more likely to help out if he knows the person well.

Intelligent: Glenn's countless hours of reading have helped in that he's learned a lot about the world and various things that isn't taught in school. He holds information about how words form, where they come from and he also knows a lot about science and strategies in math and in figuring out what to do.

Creative: Along with a bit of a higher intelligence from reading came a stream of endless creativity. At time, Glenn thinks about the natural beauty of the world along with tons of ideas about how the world is, how it works, what it is for. He at times, draws to express this creativity that stays inside of him most of the time.

Flaws
Disinterested: Most of the time, Glenn is either reading a book or just walking around. He has a tendency to not listen to others when they speak and most people can tell when this is happening as he gazes outside or cracks his fingers when he isn't listening. This disinterest in other grew ever more stronger once people started spreading rumors or calling him names.

Blunt: Along with not caring much about others or being cold and rude to others, Glenn tends to say a lot of things that are on his mind and he doesn't try to spare other's feelings as he feels that it takes too much effort. He put it simple and that's how he is with most people.

Sarcastic: Glenn avidly enjoys calling out people on their stupidity, but he does this is a fashion as if he is telling a joke so that the person wouldn't be insulted, although Glenn uses sarcasm as a insult sometimes.
