As the monster broke free of Teayre's pin Calrex gave a nod, "You're right, let's get this done and get her a familiar."

 

He gave a calming breath as he twirled the Grand Blade into a hammer grip, rushing forward at the creature. As the beast leapt up, attempting to scratch at his face once again Calrex dropped his stance low as he stepped to the side, bringing the Grand Blade up and over as he cut the beast horizontally across the abdomen, his blade leaving a wide red slash as he leapt back, "Alright Teayre switch!"

 

With that Calrex twirled the Grand Blade into a reverse grip as he gave another long deep calming breath, readying for his turn to come again.

Meokka pulled up her party list and looked to see where they were. She quickly took off like a shot. It didn't take her long to locate them. She spun her lance and ran right into the shrouded enemy. She thought it was strange. Could it be from the heat of this place? She had never seen an enemy like this before. Was it producing it's own fire? She couldn't tell. She looked to Calrex and Teayre.

"I can't see it's name, what is it?" she called out to them jumping back a bit.

Watching as Calrex dived into the creature his blade slicing the creature, a small smile came to her lips which faded as Calrex faltered. The creature had dived in straight for the boy as he called for a switch Teayre took a step forward about to deflect the blow but someone had already beaten her to it. Meokka came sailing in, her lance catching the flickering creature sending it flying over towards Teayre. Pivoting around the small girl spun away from the feline like shadows, as she completed her turn her katana collided with the beast slicing through it the red crystals flickering out.

 

“Meo! I don’t know it just started attacking me. Did you get where you needed?â€

As Meokka appeared and impaled the creature Calrex gave a nod of thanks. Given the amount of breathing room that his two teammates had given him he gave a calming breath as he activated his <<Reveal>> skill, "Just give me a second, I'll see if I can make out the creature."

 

Calrex took a few seconds so that the skill could take full effect as the flaming shadow enrobed parts of the creature came into view. Within a few seconds he was able to see the creature underneath, "It's a panther we're dealing it. Makes sense with the current attack pattern its using. If you take out the flames it's a simple cat."

 

As he spoke he flicked the Grand Blade into a hammer grip as he used his <<Sprint>>, quickly closing the distance. Since he was able to make out all of the body parts of the creature there was no chance he could miss as he executed his Swallow Return attack, the three strikes appearing almost simultaneously as he competed the attack, leaping back. 

 

"Alright, switch!"

Meokka ran ahead but as she thrust her lance forwards she kept going with her momentum. Her eyes widened. She missed! She tried to attack the fog and seemed to fail completely. She get running as her armor glowed. He circled the enemy to continue her momentum and watched it carefully. "Sorry! I'm looking for an opening! Switch with me till I figure it out!" she looked at the creature with interest. What was it clouded in and what did it really look like she wondered.

Teayre nods at Calrex as he says about the creature they were fighting being a like a panther, smiling she rolled to one side as it leapt at her narrowly avoiding its fangs. Spinning as she rose the Oikawa Kanashiki flicking up towards the creature and flying past it, the shadow like flames that licked the creature had deflected the attack and now the beast was bearing down on her. Gritting her teeth Teayre batted away the first strike from the panther then another and another, starting to recoil under the blows she finds herself getting knocked to the floor. The feline was pinning her down by the shoulders its maw opening wide as it let loose a guttural howl at Teayre’s face before biting down eliciting a scream from Teayre.

As Teayre was pinned and attacked by the panther only a split second passed before the pressure from the bite stopped. Calrex was already standing behind the panther, his free hand wrapped around the monster's head from the back. The flames licked the Grand Chariot armor, but were completely ineffective against him. His middle finger and thumb were squeezing the panther's jaw, forcing its mouth to open as Calrex pulled the creature back. He remained deathly quiet as he held the creature in his grip. However, unlike his previous demeanor, which seemed like a calm before a storm, not it seemed almost like the raging torrent had arrived.

 

The creature tried to scratch at him, but the height different rendered it useless as Calrex impaled the beat three times, the third leaving the blade inside as he kept the creature lifted as his free hand switched from the back of its head to the front, squeezing as he wrenched his sword out. After three more stabs he stepped forward and hurled the creature upwards, its HP having only a little remaining. While the panther reached the apex of its ascent Calrex twirled the Grand Blade into its sheath as he slid his right foot back, the blade glowing alight with a light blue hue.

 

"Annihilating..."

 

As the creature fell into striking range his blade and body became a blur of movement as he delivered a seemingly endless flurry of slashes and punches. On the last strike he impaled the Grand Blade into the creatures gut once again, pinning it to the ground. After doing so his free hand immediately drew back as he slammed it into the creature's head. The moment after doing so the panther burst into crystals, with Calrex remaining still for a few seconds before straightening himself, sheathing the Grand Blade.

 

He tried to regain some of his calm demeanor, but the scream Teayre had let out, similar to witnessing the critical strike on her during her <<Earning a Living>> quest, had triggered the emotionless kill and rescue instinct, just like before. As he spoke his words seemed devoid of emotion for the first part before the rest was back to normal, "You guys alright? That thing was a nuisance."

[Guest Meokka]

Meokka went over to Teayre. Seeing she was up now she watched. After a moment of staring she quickly turned her head to Teayre's HP bar. She relaxed seeing it wasn't in the red or anything. She quickly bowed to her friend not enjoying the fact it was her fault for getting hurt. "I'm sorry. I should have paralyzed the beast or killed it. I'm forever sorry."

It was then Meokka heard a strange clicking noise. Her head perked up, and she slowly stood up straight looking around. There was an interesting hare in front of her. It's fur seemed on fire as it gave off a red glow. She moved closer and placed food that she recieved the the gypse lady in front of herself. A rainbow carrot. The jackrabbit twitched it's nose and cautiously walked over. It tried the food and looked up at Meokka

It was strange even though this rabbit seemed loyal Meokka didn't trust it. Meokka sighed and brought her lance down on it as it shattered into a blue light. 

 

"You're not the rabbit from my dreams. Even if you look like him. I'm sorry."

 

She turned back and looked at her friends. "That's what I'm looking for. A Phoenix Hare. I know I'll find him here. Somewhere. But I'll only take the one I know is the same. Not a representation." she bowed to them. She prayed they did not think her unkind.

As Meokka interacted with the hare Calrex nodded as he walked over to Teayre, kneeling down as he scanned for the wounds she endured during the battle, "You alright?"

 

"There's a few light wounds on her, but nothing too serious. The worst one is that mark where the creature managed to get a bite, but other than that I don't see anything that won't heal in a few minutes."

 

He gave a small sigh as he got to his feet, "Nonetheless she shouldn't be the one taking the hits..."

 

"A Phoenix Hare huh? Sounds like an interesting familiar. Yeah, Of course you can't just go picking any hare right?"

[Guest Meokka]

She looked back over at Teayre worried and waited for them. She watched them. A frightening though had her. She was afraid for a long while. She didn't know specifics and that's what made it worse for her. She just knew Teayre's home life was not the best. What kind of life support was she even on? She looked away for a moment. Very much afraid for her friend. No, if she was still here, that meant she was getting help in the real world. That she was likely safe in a hospital. Right? She had to tell herself that a few times. She took in a deep breath and looked up at the skies for a bit. Then back down. There were more hares.

"Only the one from my dreams will do. I'm going to try over there. I'll be right back. I'll leave you two to each other. You're both so cute together I'd hate to impose." It was a safe way to excuse herself as she went over to the hares.

The red hare she approached didn't even look twice at the food and bounced away without hesitation. Meokka was a bit stunned by it's lack of interest and turned around. She went back to party.

"No luck....How's Teayre holding up?" She asked moving closer.

As Calrex checked her over Teayre clung to him not moving her head buried into the crook of his neck and her arms tight around his chest. “C… Cal…†Beginning to sob into her fiancee’s shoulder Teayre shakes her head a bit as the Oikawa Kanashiki clatters to the ground. The ringing sound of the metal striking stone causes the small red head to jump and look around before seeing Meokka stood there.

 

“M… Meo why are you bowing? There’s nothing to bow for…†As she shook her head Teayre looked back up at Calrex who was looking down at her wounds. Taking the boy’s hand she places it over where the creature had bitten, her eyes gazing up at his pleading. Hearing the other bluenette’s voice Teayre croakly replies to her, “I’m… I’m okay Meo. Just a bit shaken…â€

As Teayre wrapped her arms around him Calrex gave a calming breath as he gently returned her embrace, gently brushing the back of her head. Since she was shaking he held her tight enough to give a sense of security, "It's alright, we're here for you..."

 

Once Meo finished speaking Calrex nodded as he slowly turned to face her, while still keeping an arm around Teayre, "Well it looks like we've got more searching around to do in order to find that one and only hare, right?"

 

With that he turned and gave a warm smile to Teayre before giving her a tight embrace, then helping her to her feet, "In any case, the next time we encounter another monster let me take point. I'm one of the Rook pieces of the guild right? I should be doing my job and protecting you two."

 

He smirked under his helmet as he looked over at his two teammates.

She nodded to them and gave Teayre a gentle pat on the back. She looked around for maybe a ruby ore or something but didn't find anything. She pressed onwards to looking for the another rabbit. She wondered what everything was about but was too afraid to get into personal matters with both of them. She was more a one on one basis person. She didn't want to bring up something that was a secret, or something another person would start answering. She doubted her friends would do that or mind, but she respected privacy so much that she continued with that form of mentality. She placed her arms behind her head. "How are you business coming along?" she asked excited.

As Meokka posed her question to Teayre the girl smiled, “I’m busy nearly all the time, I keep running out of materials as well… It’s tough but then I don’t think there is another Artisan really is there?†Sliding her fingers between Calrex’s Teayre locks their hands together holding tightly.  “So what are you looking for Meo, what sort of familiar? Also keep your eyes open for the dragon whelps on this floor they can be a right pain…†Stealing a quick glance at Calrex Teayre sheathes the Oikawa Kanashiki with her free hand before looking around sighing.

As Teayre interlocked her hand with his he gave a small, although this wasn't betrayed by the stoic appearance of the Grand Chariot armor's full helmet. However, he did give a nod as he looked back over at Meokka, "I believe she mentioned she was looking for something called a Phoenix Hare? So I'm guessing that it's some kind of rabbit on fire, or has a phoenix color pattern to it. Well, at least it appears we're looking in the right place."

 

"Dragon whelps huh? Well, I've had yet to fight an actual dragon in this game, so they ought to be a sight to see."

 

He squeezed Teayre's assuringly to give some sense of security as he scanned the immediate area with his <<Reveal>> skill, "In any case it looks like there's no other creatures within a good distance of us right now, going rom what my Reveal skill shows. We'd best keep pressing further out if we're going to find more hares around."

[Guest Meokka]

"Dragon's aren't my cup of tea. Everyone tends to like them, and I find them overused. So I figured a fire hare, like myself. I guess I should explain. I was born in mid march, and under the sign of the rabbit. Because I was born so close to the sign of the Aries, even though I'm a Pisces I'm more a fire element. I also had a few dreams with a burning bouncing ball, and then it would light a fireplace when I was younger. While I've been in SAO I have dreams of the ball lighting up my forge. That's why my shop is named that. So when I heard there was something called a Phoenix Hare I need I had to have one." She smiled. "Thank you again for coming to look with me. An extra set of eyes is always welcome."

"Oh I know what that is." She moved past Calrex a bit distracted and she mined out some Lavanite ore.

Returning Calrex’s squeeze she looks up smiling at him weakly nodding, as Teayre listens to Meokka her smile widens. “I have never much liked dragons myself Meo, they’ve always seemed… Too arrogant for their own good. I can’t stand arrogance, even if I am it myself sometimes.†Slowly letting go of Calrex’s hand Teayre follows Meokka as she begins to mine some ore her left hand on her katana’s hilt.

 

“I’ve always preferred hawks, eagles or snakes myself… They’re loners but can work in a group if they need to.†Chuckling as Meokka started to talk about her star sign, Teayre lets her finish before she interjects, “That’s interesting Meo, but sorry if this sounds harsh.†Pausing for a moment Teayre takes a few breaths before she starts to speak again.

 

“I don’t believe in that crap, well that’s not strictly true. When I was in the prison my father had set up for me, a horse bit in my mouth to keep me quiet. All the while he drank a whole liquor store. Watching as he snapped umbilical cords in front of my very eyes whilst I could do nothing but pray. I heard nothing back, not even a whisper except what I did under my own power. I believe in god Meo and I absolutely hate the f*cker.â€

 

Stopping Teayre clapped a hand over her mouth as she finished speaking. “S-sorry… That was probably more than you wanted to hear… It’s kinda the whole thing… The person who raised me brought me up to see him as ‘god’.†As the red head spoke god she did air quotations with her fingers, her tone becoming sarcastic.

As Meo and Teayre spoke Calrex remained silent as he quietly took in what both had to say. Of course he already understand where Teayre was coming from when she spoke about her father, giving a nod as he gently grasped her hand after she had spoken, "In any case it seems like we should probably keep moving. Going from the way things are in this area I don't think we're likely going to find any hares around here. We might have more luck if we press forward."

 

"Hm...interesting that Meo believes in the star symbols and such. If I remember correctly my symbol was Sagittarius for constellations, and the horse in terms of the zodiac. In any case all of that personality stuff to me only serves partially true. For the most part I think that people tend to be too easily influenced by those things that supposedly predict the future or their personality. A lot of them from what I can remember are self-fulfilling."

 

Calrex gave a calming breath as he activated his <<Reveal>> skill as he led the two onward.

[Guest Meokka]

It was like someone shook her when Teayre explained. She felt she was missing a lot of information. She just turned and stared at her wide eyed. Was the horse symbolic of something or did she mean a real horse? Was it a prison, or was it a place her father kept her and she saw it as a prison, or was it an actual prison. Her head spun around a bit a she shook her head. "No, I like knowing you can trust me." She got up and took Teayre's free hand. "We're like family. You know. The fact you can tell me these things. Just means you trust me. For that I'm touched." She smiled brightly at her. She let go of Teayre and thought about hugging her but she wasn't sure how to do that really. If it hadn't been for Sen, holding her hand even for a short time wouldn't have been possible.

She was too distracted with Teayre she didn't seem to notice anything else at all.

“You know. The fact you can tell me these things. Just means you trust me. For that I’m touched.â€

 

Teayre pulls her hand away from Meokka’s grip instead slipping her arms underneath hers and burying her head into the girls bust. “T-thank you Meo.†Letting go Teayre steps back smiling, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.

 

“I’m… I’m sorry I’ve been out of sorts there’s been a lot of things going on and I just need to get my head around it all. The guild being formed, Beleram’s death. Cal and I getting married and my past…. There’s a lot going round up here.â€

 

Tapping her head with her finger Teayre gives the bluenette another quick hug before looking over at Calrex. “I wonder what’s on his mind… He seems out of it really…†As her voice lowered to a whisper as she looked at Calrex, tutting she follows the boy taking his hand.

 

“Let’s get a move on, there should be some hares a bit further North I think.†
