"I thought you could only get Materials from defeating enemies" watching Calrex go to work the boy raised n arched brow, what exactly was he supposed to look for? it couldn't be just anything he picks up from the ground...there must be something more to it than that. As if to further confuse him the man picked up an item off of the ground. "I'm guessing that was a Material right?, alright so I need to look for something like that..." Calrex 0 Posted July 9, 2015 #42 Share Posted July 9, 2015 OOC: http://www.sao-rpg.com/topic/4646-general-game-guide-rules/ At the very bottom there is a section called Non-Combat Gathering. I believe we follow that list XD IC: ID: 23669 Loot Dice: 13 (Search and Detect +2 / Item +1) = 16 Calrex gave a laugh as Takneil commented on his original assumption of the materials system, "Heh, if that were the case I probably wouldn't be talking to you today. It's probably the case with some players, just because they prefer combat, but materials actually spawn in the fields on their own. My guess is that the ones people find off of monsters would be like finding items within a creature because it had eaten it. When I go on gathering trips I tend to think more like one would in the real world, finding objects in the landscape that would likely be useful for whatever profession I'm finding them for. So, for example, if I were searching for items to be used in a blacksmith shop I would look for things like special kinds of metal or ores." As his teammate put up an item Calrex quickly inspected it. It was actually an herb, which would likely be useful for an alchemist or cook, "Yeah! Stuff like that would be qualified for use as materials. If you find things like that it actually becomes fairly easy to pick them out from the landscape." After scrounging around some more Calrex found an herb of similar quality to the one Takneil found, adding it to his inventory. Total: 3 Calrex: 2 Takneil:
Takneil 0 Posted July 10, 2015 Author #43 Share Posted July 10, 2015 Takneil sighs in relief as he stores the material into his inventory. "Good!, now I can actually do things on my own!...though doing them with others in much quicker" he stated as he surveyed the area, it was good that he was finding the things he needed but alchemic ingredients wasn't really what he was looking for. "Hey!, what do ya say we take this to a cave or something? I need to find stuff a Blacksmith or a tailor could use" pulling at his black trench coat he frowned. "I don't mind having this. I mean at least it's better than that tattered rag I had but I would like to get something a bit more...well as all of us look for in a MMORPG, badass." like everything he usually requests there was another reasoning behind wanting to go to a cave, it would allow him to get used to fighting in the dark in which would be necessary. while awaiting the response the boy's eye caught something on the ground. I think there's one fairly close by, at least to my memory." Calrex doubled checked the location on his map before directing Takneil in the direction of their destination. As they walked Calrex looked down and saw what he thought was a useful item, but unfortunately upon close inspection it turned out it was just a plain rock with a strange shadow being cast over it. "Heh, I do get you there. If you're going to be going into battle, you'd best look the part right?" "Hm...I wonder if this floor is still scarce on materials at the moment. "It's honestly hard to remember that we're in a game, especially since it all doesn't just look real but feels real...even the food and drinks in this game taste amazing." stopping his speech for a moment the boy snatched something off of the ground hoping it would be of any use. There's no need to be on such high alert or anything like that, so you can go at your own pace and take in the scenery at the same time. The hyper-realism in this game is certainly something to behold, although I can't say I have the same feeling when seeing the spiders on the sixth floor." Upon entering the cave Calrex checked the ground where he was standing, seeing that there was some fairly unique colored ores. Kneeling down he collected enough for a handful before adding them to his inventory, "I can understand what you mean. If it weren't for the fact this had turned into a death game, I'm sure a lot of people would be playing this game. Takneil 0 Posted July 15, 2015 Author #47 Share Posted July 15, 2015 with that realization popping into his mind Takneil stopped what he was doing for a moment. "Wow...I didn't even think of that, I wonder how they're treating this on the outside?." he mused. "All I hope is that the Nervegears aren't destroyed...despite the fact it put us all in here it is an amazing console." imagining himself waking up in the hospital taking the system off to only be met with someone there to destroy it he couldn't but laugh at the thought of him trying to protect the hardware. "Honestly when I get out of here I'm pretty sure my gaming won't be effected at all" he stated. 'If we get out of here that is...don't you think you are being a bit daft my dear Taki?, or was it Takkun?' letting out a sharp yelp the boy searched frantically for the source of the voice. 'Who was that? and why did he sound so familiar?' hearing a deep sigh within his mind the voice broke the silence again. 'Don't tell me you forgot about me already Takkun?, I guess you're still as useless as always...fine seeing as you need it here's a clue. think back to when you were trying to...what was obtain harmony?' his eye widening with sudden understanding Takneil cleared his throat and tried his best to look normal so his friend wouldn't suspect anything. putting on a false smile he grabbed a couple rocks. We've been inside for quite some time, and even though it is an interesting 'break' from the real world, I'm curious as to what's changed on that side. It's not like we have a way of keeping up with current events while we're in here." Looking over he noticed as Takneil had decided to pick up some...rather ordinary rocks for materials, making note of the act, as well as the difference in smile on the boy. It was subtle, but the way the smile was rubbed him differently than anyone else's usual expression. "I guess it really is true, that one can easily tell when someone is faking a smile, not by the appearance, but by how it makes them feel, at least neutrally. I wonder what's going on." Deciding to follow along for now he responded to Takneil's next question, "Well, it's not like I have any particular fear of them, at least no more than the next person would I think. However, they are much larger in the game, and that hyper-realism makes it that you could see the hair on their body move. I guess it's more...unsettling than anything else." Takneil 0 Posted July 24, 2015 Author #49 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Understanding where Calrex was coming from the boy nodded. "yeah I guess that makes sense, though I haven't seen one in SAO yet spiders in reality usually caused me to shiver" he stated, he knew for a fact that he had a severe problem with insects but he never felt that way with spiders probably due to the fact they tend to go about their own way. 'Bagh!, he's just a wimp!' the voice proclaimed. grinding his teeth Takneil let out an annoyed sigh. 'Watch what you say about my friend, and he's ten times stronger than me' the boy's attempts to ignore the voice were turning futile and he could tell it was trying to push his buttons. kicking over a rock to vent some frustration he tilted his head raising an arched brow at what was underneath. Want to head a little further in and see if we'll have better luck there?" I didn't really start consistently adventuring out onto to the floors above the third floor until I had much better gear. In fact I think the only times I did go onto the sixth floor ahead of that was because there were some quests in the immediate vicinity of the settlement, meaning there wasn't a high of risk of falling into trouble. Definitely take your time and move at a steady pace." "Still no luck so far. I wonder if we're just not looking in the right spots. Usually I can discern a good location to look for materials, but this particular cave is proving fairly difficult to make heads or tails of." Moving yet another rock to the side Calrex gave a small sigh to himself before speaking again, "I can tell you this much though, the ninth and tenth floors are certainly ones to be careful of. He managed to get a good handful, adding them to his inventory, "I might have found a pretty good spot if you want to take a look over here Tak. As for dungeons, the main thing I usually watch out for are any traps, but in particular traps that are rigged into chests. More than once I've tried to open a chest, found a trap inside, disarmed it, then threw it open the rest of the way to find another inside. It doesn't do much damage, but it's certainly disappointing to have part of your spoils lost.
