PP - F1 Valor and the Knight (Lowenthal) (Completed)

Recommended Posts

As Calrex hear Lowenthal resolve himself in the face of the deaths of all the players on the monument he gave an approving nod, "Good to hear. Don't ever forget that while you're here."

"Well, that can be met with an 'of course' response, so I should clarify."

"Make sure you always keep those you are protecting, and those who are waiting for you outside of this game, keep those people always present in your mind. It may sound strange, but it's not uncommon for people to get addicted to being in this game, just like anything else. As long as you keep that drive to make it out in mind I'm sure you will be alright."

With that he began to lead Lowenthal towards the city gates, "Let's go ahead and get you training against some simple boars. I'll be with you the entire time, so feel free to fight at your best. A trick you should know about dagger wielders is that they're the only weapons that can actually be thrown. Right now it seems merely for effect, but once you get into the tougher monsters it's good to have an element of surprise."

Lowenthal looked at his dagger. "If I throw it, won't I lose it?" he asked Calrex. "Um, and I actually have no combat experience." Lowenthal admitted. "But, I'm gonna do my best!" He exclaimed, wanting to impress Calrex with his resolve. "Um, dumb question. But shouldn't I be able to wield two of these?" Lowenthal asked, walking with Calex. "I mean, it should seem easy, cause I can juggle this one." Lowenthal said.

Calrex nodded as Lowenthal clarified on the special properties of daggers, "Yup, well, don't quote me exactly on that point. I don't use a dagger myself, so I wouldn't know how effective the strategy is. As for dual wielding, unfortunately no. I don't believe anyone currently in SAO is capable of wielding more than one weapon, even if they are light. So your best bet would be to use that lightness to your advantage."

As they arrived at the gate he made some swipes on his menu, summoning the Grand Chariot armor, surrounding himself with the deep-sea blue full-body armor, "Don't worry about having previous combat experience. Sometimes what your body tells you to do instinctually can actually work better than a trained technique. I'll keep an eye on you though, because this game does have an assist attack system, so if you ever go into a stance that activates a special attack it will pretty much guarantee a hit. It is random though, so don't be dependent on it."

Lowenthal nodded at Calrex as he explained the properties of weapons and how combat works, "So, how can I improve my odds on hitting something?" Lowenthal asked the now armor clad man. Lowenthal saw the armor as bulky, adn kind of an eye sore. "Hey, you pick up any chicks in that get-up?" Lowenthal asked, raising an eye brow.

As Lowenthal jokingly asked about him picking up girls while in his armor Calrex gave a laugh, "Actually I found a girlfriend in this game before I got this armor. We're actually engaged now, thank you very much."

He made sure to respond in a joking tone before addressing his new acquaintance's other question, "As for striking more accurately there's two ways to go about it. One is to take the Precision skill, which makes you over accurate with your attacks overall. The second is to obtain or have a weapon made that has the Accuracy property added to it."

"We'll have to see. Sometimes they can rack up faster than you expect. There's even a few quests out there where the reward is actually half of what you need to purchase it. I know of one off hand on the second floor which requires you to fight a wasp queen, which is a respawning field boss. And thank you!"

With that Calrex gave a nod, "In any case let's get you acquainted with the battle system first before discussing anything like that. At the same time I'd better get you acquainted with the Hate system in this game as well, since you'll likely encounter other players like myself that have taken skills specialized in keeping attention on them, rather than their teammates."

With that he looked around, spotting a nearby boar. As he approached he drew his Grand Blade from its sheath as the light blue aura chains of his skills formed around his forearms and shins. He quickly and fiercely impaled the Grand Blade into the ground as his <<Howl>> skill activated, releasing a powerful boom as the chains exploded. THe boar turned to look at him, its eyes flashing red. "That is the Howl skill. It allowed me to forego my attack in order to build up Hate on the enemies, that way they remain focused on hitting me."

With that he extracted his blade, nodding to Lowenthal, "Go ahead and take a swipe at it. Don't worry about getting retaliated at, I have is full attention now."

Lowenthal drew his dagger. "Okay, should be easy." He said, running up to the boar. Lowenthal got nervous and stopped short, his dagger missing. He jumped back, and ran his hand through his hair. "I can get it next time." He said, wiping his hands off on his pants.

As Calrex watched Lowenthal charge in he seemed to be spot on for a hit, before he held himself back, leaping back.

"I guess he's nervous about getting this close to an enemy."

As he heard Lowenthal reassure Calrex about him scoring a hit he gave a nod in response, "Don't be afraid of it. As intimidating as it might be, it's still just a bunch of pixels. We can take this thing out easy."

With that Calrex twirled his blade before tossing it above his head, catching it in his sword arm as he rushed forward, the blade in a reverse grip. As he got into striking range his blade flashed forward, delivering a running cut across the boar's side as he ran by. Immediately after doing so Calrex quickly turned to keep his eyes on the boar as he kept his sword pointed forward, "Alright, go for it!"

Battle: 3

Lowenthal shook his head and collected his thoughts. Lowentha gripped his dagger, and rushed at the boar again. Lowenthal misjudged the length of his dagger, and missed again. "Damn. Gotta get used to the range of this thing." He said to Calrex. Calrex was obviously a veteran in the ways of combat. Lowenthal had a hard time holding his dagger, let alone striking a boar.

As Calrex saw Lowenthal miss once again with his dagger he acknowledged his teammates comment about the length of his dagger, "No worries, that's understandable. If it helps try to think of attacking like you would with your fists. A dagger isn't much longer, so it might help give you a better idea of the length."

With that he rushed forward, trying to strike the boar with a quick jabbing slash. This time the boar managed to leap back and avoid his strike as it tried to charge forward. Calrex easily dodged to the side like a matador would do a bull, keeping his sword up before flipping it into a reverse grip, "Alright, try giving it another shot."

Lowenthal loosened his grip on this dagger. "like an extension of my fist, huh?" He flipped the dagger in his hand once and attacked the boar again. The boar ducked, and Lowenthal cut the boar's coarse hair. "Gah! I was so close!" Lowenthal said, but he smiled. This was fun, he was enjoying himself. He loosened his body more, and danced his balance between his feet.

"Nice, you've almost got it!"

As Calrex observed his teammate come just a hair off of scoring a hit he gave an approving nod.

"He's definitely catching on quickly. He should become a fairly powerful dagger wielder if he keeps this up. That's a good thing to see, especially if he said he's trying to protect his sister."

As Lowenthal backed up Calrex rushed in again, rushing straight at the boar. The boar had kicked its hooves as it rushed at Calrex, aiming to ram into him, but as it got into striking range Calrex used his <<Acrobatics>> skill to flip over the boar, slashing it as he sailed overhead. As he landed behind it he did a quick 180 turn to keep his eyes on the creature as he gave another long deep breath, "Alright give it another shot. If the last hit was any indicator you should have it!"

Battle: 5

Lowenthal was getting used to his dagger. The weight, the length, the way it moved in his hand. He just wasn't wielding a weapon, but a tool. His dagger was no different then what an artist would use. "I got him this time." He said, under his breath. He rushed the boar and stabbed at it. He missed as the boar turned to face Calrex. "Dammit! Close again!" Lowenthal said, taking a few steps back.

As Lowenthal switched out once again Calrex observed both his movements as well as the boar's. It seemed like the past two strikes his teammate came close, but the boar was too alert and ready that each time it moved itself just a hair back to get out of harm's way.

"I'll need to remedy that...targeting its ligaments to slow it down...execute!"

As his logical side quickly discerned the points he needed to strike Calrex rushed forward, his sword alight with a light blue glow. As he got into striking range he became a blur of movement as he maneuvered himself around the boar, slashing rapidly, each strike hitting either the joint allowing the leg to bend or the rotator joint for each of them. Each slash connected in a streak of blue before the afterimage of a light blue chain filled each slash, as if Calrex had bound the beast. As each chain shattered the boar fell onto its side as Calrex leapt back, twirling his blade rapidly around his body before pointing it at the boar once again.

"Alright, that should have slowed its movement's slightly. Try and take another shot."

Battle: 4

Lowenthal, looked at the near death boar. "How hard can it be now?" Lowenthal said, readying his dagger. Lowenthal slipped, and fell backwards planting himself on his back. Laughing,  Lowenthal sat back up forgoing his attack. "Damn shoes, made me slip."   Lowenthal readied his dagger, more prepared.

Mob Dice: 3 (Evasion +1)

Loot Dice: 1 (Search and Detect +2) = 3

As Lowenthal retreated from his unsuccessful attack Calrex gave a nod as he rushed back in. As he got into range he quickly sheathed the Grand Blade as he assumed his modified iaido stance while running. As he got into range of the boar he used his <<Sprint>> ability as he turned into a blur of movement for a second. As he did he drew his sword, unleashing a wild series of slashes as the boar was knocked left and right. As he became clearly visible again he appeared behind the boar with his back turned to it. The series of slashes he executed had a similar effect, each slash turning into a chain before exploding.

As a final attack he quickly backflipped over the boar, delivering a powerful slash as he traveled overhead. The slash turned his backflip into a barrel roll as he landed with his back to the boar again. The boar froze in time for a second before it dissipated into a series of crystals. Upon hearing it's destruction Calrex gave a nod as he turned to Lowenthal, "Good work there! And don't worry, I actually didn't score a hit on my first enemy either. Let's go ahead and try another one. This time I'll try and hold back a little so you can get a little more practice attacking. Sound good?"

Loot List:

1 Material

As Calrex saw the loot appear he immediately handed it over to Lowenthal, "These are what always spawn from an enemy respective to your party's strength. You can use it to craft items once you take a profession, but also some shops actually accept them as an alternative form of payment for various items and gear."

Lowenthal sheathed his dagger, and happily took the material.  "Sorry, I couldn't hit that. Guess this combat thing gets eaisier with use." He said, embarrassed he couldn't land a single blow. He looked at the material in his possession. He could use this, he kind of wanted to be a tailor. "I'll be sure to make good use of this." Lowenthal said, putting the mat away. "So, what's next?" Lowenthal asked Calrex.

Calrex gave a nod as Lowenthal spoke, "It does get easier with time. The first few battles tend to be the toughest because your body also has to get used to the system. After that's done every blow's success for the most part is under your own strength."

He gave a calming breath as he stretched his arms, swapping out the Grand Blade for his Grand Gauntlets. The deep-sea blue blade was replaced by a pair of gauntlets of similar color as Calrex opened and closed his fists, "Alright, let's take a quick breather, then take on another boar."

Lowenthal saw Calrex change weapons. "Why take a breather? I'm ready." Lowenthal said, patting his dagger. He wasn't about ready to let his flop with this boar go. He was going to kill something by the end of today dammit, "I'm fine, and judging from your health bar you look fine as well." He stated, as he drew his dagger again.
