»History:

 

 

Athos has had his ups and downs in life, yet, who hasn't?  Born of a wealthy Scottish father and an industrious Japanese mother in The U.S.A, high expectations were made of him on anything and everything he did, causing him to not enjoy responsibility too much.  He went through his early life with many friends, but no close ones, save for one, a girl named Brienne.  The bond between him and Brienne was strong enough to blossom into a loving, passionate love the summer before Athos' first year in college.  Sadly, that love could not survive the jealousy of another woman, and in turn, Brienne's as well.  After 7 months of sheer happiness, the relationship and that friendship along Athos is dead-set on finding happiness where he can.with it, crashed and burned to the ground.

 

Having lost his only close friend, he had no outlet for his sorrow. There was no one to confide in that he trusted, and sank into a rather furious depression.  After sitting like a husk staring out, on a bench at the local park, he see's a happy couple with a child. At first, he is saddened, but he realizes that no matter how bad you life is, no matter how grand it is... life continues on... Now inspired, he decided once he finished school, he would travel everywhere and learn of the world. During this time, Nerv-Gear's new "SAO" was advertised thoroughly, the beta to soon be released.

 

Time went by to his third year of college, and the day before the release of SAO. Athos and a few others set out to secure their copies.  They did so, excited, for what was to come.  As they head on their way to plug right in, out of his peripheral vision, he spots a familiar head of fair, golden hair.  "Nah", he dismisses, "couldn't be her... Why would Brienne be here now?"  Pushing the thought from his mind, Athos heads home and like a child, opens the Nerv-Gear giddily.  "Alright setting in"

 

 

 

His body trembling... The opportunities for new memories, more chances at life, to meet, to experience, To love again...  "Link... START!!!"

 

 

Virtues:

(Carpe Diem) Athos’ time in Life and SAO has taught him to enjoy his days, for either he will die, here, in this fatal “gameâ€, or if… if they somehow make it through, he will die of something else even out of this game.  Coming to this realization, he’s chosen to enjoy what he can.  As he travels through SAO, he hopes to impart this onto others, hoping they also realize the Life is short, and that they should “Seize the Day".

 

(Vagrancy)

Athos has always been drawn to the lore of fictional worlds, keen on learning and appreciating that which another has worked so hard to create and give to others.  This, along with his natural wanderlust, lack of wanting to be dragged into guild, had propelled him to Travel about, Training as he goes.  And so, He moves about, heading to different towns, talking to people, learning, greeting, making new friends as he goes.

 

(Kind)

Though he tries to avoid joining a guild, he doesn't try to shun people.  Quite the contrary, he is rather happy accompanying a stranger or a party for some... Jolly cooperation... on a quest or something else if need be.  He is also known to give his extra Col away spontaneously for no odd reason. and  if he see's another close to their demise, it is not unheard of for him to launch himself into the way, intercepting the blow.  

 

(Merciful)

Athos is not quick to deal a killing blow to PKs.  He will ask that they either come quietly to come to prison or to atone for what they have done, often giving them second chances after they try to get in a final strike after surrendering.  Should there also be suitable circumstances for said killings, he is willing to keep an open mind if need be.

 

Flaws:

 

(Fierce Loyalty) Though this could also be a good quality, the degree he can be loyal is startling. Even before SAO, people got on him for "being a rug", for screwing himself over to help and make others happy.  He is willing to go out of his way for days to help in simple ways, within reason of course

 

(Rage)  Should a friend die at the hands of an enemy in front of Athos' eyes, he is prone to lose his state of mind and start to fight in a much more feral and vicious fashion,  Slaughtering the mob, and should it be a PKer, they will die by his hand, whether they beg for mercy or not, if someone does not bring him back to his senses.

 

(Awkwardness)

As kind as he is, Athos can also be awkward and lacking in tact when it comes to conversation.  This can create broken friendships and even fights that are not meant to happen, and can make it difficult for him to deal with merchants at times.  That in mind, he still tries his hardest with people

 

(Solitary)

Due to his vagrant life, he is not in a guild or major group and that can be lonely for anyone when you don't have super close friends. This can cause Athos to go into bouts of depression, causing in activity and can leave him vulnerable in the field and his mind to wander in a fight.
