Throughout his childhood, Joshua was always... that child. The one that sat in the corner of class, reading because none of the other kids wanted him. Not that this bothered him at first, and he was even able to keep a couple of friendships, but they never lasted that long. This was not helped by him having multiple medical conditions, which affected his physical health, making him weak, almost frail. 

 

It was because of this relative loneliness, being an outcast that he began to turn to the world of gaming, he already had a  great love for the usual things that kids like, Pokemon, but he was rather unique because he never wanted to play the newest games, but instead retro ones on his dad's SNES. He didn't always get on with his dad, as in the early years he was the angry parent, but they were able to bond through these games. 

 

 

But as he grew older he became interested in more complex games, final fantasy, league of legends, even card games like Yu-GI-OH and he found  a great amount of joy within these games. But at the same time, he also suffered, upon entering secondary school he lost nearly all of his friends, they had ditched him, to follow the 'cool kids'. This almost made sense, seeing as he was the awkward, joke-killing nerd that nobody liked. 

 

Nevertheless he was a high achiever, especially in Mathematics and Science, and did very well in all of his classes, which meant that within all of this loneliness, he was able to smile at the fact that he was at least gifted with a great mind. 

 

Which brings us to the present day, in which he has found SAO, a complete virtual world, in which he could be a hero, defeating monsters, helping people, rather than a weak kid with an awkward personality.

Loyalty:  Joshua has never had that many friends, meaning that the is especially loyal to the few ones that he is able to have, he will protect and stand by them, even risking his own life if need be.

Patience:  Joshua is rather patient, due to both spending a lot of time alone and from playing far too many RPGs, meaning that he doesn't mind waiting for the right moment during a fight, meaning that he may hang back for a few attacks, until there is an opening for him to attack etc.

Social awkwardness: Never having that many people around him, Josh doesn't deal well with large crowds of people unless absolutely necessary. Also he doesn't like being the center of attention, meaning that he can make a bad leader, this is because he is so worried about other judging him, mocking him, that he would rather keep quiet. 

 

Rage: While he is usually calm and sensible, Joshua is very passionate, and if someone were to insult him enough, or to put one of his friends in danger, Joshua tends to abandon sensibility and possibly attack someone without thinking about the consequences. 

 

Fear of the dark:  Joshua is VERY afraid of the dark, mainly due to the fact that he doesn't know what might be hiding within the shadows, and thus fears it, this is partly because when in a dark area, he cannot see what his enemy is about to do, where they will attack from, or what his opponent even is, to him the unknown is terrifying.
