As the woman took him into a hug and began to comfort him he looked up at her. "No that's not it. I-I can't go home. Y-you see my big brother is dead for all I know. He came I-into this game an left me after the a-announcement. I have seen him since and for all I know he's dead." Emblem looked down with tears falling out of his eyes. "I don't know how I'm going to tell my parents that he's dead. " emblem grit his teeth and looked to the ground. "And if he's alive. I don't know to feel joy and relief of anger. This is what this games done to me." Emblem closed his eyes and felt more years fall to the ground. "I'm a monster."

“How can you be sure he’s dead?† Mai asked him. “You didn’t see him die did you? You keep saying for all you know… but if you’re not sure, then maybe he’s still here. Regardless, do you think your parents want two dead sons?†Mai shook her head no. No parent in their right mind would want that. “If he’s dead and you know for sure, you’ll find some way to tell them… and if he’s alive, you can tell him off for ditching you and making you feel this way.†Mai hugged the little boy again. He called himself a monster and at that the young woman had to laugh.

 

“You’re hardly a monster. You’re just a boy, a boy who is scared and hurt and confused and dealing with more than any little boy should have to do, at your age. My dumb brothers are probably still at my cousin’s house playing video games or soccer and that’s what they should be doing. I wouldn’t wish them here even if they had wanted to be here. I’m glad it was me and not them.†Mai wiped up Emblem’s face and smiled gently as she spoke to him in a very kind tone.

 

“I lost someone too… my cousin Yosuke. He couldn’t handle being here, and so he left this place of his own choosing. I don’t know what I’ll tell his parents, but I’ll find a way to tell them… so will you. So, no more tears okay? And no more calling yourself a monster. You’re fine. You’re alive today and the sun is out and it’s warm, and the flowers are pretty, and so long as you keep waking up here, just be happy. There are people working hard to get us home. You’ll go home… and me too.†She hugged the little boy once more and then let him go.

 

“Okay?†she asked.

Emblem stopped his crying as the woman comforted him. She was right. Even if he did comeback with his brother dead it wasn't his fault. Eve if he did feel to blame. If only he hadn't hid in an inn for most of his time here. Thank you so much Mayuri. He hated himself. He had become a sad slump. He decided from then on he wouldn't cry. No matter what. He gave the woman a hug then got up. Where are you from Mayuri? He couldn't help but miss his home. Even though most of his best memories he'd made in this game and part of him didn't want to go home. He had people he loved in this game. But nothing could replace the place he grew up. It feels as if we've lived here our entire life hasnt it.

Emblem hugged Mayuri and then stood; he’d stopped crying and she was happy for it. Mai got up off the floor and dusted off her white dress. “Oh… I’m from California… Long Beach. I came to Japan to visit family here. Isn’t that kind of funny? I wouldn’t be here if we didn’t come to visit this year…†She continued to talk and said it felt like they’d always been here, but Shay shook her head.

 

 â€œNo, it just feels like I’m in a dream and any minute now I’ll wake up. That’s all this is, Emblem… just a dream. You’re not really Emblem…and I’m not really Mayuri. I’m Shay Yoshida… I’m a high school senior with pretty good grades and lots of friends. I know this seems ideal, but this isn’t the real world. It’s only pixels and fancy coding. Don’t forget home. This is just a group adventure dream and we should enjoy it for what it is, but don’t kid yourself into thinking this place is real, okay?â€
